Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night with the unsettling feeling that someone was watching you? Or walked down an empty street convinced you were being followed, only to turn around and find no one there? That lingering unease is exactly what Whispers, That Turn Into Screams by Ankit Shetty captures.
This collection of short stories blends elements of horror, obsession, and psychological thriller, but it goes far beyond surface-level scares. At its core, the book explores the darker corners of the human mind, where fear is often rooted in guilt, grief, trauma, and suppressed emotions.
From a mother obsessively devoted to her child, to a family therapy session that slowly unravels buried truths; from eerie messages from beyond to a mysterious file at a bank. Each story dives into fractured beliefs, emotional scars, and the unsettling reality of what we try to hide from ourselves.
What stood out most to me was how unpredictable each story is. Just when you think you understand what’s happening, the narrative shifts, leaving you surprised and slightly disturbed in the best way possible.
The writing is simple yet effective, and the fast pacing, combined with sharp twists, makes the book highly engaging and difficult to put down.
