Yeah, you actually are using him, Momo. Have you become the kind of girl who can't get through life without a guy to hang onto, whether you're actually dating him or not? It'd help if you had girl friends to hang out with and talk to. Just saying.

This was a single long series in Japan, but in its NA edition the first "series" ended here, and "Change of Heart" starts as of the next volume. I forget what happened with Toji after this. I'd more or less written him off at volume 2 on this reading, so maybe it didn't matter much to me the previous couple of times, either. I think ? Shrug...

This was a nice conclusion for the first half of the Peach Girl series. I was pleased with the way it was tied up very neatly: Toji was with Sae through blackmail and Kiley had a symbolic regrowth for Momo's new start. It was very sweet and shows what a great friend he is to her. I'm quite satisfied that she ultimately ends up with Kiley in the next series. She should have been with him from the start but at least it happens, right? I'll have to see if my local library carries this trainwreck of a series. It was a dramatic roller coaster with some bomb fashion, to say the least. The Peach Girl ended up with the right boy and it isn't the pits!

At least it's not all about vengeance anymore...

Actually, this was a rather good volume, more in the style of the first ones.

Trigger warnings for sexual assault and blackmail.

The breakup scenes between Momo and Toji are dramatic enough to tug at the heart strings. I hate that Sae was able to split them up, but now Momo is with Kiley, so I'm happy.

Again, caution when reading this manga due to the tackless use of a sexual assault trope and hinting at rape. If you don't like heavy dramas, this series is not for you.

Myslím kvůli tomu oblečení a pózám.

This is the final volume of the first Peach Girl series, it picks up with the spin-off of Change of Heart. The weird stuff is finally passed as well and it's back to our normal Peachy drama! Momo is devastated when Toji kisses Sae and declares he's officially over Momo. She just won't take no for an answer though and misses a week of school and then starts to plant herself outside his door everyday in the snow to try and get him to just talk to her already. However, Toji ignores her, slamming the door in her face and throwing pictures of their time together at her. Through all this heartbreak is Kiley, vigilantly picking up the pieces of Momo's shattered heart and helping her become whole again. However, she tells him she can't be with him as she still holds feelings for Toji...despite her warming up to Kiley's affection. The two share their first real kiss and Momo doesn't recoil from it. After building up the school's garden and a disastrous school camping trip, Momo realizes Kiley is being sincere and she thinks she might be able to fall for him. The volume ends with them embracing and kissing over a lovely flower metaphor.
I'm still not feeling Team Kiley, but Toji is being a total tool so I'm not exactly Team Toji either. I did empathize with Momo in this volume since it was all about her heartbreak and loss of her first love. Was she a tad overdramatic? Of course, this is Peach Girl. But we've all been there, and I appreciated the time Ueda took to flesh out Momo's feelings. On to Change of Heart!

*3.5*

I feel so terrible for Toji, and Momo. I really understand where he's coming from, trying to protect her future (although I do feel like he could've explained that to her, and figured something out together), and Momo's heart must be in shambles after everything. Kairi really is the best, and while I wish Momo would've waited until her feelings for Toji to dissipated to go out with him, it's understandable. Honestly someone just needs to take down Sae once and for all, get her expelled or something. She honestly belongs in jail after all the crap she's pulled.

Oh the drama! I absolutely love how overly dramatic early 2000s shoujo manga can be. However, I probably wouldn’t recommend this series to people new to reading manga because it can be pretty problematic. I would say this should have been the last volume and future volumes feel very unnecessary. Also, Sae is the worst anime villain ever and I’m sad the author never gave her a proper redemption arc.

I'm so tired of this back and forth. I really hope that this means Kiley and Momo are end game! Or, at least, that Momo doesn't go back to Toji. He's sweet, but the lack of communication and trust should be a total deal breaker.

You know it's bad when KILEY starts looking like the mature one of the bunch!

You would think Toji would grow a pair, defy Sae, and actually do what he wants to do but nope, he doesn’t. Guess I’m a big member of Team Kiley now!

This was a good first arc of the manga. I’m looking forward to Change of Heart!

Ah damn. Another series from ten years ago.

Unlike many romance manga Peach Girl deals with colorism. The main MC Momo deals with people stereotyping her as a party girl, as an easy fck, as an aggressive person and it's all because of her tanned skin. The stereotypes are so bad that she can't walk down the street without a random old man offering money for sex and then proceeding to drag her towards a hotel when she refuses. It also sucks for Momo because she believes she needs to lighten her skin in order for her crush to like her. Because of this Momo quits the swimteam and repeatedly wears sunscreen so she can get 'lighter'.🙄 Anyway worry not this series is also about her learning to accept her tanned skin. Sorta. I mean the author kind of just stops making tanned skin a problem and instead focuses on other things.

Believe it or not, despite the low rating, I did enjoy this series. It was so entertaining. Unfortunately my list of dislikes out weighs the likes.

Dislikes

1. Momo trying to change her skin color in order for a guy (Toji) to like her.
2. Toji and Momo finally getting together only for Toji to screw it up by kissing another girl ( Sae) as practice for when he actually kisses Momo.
3. Momo forgiving him and still wanting to be with him.
4. Toji getting mad because Momo kissed another guy ( Kylie) before they started going out.
5. Toji being easily manipulated by Sae and believing anything she tells him against Momo. Despite that he knows Momo way longer than Sae and Momo is his girlfriend. (Seriously he JUST met sae.)
5. Toji letting Sae be all over him. So many times!
6. There is no communication. There's only yelling and running away.
7. Kylie dating Momo even though he loves someone else and especially because he knows all the pain Momo has been through. I swear there was literally nothing wrong with Kylie until that happened. He was the perfect cinnamon roll!
8. Momo suffering so much. I love this girl to death and she didn't deserve all these betrayals. 😭😭 I literally cried when Kylie made her feel inferior and second best to the other girl.
9. Momo dating Toji a second time. Lol. I can't believe that happened. Like she seriously can't be single.
10. Big Spoiler. Yes Momo stays with Kylie at the end but I hate how Momo didn't really tell Kylie how much she was suffering. She didn't demand an explanation!!!!
11. Everyone forgives Sae. Why?
12. Kylies brother sucks. He could drop dead.
13. The rape thing.

Likes.
1. Toji and Momos L sign thing. This is the only thing I liked about their relationship. Seriously.
2. Kylie always supporting Momo when she was suffering because of Toji. He was always trying to fix things up for her. He was always making her laugh so she could forget her pain. He always watched out for her! Idk why the author betrayed me like this though😭
3. Kylie blushing and being cute. 😭😭

I can't help it I still like Kylie! Shame on me. I wish he suffered more though. He's so mean. If only Momo hadn't returned to Toji right after Kylie things would be less complicated. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Story: The perfect thing about this series is that it is a potential real life situation. There is bullying from the other people at school and misunderstandings set into a high school setting. This series is absolutely perfect for someone to read when they are that age and to realize that many people can make mistakes or take something the wrong way, especially in regards to relationships. There is a quite potent love triangle between Momo, a girl that gets bullied by others, Kairi (Kiley), a flirt of a guy, and Toji, a guy that is easily blindsided. It does not help anything that there is the slightly evil character of Sae that is always trying to get in Momo's way.

Drawing Style: One of my favorite things about the art style of Miwa UEDA is that she changes up the characters. Especially Momo, she always wears different clothing and has a different style of hair that is rarely seen in anime or manga.

Characters: The characters are highly in depth and developed throughout the series. They are all multi-dimensional with underlying reasons for how they come across and serious back stories that add to the series.

Overall: This is one of my favorite series by far, exceeding all of my previous expectations and blowing me away with the quality of production.

Note: This review was completed after reading volumes 1-18.

Genuinely the worst manga I've ever read I'm sorry, I read it all the way to the end thinking I was missing something but I just finished it disappointed and angry. I was happy to see colorism addressed properly in an older series, it was well written with good audience positioning. Sadly that aspect was pretty brief.

Wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless you are an emotional masochist, or like to watch trainwreck situations. This is my first and last time hate-reading a series to this extent cause all I recieved was emotional anguish.

Also spoilers for the 10 year time-skip (Peach Girl Next):
It made me so mad how their relationship STILL wasn't stable after all that time I read some of it and knew I couldn't finish it and just went to the reviews for a summary. My jaw was on the floor reading what happened. The school nurse still being involved somehow??? Women please choose appropriate, loving, emotionally intelligent partners I beg.
