Eden Manor #4

Christmas at Eden Manor

Rate this book
Brie Graves might be jobless, living with her brother, and recovering from a painful break-up, but she's determined to enjoy the holidays. Until the end of the year, she's going to do anything she wants to do, no matter how crazy it might be. Soon, she discovers exactly what she wants--to spend a week with a fascinating, sophisticated stranger. It doesn't matter that she only knows his first name or that he's more than twenty years older than her. After this one week, she'll never see him again.

Cyrus Damon has spent his life making money and holding himself to impossibly high standards. Pressured into taking a vacation in Savannah, he's alone and at loose ends, so he lets himself do something he never would have considered otherwise. He gives in to his attraction to a beautiful, free-spirited, and much-too-young woman. But, after the week is over, he'll once more be the man he's always been, left with nothing but the memory of a woman who made him happier than he's ever been.

He has no idea that when he visits his nephew in a charming bed and breakfast called Eden Manor, he'll find the woman he thought he'd left for good.

Christmas at Eden Manor is a short holiday romance with an old-fashioned hero in his fifties and a lot of swoony romance. It concludes a sequence of three series (Heirs of Damon, Beaufort Brides, and Eden Manor), but it can easily be read as a standalone.

Once more this author has managed to make me fall in love with a trope that I’m not a fan of. Age gap can be pretty tricky for me but somehow, I’ve totally fallen in love with Brie and Cyrus.

Initially, I was shocked that Cyrus had his own story, having previously read about his nephews. I was excited, but apprehensive. He was a bit of a curmudgeon with his family, but the last few years have changed him. Watching him engage with Brie was so very sweet and special, filled with deeply moving moments of self reflection and opening himself up to the things that he had never done before.

Brie was absolutely perfect for him. While she had a few issues that demanded the temporary status between them, she was also quick to work through them. The push and pull between her and Cyrus was equal on both parts but could possibly have been solved much faster with conversation. However, due to the short length of time, I totally understood why that convo never took place.

These Savannah Spots Have the Most Festive Holiday Decor | Visit Savannah

While there are other reasons why Cyrus felt the need to stay out of Brie’s life, age was the primary obstacle in his mind as the promise of her was just within his grasp. This ratcheted the angst level up because really, you can’t fix the issue of one person being 20 years older than the other. And that was when I fell in love with this trope. This couple dealt with things in such a realistic, believable way, that I couldn’t help but cheer them on.

This was such a great read, with some of my favorite characters, and the steam level to the boiling point with this hero and heroine. So glad I found out about this book and learned that Cyrus had his own HEA as well as the rest of his family.

Brie Graves has finished her stained glass restoration work and nothing else seems to be in the pipeline work wise. She’s also finished with her ex-boyfriend and given up her too expensive Victorian flat and moved in with her brother and his wife until she can find more work but she’s going to spend this month just doing what she wants. One of the things she wants is to keep exploring the art in the local festival and there’s one painting in particular that has caught her eye. It is too expensive for her to buy but she can still admire it as she drinks her coffee . . . That’s where she spots someone else admiring the same painting. He’s an older man and the two get chatting initially about the painting but then about more things. They find it easy to chat and share their views. They agree to spend the week together exploring, knowing that at the end of the week they’ll go their separate ways…..

This is a delightful and poignant story of two like-minded people meeting and connecting. Age is no barrier to the love that grows between them but the end date is always there. He’s determined to make it a clean break as he believes he is too old and set in his ways for her and that she deserves someone her own age. After their time together the split to go join their separate families for Christmas is traumatic but love will find a way to help bring these two together again, so don’t give up hope!

This is a moving May to September romance and proved a thoroughly enjoyable read. I hadn’t read anything by this author before but I’ll certainly be looking out for more from her in future!

I was gifted a copy of this book by the author, via Barclay PR, in exchange for an honest review.

Was there a significant age gap....YES.....did the hero need to act so old-fashioned (more like he was in his 70's not his 50's) at times....NO!...but that's just my opinion.

Overlooking that weirdness.... there really was a lot of charm...and sweetness to this Christmas tale.

I really do love this author ...and though this is not a favorite....she is always well worth a read.

***Second Best by this author was one of my all time favorite reads.

A really sweet story! Brie is 30 years old and very dissatisfied with her life. Her job prospects dry up, and then she has to move out of her beautiful apartment and bunk with her brother and his wife. And then she finally dumps her selfish boyfriend. Brie is way overdue for a Christmas miracle. And then she meets Cyrus, an older, handsome stranger. Cyrus is very attracted to Brie but feels he's wrong for holding on to Brie when she could be with a younger man who could give her children. But Brie doesn't care. She loves Cyrus. But will that all change when she discovers who he really is?

Cyrus is a by the book kind of guy. He spends his days working hard, making money and playing by the rules. Brie is like a feather in the wind, no set direction but determined to enjoy the ride. Cyrus is about to learn that coloring outside the line has it's own rewards. Christmas at Eden Manor blends maturity with simplicity to create a romantic and deeply moving read. Noelle Adams takes the complexity out and brings the heart in.

This was really enjoyable (like I find all of Adam's books to be) and had an honest look at age gap romance imo. It was the classic older rich businessman and younger free spirited artist, but we got to see why these two people felt such a connection despite their ages.

Christmas at Eden Manor is a lovely romance that fittingly ends three different series by Noelle Adams –Heirs of Damon, Beaufort Brides and Eden Manor. While there are some cameo appearances from some of the characters of those series throughout the story, most show up in the finale scene making this one easy to read as a standalone. It’s a May to December romance, meaning the hero is a good twenty years older than the heroine. But true love knows no bounds once you’re over 25 and the result is a heartwarming story of two people finding a connection when they least expect it.

Brie Graves is in Savannah, Georgia, currently unemployed after finishing her latest restoration project. She’s staying with her brother Michael and determined to enjoy a few weeks of holidays right before Christmas, even while scoping out possible new jobs. At a café, she discovers a handsome middle-aged gentleman expressing interest in the same painting that has caught her attention. Determined to be a little more bold and daring than in the past, she starts a conversation with him. And the next day, when both are at the café at the same time, they connect once again. Soon, they are spending their free time together, as Cyrus Damon is also on an extended holiday break, though for opposite reasons as he is a workaholic on an enforced vacation. But they’ve set a time limit which when ended, will see Cyrus return to his life in England and their relationship a memory to cherish. Falling in love was never part of the plan but will they admit to their true feelings for each other before it’s too late?

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of this author’s writing, and I’ve read every book in the three series mentioned above. When I heard that Cyrus Damon, the gruff and sometimes taciturn uncle to the Damon nephews who star in the Heirs of Damon series was going to get a story, I was excited to read it. And tying off all three series in one novella sounded like quite the feat to achieve but I am very pleased with the result and have already picked out some of the stories to put on my comfort re-read list. In this novella, we see a different side to Cyrus, the intelligent and hardworking man showing a much more emotional character. Raising two of his nephews after the untimely death of their parents (his brothers and their wives) was a challenge, one he fears he didn’t cope with well, as evidenced by their sometimes fractious relationships and the errors he made in their upbringing. But in the last few years, as they’ve found partners, he’s become aware of his mistakes and made much greater efforts to be a part of their lives and to express his true affection for all four of his nephews. In this story, he comes across as a changed man indeed, with the core of his genteel character still in place, but one willing to take a few more risks, this time with his heart.

Though Brie is a good number of years younger than Cyrus (almost 30 to his undefined but likely early fifties age), she finds him quite attractive – both in his physical appearance as well as his focus on her when they are together. He really listens to her and is so different from her last boyfriend that she has to caution herself (to no avail) not to read anything more into their friendship. But soon they find that their equal attraction leads to some steamy lovemaking that neither regrets even though they’ve decided on an end date for their time together. Brie’s character in contrast to Cyrus is a little bohemian, fun and flirty and open-hearted. It’s no wonder he falls for her, but the reality of their age difference makes him believe that she’d never be satisfied with an older man like himself in the long run. It’s this that keeps him guarding his heart until it’s almost too late. In the end, though, he comes to his senses and we get a delightful ending matched with the warm feelings evoked from the Christmas season. It’s a holiday romance but a timeless story. 5 stars.

4.5 Stars!

This is my first time reading this author and I will tell you that I loved it! If you are a fan of the author then you already know that Cyrus is the uncle of the guys in the Heirs of Damon series and he has begun to realize the mistakes he made with his family int he past. These mistakes are one of the reasons he feels as though he couldn't be loved or ever love someone else at all. Then he meets Brie while he on a forced vacation and he begins to change. They agree on a week long affair then each goes their own ways only to carry the sweet memories of their time together.

After all Cyrus is older than Brie by a number of years and things are better this way. Neither was ready to fall in love or counted that into the equation. Brie, for her part, is much more mature for her age and she sees Cyrus differently than most see him. With the exception of Gordon who kept pushing them together. I loved that! Gordon was so great. Brie is the perfect opposite to Cyrus and his stiff upper lip, so to speak. She is fun and flirty and just a breath of fresh air that he so needed. As I said I truly enjoyed this story and now that I have read this book I think I need to go back and read some of the other books by Noelle Adams. Especially those about Cyrus' nephews!

Finally. FINALLY.

CYRUS GETS HIS BOOK

description

I have been waiting for this one.

Brie is SO sweet. And Cyrus, you can tell he is just so refreshed by her. He's a different man. A softer man. Kind. Tender, even.

I LOVED IT.

"May-September Romances" don't bother me. Their age difference worked; she was mature, looking for a man who knew who he was and what he wanted, and she didn't want to end up with a piece of crap like her ex.

Cyrus has been castigating himself, feeling that he doesn't deserve good, or sweet; he doesn't deserve her. He has to come to the realization that he made mistakes, but there is time to heal them - and he has been trying to do that for a long time. His family is healing, but he hasn't forgiven himself yet. He doesn't think he can.

Brie helps change that. Their romance is a slow burn, both very carefully entering into it. I savored every moment.

What a great story for Cyrus & Brie. I enjoyed it immensely.

Thank you #TeamNoelleAdams for the ARC!!

Favorite Quotes:

People tend to accept what’s easy, without considering whether it’s real or true. Thus they take in so many half-truths and lies because they make them fell what they want to feel.

I sometimes feel exactly the same way. As if everyone else has found life, and I’m just treading water, watching other people’s ships go by.

You’re my blessing, my strength, my solace, a gift I’ll never deserve.

My Review:

Noelle Adams is a recent find for me and I have enjoyed her engaging and tender stories. The characters in this story were intriguing, smart, and immediately likable. They were good for each other and I reveled in a couple who were enjoying being together as a refreshing change from storylines of constant conflict and angst. The writing was sweet and insightful, as well as deliciously steamy. Both characters were individually taking unplanned month long breaks for themselves, and had decided to spend that time doing only as they pleased. Which led me to ponder – what would I do if I had a month of doing just as I pleased?

Despite a 20+ year age difference, Cyrus and Brie had a lot in common, and their attraction never felt forced. I found them rather sweet together, bringing out the best qualities in each other. Despite the time limit, it was clear neither wanted it to end.

The conflict all stemmed from Cyrus, he was convinced it wouldn't work, and I really hate the trope of "I'm no good for you". Brie was perfectly capable of making up her own mind about her relationship. Luckily Cyrus had some trustworthy people in his life to make him see sense.

I loved this story! I loved that the hero was older and that he found his perfect mate in a woman so much younger than him. And it wasn't because of some midlife crisis either! Cyrus Damon had always thrown himself into his work, building his empire, being the leader of his family. So when said family more or less forces him to take a break, an entire month off, he agrees but not altogether willingly. When he meets a woman several years younger than him and they strike up a conversation, he's more than a little taken with her.

Brie Graves was getting over a bad break up. To make matters worse, she was currently out of work and living with her brother and sister-in-law. When she goes to an art exhibit and finds a simple painting she loves, she goes back the next day to look upon it a little longer. This time, however, there's a stranger standing in front of the painting. They begin to talk and find they really enjoy each other's company. Brie goes back the next day, hoping the man shows up again. Silly, really. She doesn't even know his name. She lingers awhile and when he fails to make an appearance, she decides to finally leave. She's beginning to walk away when suddenly he's there. This time Brie does the unthinkable, she invites him to have dinner with her. Thus their relationship begins.

I loved the characters. Cyrus was, of course, worried about the age difference between him and Brie but, more than that, he felt he didn't deserve the happiness Brie brought to his life. For years he'd acted more like a dictator to his family, never allowing himself to get too emotionally involved. And he blamed himself for the death of one of his nephews. As such, Cyrus has resigned himself to living his life alone. He certainly wasn't planning on meeting someone like Brie. Even though she was what he'd always wanted, he knew a serious relationship would never work out. Not if she knew what he'd really been like in the past. Although he's changed, finally connecting with his family, he still didn't think someone like Brie would want him.

The truth of the matter was, Brie was perfect for him. She made him start to live again, start to actually enjoy life for once. She brought out the best in him. She was easy going and viewed life differently than other women he'd met. Most were after his money, but Brie didn't even know his last name so he knew she was being genuine with him. I thought it was great that his family involved themselves in the romance. They had no qualms at all about Cyrus being with a younger woman as long as she made Cyrus happy. Even the butler played a part in their happily ever after.

This was a wonderfully sweet romance, very enjoyable to read. I'm already thinking of reading it over. As a big fan of Noelle Adams's work, I can honestly say she's got herself another winner!

I was eager to start this book because the description just drew me in. I was not disappointed. I really could not stop reading it. The story of Brie and Cyrus was so sweet and fulfilling. They admired one another from afar and then Brie decided to introduce herself to him because she was taking some time for herself and that was what she wanted to do. They agreed to spend their time together for a week because they had enjoyed one another's company so much. However, they agreed it could not go any farther than that. Cyrus is much older than Brie, but that did not stop her. I can't say enough of how much I enjoyed both characters. Cyrus felt that he could never be loved or love anyone else. And Brie was willing to teach him that he could. She stood by him during a very difficult time and did not leave when he wanted her to. That was such a profound part of the story. It was eye opening for him. I enjoyed how Gordon was pushing for both of them from the start. He saw a side of Cyrus that he never saw before, happiness. I did not want this story to end, but was thoroughly happy with the way it did. I think Brie and Cyrus have to be 2 of my favorite characters in Noelle's books. "I was given an advanced copy. **My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

This is another brilliant novella in the Eden Manor series and it's really quite sweet how well Brie and Cyrus gel together considering their age difference, which with the mature way Brie acts never really seems to make much difference at all.

We really see another side to Cyrus that only gets brought out by Brie. Even when at times he believes that he is doing something to spare Brie for the future she see's right through him to the heart of the matter and helps him move forward.

We also see a better connection between Cyrus and his nephews a bond which only seems to be getting stronger.

I really loved this book and hope we get to see more from these characters.

Well.....this was too Hallmark for me. Both Cyrus and Brie were rather unlikeable individuals. Cyrus was plagued with "tortured leading man" non-issues, and Brie was a jobless Mary Sue. Not sure what possessed me to give this a 5 star rating this first time round.

This would have been more enjoyable as a novella, with less waffling from the hero.

Initial read: 5 stars
Noelle Adams always delivers! The perfect age gap with the perfect amount of angst and Christmas vibes.

Two souls perfectly matched regardless of age

Christmas at Eden Manor is a relatively light-hearted romance based around Christmas in terms of time of year and mixes a temporary romance with an older man, younger woman romance. I can guarantee most contemporary romance fans will enjoy this book, especially if you enjoy slightly maturer romances.

From the moment Brie and Cyrus meet, it’s clear the two main characters, have an attraction that they are unable to resist based upon their mutual interests that build a solid foundation. The development of their connection continues to clearly be explored and developed and, through the use of dual points of views, you get to know and understand the feelings of both clearly and how perfectly matched these two souls are for each other, regardless of age, although the issue isn’t just ignored and dealt with over the course of the book. As stated, there is an age difference between these two but the age difference is never an issue as both characters felt on an equal level of maturity (he’s in his fifties, she nearly thirty) but don’t think as a result of the age thing it will be dull - there it is still plenty of raunchy moments at times. Brie complimented Cyrus perfectly as they grow closer during their initial temporary arrangement. Brie and Cyrus are very likeable characters who felt very real but flawed as they go through various emotions on their journey to a HEA.

The book is well written, as always by this author, and a solid sweet contemporary romance. The book is fairly steady paced, although, in terms of time frames, it all takes place over only a couple of weeks. There are some stubborn, angsty moments at times but this is mostly a light-hearted read. Also, although it’s Christmas themed, if you are a bit apprehensive about that, be assured Christmas isn’t the focus point, more just the general time of year setting, so can be enjoyed any time. For fans of this author, it was great catching up with other characters from some of Noelle Adams’ other books and the overlap with them. However, for those who haven’t read any other books by this author, this can be read as a standalone with just enough information given to fill you in on important bits that are necessary (I’ve personally only read a handful of other books so didn’t know all characters). There is a really sweet epilogue and HEA, tying up Cyrus and Brie’s story completely.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this book.

Sweet and surprisingly sexy, with just a dash of angst. I was so stoked to see an average height, average looking, middle aged hero- only for that to be followed up by “eccentric billionaire” damnit. Just want an average earning average Joe in romance. But I still enjoyed the story quite a bit.

I really wasn't sure I was going to like this book. I have read some May-December romances where the guy was all about reclaiming his youth, or he just seemed like a lech.

This was so not that book. Damon's hesitancy, and Brie's enthusiasm made it so much more. Both Damon and Brie were shocked to discover their connection. A connection where age was irrelevant.

The storyline was basically over a couple of weeks, but, you never got that sense of instalove. It felt as though it was a relationship built over time. Trying to convince Damon to take a chance required almost the entire Eden Manor group. I do have to say that I really Gordon's role.

This story was sexy, sweet and romantic. It put me in the mind of a gently flowing stream for some reason.

Loved this book! It is one small piece of the many books that make up the works of the Noelle Adams series. Having read all the Beaufort Brides series and yet to read the Heirs of Damon and the newer Eden Manor I now cannot wait to read the Heirs of Damon first then continue into the rest of the Eden Manor books.

Brie Graves is at loose ends after breaking with her boyfriend, Chase and having a bad spell with being out of work as a historic preservationist specializing in stained glass. She has moved in with her older brother Mitchell and his wife Deanna (Beaufort Brides#1). During the month of December she has promised herself to take this time off and do exactly what she wants, when she wants and most recently she has taken to walking the local Savannah art's festival looking at the paintings on display. The one that caught her eye is a simple piece of a fishing pond.

The simple act of sitting at the local cafe to sip coffee while taking the time to admire the painting while people watching lets she notices an interesting older man who seems to enjoy the same painting. Introductions are had and conversation exchanged and the two end up agreeing to spend the week together with no strings attached. It changes both of their lives. For the man in question, it is a breath of fresh air as she has no clues that he is very successful Cyrus Damon (Heirs of Damon series) and she enjoys being with him for just him and not his money or fame.

The agreed timeframe's end arrives and they go their separate ways as agreed for Christmas. But with two who are so in love with each other that cannot be the end especially not with a Christmas miracle.

Brie and Cyrus meet in Savannah, GA while both are enjoying their favorite painting at an art exhibit. It was one that was the least viewed in the entire show, however, the one they both loved to revisit over and over. Brie noticed Cyrus one day when he was visiting the painting and they both stopped into the same cafe just outside of where the painting was hung in the exhibit. They talk and discuss the exhibit and their thoughts and feelings about the painting. They are drawn to each other, however, there is a large gap in their ages and Cyrus is only in Savannah visiting for the month. Despite these differences, they cannot stay away from each other. They agree to spend the week together before Cyrus leaves to spend Christmas with his family at a B&B. Cyrus and Brie are both single and are drawn to each other and enjoy the week together, so much that Cyrus extends his time with her, right up to the day before he leaves. They have a difficult time parting and are both heartbroken.

Brie goes to visit her extended family at their new B&B and is shocked to find that it is the same B&B that Cyrus is spending Christmas at with his family. What transpires is hard for both families to watch and for both Brie and Cyrus to experience. Christmas at Eden Manor delivers a slow and sweet story where the reader gets to watch Brie and Cyrus fall in love, go through the pain of parting and ultimately finding each other again. It is a wonderful story to experience.

I am obsessed with Noelle Adams and was thrilled when I saw she had a new Christmas story! I always seem to read her books out of order, but they stand alone so well that it doesn't matter. This novella did a great job of tying two different series together and we get to revisit so many previous characters!

This story focuses on Cyrus Damon and Brie Graces, Mitchell's sister. Yes, there is quite an age difference, but it didn't bother me in the least. Brie's maturity was evident from page 1, and their relationship was built on shared interests and mutual understanding. She brings out a side of him that no one else sees, and he gives her the confidence and freedom to be herself. Their love story was just perfect, and their issues and concerns felt realistic. I just loved Gordon and his little nudges!

Ms. Adams does a great job of making novellas still feel like complete stories without the excess. The characters were well developed and the plot was detailed but progressed at a good pace. The mix of familiar faces was a welcome addition! This was an excellent story and I can't wait for more!

What a great book. I have to say that I didn't know if I would like it because of how much older Cyrus was than her but it ended up being one of your best books in my opinion.

I laughed and cried reading this book and the characters all felt real and alive. You will definitely feel a connection to characters in the book.

It's so well written. Congrats on another great book.

This is the first time I've read Noelle Adams. Since I couldn't resist reading a holiday themed book. I'm very glad I did. I enjoyed both Brie & Cyrus. One of the things I liked about them is their names. Cool, right?

These two are so perfect for each other. The reason why? They are opposites. Their differences make they perfect together.

Brie helps bring out the fun in Cyrus something he really needs and I think he ground Brie. Some people might not be a fan of the age difference between Brie and Cyrus but I didn't really mind.

This is a quick read that you'll love reading during the holidays.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. It is a quick, sweet story that left me warm and smiling. We have seen plenty of Cyrus Damon in reading about the Damon family but never in this light. He has made a lot of mistakes but seems to have learned a lot from them. And although he feels he is in no way worthy of love, his nephews feel differently. He didn't realize he would fall for a younger woman when he agreed to spend the week with Brie. And he certainly can't believe that she has feelings for him. Will he allow himself to enjoy her and what she is offering or will he continue to punish himself for things that were forgiven long ago??

I loved Brie and Cyrus's story. There's laughter and tears in this book and I think it's a great Christmas read. Cyrus's was trying to do the right thing (as he saw it) and I was shouting at the book 'no!'
Both the main characters were great and it was lovely that these 2 series was brought nicely together. This book can be read alone but think it would be better if you have read the Damon series as you can see how Cyrus's really changed over time.
I received this ARC in exchange for a honest review. Though this author and when she writes under Claire Kent are a auto buy for me.

This is a story of a thirty year old woman who finds the company of a fifty year old man. He has a past that keeps him from feeling that he truly does deserve happiness. I love how Brie is patient with him and is not really dramatic to his reactions to his feelings. This is a beautiful story, definitely worth reading. I love how Adams brings in characters from her other stories, which was a wonderful surprise for me. She writes beautiful love stories with just the right amount of love making. Definitely a must read if you like sweet love stories.

This was a very enjoyable book. It was so great to finally find out more about Cyrus. Brie is so sweet. Gordon, Cyrus's butler was funny and kept pushing Cyrus when he needed it. I am enjoying this whole series! I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was a fabulous book. I love how Noelle ties all the series together in this story. This one really pulls on the heartstrings a little. I love a good Christmas book.
