Broken Lives

Rate this book
This book can be read as a standalone novel but we recommend starting with the first book in the series, Broken Lines.

Since the blackout Mike Grant has been robbed, beaten, and betrayed. He’s suffered through tragedies that would have broken a lesser man. But every price he’s paid was for one simple purpose: keep his family safe.

Now, after hearing a radio transmission that the power is back on in Cincinnati, Mike and his family take one last journey. There is only one question left for him to answer: does he have enough to pay the price one last time.

Find out if Mike can repair what’s broken in this final installment in the “Broken” series.

Heartbroken

Violence everywhere.

I was surprised about the amount of violence in this series. It has resonated with me. This was a fantastic series and I thoroughly enjoyed it. However, there were a few grammatical errors and things that should have been reviewed a bit more. But I did enjoy it.

My heart aches after reading this series. I can say that only that be prepared for some hard scenes and an ending that won't be sitting well with you.

A book I will never forget.

A heartbreaking story I couldn't put down. The events that unfolded, as the story was told, will stay with me for a long time. Although this was a work of fiction, I can see how this could happen in our lifetime and I pray to God it doesn't ever come close. Thank you James Hunt.

After hearing a radio broadcast promising sanctuary, Mike and his group decide to go to Cincinnati. Yet when they arrive, it's not at all like he thought it would be. Unimaginable pain and loss await. Can Mike survive?

Gripping finale

I cried. I was angry, I was cheering on the good guys. This book about the road Mike and his family traveled was such and emotional rollercoaster. It also made me want to start preparing for an EMP. This author knows how to keep you reading well into the night

Good read.

Not as good as previous books in this series, but still a good read. I'd recommend this book to those who enjoyed the previous books in this series. It's a fast read.

Survival of the fittest

This is a good picture of what could happen if our power grid suddenly went out. It shows what could happen to people under that kind of pressure, what we would learn about ourselves. The family and people around them are very real, good character development. Good portrayal of human nature...the little Napoleons and their followers, people whose beliefs are ripped apart. As food runs out, the violence escalates, showing the advantage of those who don't hesitate to kill, opposed to those who run from violence but have the powerful incentive of protecting their families. It could have used editing in spots - a few typos etc., but still a good read.

The whole set together is a harsh reality story of what can and probably will happen if the lights go out. A family in a neighborhood, then torn apart by group-think, then on to the cabin the family had prepared. The next steps are so real, so scary I felt like I had been through the wringer by the time it was over. Excellent story.

Depressing

I have read this series twice, don't ask me why. I couldn't remember what happened. Now I know why. I must made myself forget. Very sad book with no redeeming qualities.

Great series!

This was a really good series. It really didn't end like I expected and it was a bit sad. I think future editions of this book would be better to be one book with four parts.

Loved this series. It shows what would happen if our power grid ever goes out for an extended time. People in today’s United States have never lived without having power and conveniences. There were some unexpected twists, but enjoyable reading.

Broken Lives review

Broken Lives is the fourth post apocalyptic book written by author James Hunt. It is both a horrifying and incredibly sad story after an EMP device renders the U.S. powerless.

I read the series.

I kept hoping for some good things to happen. They never did. This book is dark and filled with gloom. Not my favorite type of story.

Hope this never happens

The story was exciting and terrifying at the same time. I never would have questioned the ending. This is not something I could read every day.

Fantastic

If you aren't excited about this book, you're dead. It will draw you in and wring you out. It's easy to keep up with the characters and the story line is great.

Exciting to the very end.

Each moment was more exciting than the previous one. Could we experience sit like that here? We can hope not, but don't be surprised if we do.
