Shifter politics have never been Gray Hunter’s thing. Now he has no choice but to embrace them because representatives of almost every shifter pack in the state of Florida—that’s wolves, alligators, snakes, and sharks for the curious—are gathering in the Everglades to talk about the future of pack politics. Gray only wants to form a council for his former pack, then walk away. He just needs to survive one week to make it happen—or so he hopes. He won’t be embarking on the biggest adventure of his life alone. Hali Waverly knows nothing about pack politics. She’s gung-ho to help her fiancé, however, so when Gray suggests she tag along, she’s more than happy to offer her emotional and magical support. The only problem is nobody wants a witch involved with pack business. When the wife of one of the pack elders shows up dead, Hali and Gray have an even bigger problem to deal with. If one pack is responsible for the death of a member of another, it means war. If somebody within the pack killed her, then it’s a different sort of battle entirely. All Hali wants is for Gray to get the peace he deserves. That might not be in the cards. Pack antics, murder, and past alliances are about to collide in fiery fashion. Who will live to tell the tale?
While I really enjoy the books by this author and I love the characters she creates there is something I could really do without. It's the way she draws out the sometimes inane subplots which run throughout the series, every series. In this one we have two, there's the evils witch Hester who is determined to destroy Halli the other concerns Grey. How a bit of backstory here, Grey was exiled.from the Pack when he was 17/18 for refusing to stand by while a teenage girl.was.given to an elderly man (one.of.the.Pack elders) as his mate. Now, the Pack was.on a conclave at the time (a group keeping on a camping ground) so Grey was ejected with basically nothing but the clothes.on his back. If it hadn't been for the actions of his brother Rusty he may not have survived. So.fast forward twenty years and the Pack is struggling for survival Grey's reason for wanting to help just don't make sense (in my opinion) he doesn't want to rejoin. He's happy with the life he's built for himself and with Hali (who the Pack would never accept) so I'm so over th I backstory which annoyingly keeps making no forward momentum. I would much rather have a recurring villain of some such. But please no starting and finishing the book with basically no obvious changes................
Whimsical witch Hali and fiancé shifter Grey, along with Hali’s bestie witch gal pal Carrie and Grey’s brother shifter Rusty are going to a big camp out. Well, they are camping out, in the Everglades, meeting the Council Gathering of the various Packs - doesn’t sound like a barrel of fun, does it?
It will be a wild, witchy and rather hairy time for all involved since there is a murder almost immediately of one of the attending members. Hali and Carrie decide to investigate since they are there as backup for Grey and Rusty, who want to bust up the centuries of tradition and modernize the council and bring in the gals on the council (never done before) and there is massive resistance from the “old guard”. Also team Hali and Grey have to track down the killer and end the terror of the shadow creature terrorizing the Gathering. Buckle up for the rolling action thrills and spills, there are plenty.
This a fast action faster moving read so adrenaline junkies will love the roller coaster thrills and spills and chills!!! Plus, the variety of characters featured throughout the novel - a lot of unexpected suspense and surprises at the end, and an absolutely worthwhile read
I do love this series, but this book just didn't hit me like they usually do. Perhaps it was the change of location, perhaps it was the limited characters, but there was just something about this story that I wasn't quite meshing with it. Love the characters. Gray and Hali are just adorable together. We still see that Gray's mum is still butt-hurt about Gray not wanting to take over leadership of the pack (she really needs to get a life, honestly), and there is a plot point from a previous book that makes an appearance. Enjoyed it, but I just didn't feel the usual rush I get when I read a much anticipated book release in a series I love. Maybe a me thing this time?
Love the twists and turns... in the beginning I had the "bad guy" narrowed down to two, then grew to four, then back to three and back to two, but not the original two from the beginning. Absolutely love the entire trip and learning of all the different names for the various shifter breeds "groups" (being from Kissimmee area, I just might go looking for a congregation of alligators).
I am a bit confused though as this didnt read as the final for Haley and Gray, but I didn't get the option to purchase the next, so gonna troll fb for updates.
“Yes,” Hali readily agreed. “Because the people in power want to make sure that they stay in power. Even the ones not in power believe they’re going to one day be in power. It’s the same way for people who argue that the really rich shouldn’t pay taxes. They honestly believe one day that’s going to benefit them, even though the odds would be better for them to win the lottery … twice.”
The plot lines are interesting and come together satisfactory. The characters are great, entertaining, engaging and relatable. Its great to see Hali coming into her strength.
Thoroughly enjoyed this Hali/Gray book. I especially like the interaction of the foursome - Hali, Gray, Carrie and Rusty. I truly hope that Rusty and Carrie find their romantic person before the end of the series.
Book 13 contains shifters of all kinds and witches. There is a huge gathering of multiple groups, murder, mystery, danger, and love. Hali does not want to go camping, but feels it's necessary for Gray. Then there's the murder and chaos reigns. Highly entertaining.
Love these two can’t wait for them to get married. This book they went to a shifter gathering and of course Hali had to save the day which she did with a statement. Loved it
Various shifters come together at the gathering. Grey is trying to get the wolf shifters to have a Council leadership. But a murder and mysterious shadow causes secrets to be revealed. Good series. No cliffhanger and hea.
Great interactions. I love the characters in "A Witch on the Rocks" series. This one was no exception. It was great getting more of Rusty and Carrie's characters.
Fantastic read! Hali is out of her element in this book but she doesn't let that doesn't stop her basassery. This is definitely one of my favorite stories in the series.
I was looking forward to picking up this book and I wasn’t disappointed. I enjoyed the story and the characters are great. This was like a short vacation and a lot of fun. Five stars as expected.
Totally enjoyed it! This is a well written and has well developed characters. The story is catching and with the strong characters makes for a very enjoyable read. Great Reading Everyone!
