The Decennial is over, but for the students of Blackwood Academy, the fight for the afterlife has just begun.
The infamous school was hiding more secrets—and lies—than any of the Decennial’s participants could have imagined. And there’s still so much that remains buried beneath its ancient foundations. Now the future of the academy, and all the souls within it, rests in the hands of six former The charmer and the golden boy . . . The traitor and the girl desperate to save her . . . The Chosen One and the one who would choose her over and over again . . .
Any of them could be the hero the afterlife needs . . . or the villain who will destroy it for good. Because the truth is, Blackwood’s biggest secret has yet to come to light—and when it does, it will shake the institution to its core.

She was born and raised in Miami to a Peruvian mother and Chilean father, where she acquired a penchant for afternoon cafecitos and developed an all-consuming obsession with books. Her writing ambitions began behind her grandparents’ computer, where she spent her childhood crafting spooky and fantastical short stories. When she is not writing, you can find her rock climbing or watching atmospheric Youtube videos with her dog, Mr. Darcy.
⊹“i will find you. wherever we go. wherever we end up. that is my promise to you, wren loughty. i will find you. i will find you.”
omfg that ending made me go through the five stages of grief. i’m so glad i decided to reread book one before starting this and i definitely recommend doing the same for the full experience (and emotional damage) 🥹
in all honesty, the first half of this book didn’t fully sell me. the constant switching between the six povs was confusing especially with so much of the world being expanded. fortunately, it picked up by the second half and i was able to invest myself in the story. i do wish our main six had spent more time together though! it didn’t really feel like a found family apart from masika, emilio, and olivier, whose dynamic i ended up loving a lot.
i also want to point out irene’s character arc because it was simply so, so stunning. i.v. marie did an exceptional job writing her. and my beloved augustwren :’) if i think too much about them i will start crying again. the way they love and care and protect each other both broke and healed me at the same time. i truly adored them beyond words.
each of their endings was unbearably bittersweet, and yet it somehow felt… inevitable. true to who they were and the choices they would make again and again. really, at the end of it all, love is not a feeling of happiness. it’s a willingness to sacrifice, to hope, and this story drove that home in the most moving way.
ⓘ thank you to netgalley and random house for the arc!
Thank you to netgalley and Harpercollins publishing for this ARC !
Good job I.V. Marie. You broke my heart again. Never have I cried so hard at the ending of a book. This was such a bittersweet, cute ending, and it felt like such a perfect wrapup to the series. I also loved that each pair/couple’s stories were so nicely wrapped up. WrenAugust my loves, they deserved so so much better, but their ending was honestly inevitable. I think if anyone enjoyed Our Infinite Fates by Lauren Steven, they’ll really love this.
⋆·˚ ༘ * August ⋆·˚ ༘ * August my king of yearning. He’s my favourite tortured MMC, and his loyalty to Wren is genuinely the most heartwarming thing ever. I mean this man LITERALLY gave Wren a piece of his soul to save her in the first book. There were definitely plot twists I never would’ve seen coming, and my jaw was ON THE FLOOR more than once. I think it’s very obvious that August would follow Wren to the ENDS OF THE EARTH. Soulmates in every way.
𝜗𝜚⋆₊˚ Wren 𝜗𝜚⋆₊˚
JUSTICE FOR WREN. It was so sad to read and see the progression of the prophecy, and some of the things she remembered and went through. I really hope we get to see her life before Blackwood in the novella when she was HAPPY, not the heartbreaking snippets we got in this book 😭. I also love that unlike some books, she very clearly loves August just as much as he loves her. They will forever hold such a special place in my heart.
𐙚⋆.˚ Masika and Irene 𐙚⋆.˚
BEFORE anyone comes for me, I want to say I never hated Irene. What she did in the first book was wrong, but in the end, she was just a girl who’d never truly known love. Irene deserved so much better. Masika never truly gave up on her, and I love her devotion to both Irene and their friendship so much. Masika deserves all the goodness in the world, and I love that her relationship with Catherine slowly healed throughout the book and that she was abl to forgive her. ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ Olivier and Emilio ˏˋ°•*⁀➷
I CRIED THE HARDEST DURING THEIR ENDING. My babies deserve everything and so much more. They’re my favourite couple (after wren&August.). I cried so many times watching Olivier go through the forgetting, but hiding it from Emilio because he didn’t want him to worry. I love them so much, and I hope that they get their happy ending.

I don’t know what this book is called, I don’t know what the cover looks like, I don’t even know what the plot is. But I’m seated in an Ayo Edebiri way.
And I'm back at Blackwood Academy where more secrets and lies are hidden within its walls and 6 students (in the afterlife) will either become villains or the heroes.
This is one of the most gorgeous covers I've seen, I'm beyond grateful to receive an early copy. Immortal Consequences was a total hit, great concept, great execution, appropriate for anyone in any age group (yes even 12+!). Check out my review of book 1 if you're interested in starting this duology!
Many thanks to NetGalley, Random House Children's Books/Delacorte Press and the author, I.V Marie for the early copy.
Finished this book a week ago and I am still just thinking about it. It was difficult to word how much I loved this and how many emotions this book made me feel. (Sorry not sorry IV for the crying selfie you got)
Definitely recommend a reread of the last 100 or so pages of Immortal Consequences before reading, if you, like me, struggle to remember details. Ruinous Ends starts off right in the thick of it and it’s absolutely worth the reread to get the full experience.
From this point on, some spoilers for Immortal Consequences!!!
Immortal Consequences ends with our characters split up. Normally I’m wary when this happens in books, because we then get a ton of new side characters that vanish. Thank god that wasn’t the case here; all of the side characters are important and well developed… and I cried over them a few times.
Irene wasn’t my favorite character in the first book, but her arc in this book was absolutely phenomenal. She truly grew so much as a character and I was routing for her so hard. I loved the others as well and their arcs, but hers stood out so much because of how much my opinion of her changed. I struggle to like the mean characters, but it was so clearly why she was how she was.
I was so happy with the ending. I felt each character got the ending that made the most sense for their arc. I sobbed for a solid hour but 10/10 was absolutely worth it.
I’m always nervous reading a sequel for a book I got a ton of copies for… now I will be getting the sequels to match all my copies. And I absolutely cannot wait to read Twisted Vows because I cannot handle never seeing any of these characters again. I also cannot wait to read anything else IV Marie writes!!!
Thank You Net Galley for giving me access to an e-arc for Ruinous Ends!
Currently, Ruinous Ends is one of my favorite reads of the year. Having already enjoyed the first book in the Immortal Consequences series, and being left on quite the cliffhanger, I was eagerly anticipating the sequel. It absolutely did not disappoint. In fact, I may have enjoyed Ruinous Ends even more than Immortal Consequences because of how successfully it builds on the first book and delivers such an emotionally packed story. As a reader who tends to prefer strong, character-driven narratives over plot-heavy ones, I loved seeing growth from all six of the student protagonists. By the end, I found myself appreciating each of them, even when I was frustrated with some of their decisions, especially Irene. I also appreciated that the fantasy elements of this afterlife-based world remain easy to follow, even as the story expands and builds on the foundation laid in the first book. I also have to mention the relationships. Wren and August have become one of my favorite couples. The yearning between them, and the lengths they go to in trying to save each other, made their relationship incredibly compelling to read. That said, I also couldn’t get enough of Olivier and Emilio, who were another special couple to follow throughout the story. Overall, Ruinous Ends is a five-star read for me, and I highly recommend it and the Souls of Blackwood duology as a whole. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for future books by I. V. Marie. I’m also eagerly awaiting the Wren and August novella coming this October!

𖦹 ׂ 𓈒 🐦⬛ / ⋆ ۪So I’m literally dead. I knew this book was going to destroy me. What an end. I will say that the first half of this book was kinda disappointing and it was taking me a while to get through but around half way I got hooked and that ending?? I am shaken and I cry every time I think about it. It was such a bittersweet end to a beautiful series. I can not wait for the novella. This series is so special to me and I absolutely adore it. The writing in this book didn’t feel as complex and luxurious as the first but it was still rly fast paced and good! All of the plot twists were amazing and WREN AND AUGUST?! Cutest couple ever. Their character development in particular was INSANE. You could tell that I.V. Marie had such a fun time writing them. I just adore this book and while it was not as good as the first I still had the best time reading it!! ⊱ ۫ ׅ ✧

𖦹 ׂ 𓈒 🐦⬛ / ⋆ ۪I think this plot pretty much picks up right after Immortal Consequences! I was going to do a re read of Immortal Consequences first but I didn’t get to it so I don't know fs! But this plot was soooo good! I loved how it went into more depth about the backstory and everything I thought that was cool! At some times I did feel like it could have been either explained better or just longer but I can’t complain because it is still amazing lol. I loved getting to know Wren and August so much better and same with Masika! I missed them all together and everything and it was kinda sad that I didn’t see quite so much of Olivier and Emilio because they were my favorites but I grew to love Masika, Wren and August SO MUCH throughout the plot of this book! I just loved this plot and I THINK that this is the last book other than the novella…? Idk I feel like this was a rly good ending but who knows maybe there will be more to come! ⊱ ۫ ׅ ✧

𖦹 ׂ 𓈒 🐦⬛ / ⋆ ۪Omfg I love her so much. She is such an icon and such a good character. I got to see a whole different side of her in this book and it was so nice to see her opening up! Her relationship with August is the best thing ever and it is just so wholesome. I love her so much for being so brave and I just loved all of her chapters! She is so loyal it makes me want to sob. All of the characters in this book are just so good I want to scream. She is just amazing and idk what else to say about her lmao. She deserved so much better but she also got a good ending. I have such mixed feelings on whether that ending was good or bad omg. ⊱ ۫ ׅ ✧

𖦹 ׂ 𓈒 🐦⬛ / ⋆ ۪The standard has been raised once again I fear 😫💕 he is so so kind to Wren and it makes me want to cry tears of happiness. He loves her so so much and I have so many of his parts highlighted because he is just such a gentleman with such a kind heart. I loved getting to know him better but I also wish it was easier to hold a grudge against him from the first book lmfao. I couldn’t stay mad at him AT ALL. I picked this up and immediately forgave him lol. I honestly was sobbing whenever he was sad because he was very closed off in the first book and seeing his cracked mask is enough to send me spiraling lol. ⊱ ۫ ׅ ✧

I think the ending itself was great but me being the needy bitch I am I wanted A DIFFERENT ENDING. It makes me cry just thinking about it and it is both happy and sad tears. He loved Emilio so so much and it was so sweet. I loved them so much together. He is just such a great character and I wish I got more from him with this book. I feel like we didn’t get many chapters of him nor Emilio so that was kinda sad. But overall, I still love him with all my heart and he is so amazing. He is so sweet and kind and I loved getting to dive deeper into that side of him but also getting to see a more tough and powerful side of him! He is such a great character and I love how he comes out of his shell for Olivier. It's so sweet and I love themmmm! ⊱ ۫ ׅ ✧

She is such an awesome character with an awesome vibe. The ending she got was perfect. Although her ending also made me cry it was such a good one and I love how it all turned out for her!! She is so sweet and forgiving and even when Irene would hurt her or Catherine would she still loved and showed them kindness and I just think she is so amazing. I love her so much. ⊱ ۫ ׅ ✧

𖦹 ׂ 𓈒 🐦⬛ / ⋆ ۪I am not ok with how this ended for her. Am I looking at my fanart of her sobbing? Yes. Should I stop to breathe for a sec? No omg. Her ending got a really really NOT NEEDED cry out of me {I literally read Keeping 13 yesterday I don’t need more sadness geez}. But it got emotion out of me and that ALWAYS brings up the rating. If I am not wrecked at the end or moved in some way the book will always have a lower rating. But she is literally awful in the start and I rly didnt like her but in the end omg she was the best. I love her so so much and I wish things happened differently omg. ⊱ ۫ ׅ ✧
𖦹 ׂ 𓈒 🐦⬛ / ⋆ ۪The writing wasn’t quite as good as Immortal Consequences but it was still amazing and I ate it up!! The writing was rich and it was pretty fast paced which was nice!! So yeah, I don’t have much else to say about it! It was good! ⊱ ۫ ׅ ✧

AHHHHHHHHHH MY BABY IS FINALLY COMING TO ME 😭😭😭🥹🥹🥹🥹 ILYSM I.V. MARIE 😭😭😭 IM LITERALLY SOBBING IM SO EXITED NOBODY TALK TO ME THIS COVER IS TOO PRETTY IT HURTS
Unfortunately I am disappointed. I really loved the first book but this one felt pretty chaotic to me.
This book starts off right where Immortal Consequences ends. I went in expecting to gain a better understanding of the afterlife and what the characters were fighting for. Instead, I still have about ten thousand questions.
There is very little information given about the Demien Order or the Resistance. All we really know is one is allegedly bad and one is allegedly good. While they both seem to have a similar end-goal, I really have no idea why the groups hate each other or why they even exist. This makes it especially difficult to understand any of the characters motivations or actions.
This is where I would talk more about the world building but there was none.
The development of the six main characters left a lot to be desired. Their interactions felt superficial and I didn’t care about the characters nearly as much as I did in book one. The romance and friendships just fell really flat. I really wanted more of what I felt in the first book.
To avoid any spoilers, all I’ll say about the ending is I am incredibly dissatisfied. I guess when the plot is going in a bunch of different directions with 6 POVs there’s no good way to do it? Maybe my hopes were just too high for this one. I did love Immortal Consequences enough for me to continue reading more works by this author and I’m really looking forward to the prequel.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Children’s Books | Delacorte Press for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Ruinous Ends is the sequel to Immortal Consequences. This book starts right where the first one ended. To avoid any spoilers for the first book, this review will be vague.
I loved reading Immortal Consequences. I had received the ARC from the author, and I was so excited to read it. I loved it, and I gave the book 5 stars. Most recently, I haven't been enjoying YA books and have decided not to explore any new authors beyond the ones I've been reading.
Ruinous Ends is a dark academia fantasy with multiple POVs. The POVs are Wren, August, Emilio, Olivier, Masika, and Irene. I really enjoyed the multi-povs in the first book, but while reading this one, I found myself bored by certain povs and enjoying the others more. The issue with this is that the POVs I enjoyed the most felt shorter than the other POVs.
I enjoyed the storyline, and the pacing felt right. I did like returning to this world and being exposed to more of the magic and experiencing a different side of the world we already know. I did feel like the ending was anticlimactic. It felt very abrupt, and I don't know how to fully feel about it. I did not consume this book as quickly as I did the first until I got 60- 70%, and then I couldn't put it down.
The moment that approval email hit my inbox it was a drop everything and run to get my kindle moment. And that was the best choice because this book absolutely wrecked me. I was sobbing by the end of it. Emilio and Olivier are everything. Wren and August were so sweet and I love them. Masika and Irene!! Ugh I love their friendship. I was so worried going into this because I loved the first book so much and I was scared for the story to end but I truly enjoyed it. There were quite a few twists I wasn’t expecting and so much goes down in the last third of the book that I couldn’t stop reading. Thankfully we will get a little more of this world when Twisted Vows comes out so I don’t have to cry that it’s over just yet!
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Children’s Books, Delacorte Press for the opportunity to read this book. All opinions are my own.
this was a great conclusion to the story. i really like how the multiple povs was continued on throughout this book. to see the characters growth and development from the first book was awesome! there were some parts i skimmed through because i just wasn’t interested in what was happening within the demien order 😅 the ending felt a bit rushed but i still really enjoyed it!
