World-renowned paranormal psychologist Dr. Leonard Roswell has been dealing with the ridiculous all his life— debunking superstitious stories, unraveling “hauntings”, and making it clear that there are no such things as ghosts. But this latest case defies everything he knows.
A wave of violent possessions is sweeping the nation, and the possessed “patients” are ferociously aggressive and dangerous. There’s only one catch. These spirits can only take hold if their hosts agree to the possession.
As the darkness spreads and more and more people fall, Roswell assembles an elite team of experts to uncover the truth behind these malevolent entities. Racing against time, it seems that all hope is lost… But hope is never truly lost, and that, Roswell will learn, is what matters most.
North Taylor has always been an enthusiast of good writing. He’s spent his life pondering how great writing can affect people— and what great writing truly is. He loves reading, and he’s been writing his own books from a very young age. By Invitation Only is his first novel, a story that touches on deep topics such as love, loss, and hope. He spends his time writing, reading, or playing video games. He lives with his family and three cats in Dubai.
I had the privilege of reading this book before it was published. It is a fantastic and unique story about an unusual "haunting." The author is creative and manages to bring levity to the heavy situations with charming characters and fun dialogue. I recommend it for both teens and adults.
Read an advance copy from Netgalley. By Invitation Only is a solid pick for young readers who like mystery with a gentle scare. The cast feels lively and varied—there’s even a comic-relief character who lightens the mood—and the descriptions spark the imagination without dragging. What stuck with me most is the feeling the story leaves behind: it brushes up against real hopelessness, then reminds you that hope might be waiting just around the corner. 3.5 stars, rounding up to 4.
There is a new concern in the United States. People are being possessed by some unknown entity. The catch? They must agree to the possession. Dr. Roswell lives to debunk superstitious stories, but he soon finds himself over his head with a true paranormal phenomenon. By Invitation Only is a stand-alone supernatural story that sounds amazing but was disappointing throughout. I’m sure there is a niche reader that will enjoy all the eye-rolling, but it was not enjoyable for me.
This book was absolutely amazing and very well written. It was very inspiring and encouraging. The character structure and development was incredible, it felt like I was really there with the characters. The level of detail was also so amazing and it set the scene so well.
