My name is Bevin Millen… And the shit has hit the fan. AGAIN. I’m really tired of that being my life, but I don’t see that changing anytime soon. The only thing I can change is how I respond to it. How I handle the drama and my ability to process it all. How I adapt and survive so that one day I can thrive in this messed up world… And that starts with drawing a line in the sand. I thought I had before, but apparently I’m not terrifying enough. Well, maybe some of the men who stand with me finally can get through to the people who are supposed to be on our damn side. And then perhaps I can get through to others to help me in the ways that I need to be helped instead of everyone trying to make me fit their molds. Oh, and they all have different ideas of how that should go. So that’s not confusing or anything. But I have made progress in other areas. I’m caught up in school. I’m ahead of everyone in the Wicked Challenge. I just need to keep putting myself first. I’m just not sure how to do that?
Morrigan University is a spicy reverse harem, university-age paranormal academy series with darker elements, strong language, violence, and a heroine who always does her best no matter what’s thrown at her… While trying to figure out what and who her heart wants.
*This book is part of a series and cannot be read as a standalone. Like all my books, this is not light and fluffy and includes dark themes and events some may find triggering. Reader discretion is advised.
I am a fan. I really am. I have read Erin Flynn's Artemis University, Seraphine Thomas, The Enchantress, and House of Garner series. I always download her books as soon as they are released and adjust my schedule where I can just sit and read. But this book.....I am just confused? This whole series! This book felt all over the place. There is a lot of telling what happened instead of showing us what happened by letting us read what is happening. Then it would jump into showing us a scene thats happening. It was bizarre. Sometimes it was hard to tell who's point of view I was reading. Everyone speaks the same. "That's fair" "That's valid". Everyone acts the same. There is no way to differentiate between anyone by their behaviors. The males nor the females. The woe is me vibe from the FMC. The pity party's.....it's like a replica of Artemis University series. It's the same thing! Reading this made me feel like I am some psycho obsessed fan, of a celebrity, following their every move every single day. When in reality I could care less about the drama of a calendar or what she wears. Once again, in this series, just like in Artemis series, the villians can not come up with anything better than starting drama over what she wears? Or who she is dating? Some of these "villians" are Counsel Members, AKA smart as hell adults, and can not come up with anything more nefarious than the petty that was already covered in the last books? Where is the angst? Where is the suspence? Where is the mystery? The Gods are angry about the witches behaviors. The threat of the humans discovering them. All the stuff that would make this series interesting and we read a whole book about mundane, childish, woe is me, petty, childish stuff. Its amazing and not in a good way. House of Garner has all the angst and action to offset the petty relationship drama Erin Flynn throws in her books. So does the Seraphine Thomas series and The Enchantress. So Erin I ask you what is happening? 2 stars just because I am a fan. This book really deserves 0 stars in my opinion.
I seriously love everything this author writes. Morrigan University is a paranormal reverse harem series. The female protagonist is Bevin Millen (previously Shaw) a first year student at school for Witches and Warlocks. Humanity is currently unaware of the existence of magic or of the monstrous creatures that exist in our world.
Bevin recently escaped her abusive home life and successfully renounced her birth family, she has virtually no social experience or magical training and unlike the vast majority of other magical folks she doesn’t have a familiar instead she is a Goddess Witch. Blessed by at least two gods, possibly more with has exceptionally strong magic . The world is on the brink of massive upheaval, not everyone will survive, Bevin has been born into this time and may be able to make a difference to the outcome. Provided she remains free and able to act for the betterment of everyone, not an easy task when so many people want her as their puppet.
I really do love the familiars and their relationship with Bev. Though this book felt disjointed. Chapter 8 was all about the women meeting up to support each other then Chapter 9 started off with her angry at her grandfather. I couldn't even remember why she was angry. I just kept thinking that it would have been nice if there was one sentence that said something like "I wish he told me about ***". Whatever the issue was. I know I could have pulled the last book and re-read it but that was frustrating when one sentence could have cleared things up. There were a couple of times I felt a little lost but I got through it. Anyway, I like the story. I'm happy with its direction. It needs some serious editing though., spelling errors or wrong words.
Erin Flynn is fantastic at pulling all the emotions out of you as you read. Morrigan is a great series and Bevin really grew in Book 5. She is getting a better handle on her life, figuring out how to just BE, and learning as much as she can about how to interact with people. More info. on being a Goddess blessed god-daughter from a plastic flamingo - yes, it's true. There was true communication in this book to help avoid and/or remedy misunderstandings. It ends on an almost spicy note....that's the cliffhanger....wondering what happened at the end. (Not a major one by any means - more like turning off the show just as it's getting good). Looking forward to more in the Morrigan U world in the future. Thank you Erin Flynn!
Another awesome entry in the Morrigan University saga
I was so happy to get the notice about this book being released! I get so impatient waiting for books following the ones I am following. I love reading Artemis University and about Seraphine. The Enchantress, Karma Bakery, Tantalizing Trilogies, Secure Settings and In My Dreams were really good also. I think I have read all of those at least twice since I like to start back at the beginning of a series when a new book is released.. I haven't gotten into House of Garner yet, but I love everything I have read that Ms. Flynn has written. I read so much that I'm had to start keeping a log of the books I have read, but of course now I can't find the book I wrote things in.
This was pretty much a roadblock for me. The first 75 pages are almost incomprehensible. There are pages of garbled run on sentences in the stream of consciousness style. Basic punctuation is obviously missing. I only have a vague understanding of the whole flamingo message. She's told she can't tell anyone but her "priest" about her various goddess issues, then she immediately tells all her group? The next section is clearer but nothing happens. It remains a solid regurgitation of all of her mental health struggles. Then there are about 60 more confused pages about Tracy and Trevor. This whole book needs an editor.
When I was reading the first couple of books. I thought that the FMC was sheltered, and had to find her footing in the real world. So I kept making excuses for her behavior. But now it’s the fifth book and she acts so righteous and entitled. Everyone has to be more mindful of her feelings, regardless of how it affects them. None of her relationships are equal. Only her opinions matter. I don’t know how many times throughout the series she tried to assert herself and validate herself… I am so over her. I really think this is the first FMC I actually hate. Even the way she talks to the animals, I just wanna roll my eyes at her behavior
3 stars because well, I read all of the books in this series, and I like this author. This series had an awesome premise. The magic aspect was mostly unique and it had the potential to be something great but from book one, sex drowns out what could’ve been an immersive plot. Why did I get this far? I don’t know, I hoped it’d get better the entire time I read it. It just didn’t. By hook three I just wanted to know how it all ended. I feel like I wasted my time, and would’ve been better suited reading the cliff notes. With some editing and a bit less smut, it’d have been a great story. I don’t mind smut, nice read plenty of it, but this just was a miss.
I don't think I can go on with the series. To much discussion of feelings repeated over and over and over. The writing is deteriorating. A lot of sentences make no sense. The author goes over details that aren't need while skipping large chunks of details that are integral to the story. For example what happened to Charles? So his familiar died so what? The author says people have come to school even after theirs have died so we know the lose doesn't hurt you. So where is Charles? And his son. Where is he? Important details left out while the MC discusses her sex life. Boring and confusing.
I tried sooo hard to take my time with this book, wanting to savour it. Unfortunately I couldn't - it was too good and I devoured it in less than 24 hours!!
The book leaves off seamlessly from where we were in the last book (I had to reread the last couple chapters of book 4 to remember, but super easy to fall back into the story) like usual. The story was well paced, keeping you pulled into the plot. I also love everyone getting on the page more and how things are progressing in he story. Can't wait for book 6!!
I absolutely love books by Erin R Flynn. Her books are entertaining, engaging and absolutely fun to read. She is one of my favorite authors and the two series I've read of hers are on my top 10 list of series to be reread. The only negative (which isn't really a ding against her) are the minor typos (?). To me they sometimes cause a hiccup to my reading and I get thrown off-track. Other than that, Ms. Flynn, is a talented author and I look forward to more of this book and others.
I’m sorry, I’ve been a fan of this author for years and it’s the only reason I pushed through this book, but I shouldn’t have. This will be the last book of this series for me. While I 100% agree with all the issues presented, in the past several books, it’s gotten TOO toxic and in your face and it’s overwhelming. I don’t stick my head in the sand on important issues and I do believe they should be written about, but WITH other things as well. This was way too much for me.
I was really looking forward to this book after I devoured the.first four. They were witty and kept me engaged. Sad to say, number 5 was a bit juvenile for me. Don't get me wrong, a few parts made me want to turn the page. However, most of it felt like rambling unnecessarily. I had to keep telling myself that I enjoyed the first four books, so maybe this one would pick up. Hopefully with the way this one ended, the next one will be a banger to make up for it.
I mean that last chapter was just perfection... In all seriousness this series is fast becoming a favourite of mine. The character development and the world building are impeccable and I just need more! (Obviously authors should prioritise their own health and well being not just churn out books for needy readers... I am still a needy reader though so just take this as my undying loyalty as a massive fan)
Ok I don't know what happened with this particular book. But the editing was just awful ! I couldn't personally figure out what was going on half the time. And there just seemed like there was so much "filler" in this one. I'm all for detail but damn ! It just seemed like the author was just trying to out words on the page. To make a page count or something. And this is book number five. And it's only at midterm the first year. Geez !!!
I just couldn’t continue with this book, this series and possibly this author. DNF @50%.
Don’t get me wrong this author has great ideas. I love the ideas, worlds in many of her series. It’s the execution I have a problem with. Every character sounds the exact same. The h is basically the same person, with the same problems. The world is broken, racist, misogynistic and the h is going to somehow fix things.
I love Bevin. I want to give her a hug. I want to knock some heads together. This was an emotional one. I am really hoping that either a certain point is open for a current brother like figure. Or at least that he gets a happy ever after. I hope Kate ends up being a good person. As always Erin you left me wanting more.
The wait was long but worth the wait. This book answered one of the many questions but there are still many unanswered which makes for a good and long series. I still think link should be her priest or at least one of her points. I can not wait to see how the author reveals witches to humans and how bad they act and behave.
If you haven’t started this series yet please go back and read from the first book. I totally enjoyed this last book and can’t wait to read the next one! I’m hoping for Bevin and Wyatt to get back together and for Link to finally man up about his feelings lol. Excellent job as always Erin please keep them coming.
I feel like some book series drag on or they put unnecessary details in the book that people don't need. While also not answering the main questions that pop up. But not with you, I didn't know what to expect and the book kept me on my toes. I loved it!! I didn't even know this book was coming out until 3 days ago. Wow amazingly amazing***
I have been a fan of Erin R Flynn for a while now. My favorite continues to be the house of garner. I love this series as well and can not wait to see what happens with Bevin next. I am so grateful for these books, showing how a woman can be completely badass but not know basics, I love the awkwardness.
I absolutely love these direction this series is heading. The respect, the build ups, the overall plot is phenomenal. Even though this book contained a lot, I feel like it thankfully slowed us down a bit and we can really understand how Bevin has been feeling overwhelmed and how everyone is trying to help.
I got very excited when I saw this book on KU and wasn't expecting it. I'm still liking the series, but feel another round of editing could help a lot. A lot of the group discussions were confusing. Sometimes it was hard to follow which character was speaking, or what the problem even was. I kept wondering If I missed some context, and just didn't understand the concepts.
Poor Bev it continues to come in droves for her. She is still struggling to navigate the real world and doesn’t really know which way to turn, plus everyone wants more and more from her and that’s just not fair. The story is shaping up brilliantly and I can’t wait to see where things go for her and the guys.
I've been looking forward to book 5 and wasn't disappointed. I like the mix of college students and older characters in this series working together. It seems strange when talking about a series with magic and talking animals, but it makes it all more believable! 😂
In the large range of authors I read, Erin R Flynn has a unique way of tackling relationships, equality and social issues, and the misunderstandings that can come from differing POV's. Her stories are also enjoyable, a little spicy and the characters are engaging, and make me want to 'see what happens next' . Thank you Erin!
I put off this book because I know the series isn’t finished and I wasn’t sure I remembered what happened before but I’m so glad I continued. This series is one of my favorite series ever and I love every book I’ve read by this author. At this point Artemis University is my favorite but I definitely think everyone should give this series a shot.
always love an Erin R Flynn book.. and this series is one of the best!
Because I hate it when reviews give away the book I’m just gonna say that she leaves you on a cliffhanger waiting for the next book regardless of the series. The Morrigan University series is my favorite so far and I can’t wait for book 6. Especially because she writes more than the usual number in a series!!
