Excavated

Rate this book
Lucy has more than enough in her life to juggle. With a failed marriage, three broken engagements, a popular ghost-hunting show, and a Bichon Frise, she doesn't need any more complications. So when she heads to the Orkney Islands to investigate and film a prehistoric site, she doesn't expect to be confronted with the man who broke her heart in college. She also doesn't expect to still be irresistibly attracted to him.

Philip has devoted his life to his career in archaeology, and he doesn't appreciate being forced to entertain a nitwit ghost-hunter on his dig site. But when he discovers the ghost-hunter is Lucy, his controlled, driven existence suddenly spirals out of control. A week of hot sex might be a reasonable indulgence--given the circumstances--but anything more than that is strictly off the table.

They have far too much history between them, and it's just too hard to dig it all up.

Excavated is a sexy, contemporary romance novella (35,000 words).

Noelle handwrote her first romance novel in a spiral-bound notebook when she was twelve, and she hasn't stopped writing since. She has lived in eight different states and currently resides in Virginia, where she teaches English, reads any book she can get her hands on, and offers tribute to a very spoiled cocker spaniel.

She loves travel, art, history, and ice cream. After spending far too many years of her life in graduate school, she has decided to reorient her priorities and focus on writing contemporary romances.

An entertaining and heartfelt book

This book was a wonderful story about Lucy and the man that hurt her fourteen years earlier. He is now an archaeologist and she happens upon his dig while preparing for her web show.

The chemistry of these two is so strong. It was a very good book. The tension as she tries to fight the feelings she had years before that keep creeping up on her.

But he burned her once and she is not going to let him burn her again. Very enjoyable book.

Despite this being a short read, Lucy and Philip are well developed and their story completely believable. The sparks that ignited between them were fun to read about, first from anger and then from chemistry. And when they give in to the heat...holy heck, this couple were an inferno!

The evolution of their relationship was unique and I adored how Philip recognized what Lucy needed at one point when she did not. I loved that once he was committed to her, he was all in. Having his point of view really brought his character to life in a way that made me love him all the more. Can you tell I loved Philip? Swoon!

Overall, loved this couple and they way they moved from the past to confronting their relationship conflict and finding their HEA.

Loved it! I picked this one up quite some time ago during a free promotion, but I just now got around to reading it. I have to say I just adored it. It's a second chance love story of sorts - Lucy and Philip knew each other and shared a kiss in college, and they are now thrown again together as 30 something adults in a work setting. I loved that the characters are smart and mature. They have some unresolved issues from their past, and I enjoyed being a part of their journey as the face them head on. Philip in particular isn't afraid to ask for what he wants, and that's a future with Lucy despite how much she fears to hope for that. I loved every minute of this! Can't wait for more!

Where to even start with this one... in a nutshell, it was awful. Not just plain awful, but cringeworthy awful. The hero and heroine were 30-somethings that acted like they were 12. The whole schtick was that Lucy was pissed at Phillip because he, *gasp*, couldn't read her mind when they were in college while she was madly in puppy love with him. Seriously. She never told him, he was just supposed to figure out out. Of course he didn't, because he's a man. So this was just 200-whatever pages of pre-teen 'I'm going to cut my wrists before giving you the time of day' angst. Oh, but I'll have shit tons of really awkwardly written sex over the next 8 months with you just because I can, but still hate you for NOT taking advantage of me in the process. Ugh.

Lucy and Phillip are tossed together so she can film her show. He doesn't want anyone coming to interrupt or disturb his work. Especially someone filming about paranormal. She doesn't want to deal with someone who isn't going to take her seriously. Neither knew it was someone from their past.

This book is a slow burn, it starts off with an assumption and moves into a push and pull. It's nice to see why they missed their chance the first time around. It took a couple chapters to really get this book going, but once it did it was a book full of chemistry and development.

I own a paperback copy.

This was a quick and steamy read. I loved how the story played the trope of resurrected passion, and very much enjoyed the heroine's display of sass (obviously, the outrageous outfit is an audience bait). Some scene transitions were awfully fun to read, too.

Philip and Lucy have battle-hardened wounds of past failed relationships, and I appreciate the way they got over their reservations of falling into a new one. When their one-day-at-a-time arrangement is shaping to be a commitment that Philip wants to pursue, I like how he turns from cool to earnest. I just find Lucy's decade-old reason she's reluctant to trust Philip a bit hard to swallow, if not anti-climactic. I may have hissed a bit, heh.

I so so so love this exchange at the end, though:

"When did you get to be such an expert on commitment?"

He smiled as he lifted his head to gaze down at her. "Are you serious? I've never had a problem with commitment."

She thought about that for a minute and then seemed to realize he was right. "I guess your problem was finding the right thing to commit to."

Right-o.

I've read books from this author before, but they were all better than this one. Honestly, I was bored.

Philip seems like he has a stick up his ass for almost the entire book, and Lucy is holding a (14 year old!!!!) grudge against him for something so stupid. These people are 37 and 31 years old and yet they were acting like immature teens half the time.

The archeology/ghost hunting stuff had potential to be interesting, but it was a very minor subplot.

I am between 3,5 and 4 since i will read anything from the author!

That was a fun and quick read.It was actually one of those time that the female protagonist was hitting on my nerves instead the male. While Philip was all right with his feelings and more stable Lucy was so unsucure more of the time.Every time i was reading the "I dont know" i wanted to slap her hard!

But still fun as always!

Didn't grab me

The premise was interesting and I was actually interested from the very beginning but some of the scenes didn't fit together right and there seemed to be too much mystery around their past without as much resolution as I was hoping for. The end was very satisfying but the middle was hard to get through.

Pretty good novella. Liked the characters and the setting, enjoyed overall. A little skimy on the background, and really skimpy on her reasons for being mad at him - waaaayy OTT drama reaction for how their past was set up, really skirted the suspension of disbelief line. But, overall I enjoyed and wanted their HEA.

This story started out with promise, but bored and annoyed me by the end. Lucy's entire grudge against Philip is pretty dumb. I get that she feels betrayed, but it honestly wasn't a betrayal. It was two people who grew apart. That's life. And with these characters in their 30s, it gives them the aura of immaturity that they don't understand that.

This was a great shorter story! I loved how these two had a history and how they finally talked about the past. These two had such a chemistry. I couldn't put this down! Another great one from Noelle!

Touched my heart

Noelle Adams has created personalities for her characters that grabbed my heart. The intensity, drive, strength of character and vulnerability of both Phillip and Lucy makes me want to know them even better.

Not my favorite

While I love Noelle Adams, this was not one of my favorite books that she has written. Story line was okay, I just felt like it was missing something.
