Kit Mercer used to be one of the Guild’s best, until the man he had admired, his mentor, betrayed him and chose a vampire over him. Now he is burned-out, barely hanging on, taking the easy jobs, and trying not to think about all the lives he has taken.
Simon is a fledgling vampire, barely hanging on and desperate just to survive. He should fear Kit, but instead, he finds himself drawn to the hunter who spares him.
When their worlds collide, Kit must choose between the Guild and the man he cannot stay away from. Simon must trust a human with his life, even as danger closes in from all sides.
Somewhere between guilt, desire, and survival, they realize they were meant for each other, and neither can face the world alone.
Although I like the overall story between Kit and Simon, there were several inconsistencies that just bugged me because it's happened in every book in the series. For example, when Kit was at the bar, it said that he had a glass of beer in front of him, but then he kept talking about whiskey as if he was drinking whiskey, but it was always beer. When Simon was making the soup, he talked about cooking it in the fire that Kit had made, but Simon's the one that lit the fire when Kit was still asleep. Then, when they were on the run, it was said that they ditched the van several blocks away from the motel that they walked to to get a room, but then when Simon was asleep, he was looking out the window and said nothing was out there besides the van and traffic.

Exciting! Kit, is in a spiral since his mentor, Donovan chose his vampire mate, Declan and Kit's disillusion eats at him costing him his edge. Simon, is a newly turned, vegetarian so to speak vampire. These guys meet at a low time in their lives when they are at crossroads and need to take new paths. Great challenges, they are running from the Guild and feral broken vampire experiments. Nice cover art and good flow. Great contribution to the series. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Kit is a hunter for the guild, going after vampires, werewolves and other monsters. He started with the guild early but lately his heart hasn’t been into the game. Simon is a fledgling vampire hiding out in an abandoned house. He has only been drinking animal blood to survive. Kit is assigned to check the house out and finds Simon, but a feral vampire attacks them both. This story is full of action, drama, romance and betrayal of beliefs.
I have enjoyed most of the Vampire Vows books immensely and this one was the best so far. The pacing felt right for Kit to get over his Guild indoctrination and fall for Simon. And Simon was a sweetheart from the very first.
It was only in this book that I realized the Guild is staffed by people who want an excuse to hunt and kill. Should have seen that earlier…
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. I liked this forbidden love story. Kit was lost after his mentor left but finds a purpose again after meeting Simon. I liked how Simon was surviving. They save each other and when forced to, they leave to find their own path. I think Kit now understand his mentor better.
Fast burn but slows down and gets a bit repetitive towards the part right before the end. It’s good when it’s good though but wished I felt a bit more of that romantic feeling from them instead of a more sadder one at them both having been abandoned.
This is book four of the Vampire Vows series and this time we get guild hunter Kit and fledgling vampire Simon’s story, which is another great addition to the series.
A fast paced story! Kit is somewhat lost after his mentor left. However, when his assignment takes him to an abandoned building, his life takes an unexpected turn. Will he grab his HEA or let what has been drummed into him all his life, prevent him from going after what he wants? Read it and find out!
Fantastic book! Simon was sweet and I loved how things two lost souls just simply fit together.
