Steven Awalt's first book, "Steven Spielberg and Duel: The Making of a Film Career", on the making of Spielberg's 1971 film, "Duel", was released in hardcover by Rowman & Littlefield in March, 2014. The book features new interviews with Steven Spielberg, author Richard Matheson and others about Matheson's short story and script and the Spielberg film's production and history.

Awalt is currently working on a follow-up book about Steven Spielberg's 1974 feature film "The Sugarland Express." The book will include new interviews with actors Goldie Hawn, William Atherton and Michael Sacks, screenwriters Hal Barwood and Matthew Robbins, director of photography Vilmos Zsigmond, and many more.
