I had the pleasure of meeting Sarah at a restaurant in Camden Town, London, early this year. Sarah had decided to share her coming out story with the world. Although Sarah was lucky to have had supportive friends and parents, she also realizes that other people are not so lucky. She has shared her story to show others that coming out as gay was the happiest and joyful day of her life. In her own words she shares her feelings about the insecurities and struggle with her sexuality, she talks about her role models and the way they have inspired her. But most of all she shares her coming out story, the reactions of her friends and family and her new outlook on life.
Sarah told me that if only one person reads this book and finds comfort from her words, and is able to accept and embrace being gay, then I will have made a difference, as other people have made a difference in my life.
Our commitment Sarah and I have decided to donate 50% of the profits from this book to stonewall.org.uk. They are a lesbian, gay and bisexual charity that does amazing work with the gay community.
