“Dirty Talk” is the second installment in Megan Erickson’s contemporary adult romance series entitled “Mechanics of Love” and fallows the second eldest brothers of Payton’s family, Brent. There’s no secret I enjoy Megan’s writing and her sweet and sexy romance novels m/f or m/m. This second installment didn’t disappoint at all. It was exactly what I expected to be and much more. Needless to say it was romantic, it was sexy and put a big smile on my face.

Brent Payton works as a mechanic for his family business. All his life he had to live up to his brothers. He has earned his ladies’ man reputation, he is the joker, the comic relief, the irresponsible Payton. But he’s more than that and no one seems to see it. Brent secretly wants to be more than a mechanic and more than ‘the funny guy’. He wants to do something for others, to help, he wants to be a firefighter.

Ivy Dawn and her sister, Alex (character we met in the previous book in the series) are done with men. She, her daughter, Violet and Alex recently moved to town. They are running from a man who hurt them in the past, so she doesn’t look for a romantic relationship. They already moved twice to get away from men who had ruined their past, so all she wants now is to provide for her daughter, to find a job and to raise her daughter in peace and quite. Needless to say she didn’t expect a dirty-talking, gorgeous mechanic to shakes everything up.

description

“She wanted to smack him and kiss him at the same time. Like a smackiss. Brent was the perfect example of a man who needed an excellent smackiss.”

If you want something sweet, romantic with some sexy and funny moments this book/series might be the perfect series for you. I enjoyed this second installment as much as I enjoyed the first. I think Brent, the male main character was my favorite…aspect of the story. Like I mentioned we get to meet him in the previous book in the series where honestly he immediately managed to charm me. His character development was done really well here. In this installment he was simply adorable and like I expected he proved there’s more to him than meets the eye. He was the perfect blend of sweet and sexy and I loved him to pieces. He was my kind of guy. He was funny, but he also was serious and responsible and he proved it numerous times. He was genuinely a good guy and like we saw in the previous book he’s a great son and brother. He’s sweet and thoughtful, caring and patient and I loved how he treated Ivy and how smitten he was with her. There was no insta-love between them and I appreciate that.

description

However, like his brother he’s a dirty talker and I have to say I loved his dirty mouth.

Ivy was a great heroine as well. She was very easy to like. She’s a great sister and a great mother. She would do anything for these two because they mean everything to her. She’s strong, compassionate, sweet and caring and all I can say is that I liked her a lot.

description

The chemistry between Brent and Ivy was off the charts. From the beginning it was palpable. I loved all their sexy times. They were sweet and at times fun, but I also loved all their sweet moments and dates. They felt good together and I loved how easily they interacted with each other. They were comfortable with each other from the start and I enjoyed how supportive and honest they were from the beginning with each other. Brent was perfect not only for Ivy, but for her daughter, Violet as well. Brent's relationship with Violet was pur and simple adorable. He was sweet and patient with her and you can actually feel how much he cares about her.

There’s no angst and there’s no unnecessary drama which I enjoyed. I liked all the supportive characters – Brent’s family and Ivy’s new friends. All of them were great, their dynamic entertaining and made this story truly enjoyable.

All in all, “Dirty Talk” was a terrific, easy to read novel, sweet and funny with endearing main and supportive characters, plenty of sexy moments and a romance that will make you swoon.

”No more men.”

description

Megan Erickson delivered a sweet, sexy, and endearing book boyfriend in Brent Payton. I actually liked this second book in the series much more than the first book. All the credit goes to Brent, Honey Bear, his neighbor (wished he was getting next book) Ivy and sweet little Violet.

Brent works at the family’s shop and has never been taken seriously by anyone. Ivy waltzes into the shop to meet up with her sister Alex, the new female mechanic and Brent gets shot down at first. Still Brent is taken with Ivy and would love to get to know her better.

”She is … more than hot. But it’s not just that. I like her kid. Violet is… vulnerable.”

Brent has a great sense of humor but he’s tired of being seen by family and friends as a man who doesn’t take his job seriously and someone who couldn’t fall in love.

”Do you think I’m a joke? Tell me now, Ivy, and I’ll leave you alone. I’ll walk away.”

[image error]

Ivy and Alex have made a pact. So far things in Tory have been working out well for them as long as they stick to the no more men rule. They are all one another has and this is their fresh start. What Ivy struggles with is that slowly Brent chips away and shows her the great guy he and is. Brent’s simply irresistible but sadly, the men in Ivy’s past have left some walls up and Brent tries to break them down.

”It fucking sucked because Brent not only had to climb the vine of Ivy for himself, but he had to battle the demons caused by the other guys along the way.”

The story takes a turn when Alex gets spooked and Ivy finds she has to make a choice.

”He’s worth staying for. But you’re also worth leaving for.”

Overall, this story had some really sweet interactions between Brent and little Violet and some very sexy scenes that did in fact live up to the title’s promise. I’m hoping to see more of Brent and Ivy in future books!!

3.5 stars!

Dirty Talk is the second book off of Megan Erickson's Mechanics of Love series. Brent Payton is the "fun & easy" Payton brother. For years Brent struggled with how he was perceived by other people and even by his own family. They see him as someone who's easy and doesn't really have anything deep to offer. For years, Brent had been content with the label until he met Ivy Dawn, the younger sister of their newly hired mechanic. Brent wants to prove to Ivy that there's more to him than meets the eye. But Ivy's life and that of her daughter and sister is far from ideal. Running from her sister's emotionally abusive boyfriend, the sisters vowed to have not to allow men to ruin their lives anymore. But her attraction to Brent and their chemistry together may be too strong for Ivy to resist, especially when Brent allowed her to glimpse of the man underneath the cocky swagger.

As usual Megan Erickson delivered a romance filled with richly drawn characters, banter, family drama and sizzling chemistry. The book started out slow for me and didn't really pick up until the second half. Even so, Ivy and Brent's relationship was fun to root. But it was Brent's relationship with Ivy's daughter Violet and his friendship with his wheelchair bound neighbor that held my attention throughout the book. It showed Brent's character, the one that he tries to hide from other people. I've also grown to love Cal and Brent's gruff father, Jack. His little speech to Alex brought tears to my eyes.

Now as to why only 3.5? As much as I enjoyed the Brent and Ivy together, I never felt like they're the one true pair in the book because Brent could easily be with either Alex or Davis. It's like there were too many possibility and one scene could change it from an Ivy-Brent pairing to Davis-Brent or even Alex-Brent. But that's just me. Maybe I need to read M/M soon because I clearly need some of that action. Anyhoo, I liked this one but I still enjoyed the first book more.

At this point it’s really no surprise that I’ve fallen in love with yet another Megan Erickson book. This woman can write romances that are fun and dirty, romances that are emotional and intense, and romances that are lighthearted and sexy, but all of them make this romantic’s heart satisfied. Dirty Talk, the second in her Mechanics of Love series, is no different, though there is one quibble I’ll address later. 99% of this book is absolute perfection, and I couldn’t have asked for better paced romance. As you can expect from the titles of these books and from the fact that they’re centered around hot mechanics, there’s plenty of naughtiness to go around, but also characters who will worm their way right into your heart.

We first met Brent in Dirty Thoughts, and I immediately couldn’t wait to get his story. He had some of the funniest dialogue, saying whatever ridiculousness came into his head, yet he was utterly charming about it. I knew right away that, behind his spitfire and jokester personality, he was a guy who would fall hard for the right girl. I love book boys who are unabashedly smitten with the heroines, and that’s definitely the case with Brent. As soon as he meets Ivy for the first time, he’s committed to showing her that there’s more to him than meets the eye. Sure he can be funny and he’s always done the casual thing with girls, but I like how we get into his head in this book and really see what a genuine guy Brent is. He has dreams of his own and wants to be taken seriously but until Ivy hasn’t tried to change anyone’s opinion of him. It was amazing to see him step outside of the expectations others and even he himself placed on him, wanting to be a better man for Ivy.

I thought Ivy was Brent’s perfect match. She, her daughter, and her older sister recently moved to town, escaping from the men who have hurt them in the past. She has her walls up, determined to protect herself and her family, but really she’s no match for Brent. I was initially worried that there would be too much angst surrounding this set up, that Ivy would always keep Brent at a distance, but she has a warm and caring heart that made this impossible. She can admit to herself that her feelings for Brent are running much deeper than she could have anticipated, and while she tries to fight it at first, she does realize soon enough that to throw him away would be the height of idiocy. I like that she slowly lets Brent in and, what’s more, sees him for who he is rather than who everyone else sees him as.

The romance, of course, is fantastic. The chemistry between Brent and Ivy is tangible from their very first meeting, and it only gets hotter from there on out. Every time the focus of the book was away from them, I got more and more anxious for their next scene together, knowing it would make me swoon. It was torturous and toe-curling and downright tantalizing. Brent being Brent, he’s definitely a dirty talker, and I was all ears. But he’s also got a sweet side, and I absolutely adored the way he opened up to her and tried to get her to do the same. Their conversations are so genuine, which made the romance all the more believable. Now, as I mentioned above, there is one part of the story that really bothered me and that I’m hoping can somehow be fixed before the final version. It might be just a blip to some readers, but it took me out of the romance and seemed very out place (not to mention unnecessary). It’s a small scene but it definitely didn’t sit right with me.

Other than that, I really have no complaints about this book. It is completely drama free, the characters are never stuck in their own heads to the point of frustration, and the romance is always building to something greater. I loved Ivy and Brent together, and the last two chapters especially made me happy. I also like the emphasis on family and friends; Brent is adorable with Ivy’s daughter, and he makes a new friend who I hope gets his own story. Of course, the couple from the previous book is present as well and I couldn’t help but to smile at Cal’s grumpiness.

Obviously I will read whatever Megan writes, and I’m already counting down the days until her next release. If you haven’t yet read any of her romances, make sure you remedy that asap. They will have you swooning and your heart fluttering.

Special thanks to the author for sending me an advanced copy! This did not affect my review in any way.

Dirty Talk by Megan Erickson
Book Two of the Mechanics of Love series
Publisher: Avon Impulse
Publication Date: September 15, 2015
Rating: 3 stars

***Warning: this is an adult book, and for the eyes of mature readers***

Official Summary:

Brent Payton has a reputation for wanting to have fun, all the time. It’s well-earned after years of ribbing his brothers and flirting with every girl he meets, but he’s more than just a good time, even though nobody takes the time to see it. When a new girl walks into his family’s garage with big thoughtful eyes and legs for days, this mechanic wants something serious for the first time.

Ivy Dawn is done with men, all of them. She and her sister uprooted their lives for them too many times and she’s not willing to do it again. Avoiding the opposite sex at all costs seems easy enough, until the sexy mechanic with the dirty mouth bursts into her life.

Brent can’t resist the one woman who sees past his devil-may-care facade and Ivy finds it harder and harder to deny how happy he makes her. But Ivy has secrets she hasn’t shared and when the truth comes out, she must decide if she’s willing to take one more chance on love or let him go forever.

What I Liked:

I liked this book but didn't love it. Dirty Thoughts was much better, in my opinion. There are a couple of things that I didn't like about this book that are specifically Alyssa dislikes, but overall, this one is probably my least favorite Erickson novel that I've read. Of course, three stars isn't bad!

Brent is a flirt, the not-serious Payton, the jokester. He has a reputation among women, and his coworker Alex's, Ivy, knows all about this reputation. Brent is interested in Ivy, but Ivy shuts him down before he can even begin. What is lurking behind Ivy's walls? Ivy doesn't swoon or fall at Brent's feet, and she's got a host of reasons to stay away from him. Except that most of them have nothing to do with Brent.

I absolutely love this series's males. Hot mechanics? Yes please! Brent and Cal are the two mechanics in the family (and Jack, their father), and both men are super sexy men! I prefer Cal to Brent (I think?) but it's a pretty close competition. Cal and his grumpiness really appeals to me! But Brent and his flirtiness also appeals to me (flirtiness is now a word). Cal was our male protagonist in Dirty Thoughts, and the oldest Payton brother.

So I liked Brent, a lot. I had a feeling that I would, so I'm glad I wasn't disappointed. Ivy, meh. I didn't love her, but I didn't hate her. I feel like I didn't connect with her at all. She seemed one-dimensional, despite having a boatload of problems from her past, present, and future.

So Ivy was a bit meh for me. I like Alex a lot - that's Ivy's sister, and Brent/Cal's coworker. I can't wait to read her book next. The other Payton brothers show up in this book, as well as Jenna, Julian, Delilah, and other favorites from Dirty Thoughts. I like that the cast was fairly reoccurring.

The romance is pretty steamy! Definitely not Erickson's steamiest chemistry-filled book, but it was s steamy one. Ivy is totally reluctant to even hang out with Brent, let alone get up close and personal. But when some of her walls finally start to come down, the chemistry hikes up.

The drama in this book was a bit much for me, but overall, the story was good. I wasn't feeling it like I was Dirty Thoughts, but I have no regrets with this book. On to Dirty Deeds!

What I Did Not Like:

Ehhhhh. Ivy, I didn't like her or hate her. I couldn't get a good read on her. She seemed one-dimensional, like I said earlier. Like she had no personality. Maybe because she was constantly hiding behind her walls, all we see is a scared, expressionless woman. Boooooring.

I don't see the attraction. Okay, I can see why Ivy is hot for Brent. But not the other way around. Why did Brent become fixated on Ivy? Where was the attraction - was it the chase? Her body? I'm not clear as to what drew him in.

POSSIBLE SPOILER AHEAD: Ivy has a kid. She's six, and totally cute, but I generally dislike romance novels with children involved. Children are such cock-blocks, and I just don't like having a plot working around a child. Especially a small child. Or an older child. Just... no child.

The drama towards the end of this book was annoying. So, so annoying. To begin with, the Big Issue and climax seemed anticlimactic. Nothing happened! He said she said, but nothing happened. Yet a ridiculous amount of drama ensues, Ivy and Brent's relationship is affected, and it just feels so forced, fake, and unnecessary. Also? Brent is too forgiving.

Maybe I'm just cold, I don't know. In any case, this book didn't do it for me.

Would I Recommend It:

I actually don't recommend this novel. Like I keep saying, Dirty Thoughts was REALLY good. Try that one. Or Erickson's Brazen novels. But this one, you can avoid, skip, never read. It's not that good of a romance novel, and I didn't really enjoy it. I liked it, but I didn't enjoy it. Heck, did I like it? I think I did. I wouldn't read it again though.

Rating:

2.5 stars -> rounded up to 3 stars. I will be reading Dirty Deeds - I have faith in Alex's story! But Ivy, ehhh. Not that fleshed out of a character, or that great of a heroine. Brent was swoony! Hopefully the male protagonist of book three is steamy and swoony as well. This was the "worst" Erickson book I've read (three stars isn't bad though), but that doesn't mean I'm going to stop reading her books!

I love Brent. And I love Ivy. And if you like your heroes with charm and humor and a little bit of a savior complex, who are willing to do whatever they can for their women, then I think this is your book.

Oh and there's a dog named Honeybear, because why not?

4.5/5

If there's one author whose works I just can't get enough of, that would be Megan Erickson. Every book of hers I read, leaves me hoping that her books never end. Getting lost within the pages of a romance novel by her is like breathing for me at this point. Dirty Talk had some pretty big shoes to fill after I fell in love with the previous book, Dirty Thoughts, but I had nothing to worry about because Dirty Talk was just as romantic, swoony and enjoyable as the previous book.

If there's one thing that Megan Erickson is a star at, that would be writing romances that melt readers into a puddle of goo and at the same time leave you fanning yourself because of how crazy hot the chemistry is. The couple in Dirty Talk was no exception. Brent, the hero of the book, wasn't the same gruff man that his brother, Cal, was in Dirty Thoughts. He was more on the charming, flirtatious side, with a dose of vulnerability that made his character pop out of the pages for me. Being the middle child in the Payton family wasn't the easiest for Brent. He always felt like he needed to live up to his older and younger brother. Brent, however, never resented his brothers. I love how this series seems to focus so much on family relationships. These boys were clearly very close to one another, willing to take bullets for each other, and their loyalty and love for each other was endearing. For them, Brent especially, family was important and their actions throughout the series has more than proved that.

Besides working as mechanic at his family's auto-shop, Brent had other aspirations, and together with a new friend that he made in Dirty Talk, he came to the realization how important it was for him to take steps to reach those goals. I couldn't have been any prouder of this boy! Speaking of the new friend, I loved Davis' and Brent's bromance together, fueled by Brent's dog, Honeybear (YES! His name was Honeybear!). They were a riot together, pulling each other's legs and the same time, providing support when they needed each other. I don't know if Megan Erickson currently has plans to write his book, but I'm sincerely hoping that we get to read his happily-ever-after as well.

Megan Erickson also has the uncanny ability to write female protagonists that you not only cheer for, but also admire. Ivy in Dirty Talk was so wonderful. A single mother, she and her sister were running away from a dangerous man. I loved how loving Ivy was whether it came to her daughter, Violet, who was precious by the way or Alex, her sister who was battling with the aftermaths of emotional abuse. I couldn't help but admire how headstrong and resilient she was, and how she was willing to go to lengths to keep Alex and Violet happy. I was so happy that she found a companion in Brent because he was the perfect match for her.

Together, they had so much chemistry, but what stood out to me was how much heart there was to their relationship. This was a couple that were emotionally tied together and this was very much palpable throughout Dirty Talk. They talked, were supportive of each other and truly cared for one another. Basically, I want every romance couple to be like them! Their burgeoning romance was wonderful to read about, especially because it remained drama and angst-free, and they were a couple who I couldn't wait to see in a relationship from their very first flirty banter. I can't talk about Ivy and Brent's sweet romance without mentioning how hot they were as a couple. Phew! Megan Erickson sure does know how to steam up the pages with their flaming chemistry.

I also want to quickly mention how much I adored Brent's relationship with Ivy's daughter, Violet. Violet had seen things that a young child never should have to see and was terrified of men, and watching her slowly open up to Brent was sweet. He was patient with her and he clearly loved the little girl as his own. My heart would burst with happiness whenever he interacted with her and I couldn't get over how adorable their relationship was. Truth be told, I would have still read and loved the heck out of this book if it had been only about Brent and Violet. That's how much I loved this duo.

Romance fans, if you haven't read fallen in love with Megan Erickson's books, please do yourself a favor and change that as soon as possible. This is an author who, I promise you, will leave you in a bubble of happiness once you're done reading her books. I've loved every book that she has written, but I think the Mechanics of Love series is my absolute favorite. Dirty Talk just solidified my love for the series and now I'm impatiently looking forward to reading the next book, featuring Alex and a sexy Brit in Dirty Deeds.

It really should come as no surprise that I loved this book, this hero, this story. I swear, it's like Megan Erickson has access to my brain and knows exactly what to write, and exactly when I need to read it...

Brent Payton is a sweet-and-dirty talking mechanic; one that has NO trouble with the ladies until Ivy Dawn sways her way into his automotive repair shop.

Ivy's been through a lot in her life, and along with her sister, Alex, she's sworn off men—forever. Only, Brent is a surprise she never saw coming.

Beneath the playful, anything-goes exterior is a man that makes her happy, who’s as good as he is bad, and that makes him hard to resist. But when the past collides with her perfect present, Ivy's suddenly facing a choice she doesn't want to make...

Oh, Brent. Seriously, I think he may be my favorite of Ms. Erickson's men so far, and damn, she's had some doozies, including (but not limited to) Brent's brothers, Cal and Max. But Brent is just...WOW. Charming, dirty-talkin' ladies’ man meets kind, protective soul, all wrapped up in a Captain America package. That's some kinda wonderful right there.

Dirty Talk did something for/to me that I needed. After a rough morning, I picked this one up and got completely lost in it. Despite my own roiling emotions, it made me happy, it made me smile and, even as it made me cry just a little, it made me laugh. And that cannot be underestimated.

Ms. Erickson, as I said, has to have some psychic abilities—I mean, how else could she write a book with a hero like Brent, who just wants to be taken seriously, and a heroine like Ivy, who I wanted to jump up and protect, and know that I needed it right now? ~ Beth, 5 stars

~~~
I would kind of like to live inside Megan Erickson’s brain. I know that probably makes me some kind of weirdo, but let’s think about this for a minute. The things that come out of that brain are phenomenal. I can only imagine that living inside of it would be a veritable feast of sexy, strong, funny men; panty scorching sex scenes, and heart melting swoonery. What makes me think that?
This book.
THIS BOOK.
All the books, really. But this book just killed me dead over and over again. Brent is the third Payton brother we’ve met. He’s the middle brother, the “forgotten” and “disregarded” one. He’s the love ‘em and leave ‘em guy, and he's loved and left most of the women in his small town. Brent is the brother nobody takes seriously, and that’s a role he’s gladly embraced. Until Ivy...
Ivy has been officially scared off of relationships. She doesn’t really know what a good one looks like, much less what it feels like. She's decided to focus her life on her family—no more men. So, when she meets Brent she is all prickly thorns and sharp edges. But she sees him in a way that nobody else ever has; when others write him off as a buffoon, Ivy can see where the digs get under his skin.
The universe conspires to give Ivy a chance to get to know Brent better, and the more time she spends with him, the more powerless she becomes to his charms. Brent shows her how multi-layered and deep he actually is. He’s brave and strong and kind. He’s hilarious. He has a dog named Honeybear which is—I can’t even properly express how adorable that is. He can be tender and sweet, or fierce and protective; a hilarious goofball, or an earnest, brave man. He's so much more than anyone ever gave him credit for. It doesn't take long before Ivy finds that Brent has slipped past all her prickly thorns and maybe she's not done with relationships after all.
The mind blowing orgasms don't hurt, either. Oh, the mind blowing orgasms! The title of this book could not be more appropriate. Brent is a dirty talker. It is hot as sin. He is hot as sin. Together they’re—what’s hotter than sin? Hot as fuck. Don’t get me wrong, all of the Payton brothers have had it going on, but Brent…sweet Jesus. Brent is my favorite Payton brother. That filthy tongue left my panties in ashes. It’s not all about my panties though. While his dirty mouth is one of my favorite things about him, it’s just one part of this whole, brilliant, loveable package.
Their road, while swoony and breathtaking at times, is bumpy. They’re so damn good together, but life doesn’t always just let things work out the easy way. One of the things I LOVED about this book (and this series) is how everyone bands together. The Payton’s are just an incredibly kick-ass family. The one time I cried in this book (and I wouldn’t say that this is a crying book) had nothing to do with Brent and Ivy and everything to do with how amazing this family is. All of them. I love them. I want to come over for Sunday supper.
This is a quick, easy read. If you’re looking for something sweet, funny, light, with periods of scorching heat, this is exactly what you’re looking for. As for me, I've now got two sexy mechanic book boyfriends, incinerated panties, and a goofy perma-grin from how adorable this book was. ~ Shelly, 5 stars
Book two in Megan Erickson’s Mechanics of Love series, focuses on the cocky, fun brother Brent, and a new girl in town named Ivy. Ivy, her young daughter and her sister Alex have all just moved to Maryland and they really want to establish some roots. Alex is the tough sister, the one Ivy turned to after her daughter’s father wanted nothing to with their new baby. Meanwhile, Alex fell in love, but her boyfriend turned into a monster. He started emotionally abusing her, scaring Ivy and her daughter too. They fled, and now they want to start over. Alex now works in the mechanic shop that Brent owns along with his father and brother Cal (Cal was hero in book one). Brent meets Ivy through Alex and wham, bam, thank you ma’am – he likes what he sees.
Brent is known as the jokester of the family. The cocky one. The one that takes nothing seriously. Very quick-witted and gorgeous as sin, he has ladies lining up and he happily obliges them. But when he sees Ivy, some true romantic feelings come to the surface. He wants to impress her and woo her like a mature adult.
And he didn’t want to care about what Ivy thought of him, but, dammit, he did. It bothered the hell out of him that she’d written him off before even meeting him. Did Alex tell her any of his good qualities? Like…Brent wracked his brain for good qualities.
While he loves his job as a mechanic, his true dream has always been to become a firefighter – but he is too embarrassed to tell his family that, thinking they will make fun of him for not being serious enough about life to take on that job. So he worries about giving Ivy the right impression. In my eyes, he does a damn fine job.
Ivy is hesitant to get involved with a man, after seeing what Alex just went through – but Brent makes her insides feel funny. After Brent helps her daughter after a school bus accident, Ivy feels like she owes him something – so he asks for a date. Not sex – just a date. And it’s romantic and cute. He holds her hand and they have great conversation.
And that’s when he didn’t care anymore about what he should or shouldn’t do. He reached over and grabbed her hand, wrapping his fingers around her palm.
At first, she kept her hand flat on the seat where it’d been. Then, slowly, so slowly, she curled his fingers around his.
He glanced at her out of the corner of his eye, and her gaze was on their hands, a small smile on her face.
He stared at the road and grinned.
After that, Ivy is in big trouble. She likes him – a lot.
I love heroes like Brent. He is funny, always has a comeback and just a really good dude. He would do anything for anyone, but his image is one that is more self-absorbed. He is a player, and has enjoyed his more wild lifestyle. But now he has a house, and a dog and he has his sights set on Ivy. Their courtship is done well in this book. Like I mentioned, they go on dates. They hold hands. They have innocent kisses and really dirty kisses. They have silly conversations- like when he tells Ivy his big plan to get women to come home with him after a date involves getting a stain on his shirt….
“Anyway, so I need to change my clothes, right? I can’t walk around looking like a slob.”
“Heck no.”
“So I take my shirt off when I drive my date home.”
“Because so many people will notice the stain while you are driving?”
“Well, I’ll notice the stain. And so will she. So I take my shirt off!” He spread his hands out, as if to say voila.
And she stared at him, blinking, waiting for more. But instead, he sat there with a satisfied smirk on his face. She cleared her throat. “That’s it?”
“That’s it.”
“That’s your grand plan? To drive home shirtless?”
“Babe, you haven’t seen me shirtless. It’s a damn-good plan. Trust me.”
They work their way up to having sex, as Ivy needs a little time to process everything. I like that she is a little fearful of getting into a relationship, but she fights for it too. She doesn’t want the fear associated with Alex’s ex to rule her life.
I really enjoyed book one in this series and I liked this one just as much. Alex’s book is next and I can’t wait to see who she is paired with.
I would classify this book as cute. Will I ever read it again, doubtful but it kept me engaged in the time I spent reading it. Ivy and her sister are new to town and have sworn off men because their choice sucks. Ivy also has beautiful six-year old daughter. Brent works with her sister and is a known playboy, known for his carefree ways. But they somehow click, and well the book was sweet and nice and so was their relationship.
My Thoughts:
Megan Erickson brings us gold again! I absolutely adore the Mechanics of Love Series. Dare I say that this series is my favorite of hers. The Payton Brothers have gotten under my skin. Sawoooon!!! I am in love! In Dirty Thoughts, we got Cal, the serious and stoic brother, and Jenna his first love's story.
Now, in Dirty Talk, we get Brent Payton, the flirty, never serious, always joking and having a good time, middle brother's story. His love interest is the sweet, beautiful, and single mother, Ivy Dawn. She just moved to town with her older sister, Alex (who just got hired as a mechanic for Payton Automotive.)
In Dirty Talk, we get the phenomenal cast from Dirty Thoughts! Jack, Cal, Jenna, Asher, Delilah, Brent, and now we get to learn all about Davis (Brent's new neighbor and friend), Alex, Ivy, and her sweet little daughter, Violet. Each of these characters contributed to the story beautifully and were extremely likable.
Alex, Ivy, and Violet have been on the run from Alex's abusive ex-boyfriend, Robby. Now that they've settled in Tory, Maryland, they have found a place that feels like "home." Alex has settled in to her job at Payton Automotive, Violet loves her school, and Ivy just got a job working at Delilah's Drawers. To top it off these three have friends, and a surrogate family with the Payton family and Delilah. However, the Dawn Sisters made a pact to stay clear of men. They have both had horrible experiences with men from their past, and don't need any extra strife in their lives.
Therefore, when Ivy meet's Brent, she promises herself to stay clear. They share a mutual attraction, and Brent is charming, flirty, and fun. However, when Brent saves Violet from a horrible event, everything changes. Ivy feels thankful for Brent, and wants to pay him back. However, all that he wants is a date with Ivy. When these two hit it off, Ivy discovers that there is a lot more to Brent than what he let's others see. She discovers his sweet, serious, and sensitive side. She realizes he is truly special. However, she made a promise to her sister not to get involved with anyone.
As Ivy and Brent start sneaking around to see each other, things get serious, and feelings grow quickly. Then, Alex learns that Robby is trying to find her. She wants to take her family far from Tory. What will Ivy do? Let down her big sister, who was there for her when nobody else was? Or, lose Brent, a man that she has fallen madly in love with?
Ivy and Brent made a beautiful couple. I loved how Ivy brought out a softer side out of Brent, and encouraged him to follow his dreams. Brent made Ivy feel beautiful, loved, and supported. He was a great friend to her, Violet, and Alex. The pacing of this story made reading effortless. I actually wanted to slow down my reading, because I wasn't ready to say goodbye to these characters. The passions flared hot between Brent and Ivy! Wow, these two had crazy chemistry! To top it off, their friendship and emotional connection made them have something so special and priceless.
My Rating:
I give, Dirty Talk, by Megan Erickson, 5 Combustible Chemistry, Meaningful Connection, Fun, Flirty, Give Brent a "Smackiss," Filled Stars! The Mechanics of Love story has phenomenal characters, scorching heat, dynamic plot lines, and sweet sweet love!!!
Well. This book officially cements Brent as being my favorite Payton boy.
Love love loved Brent. He's sweet and adorable and so much fun. I adore how he treated Ivy and especially her daughter Violet. I could swoon for days from those scenes. Ivy and Alex were both really interesting. They had some hard times and their actions make sense.
As always, it's awesome to see the other couples in the story. And there was once scene with Jack that I reread about 3 times before I could continue. Of course I wanted more, but Megan always gives me exactly what I'm looking for.
4 out of 5 stars!
I'm now 4 for 4 for Megan Erickson books! I really loved Dirty Thoughts (as well as her Brazen series) and I already wanted Brent's story even before I finished the book. I was already warned that there would be a kid involved in this book, but I wasn't worried about it with this author.
Brent is the goofball of his family. He's a damn good mechanic and a really great person and even better brother, but he's used to people around him not taking him too seriously. And for the most part, he's fine with it because that's just how he likes it. When he meets Ivy, he suddenly wants her to see him as more than just the unreliable guy. He wants Ivy and he wants Ivy to want him back. Things aren't as simple for Ivy. As a single mother and living with her sister, who has to move around often to stay away from an ex, the sisters have a pact to stick together and not to let a guy ruin their plan. This pact has worked well with Ivy so far, because she has a lot going on in her life and her little girl just isn't comfortable around men anyway. Ivy is shocked to find out that not only has Violet taken a liking to Brent, but Brent also has a soft spot for Violet as well.
What I love about these books is that are sexy and fun. I loved finding out more about Brent and seeing him realize that there is more to him that the family goofball. Besides his relationship with Ivy, there were so many other relationships to like. His relationship with Violet, his friendship with Alex and Jana, his relationship with his brothers, but my most favorite thing may just have been his friendship with Davis, his neighbor. Davis is an ex-firefighter and doesn't have many friends. He's surly and maybe just a little bit bitter about his current situation, but the way these two bonded over Brent's dog Honeybear was just too sweet. I loved how they took turns taking care of it and how they both took the dog to walk at the park. It was such a great bromance and I liked this relationship almost as much as I liked Brent's relationship with Ivy. Yup, almost as much.
A few things I wasn't too crazy about was the overall conflict. I understood the sister's need and want to stick together, but I felt like the conflict had a lot of build up just to be solved fairly quickly at the end. Which I guess is better than it being dragged out... And here's a complain you were probably never expecting to hear from me, ever: I wanted more scenes with Brent and Violet. Yup, I fully admit that I wanted more of a book kid. They had such cute chemistry, and it was so cute seeing a manly guy like Brent calling Violet 'princess' and trying his best to make his language kid-appropriate. I'm glad the focus was on Brent and Ivy, but maybe just a few extra scenes.
I really liked Dirty Talk and I'm super excited about the next book, Dirty Deeds, although I'm not excited over the wait. And can we talk about how gorgeous these covers are? I'm thinking I need these for my shelves to go with the rest of my Avon books.
What a cute book this turned out to be. I have only read one book in the Bowler University series but I know who Max Payton is. I adored Max in the book that I read and was looking forward to reading his book and then I didn’t read it. I’m a winner, right? Anyway, when I heard that this series was going to feature Max’s brothers – I was in.
Dirty Talk follows Brent Payton, the fun-loving playboy brother and Ivy Dawn as they fall in love with each other. Ivy’s sister Alex works with Brent and the Dawn sisters moved to town not too long ago to build a new life for them and Ivy’s daughter, Violet. Men haven’t been good to the Dawn sisters and they’ve moved around a lot because of them so when they plant their roots down in this latest town, they don’t plan on moving again so both Violet and Alex agreed that…no men.
The no men rule came about because their choice in men have affected Ivy’s young daughter, Violet. Violet is scared of being around men. Alex’s ex-boyfriend was emotionally abusive and being in that environment wasn’t good for someone as young as Violet.
They’re in a new town and Alex found a job that she seems to enjoy and Violet is settling into school as best as can be and things are looking up for Ivy as well so the last thing she needs is the distraction of Brent Payton.
Brent Payton can’t explain why he wants to get to know Ivy so much, I mean sure she’s gorgeous but there are plenty of gorgeous women he could hook up with but there’s something about Ivy that keeps bringing him back to her so if he wanted her in his life, he had some work to do. He had to win Ivy over but he also had to win over both Alex (who thinks he’s a horn dog) and Violet (who is terrified of men).
Seeing these two find their way toward each other was too freaking cute. I really enjoyed getting to know both Brent and Ivy. I thought they were both strong characters a part from each other but they were pretty special together. I loved the bond that blossomed between Brent and Violet. I loved the relationship that Brent had with Alex. He really won that entire family over…until Alex gets a scare and Ivy has a choice to make.
Stay and fight or flee and miss out on what was becoming the most important relationship she’s ever had with a man.
I really enjoyed this one. I thought it was super cute and the characters were all pretty fantastic. I really loved Brent. He had a lot of my favorite qualities in a hero and the way that he just wormed his way into Ivy and Violet’s heart. I loved that they wormed their way into his heart as well and I loved the way he reacted when Ivy was forced to choose between him and their relationship and her family. It was a tough spot to be in and it hurt my heart to see Brent so distraught. Erickson did a fantastic job of telling this story and I’m looking forward to more from this series.
Dirty Talk is the second book in the Mechanics of Love series and follows the story of Ivy and Brent. Ivy and her sister Alex, are through with men. Men have caused them too many problems and they’ve had to start over too many times because of them. This move to Tory was supposed to be a new start for both of them. And while swearing off men sounded like a good idea, this plan goes up in flames when Brent comes into the picture. Brent is a wonderful guy. He’s sexy, funny, hardworking and all about a good time. Only no one really takes him seriously. When Brent meets Ivy, he suddenly doesn’t want to be seen as a joke anymore. For the first time, he wants his life and relationships to mean something. However, Brent has his work cut out for him. He’s got to prove to Ivy that he’s not like all the other men that she’s known. Just when things are finally looking up for Brent and it seems like he’s got a real chance with Ivy, Ivy’s past comes to a head. Now the question will be: Will Ivy stay or will Ivy go?
Dirty Talk was a quick and easy read for me. I loved the story-line. It was fun and entertaining. It’s absolutely hard to not fall in love with the characters and want to know more about them all. The characters are real and easy to connect with. I love how Megan Erickson gives them real life problems and makes them work through their issues, without any added or unnecessary drama. I thought the story was well written and paced properly. I really enjoyed getting to spend time with the secondary characters. Most of them, I know from previous stories and it always makes me smile to see how previous characters are doing.
Dirty Talk was just the book I needed. It was fun. It was sexy. It had just the right amount of dirty talking. It was light on the drama and it kept me coming back for more. I can’t get enough of this series and I’m really looking forward to seeing who’s story will be told next!
Are you a fan of contemporary romance? Is Megan Erickson on your radar? She should be. I'm finding that I'm become a bigger fan with each and every book that I read of hers. This series revolves around a small town and a certain auto shop. The shop is run by The Payton's and let's just say I wish these guys were the local mechanics in my neighborhood.
While I enjoyed all three of these stories, the final book, Dirty Deeds, has to be my favorite. Erickson's story-telling and writing has only gotten better with each story and it really shows in book 3. Each book has a story that you'll find yourself turning pages just to learn more
The stories here are a balance of serious issues with some fun, light characters who really jump off the page. While I love all the guys, Brent is probably my favorite because he's the fun loving protective guy and I just loved his characters so much... that's not to say I didn't enjoy Cal or Spencer ... I mean Spencer *sigh*. But Brent is the kind of guy that I love, the joker who no one takes seriously but they absolutely should.
Erickson's ladies are just as captivating as the guys. They are strong and smart and ready to fight for the things they want... that said, I have to admit that I have mad love for Alex. I loved getting to know her in book 2 but she really shines in her story. I love her inner strength and the way she handles herself and ultimately her confidence in who she is and not apologizing for it.
If you're looking for a sexy contemporary romance with stories that are both emotional yet fun and you're going to want to put this series on your To Read list.
Megan Erickson's magic appears again. What I love most about her books is the characters she presents to us- they're always fun to read about and have these crazy, fun personalities I wish I was friends with them. Brent and Ivy were no different! They took my heart and I never got it back since the very first page.
Megan Erickson’s magic appears again. What I love the most about her books is the characters she presents to us- they’re always fun to read about and have these crazy, fun personalities- Brent and Ivy were no different! They took my heart and I never got it back since the very first page.
It was all dirty talk and sweet moments, family and unforgettable friendships, unique characters and stories. Dirty Talk was just what I was expecting, AND SO MUCH MORE. It held my attention since the start and I couldn’t put it down. Brent and Ivy’s story was so enjoyable I wanted to keep reading until the finish line.
I’m so happy and grateful Erickson decided to write a spin-off series about the Payton brothers and their mechanic shop. The flow of the story was just perfect and it was so easy to get into the story. The way the characters’ personalities can be seen/read so clearly is unbelievable to me, but Erickson managed to achieve just that. I could tell which one was which even before seeing who was talking.
Megan Erickson writes sexy books that need a ‘WARNING’ label at the beginning. *Warning: Hot characters and sexy scenes inside.*
I love this series and I cannot wait for Alex’s book!!
<3 <3 <3 Brent and Ivy were an adorable couple whose insecurities and issues only made for a sweeter romance. Violet was the belle of the ball and even Jack managed to surprise me a little. I wholeheartedly recommend Megan Erickson's Mechanics In Love series to all readers who love laughter and spice with their romance.
Jeder hält den heißen und stets gut gelaunten Automechaniker Brent Payton für einen Aufreißer, der sowohl seine Familie, die Frauen und seinen Job liebt. Doch hinter dieser Fassade verbirgt sich ein fürsorglicher Mann mit einem großen Traum. Als er Ivy, die Schwester seiner Kollegin begegnet, werden die tief in ihm verborgenen Sehnsüchte wieder wach. Sie ist alles was er will. Doch zu groß ist Ivys Angst sich auf Brent einzulassen und damit Fehler die Fehler der Vergangenheit zu wiederholen...
„Dirty Talk – Ivy & Brent“ ist der zweite Band der „Mechanics of Love“-Reihe von Megan Erickson. Den ersten Teil habe ich bisher nicht gelesen, im Großen und Ganzen stört dies aber nicht.
Die vielversprechenden Klappentexte und die interessanten und schlichten Cover machten mich auf die „Mechanics of Love“-Reihe aufmerksam.
Der Schreibstil ist einfach gehalten und leicht zu lesen.
Das Kennenlernen in der Autowerkstatt der Familie Payton bildet einen interessanten Einstieg.
Brent versprüht sofort die Art des Lebemanns und des Charmeurs.
Obwohl er mich zunächst nur wenig begeisterte, wird er nach und nach zu einem sehr vielseitigen Charakter mit Wow-Effekt.
Doch Ivy, die durch die Vergangenheit geprägt ist, macht es ihm schwer, ihn an sich heranzulassen.
Zudem blieb sie abgesehen von ihrer Fürsorge um ihre Tochter und der Liebe zu ihrer Schwester eher blass. Sie ist lieb und nett und gemeinsam mit Brent auch absolut liebenswert, dennoch fehlte mir bei ihr die charakterliche Entwicklung.
Die gemeinsamen Szenen von Ivy und Brent ebenso mit Ivys Tochter jedoch sind absolut liebenswert und herzlich.
Zudem besteht zwischen Brent und Ivy ein prickelndes Verhältnis, das sich im weiteren Verlauf zu einer ernsthaften Beziehung entwickelt.
Aufgrund der zurückliegenden Ereignisse rund um Ivy und ihrer Schwester wird zum Ende hin zudem ein wenig Spannung aufgebaut. Genauso schnell, wie diese jedoch aufgekommen ist, verpufft sie auch schon wieder und ließ mich etwas unbefriedigt zurück.
„Dirty Talk: Ivy & Brent“ ist eine nette Liebesgeschichte, die nach und nach ihren Charme verbreitet und mit süßen Liebes- sowie Familienszenen punktet.
Nach und nach kommt die Geschichte um Ivy und Brent in Gang und verzaubert mit einer attraktiven Liebesgeschichte. Die zum Ende hin aufgebaute Spannung gab der Story einen aufregenden Kick, fand jedoch ein abruptes und unbefriedigendes Ende.
Ich vergebe 4 von 5 Sterne.
**I received an eARC of this book from the publisher via Edelweiss as a part of this book tour in exchange for an honest review.**
I really enjoyed reading Dirty Talk, it was a really nice book with a good plot and awsome characters. The romance was sizzling hot and there was never a dull moment, this book was throughly entertaining. I really wanted to read the first book in this series and when I got a chance to read an ARC of the 2nd book, I snatched the opportunity. After reading this book I'll definitely buy the 1st one in this series, I have no doubt that it will be entertaining like this one.
Summary-
Ivy with her daughter Violet and her sister Alex have moved for the 3rd time for a fresh start ina small city named Tory after Alex got severely mentally abused by her boyfriend. Before that Ivy got dumped by his boyfriend after she became pregnant and he refused to acknowledge the baby as his own. After these incidents, the two sisters have sworn off men, until Brent comes crashing into Ivy's life. He’s a mechanic, technically Alex's boss and from the moment they meet their chemistry is undeniable. But Ivy doesn't want to get involved in a serious relationship but she can't help herself from falling for him either when he shows her a totally different side of him.
Plot-
The plot is a bit clichéd although I am a sucker for this storyline, it's the whole good girl fall for the bad boy thing. But I honestly loved how everything was executed here. There was perfect amount of chemistry between the two characters and I loved that it was not rushed. The romance build up slowly between the characters, letting them build the trust upon each other before they finally gave into the temptation. I absolutely loved the romance between them. I also loved the family and friends aspect which played an important role in this book.
Characters-
I definitely liked all the characters in this book. Ivy was a strong woman who loved her family very much, she was caring and passionate. She was ready to do anything for her daughter and she always stood beside her sister. She tried her best to resist Brent but he has a way of crawling into your skin. Brent really did surprise me. He didn't date, he always went for casual but after meeting Ivy and her daughter, he wanted to be serious, he wanted to matter to her. And seriously, he transformed into a full-on gentleman and charmed Ivy. He was indeed a genuinely good guy, I liked how he understood her and cared for her.
I loved the other characters in this book as well. Alex was a possessive sister, she wanted to protect her family at all cost, although she did take a few rash decisions buy I'm glad everything finally worked out at the end. And I definitely loved Violet, she was a bundle of joy, she was really cute and absolutely like a princess with a tiara, literally. I liked the brothers of Brent, they were really nice and supportive.
Writing style-
I enjoyed the writing in this book, it was simple and smooth. I easily breezed through the book and completed it in one sitting. The pace was even throughout the book, it was neither too fast nor too slow. I loved how everything flowed out and how things were executed.
Overall-
Dirty Talk was a book I really enjoyed. Although the plot was clichéd, I loved how things were executed. The characters were great, they had their fair share of faults which made them realistic. The writing was smooth and the pace was even throughout the book. I was never bored for a second. This was the first book I read by this author and I'm really looking forward to read the other books by this author.
Recommend it?
Yes.
Prepare yourselves ladies your ovaries may just explode with Brent, the perfect balance of sweet and sexy all wrapped up in a Captain America package ;)
First impressions couldn't be more deceiving, stereotyping Brent as the quintessential player who doesn't take anything seriously. It is quickly apparent Brent tends to play the role that has been assigned to him, complete with middle child syndrome, he is in essence a self-fulfilling prophecy. However, there is so much more below the surface, still waters have nothing on Brent complete with a hero complex. Yet, he has never felt confident enough to break out of the box he has placed himself in.
Megan does a fantastic job of developing Brent's character and providing insight into relationship whether romantic, friendship or family based. It is via the relationships Brent forms that he is able to break free of the labels associated with and begin the process of becoming the person he truly wants to be. The pivotal role support systems have in development plays a major part of Dirty Talk. Having people to trust and offer help or just a shoulder is priceless as is the ability to open yourself to other people and allow them to be your support. A symbiotic relationship if you will ♥
I adored Ivy's inner strength, capacity to love and above all her loyalty to those she loves. Having suffered emotional trauma through previous relationships, Ivy embodies independence while re-learning trust in others. Issues of emotional abuse and their effect not only on the person it is directed at, but also the surrounding close relationships was eye-opening. Like a ripple effect, each action creates a reaction in all people close to the source/recipient of the offense. You know the saying 'sticks and stone can break my bones' well bones heal but words can cause wounds that cut so deep they continue to bleed at the slightest irritation. Megan makes the reader consider their own actions and reactions to those close to them.
I adore the way in which Megan weaves the previous characters into the story and adds progression. The close-knit Payton's are a force to be reckoned with, I think Jack should get his own story ;)
Dirty Talk may have the steam but it also has the heart.
I really enjoyed this book and I loved Brent. He's the fun, charming brother with a reputation for not taking much seriously and he's okay with that for the most part until Ivy comes along. Brent wants Ivy to take him seriously but she's got a lot on her plate and some serious baggage with men.
I liked Brent and Ivy's relationship but I adored Brent's relationship with Ivy's daughter and his wheelchair bound neighbor. This book was a little slower to get started for me then the first one was.
Megan Erickson is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors and this dirty talking hero reminded me of one of Tessa Bailey's male characters. This was a fun, enjoyable and engaging book and I look forward to the next one.
I loved Brent. I love guys who are ready for "the one" and tend get hurt because he feels she's not as serious as he is.
I love a hot guy who talks dirty! I think he was just perfect. Super surprised with this one. I read this one first and then decided to read the first in the series. Cal was no where as interesting as Brent.
Irgendwie hatte ich nicht so wirklich Lust mit dem Buch anzufangen, aber ich brauchte mal was leichtes für zwichendurch und der Klapptext hat sich spannend angehört.
Für Ivy und Alex steht eins fest, nie wieder Männer. Aber es kommt immer anders als man denkt.Als Ivy mit ihrer Schwester nach Tory zieht, steht für beide Frauen eines ganz klar fest.
Der lockere und flüssigen Schreibstils machte mir den Einstieg in die Geschichte leicht, auch die Charaktere haben mir wieder beider gut gefallen. Ein schönes spannendes Buch mit kleinen Schächen, über die man aber leichten Herzens hinweg lesen kann.
