Turns out the scariest thing about Halloween isn't the haunted house—it's risking my heart
After my abduction, I swore nobody would manipulate me again. Complete honesty? Non-negotiable. So when I'm assigned to guide the awkward Volscian warrior Khatak through our Halloween festivities, I'm ready to keep my walls firmly up.
Instead, he's adorably terrible at everything—massacring pumpkins, screaming in haunted houses, and looking at me like I'm the only person in the galaxy. His inability to hide his feelings is dangerously attractive, and for the first time since my abduction, I feel safe enough to let my guard down.
The problem? Everyone at this hotel has secrets. Can anyone really be this genuine, or am I walking straight into my worst nightmare—falling for someone with a hidden agenda?
"Oh No, I Carved A Pumpkin And Kissed an Alien Diplomat" is a humorous, heartwarming sci-fi romance set in the "At The Alien Hotel" series. Expect Halloween hijinks, adorable alien confusion, and a possessive mate who proves vulnerability is the ultimate strength. Get ready for carved pumpkins, haunted houses, and a love worth the risk.
Another novella in the Alien Hotel series by Kate Sinner, this is super cute and short (about 115 pages). Human Selene is trying her best to work through the aftermath of her abduction and subsequent rescue while enjoying her work as an assistant at the hotel when she encounters the delightfully awkward but endearing Khatak, who’s arrived on a diplomatic mission to meet with her boss.
While Selene spends time with Khatak over Halloween-centric activities, she becomes more attracted to the tall red alien, and he in turn is convinced Selene is his mate. A night of passion solidifies their nascent bond, but a misunderstanding on Selene’s part threatens their budding relationship. Can they work out their differences and move toward a HEA?
I received an advance copy from the author and booksprout, and I’m sharing my honest review.
A pumpkin, a kiss, an alien diplomat who means it all.
Selene has rules. After surviving an alien abduction, she doesn’t let anyone in unless they earn it. Honesty isn’t optional. So when she’s assigned to guide a painfully awkward Volscian warrior through Halloween madness, she’s sure she’ll keep her walls up. But Khatak looks at her like she’s the only person in the galaxy, and that’s harder to ignore than she expects.
Khatak has one job: secure an alliance and prove he’s not a disappointment. But Selene changes the equation. She doesn’t care about titles or status, just the truth behind his eyes. She catches every stumble, every flinch, and she never looks away. When she gives him a chance, even a small one, it means more than she’ll ever know.
But honesty cuts both ways. One choice, one secret, and everything starts to crack. Selene’s learned to walk away before she gets hurt. Khatak’s convinced he should let her go. But what they’ve built doesn’t disappear just because it gets hard.
Khatak starts out trying to prove himself to others, but ends up learning how to be honest with himself. Selene, always guarded, starts to believe that being seen doesn’t have to mean being hurt. Together, they grow from cautious allies to something rare: two people who choose each other without conditions.
A steamy, alien-human, forced proximity, grumpy sunshine, Halloween sci-fi romance filled with awkward sweetness, slow burn tension, and emotional depth. Exploring vulnerability, trust, self-worth, trauma, healing, identity, cultural connection, and chosen love. It's about choosing honesty over fear, love over certainty, and building something real in the ruins of what came before.
The Elevator Pitch: A shy alien warrior and a guarded human are forced into close quarters during a wild holiday weekend on a galactic resort. Between carved pumpkins, haunted houses, and stolen kisses, sparks fly where neither expected them. With building attraction and tender chaos, their connection becomes a risky, beautiful dive into trust, healing, and love worth choosing.
‘Oh No! I Carved a Pumpkin & Kissed an Alien Diplomat’ is so good in that wrapped in your favorite warm cozy blanket, sipping your favorite hot beverage, while snuggled down in your favorite chair, kinda way. It’s well written, unapologetically witty, seriously touching; has well-fleshed characters, banter that makes you feel at home, hurt feelings, deliciously decadent, toe-curling spice, and soul-deep, tummy-tingling love. Excellent read.
The Alien Hotel strikes again with another fun and engaging story with Oh No I Carved a Pumpkin and Kissed a Diplomat. The story takes place during Halloween with abductee MFC Selene getting tasked with showing around visiting Volscian Khatak. Selene finds him endearing and genuine which becomes an issue for her letting her guard down emotionally while he is captivated by her enthusiasm. I enjoyed this nicely written fourth book in the series and it’s Sci-Fi romance, personal vulnerability, found family, mate bonding, passion, spice, and characters whom I adore.

Celebrating a blend of halloween events, Selene meets an extremely shy Volscian warrior, Khatak, and while she (understandably) has a lot of trust issues, their outings were so frkn adorable 💞
While Oh No, I Carved A Pumpkin And Kissed An Alien Diplomat was just over 100 pages, the little tidbits of the universe outside of the hotel was so cool 🤩
Prejudice abounds, and someone needs to rethink hers quickly!
Khatak is the Volscian diplomat who has just arrived at the Alien Hotel, and already he's in trouble. His overstuffed suitcase just flew open, showering the lobby with all of his stuff, including underwear!
The lobby is filled with weird and strange displays. From the ceiling hang white shapes with what appear to have holes cut into them where you'd expect eyes to be. There are orange gourds of some sort with grotesque facial carvings on them.
And is that an actual human female approaching him? He was never important enough to even glimpse one before. He doesn't even believe his esteemed older brother has had this privilege!
He comes from a warrior species, and that is his problem. He's not a warrior, and he's ashamed of that fact, but there's nothing he can do to change himself into one.
Since he won't be missed, he's been chosen to seek an alliance with Prince Rist and his family. Failure won't change his reputation with the family, while success would stun them.
Selena normally doesn't come down to any of the planets. She stays aboard their spaceship analyzing data transmitted from the planets. But she's always loved Halloween, and as the event planner, she can control everything.
It hasn't been all that long since she was abducted from Earth by a marauding band of evil aliens. She doesn't remember the abduction, but she remembers being treated as livestock. The captives were rescued and are now under the protection of Prince Rist. In fact, he has mated with one of them.
Having been kidnapped by aliens, she has trouble interacting with most aliens. While she understands that most of them had nothing to do with her kidnapping and her unability to ever return to Earth, she normally just can't interact with them. She accepts and trusts some of them, but with most of them, she can't read the true meaning of what they want from her—too much is kept hidden. This is despite many of her friends mating with various species of aliens. But there's something about Khatak that draws her interest.
In fact, she's been assigned to be his guide. Her boss told her to relax and enjoy herself by carving a pumpkin. So she will, and since Khatak has expressed an interest, she'll be his teacher. Meanwhile, Khatak can't understand why she's drawn to him. Among his people, he is a nothing. So why would this human, a species his father or esteemed older brother had never seen, be interested in him?
He even skips the meeting he was to have with Prince Rist to spend more time with her. It's not like he is in favor of the alliance his father and brother seek. But when she learns of his true reason for being at the hotel, she goes ballistic! "I knew you couldn't trust an alien!"
Her friends, humans and aliens, aren't about that statement stand!

I literally squealed with excitement when I discovered the next book in this series had been released, as I've totally fallen in love and been charmed with it. Now I discovered it purely by accident way back when the theme of the month was Aliens, and I'm not ashamed to admit I was totally hooked by the titles, but stayed for the story. I couldn't wait to dive back in and catch up with the characters at the hotel that I've already met, while rooting for a new couple's romance to unfurl. Ms Sinner continues to delight with this series, balancing humour, facing fears, spice and a cuteness overload that made my heart swoon. It's a short, fun read and I'm eagerly awaiting the next one already...
I totally lost my heart to Khatak within the first couple of pages, unbelievably clumsy, he wears his heart on his sleeve and lives in the shadow of his father and brother. On an important diplomatic mission to secure an alliance, and to prove he's not a complete disappointment to his family he literally explodes onto the page (or rather his suitcase does). He's not a warrior, a fact that others never seem to forget and make him feel lesser than he should be, while also leaving him doubting everything he does. That is until he meets Selene, a human who works at the hotel. Showing him, his vulnerability is not something to be ashamed of instead she manages to draw him out of himself. Yes I was equal parts wanting to hug him and melting at his feet in a puddle of goo at his adorableness...
My heart also went out to Selene as after being abducted (then rescued) she has her own fears, fear of others motivations, of being manipulated or worse having her choices taken away once again, especially by aliens. It's why she throws herself into her job as event co-ordinator, never having fun always making sure everything works like clockwork. But when she meets Khatak, she lets her guard down as she is pulled in by his sweet but clumsy nature (the pumpkin carving scene alone was pure magic). Yes I couldn't help but like this sweet, kindhearted girl who finally takes a chance to find love.....
This was an unbelievably sweet entry to the series and now one of my favourites, and I'm looking forward to seeing which lovable alien gets his story next, along with another crazy title. Totally recommend 😁
Selene has been through hell. After surviving an abduction, she’s built her world around control and honesty. No surprises. No hidden agendas. And definitely no messy emotions. But when she’s assigned to help Khatak, an alien diplomat with the social grace of a baby giraffe, she finds herself completely disarmed.
Khatak is endearingly awkward—earnest, emotional, and adorably terrible at Halloween. Yet beneath his clumsy charm is a heart so genuine it cracks Selene’s walls wide open. For the first time in forever, she feels seen… and safe. But when secrets and misunderstandings threaten their fragile connection, Selene has to decide if trusting someone new is worth the risk of being hurt again.
This isn’t just a quirky alien romance—it’s a deeply human story wrapped in starlight and humor. Kate Skinner perfectly balances heartfelt vulnerability with hilarious fish-out-of-water moments, creating a love story that feels both fantastical and real.
Selene’s cautious heart and Khatak’s pure sincerity remind us that sometimes the scariest part of love isn’t what we can’t control—it’s what happens when someone finally sees us for who we really are.
If you’ve ever struggled to let your guard down, if you’ve ever wanted love to feel safe and exciting, this book will melt you from the inside out.
Oh No, I Carved a Pumpkin and Kissed an Alien Diplomat is sweet, steamy, and laugh-out-loud charming—a cosmic Halloween romance with real human heart.

After being abducted by aliens, Selene has been slowly trying to regain her sense of stability through careful planning and control. Yet, she still struggles with trust, despite the efforts of everyone at the Alien Hotel. When Ambassador Khatak arrives, Selene finds his easy to read personality and honest efforts refreshing. Can the two create something real, or will Khatak prove to be using Selene?
Selene is an extremely realistic character. In response to the trauma she's experienced, she's decided that all aliens must have ulterior motives. She's hypervigilant, and finds security in planning as much as she can. Her distrust keeps her from connecting with others. On the other hand, Khatak struggles with low self esteem and feelings of inadequacy. He's hoping to gain his family's respect by creating an alliance with Prince Rist. But when it becomes clear that Selene likes Khatak for himself, he has to decide which is more important: his mission, or Selene.
Oh No, I Carved a Pumpkin and Kissed An Alien Diplomat is a cute novella with plenty of fun halloween activities. My only complaint is I wish it was a little bit longer with a little more exploration of the improvements to both characters after they left the hotel. A fun, quick read.

Having been abducted by aliens, Selene has to try to rebuild her trust and confidence when dealing with other aliens she meets. She tends to believe all of them have their own private motives driving their behavior, so it isn't easy to connect with any of them. In that respect, meeting shy Ambassador Khatak at the Alien Hotel where she works is a refreshing change for her. He projects friendliness and honesty, and his actions seem to closely reflect his personality. When she offers to escort him through the Halloween activities so he can become more familiar with them, will the two become attracted to each other? Could she possibly be his mate? Or will their past experiences (and his awkwardness) hold them back from being comfortable enough to pursue something more? He makes her feel safe, but is she willing to trust him and let down her guard? Could falling in love be worth the risk? Or will she back away from that kind of commitment with an alien after what she had gone through?
Oh No, I Carved A Pumpkin And Kissed An Alien Diplomat is an adorable addition to the At The Alien Hotel Series. I am always pleasantly entertained at these light hearted and fun books and this one has a wonderful Halloween theme but is perfect for any time of the year!
Oh No, I Carved A Pumpkin And Kissed An Alien Diplomat can absolutely be read as a standalone but if you want to be sucked into the Alien Hotel like I was, read this series in order. They are well written, easy to read stories that have a lot of humor and plenty of spice. I love the quirky characters and the unique world Kate Sinner has written. I cannot wait for another book in this series.
Oh No, I Got Myself Abducted And Kissed An Alien Pirate is a prequel that should not be missed. Oh No, I Crashed A Spaceship And Kissed An Assassin is book 1 Oh No, I Stole An Alien Furball And Kissed A Beastmaster is book 2 Oh No, I Shot A Spaceship And Kissed An Alien Cyberchef is book 3
Selene was kidnapped by aliens then rescued. She's now works at a hotel which is safety for her and other kidnapped aliens. She helps with the activities lined up for the alien guests. Khatak is at the hotel to firm an alliance with the former Prince he believes himself to be lesser. He does not come close to the status of his father and older brother. This mission is to go towards helping him establish his worth. But from the moment he sets for at the hotel everything goes wrong. Until he meets Selene. They enjoy time together doing Halloween activities. She feels comfortable with him. He is not sure about his he feels about her because he isn't worthy, in his eyes, to draw a female. Now the two must figure out what they have and if it's worth fighting for. Another fascinating and beautiful story in this series!!.

This is a hilariously funny, wonderfully steamy addition to the At The Alien Hotel series. It's the perfect Halloween-themed sci-fi romance that combines spooky season hijinks with a sweet and seriously protective alien hero!
Khatak is a sweet, cinnamon roll MMC. He's a genuinely wholesome, vulnerable, and wants to be the best male he can be for Selene. Selene is guarded and is still struggling to deal with her trauma of being abducted, and she is cautious about opening herself up and trusting someone new.
The story is light, funny, entertaining, and heartwarming. I enjoyed the Halloween hijinks—the pumpkin carving, haunted house, were so much fun. Khatak is adorable. He is just what Selene needs!.

This is a page-turner, with humour, romance, adventure and fabulous world building. I love every one of the secondary characters and their roles in the Alien Hotel. Our FMC Selene works there, where she has a meet-cute with the Volscian Khatak shortly after he arrives. Right away, she is attracted by his honesty and vulnerability. Khatak falls for her appearance, her friendliness and her willingness to accept him as he is. He is used to having to prove himself and to pretending to be something he is not, which is the reason he is on a mission at the hotel. But he is ready to give it all up for Selene. The problem is that he has not told her why he is there, and she hasn't asked. I have loved every story taking place in the Alien Hotel. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This novella is dual POV, well written and edited, and a sweet and steamy, sci fi romance between Khatak, the male alien lead with serious self esteem issues and clumsiness, and Selene, the female human lead who struggled with PTSD after being abducted from Earth (though she had since been freed). I enjoyed Khatak’s genuineness and his willingness to preference what was best for Selene. I enjoyed Selene’s dawning awareness that she had been carrying prejudices which were influencing her perspective of Khatak. I enjoyed the awkwardness that transformed into a relationship and I enjoyed the building intimacy between the characters.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
This was another fun and entertaining addition to the series and I love the Halloween theme it's based around. This series is really engaging with characters you can relate to and I'd recommend reading it in order to get the max enjoyment out of it. Selene is our gal recovering from being kidnapped. She has trust issues, isn't really open to others and really wants total control to feel safe. Khatak was a true sweetheart but is insecure. When these two meet, things really take off. Expect to get caught up in this sweet and steamy read that has plenty of humour, Halloween hijinks and heart. I enjoyed seeing Selene start to heal from her trauma and Khatak bloom as her perfect mate. So good and I can't wait for the next book ;D
If I told you there was someone who could make a story that starts with alien abductions fun, sexy and heartwarming would you believe me? You should! Kate Sinner has done it over and over in this series!
Khatak is so earnestly humble and self deprecating…not really believing that Selene could possibly love him for just him…he’s not a Warrior…not a typical Alpha Male… but he is honest, kind, transparent…And puts Selene first Selene is tasked with overcoming her fears…well earned fears…from being abducted by aliens…. Are there any trustworthy aliens??? This book was really fun, sweet, and sexy with an awesome ending😍😍😍👏👏👏🤩🤩🤩.

Selene likes organizing events at the Alien Hotel. She can control everything and feels safe. Maybe that’s why she likes the red-skinned alien with the tiny black horns. Khatak may be a Volscian warrior, but he makes her feel safe; seen for herself, not what he can get out of her. He isn’t like other aliens.
Khatak is at the hotel on a mission. His family sent him, their least valuable member, to make an alliance. The beautiful human should be a means to an end, but being around her scrambles his thoughts. If he tells her the truth, she will hate him.
I love alien romances! There is humor and erotic love in this one, leading to an HEA. I received a free copy, but my review is honest and voluntary.
“I never want to leave you, to be apart from you,” he admits. “I’d do anything for you, Selene. I’d give anything to make you happy. Even if it meant being apart from you.”
A short but heartwarming story in At the Alien.hotel series, while each is a short story about a couple, has a rich and imaginative overarching plot and that shows plenty in this new installment of the series. A mmc dealing with his insecurities, his feeling of unworthy. A fmc with trust issues. A funny recreation of the Halloween at the hotel involving (and puzzling) mates and guests. All wrapped around masterfully by Kate Sinner.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A Cozy, Seasonal Romance Full of Autumn Charm This romance novella is the perfect little seasonal read — full of cozy fall vibes, pumpkin carving, and that special warmth you only get from an autumn love story. It’s a quick read, but that doesn’t take away from how enjoyable and well-crafted it is.
The characters are genuinely likeable, and the plot feels refreshingly unique, which made it really fun to read. Sometimes a short, cozy story is exactly what you need — and this one delivers all the fall feels and a sweet romance to go with it.
Highly recommend for anyone looking for a charming autumn-themed love story to enjoy with a mug of tea (or pumpkin spice latte)!.

This is the fourth trip to the Alien Hotel, and it just as entertaining and as much fun as the other in the series. It’s Halloween at the hotel and Selene is busy immersing the alien guests in the Earth traditions of the holiday. Her newest guest and sort of charge is Khatak, a Volscian diplomat. Khatak is a bit clumsy and makes a mess in the lobby when he arrives. Selene thinks he’s adorable. They are drawn to each other, but both have serious problems; Selene’s from the abduction, and Khatak’s self esteem (family issues). There is a little misunderstanding, some steamy passion, loveable characters, supportive friends, and a rescue from a boarding ramp. An engaging and enjoyable story. I received an ARC of this book via BookSprout and voluntarily reviewed it.
Shy, clumsy and somewhat insecure Khatak travels to the Alien Hotel to discuss an alliance with Prince Rist. When he meets Selene he wants to spend time with her at all kind of Halloween activities. Selene is charmed by Khatak, clumsy, but open and honest with his reactions. Both are about to learn a lot more about themselves! I really liked the story, both main characters are great, charming and lovable. I would have liked the story a bit longer because it is original, well written and humorous. I am looking forward to more books in this series.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Khatak and Selene’s story is a great addition to the Alien Hotel series. It takes place at what would normally be Halloween for the humans of the hotel. It’s hilarious to see how the aliens deal with Halloween traditions , such as bobbing for apples and pumpkin carving ! Or at least their versions of the fruits and vegetables. It’s a sweet read that includes found family, learning to accept yourself as you are and ultimately living, instead of just surviving after a major loss of self determination. 4✨’s.

Just when you think you can’t love a series more…. Selene, Rist’s personal assistant, has the hotel all ready for Halloween events when she meets Khatak a Volscian Diplomat. Unbeknownst to her, he is on a mission from his family who want him to meet with Prince Rist. Both have concerns about being in control of-Selene because she had none when abducted, and Khatak, who has only known control in his warrior planet. Both learn valuable lessons and expect sweetness, heat, and joy in their journey. The second half of this story is so beautiful and uplifting!!.

Enjoyed this story that's about the warm, clumsy, insecure Ambassador Khatak a Volscian who goes to the Alien Hotel to make an alliance with Prince Rist hoping to become appreciated by his family and our Selene our human who was abducted and scarred by her experiences. In the lobby of the Alien Hotel that's decorated with ghosts and carved pumpkins, Khatak luggage opens and spills his clothes everywhere. Selene comes to help him, and signs him in. She invites him to join the festivities celebrating Halloween. What occurs as she shows him is an engaging story. I liked our characters, and their romance story was engaging to read in this copy I'd received and volunteer to review.
“Oh No, I Carved a Pumpkin and Kissed an Alien Diplomat” by Kate Sinner
-A cozy, steamy, and heartwarming interstellar romance that proves even aliens can fall under Halloween’s spell. I received a free copy and am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts.
A Halloween at the Alien Hotel brings shy Selene and awkward diplomat Khatak together in the sweetest chaos. Between pumpkin carving, cultural confusion, and irresistible chemistry, love sneaks in when least expected.
Selene’s healing and Khatak’s insecurities make their connection tender, funny, and deeply human. An enjoyable read.
'I don’t deserve this. The familiar voice whispers in my head. I should put a stop to this before it gets out of hand. But for once— just this once— I let myself ignore it. Because Selene is smiling at me, and nothing else in the galaxy matters.'
I really enjoyed this book. Good world building and wonderful characters. I loved both Khatak and Selene. I love Halloween, so seeing Khatak take on the holiday was fun. I was sad for his low self esteem and confidence, but understandable given his family history. I thought he and Selene were really cute together. Not a smooth road to their happy ending, but I loved the journey. 4 stars
Back at the Alien hotel for Halloween ….. it was interesting seeing Selene and Khatak meet during this holiday. I always wondered what an outsider to Halloween practices and customs would think of how “we” celebrate this day. Hearing about vulnerabilities tied to the past as well as family expectations made the genuine connections established easy to empathize with. Loved the idea of overcoming fear to “grow” as well.

Kate Sinner's Oh no I Carved a Pumpkin and Kissed an Alien Diplomat is book 4 in At the Alien Hotel. Event planner Selene usually avoids aliens as she survived Alien abduction and now works with other survivors at the Alien Hotel, but diplomat Khatak is not the usual Alien. He's a bit nerdy and shy and clumsy and very relatable. He's there trying to get the Prince to ally with his family but blows off the meeting to be with Selene. This is such a sweet story of finding love.
