Talk about love and healing with 2 people standing in the dark,
holding each other’s internal demons by the throat so they can finally breathe.
Camila is on the run so there’s some suspense. She’s a stripper working hard for the life she knows she deserves.
Then there’s Xander, one heck of an obsessive MMC with a past of his own, working down to the bone to tame his internal demons.
And there’s plenty of spice to balance it out. All in all a good read.

ARC Review: Views are my own, honest, review

Chains of Obsession by Evie Wynters is book 1 in the Chained series and I am already hyped for its future. It is spicy, funny and dark. It looks at the trauma we carry and the lies we tell ourselves to survive. The first stand out thing for this story is the humour, maybe the writer just has my kind of humour but I've chuckled more reading this book then I have in a while. The next thing I have to mention is the description of dance routines (no spoilers!) - I was able to clearly visualise what was happening and I hope Evie considers making a Spotify playlist to accompany this book because the music choices are brilliant. They play a key part of the story and it was so refreshing to live in those moments with the characters rather than it being skipped over or described ex post facto.

There are several viewpoints of trauma in this story in regards to ways to deal with it (or not), whether we have actually recovered, triggers and what healing looks like. Chains of Obsession is a fun book - it's entertaining, raunchy but don't mistake it for a speed read, or quick flick. I'd recommend sitting with this book, somewhere comforting and take the journey.

There were times when I was yelling at the characters to make different choices but this was all part of the emotional rollercoaster that has been crafted. Expect to laugh, cry, cringe and gasp sometimes in quick succession. Congrats Evie Wynters!

Xander, you hot, sweet walking redflag! I was swooning so hard for him that I can’t think straight. Every time he was sad or hurting, I cryed, out loud and a lot. I fell so in love with him! New book boyfriend found! His mother, oh how I wanna send her to the space… What an absolute b**ch!
Camila, I totally get why she is the way she is and that she had an awfull life. But everytime she made Xander sad, I yelled her. Still I liked her most of the times, so I’m so happy for her when she learns that she isn’t damaged!
Her ex, Luke, yeah he is a piece of sh*t and I would like to hurt him! A lot and a long time!
This book is about healing. First it broke me a little and then it healed me. So a healing book for everyone! Still check the tw list.
Loved this book and I love Evie, she writes well and her imagination is on point! Everything in this book is amazing and so good! Oh and, spice is soooo good! *drooling*

5⭐️ A LOVE STORY THAT HEALS. PHENOMENAL. COMPLETELY STUNNING.

Everything about this was utter perfection. One of my favourite reads of the year. One of my 10 before it ends.

2 wounded souls, 2 hearts carrying more scars than they admit. He loves her in the only way he knows how. She wanted to be seen & cherished the way she deserves.

It only took 1 night, 1 dance & 1 moment for it all to unravel.

The love between Xander & Camila is intense yet soft. Desperate but honest. Wild & freeing. I fell in love with their love. I cried for their love 🥺

It’s written in a way that reaches straight into your heart & pulls every emotion to the surface. You feel every beat of their story, every layer of their love.

What I love most about this is how they see & love the parts of each other that were taught to them as damaged & unlovable. They love each other the way they needed to be loved.

I felt parts of myself healing with them. This story is packed with emotion, tension, spice & purpose. If it teaches you anything, it’s that everyone deserves to heal.

This book had me the moment I saw Stripper x Criminal. I fully judged the cover when I signed up for this ARC…no regrets, because wow, it hooked me instantly.

It’s the perfect blend of laugh-out-loud moments, tension, passion, and drama.

From start to finish, it pulls you in and refuses to let go. I loved every second of it!

Really enjoyed this book!! I am absolutely loving my dark romance at the moment. I haven't read a book yet that has depicted past trauma from characters so well until this book. The backstory and the way the present story comes together is beautifully written. I loved the memories flitting back to childhood. The FMC and MMC are absolutely perfect characters!! This was my first time reading from this author, and unfortunately it didn’t work for me. I ended up giving it 2/5 stars.

The repetitiveness throughout the book really pulled me out of the story, and the constant miscommunication didn’t help. The pacing felt uneven, and many scenes were over-described to the point that it slowed everything down even more. Because of that, I struggled to stay engaged.
Honestly, the only thing I genuinely enjoyed was Sid the cat, who completely stole the spotlight every time he appeared.

Not quite the read for me, but I’m glad I tried it.

I really enjoyed this read and was a great break from my fantasy arc reading.
We meet out MMC Xander he is a man who has a history of obsessive behaviour. he becomes obsessed with our FMC Camilla at first glance, he is hooked and will do pretty much anything to get her. Having said that Camilla also falls for him at first glance whilst dancing, yes she's a stripper, and he's the owner of the club, and part of the underworld. Both our FMC and MMC have been through some trauma, she also has a jerk of an ex that won’t leave her alone. Camila is trying not to give him the time of day she just wants to concentrate on doing her job, getting the money so she can leave and protect herself from her crazy ex, but there is an electric current that pulls them together. Camilla is strong she lets him know she doesn't want to be controlled, she trying to put a controlling traumatic previous relationship behind her she is determined not to fall for someone like that again. Xander is unhinged when it comes to Camila so much so he worries his friend/business partner Jac with his behaviour.. Subsquently he is a bit wary of Camila. Camila’s ex Luke, the bad man she ran from is hot on her tail and harassing her, will he cause trouble for both her and Xander? We have other side characters cropping up throughout the story some good some bad, including Nova who is a badass female, but who's side is she on? Xander and Jac’s assistant, Penelope. is trying to get her claws into Xander and has been for sometime, but he's having none of it, who's side will she take? Camilla soon puts her in her place when she realises she has feelings for Xander one of the best lines from the book was definitely when camilla said “Chop chop bitch”! We had some spice in here ad it properly spices, so please check your trigger warnings as I can not confirm nor deny that there may be some gun action in this book. The last third of the book is full of action and plot twists and turns that I couldn't stop reading. At times I wanted to shout at the page due to lack of communication between the MCs but this is what made the book so much fun to read. Xander and Camila were destined to be together, they healed each other created new memories and life for themselves, it was beautiful. This was a great read.

Who doesn’t love a man who becomes obsessed upon first glance? Xander lays his eyes on Camila one time and is hooked. I would definitely say it goes both ways. She was distracted by while dancing. Did I mention she was a stripper? And he owns the club! Our girl has been through some trauma, she also has a jerk of an ex that won’t leave her alone. Xander also has some issues. This man is on a new level of obsession. Light spoiler: He damages her car and buys her a new one. I’m mean crazy, but I like it. Camila is trying not to give him the time of day but there is an electric current that pulls them together. Our girl has some spunk. She lets him know you will not control me but he’s said for now. Xander is unhinged when it comes to Camila. This unhingedness has his friend/brother/business partner Jac worried for him. So he is a bit wary of Camila. When it comes to Camila people better keep their hands and eyes to themselves because they die or be blinded. Now we talked about Camila’s ex Luke, bad man she ran. He may be catching up and causing problems for Xander and Jac. Friends word of advice never send a man to do a woman’s job. We get to meet a bada** named Nova that let’s these boys know she is the one. I almost forgot to tell you about Xander and Jac’s assistant, Penelope. She is trying to get her claws into Xander. Miss mama Camila nipped that in the butt. She said “Chop chop bitch”! Best line of the book!! We had some spice in here. All I’m going to tell you is there is belt and gun, let your imagination shine. Y’all know what happens next, mess. It’s going down. When I tell you my head was on swivel for the last like 30 percent of the book I mean it. There was definitely some twist I did not see coming. I was kept on my toes. Camila is a bada** and Xander is that guy. From start to finish the story paced along pretty well. I will say I wish these two would have talked more at times because it would have saved us some trouble but they got it together. Xander and Camila were destined to be together. They healed each other traumas and created new memories to replace the bad ones. It was beautiful. This was a great story.

Camille is a dancer at a fancy strip club and is working to save up money for a life and dance studio of her own. She is running from something and someone that threatens to suck her back into a world of abuse and imprisonment.

Her days go by dance after dance. She doesn’t do private dances or any extra services offered at the club. She prides herself on not allowing men to control her anymore and that includes while she is working. Her body is hers and hers only now.

That is until the boss of the club and notorious criminal, Xander lays his eyes on her. The moment their eyes lock during one of her nightly dances, their worlds collide whether Camille wants them to or not. When he watches her command the stage in a color he has long forgotten, she has him hypnotized and concerned, he knows he can’t live without her.

Camille notices him notice her but tries to brush it off, dating the boss? Not a good look and she is still trying to heal from her past. But Xander begins his task of making her his. He tries to push over her walls as he invades her life. His own past threatens to destroy a possible relationship with her. He knows he needs to get his mental in check before he scares her away. But he can’t help himself. He can’t be away from her.

As their relationship starts to develop feelings, deep seated trauma and past people begin to bleed into their budding relationship from both ends. They both come from a dark past but together, can they emerge into the light and be happy? Or will their past suck them back into a deep black hole of darkness and torment?

This book is the Authors debut and let me just say she kicked ass. I loved this book. I loved the characters and the dynamic they had. The dark elements within the book were just dark enough and added just the right amount of suspense to the story. I’m very excited for this authors future books and I will be watching for updates like a hawk! Congratulations on your debut Evie!!!!

Dark romance with obsession, trauma, heartbreak, love, touch her and die, funny, and emotional read. I enjoyed this book immensely.

Xander and Camila went through a lot of trauma. Xander's trauma coming from his childhood. We get flashbacks to his heartbreaking childhood and him learning about his "obsessive" tendencies. Losing both parents in very different ways had shaped him. But he has his best friend Jac there to help him along the way. Camila's coming from later in life. She is on the run from her abusive ex. There are also flashbacks to her story which is very haunting.

Xander only layed eyes on Camila one time to know that she was everything that he needed. His obsession takes over and he just puts himself into her life. Camila was taken a back when she saw Xander notice her. She tried to keep Xander away with the boss-employee conduct but Xander was not having that. He made sure that he was needed by her. I mean, what's the big deal if he destroys her car so he can rescue her and get her a new one? I mean that screams love to me LOL. I do love a good morally gray MMC. Xander is there for Camila when her ex is trying to seek vengeance from her. We get put into a world of drug running and mafia being put together by chance. The twists and turns in this book kept me captivated while reading this.

Xander needs control in life to function and Camila needs her independence after everything. Knowing these two things, how can this couple work? Evie wrote this portion well. It was emotional with these two trying to open up to each other. I loved reading this in depth knowledge of them. The chemistry was off the charts with these two.

There are great side characters in this book that I cannot wait to see more of in the future.

I’ve enjoyed reading Chains of Obsession from start to finish. I love the characters, I love the writing style and above all, I love the story.

Let’s be clear: this is a dark romance, so if you’re looking for a nice, fluffy love story, this book is not the way to go. But if you live for tough characters, brutal events, raw emotions and obsessive love, you’ve hit the jackpot. Although the story is heavy, it is beautifully written and therefore a very enjoyable read.

The MMC, Xander, is a man who has been struggling with obsessions his whole life. When he sees Camila, the FMC, for the first time, she becomes his newest fixation. It hits hard, and there’s no way he’s not going to get her. Camila escaped her abusive ex-boyfriend two years ago, and she has been hiding ever since. Pole dancing in Xander’s strip club has become her way of earning fast money so she can eventually start her own dance studio and finally be truly free.

Their love story is messy, rough, and at times unhealthy, yet it feels real. They grow to love each other deeply, and in my opinion, as a reader, there’s simply no way not to root for them.

The story shows how hard it can be to live with, and love, someone who struggles with mental health issues while also dealing with your own. Evie Wynters portrays this beautifully without softening the sharp edges. She shows that people facing these challenges are still just people. Imperfect, overwhelmed, and unable to handle everything life throws at them. The road is tough, full of bumps and obstacles, and sometimes you need each other to make it to the finish line.

This follows Camilla and Xander and… oh my god, what a ride.

Camilla is an exotic dancer with a haunted past, hiding from an ex I wanted to hit with a wooden chair from page one—and honestly, it only got worse the more I learned about him. Xander owns the club but rarely steps inside, until fate puts him there on the night she’s dancing. The moment he sees her, he is obsessed. And not in the standard dark-romance way—his genuine obsessive tendencies take over, and he starts inserting himself into her life. It’s not healthy, and he knows it, but the compulsion is stronger than his logic.

The flashbacks to Xander’s childhood were heartbreaking and eye-opening. Paired with Camilla’s memories of her life with her ex, you really feel how broken and vulnerable both of them are.

There’s also a fantastic subplot involving drug running and the Italian mafia. Even without the romance, I would’ve been hooked—the plot was brilliant, the twists genuinely surprised me, and watching both Xander and Camilla grow throughout the story was incredibly satisfying.

And the spice… Oh. My. God.
Chapters 36, 39, 41, and 51 will live rent-free in my brain forever. The commanding “Good Girl”? I was absolutely a goner.

Jac was another standout, and I really hope we get his story. Nova and Axel were great additions too—I definitely want more of them in future books.

Also, that last 30% had me crying. The heartbreak, the emotion, the absolute rollercoaster of it all—just phenomenal.

Solid 5/5 from me, and a strong 4 on the chilli scale.

Camilla has spent the past 2 years running from the man who took everything from her. Determined to one day open her own dance studio, she has been stripping in a high end club in the city, while hoping that the text messages she keeps receiving don’t mean her ex is getting closer. One night, while on stage, she makes eye contact with a man sitting in the VIP section, only to realize he is one of the owners of the club.

Xander hides a dark past, but has built his empire on power and control. While he has owned a strip club for years, he rarely sets foot into the building, but when he is forced to attend a meeting in the club, he is immediately distracted by a dancer in green. Despite his best efforts, his interest quickly turns into obsession, and he will stop at nothing to have her.

I received an early copy of this book from Ever After PR and really enjoyed it. I loved how both Camilla and Xander come from darkness, yet somehow manage to quiet each others’ demons. While their love is certainly not typical, it is true, and they show this by constantly choosing the other, time and time again. This book had so many twists in the last 100 pages that it kept me on the edge of my seat, and I can’t wait to see what will happen with Jac’s story, cause I know it’ll be a good one.

I love dark billionaire romances, make it a debut dark billionaire romance novel that ticks all the boxes that my dark little heart loves and I 👏🏼am 👏🏼here 👏🏼 for 👏🏼 it. Evie Wynters did the damn thing! There’s mental health rep, trauma, violence, spice, murder, money, and a stripper pole!! This is such a great read, I loved it so much and I cannot wait to read her future books because I am an instant fan.
Xanders obsession is overwhelming, yes, however when someone doesn’t know how to express love like him and uses his obsession as a way to express his love I cannot help but appreciate it. Camila has been through so much in a short life so to get the love and attention so fast from Xander, it’s understandable why she kept her walls up. And the plot twist….sooooo good. I 100% recommend this book and cannot wait for more from Evie Wynters.

Ak so žánrom začínate, možno je na začiatok toto tá pravá kniha. Chains of Obsession je autorkin debut (ja som ho dostala ako ARC) a je doslova nadupaný všetkými obľúbenými trópmi. Kniha je plná zvratov a nečakaných rozuzlení, takže vás bude držať v napätí až do konca. Číta sa naozaj ľahko a relatívne rýchlo (aj napriek tomu, že má 500 strán). Skoky v deji sú minimálne a nikdy nemáte pocit, že by vám niečo uniklo. Aj napriek tomu, že kniha obsahuje kostrbaté pasáže, nemám voči tomuto debutu žiadne výhrady. Končí happy endom!

Kniha vychádza už o 2 dni a je prvá v sérii.

This book was SO freaking good.
I was so captured from the VERY first page and I loved this so much.

Camila and Xander will live in my head rent free and their story was so brilliant.

I loved the growth arc of Camila. She is a woman who knows what she wants and uses her fear to power her, rather than stop her.
Xander’s growth arc of exploring his obsession and understanding why he is how he is, was so amazing to read. The yearning. Was. Yearnful. 😍

there are tears streaming down my face right now, BECAUSE HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO US! I was bawling my eyes out, because this book made me so insanely emotional and was so angsty. The plot started out like very typical dark romance style, The boss of a club becomes obsessed with one of his dancers. And obviously he will go to insane lengths to get her! But there’s many obstacles that stand in their way, mainly her toxic ex who’s coming after her. The plot was PLOTTING, it was so intense and I could not put this book down. Up until the very end I was glued to my kindle. And my gosh the trauma! In this book, both MCs have been through major trauma and they manifest it in different ways. He’s obsessive and feels the need to control things all the time, while she’s flighty and scared. They hurt each other but they’re also exactly what they need.
Xander, my poor baby has been through so much and I will NEVER SEE the colour green the same way EVER AGAIN. The CHOKEHOLD this book has on me right now, I don’t think I can start another book because my brain has exploded. I loved loved loved super triple loved this book so much and for the dark romance girlies, it’s gonna destroy you, but read it anyway. Easily a 6/5

If you love your dark romance with a morally grey edge and an MMC who will not be told no, Chains of Obsession delivers that and more.

We follow Xander—who lives his life toeing (and often crossing) the line of legality. He runs a strip club as a cover for everything he shouldn’t be doing… but never actually steps foot inside. That is, until one single meeting brings him through the doors on the exact night Camila takes the stage. From the second he sees her, something in him snaps into place. His fascination becomes obsession, and he’ll do anything to get close to her.

Camila, though, has already lived through the nightmare of being controlled. She’s determined to stand on her own, guarded and unwilling to lose herself again—no matter how magnetic Xander’s intensity is. As they circle each other, their pasts threaten to smother any chance at something real. But fate (and Xander’s persistence) refuses to loosen its grip.

We all have pet peeves, and one of mine is when a book is over described 🫩. Unfortunately, even though the premises were interesting, this book met the criteria of unnecessary over description really really fast.

I understand why description is necessary, but I can never get behind the intent of giving details JUST for the sake of it. Like okay the MMC’s favorite color is green, and given the context I understand why it was stated. But was it necessary to state the exact brand of a car, the color of the shirt that the MMC AND his best friend are wearing. Exactly what’s in their drink, the EXACT club’s floor color, the EXTENDED description of it ????

“ Oh but it might be to highlight the fact that the MMC has ADHD”
First off, every person that I know who has ADHD might over describe, yes. But a SITUATION not a building’s floor plan!!

And second, if it was only to highlight the MMC’s neurodivergence WHY would the FMC over describe too ???

Truth be told, unless in certain settings (romantasy, horror, PNR), over description feels childish and Wattpad-y and doesn’t bring anything new to the table. Because of it I really really didn’t connect with the author’s writing unfortunately.

Xander is a big time drug dealer and violent gangster.

Camilla is a Pole Dancer at Diamond Lounge, the club owned by Xander and his business partner. Camilla catches Xander’s eye the moment he sees her. He definitely gives off stalker vibes at times and most certainly will kill anyone that touches her!

Camilla is very vulnerable underneath her tough exterior which is a pretence for survival. Tortured by horrific events from her past, she is trying to hide from her abusive ex boyfriend who sends her daily abusive and threatening messages.

Xander has his own abusive past with demons of his own at force in his head, demons that he has suppressed and does not wish to talk about.

I loved Camilla’s character. A good person with a good heart that’s been dealt a very bad deal in life. I was willing for her to succeed and to escape her ex boyfriend once and for all and leave his torture, abuse and manipulation behind her. Xander is a very dangerous bad guy but with a good heart overall. His stalker ways were extreme at times but his only goal was to protect Camilla. I really loved their relationship despite the at times unhealthy dynamic.

5✨!!!
I have to confess that mafia books usually are not my cup of tea but this book really surprised me and took me out of my reading slump.
The writing is so addictive and so is the story. This book got me crying and laughing and I think it sums up pretty much why I loved it so much.
Camilla is such a strong female character and I really missed reading about a character like her.
Xander is so intense in everything and somehow they really matched.
I could feel their chemistry from miles away and it really soothed my heart the way they were broken but still tried so hard to heal each other.
All those moments when we went back to the past made my heart clench with hurt and sadness for them, they were so young for everything they went through, but the ending was so heart warming❤️‍🩹.
I didn't figure out any of the plot twists until they appeared and my head exploded when finally everything made sense.
I loved this book since the first chapter and I'm so excited for the next one!!
We need a Jac's book (maybe with Estella👀)!

I fluctuate between 3-4 stars for this book. The beginning immediately gripped me as soon as I started reading. The flashbacks were interesting and the first time Xander sees Camila was absolutely electric.

The last 75% of the book brought out the water works. The drama, the pain, and the plot made me feel all the emotions and made me cry. That emotion it invoked is why I want to give it 4🌟.

What makes me say 3🌟 is the middle of the book. The back and forth between Xander and Camila often felt repetitive. It often felt like Camila jumped to conclusions and reacted brashly. And a lot of that could have been fixed if they were both better at communicating with each other.

Despite the repetition and miscommunication, I did enjoy Xander and Camila’s story. There was so much yearning, growth, and tons of slow burn that led to the perfect amount of spice!

I recommend this book if you love an emotional and dark billionaire, mafia romance where the MMC is obsessed with the FMC right from the start💚

I had the honor of receiving an ARC for this book and I am so happy I did! This book was so good I wish I could read it for the first time again. I stayed up till midnight just reading this book and it was worth every minute!

The way that Xander loves Camila is like nothing I have read before. Sure I have read possessive and obsessed MMCs before but Xander takes the cake on being my favorite. He not only love Camila so strongly but he made her feel safe again. After everything she went through with Luke, she deserves to find someone who loves her for herself and someone who will protect her and she found that with Xander.

I even love how Camille and Jacques became close after everything as well. Having two brothers at your side is something that I love to see and read. If you need a book that will take you out of a reading slump, make you feel all the emotions, and a book that has you up all night reading then I completely recommend this book to you but make sure to check your trigger warnings!!

Don’t we all just love a MMC who is completely obsessed with a FMC to the extent that he might just stalk a little bit (to make sure she is safe and get to know her as much as he can 🤪) and a FMC who is strong, tough and is full of opinion and comments. You guessed it Chains of Obsession has both and Xander and Camila are brilliant!!!

Add in the fact that Xander is involved in organised crime, the book has amazing side characters oh and there is a cute cat side kick and you just know it’s going to be an amazing read!!!

Xander is a man obsessed with Camila and I was totally there for it. Both of them have a load of trauma which they are trying to navigate and impacts on their relationships which means nothing is as easy as it should be and I just ate the whole thing up. A plot twists that I was totally not expecting.

For readers that love a morally grey MMC, a FMC who has sass in heaps, this is a great read.
