A wonderful children’s picture book about a stay-at-home duck who would prefer to do nothing except sort his socks. But, Duck’s great-grandfather persuades him to “spread his wings”, get out and have an adventure (or maybe get a job).
Duck should always obey three rules:

1. Pay attention
2. Don’t panic
3. Stay positive

As you might guess, Duck manages to break all the rules. He is a walking (waddling) catastrophe, leaving chaos wherever he goes – which is beautifully illustrated throughout the book. Children can follow Duck’s progress with their finger along the dotted, winding path on each page. The expressions on Duck’s and the other animals’ faces are priceless.
Duck gets a job at the Feather Force Delivery Service, and his first job should take him to Squirrel at Oak Beach. However, he breaks the rules, and ends up many, many miles away. Luckily for him, he is rescued by a passing skier (yes, he sems to have ended up somewhere very cold), and courtesy of his new friend makes the delivery.
Duck ends up enjoying his adventure and promises himself, he will never turn down an adventure again.
I loved this book and am certain it will be a hit with children and adults alike. You will never get tired of following the pictures and Duck’ journey – or wondering where his next adventure will take him. For anyone who loved “Bunnies on the Bus” this is for you.
The paperback copy I bought came with two large postcards featuring illustrations from the book, so children can send their own mail to be delivered to a friend (by a postman rather than Duck).

Homebody Duck sets out on an adventure at his great-grandfather's urging. The elderly bird hands him a compass and some helpful advice. When he is hired to deliver a package, a seemingly mundane task, things go wrong from the start, providing him quite an adventure. Despite several detours and mishaps, the package does finally arrive at its intended destination, and Duck realizes that the advice he's been given actually was sound. Filled with puns and colorful child-friendly artwork, Duck is completely changed by these happenings. Several of the illustrations, including two double-page spreads of the exterior and interior of a red airplane, are particularly noteworthy and amusing, especially with all those animals hopping from seat to seat. And that airline? It's hardly SPEEDY-ish AIR at all. Or is? Share this with a class in need of amusement and word play. Duck really does deliver.

Een leuk boek over je angsten overwinnen en het avontuur aangaan. Ik vond het leuk geschreven maar mijn hemel die vogel is toch een kluns, alles dat fout kan gaan gaat ook fout op een hilarische manier. Van botsingen tot rioolduiken tot een vliegtuig ergens heel anders heen. De illustraties vond ik ook leuk, al vond mijn man dat de eend niet op een eend leek maar meer op een meeuw. En weet je, ik kan dat ook zien ja. Haha.

I liked this silly adventure of a homebody duck who is pushing himself to try new things (after a lot of prompting from his granduck). Preschoolers will probably get a kick out of this one.
