I have read books with characters who had psychic gifts before. It can be frustrating when not done well. But, I guess it not being done well is subjective. What I really liked about Devyn's gift is that it produced some concrete facts along with the feelings she was having. It wasn't something like "I see darkness and feel cold", so the reader is left going, "And?".

Devyn's gift left me feeling like she at least had enough information to follow a trail or think through a process, or had something to send her in a direction that would produce a result. There was a nice amount of suspense that I was pleasantly surprised about considering it was such a short read.

Cade's attitude was interesting. I felt it was pretty obvious what was going to happen with his situation. What I didn't expect was the hostility expressed toward Devyn. It had me wondering what happened to him to cause his feelings to be so intense?

I also wish I had a description of Cade. I had a vague idea of the way Devyn looked, but I could not picture Cade at all. Those visuals really help me to enjoy a book more.

This was a short fast paced read. It absolutely could be read on a lunch hour. I'm looking forward to Devyn's and Cade's next book.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

This is completely different from this author's usual fare, so if you're expecting a usual romance, this isn't it. The first in three stories about these MCs, this is more of a background of these characters. Oh and a mystery that needs to be solved. Devyn is a psychic and her regular appointment was a no show. This is unusual enough that she goes to search for her. And runs into a cop, Cade, who believes she's a money grubbing con artist. I like this author's writing and it's an interesting premise. But no romance. Looking forward to see what happens next.

This is the first four chapters in Regan Black’s new suspense novel, “The Devyn and Cade series.” To my delight, right from the beginning, the readers encounter mystery, action, a missing woman, and a huge argument between the two main characters.

When Psychic Devyn Norris realizes that one of her clients, and a close friend, does not show up for her counseling appointment, she is very concerned about where she is. Meanwhile Detective Cade Laurier has been called in by the woman’s husband who is also worried about where his wife is,

When Cade finds Devyn in the woman’s house, he is furious to see her at the crime scene. He is even angrier when he learns about her unusual mental abilities and the fact that she is interfering in his kidnapping case.
Cade already distrusts Devyn and suspects her of being involved in the disappearance of this woman.

Readers will immediately feel excited with the riveting suspense, and the constant conflicts that occur in the first four chapters.

I can’t wait to read more!

This is book 1 of a series. No Time for Doubt lays the foundation between Devyn and Cade (imagine being on a roller coaster -- this is the climb but with some page turning already). I am eagerly waiting the next books. Bravo!

Devyn, the main character, is a psychic who helps people meet their full potential. In this novella, she is concerned about her missing friend Nell and goes to Nell’s home. There she meets scoffer police detective Cade Laurier who doesn’t want to believe she had any kind of ability to help his investigation. There are surprising twists in this quick read even though it is pretty obvious from the beginning who the bad guy is. This is an entertaining read and a delightful beginning to a new short series.

This is the first part of the Devyn and Cade series and lays the foundation of the relationship between Devyn Norris, a psychic, and Cade Laurier, a.detective in Chicago who feels that all psychics are charlatans. With lots of drama and some angst, we see the prejudice that Devyn faces due to the gift that she has, despite evidence to the contrary. I enjoyed this story and look forward to reading the next installment.

What an intriguing series with a psychic, excuse me…a “counselor”, who is concerned as her scheduled appointment was a no show. Devyn Norris knows that her client and friend, Nell Perada, would have cancelled, if she were able, and feels that she is in trouble. Arriving at her Nell’s home, it is obvious that there has been a struggle as she meets surly Detective Cade Laurier. He is not happy to have her at his crime scene. He does not believe in psychics or “counselors”. When she tries to explain how conscientious her client is and that there is trouble between Nell and her husband, he doesn’t seem interested. Devyn will not give up as she discusses the case with her mentor Marlene. She will follow her “feelings” and hope that she will find Nell in time as if not, this will not end well for Nell. A shorter, but extremely fascinating read as Devyn doesn’t back down from Cade’s disagreeable demeanor. I can’t wait to read the second novella in this series. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)

This audiobook introduces psychic Devlyn Norris and detective Cade Laurier.
When Devlyn’s client doesn’t contact her for her appointment, Devlyn has a feeling something is very wrong. Determined to find the woman, she goes to her client’s home, and finds the place filled with the police. Needless to say, Devlyn is stonewalled by Detective Laurier. She tells him the story the husband is saying is not true and that her client is in danger. Not taken seriously, Devlyn goes out in search of her client.
Even though the story is short, it’s action packed and the main complex characters well developed. It ends leaving the listeners with loose ends that will likely get more complex in future stories.
This listener is anxious to see what else is in store in the next “episode”.
The narrators Teddy Hamilton and Andi Arndt bring the story to life.
I was entrusted a copy of this audiobook through Spotify. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

No Time for Double is book 1 in the Devyn and Cade series by Regan Black 4.5 stars

Devyn Norris is considered a psychic and when one of her clients goes missing she opens her mind as to what might have happened, things lead her the home of her client and friend and Detective Cade Laurier who is investigating a missing person reported by her husband. Cade doesn’t believe Devyn is a psychic and she is interfering with the investigation…this just a short read but gets your attention and makes you want more of Cade and Devyn in their push and pull scenario and opens you up for more of these two! Can’t wait for the next book!

‘There was a sweet spark of joy.’

Psychic/counselor Devyn Norris invited herself to Detective Cade Laurier’s crime scene when her client/friend Nell fails to show up for their appointment and they immediately rub each other the wrong way. Determined to find Nell before it’s too late Devyn uses her gift to find the missing woman while ignoring the darkness swarming around the detective realizing that they may have closed the case but they weren’t done with each other in this intriguing first novella.

4+ Stars ⭐⭐⭐🌟 NO TIME FOR DOUBT is a rollercoaster of emotions and an intriguing, brilliant start to this trilogy. The connection between Devyn and Cade begins with his distrust of her abilities and her disdain for his quick judgment. Although brief, this episode introduces us to the characters in a unique way with a challenging case. It grabs our attention and keeps our interest high from the start. While we are left with personal sorrow and deeper emotions, we are also intrigued about what’s coming next as their story continues.

Law Enforcement (Cade) and a Psychic (Devyn) meet in the house of a missing person. This is not your standard psychic and there is a twist and some underlining incidents. It is a short read introducing the characters and laying some ground work. It does not fit in a box, its mystery with light Paranormal and more. They are short books you can enjoy during your lunch and not be left in the lurch. Thank you for the arc. I freely volunteer my honest thoughts and opinions. #NoTimeforDoubt #DevynandCade #ReganBlack #Bookfunnel

Oh this is an excellent beginning....even if i needed tissue at a moment....Devyn is a psychic and when one of her client is no show her instinct tell her she is in danger and she wants ( must) help....but the detective in charge is not open minded at all and even the opposite doubting her again and again.... however fate may have a say in the matter

Short story well worth reading.

Psychic Devyn has a client disappear, and she goes for help from Cade a detective.

Fast paced, and loaded with action and flirty fun between these two. It was a great story that was involving and that dynamic of psychic and sceptic always draws me in.

Regan Black writes a interesting story about likable people and a plot that i really enjoyed. Great book!

This is a trilogy.
NO TIME FOR DOUBT, NO ROOM TO BREATHE and NO ARTFUL REFUSAL.
The stories in this trilogy blend seamlessly together in a fascinating fast-paced read that is something any sensitive will really appreciate. Devyn is a psychic and Cade is a Detective, and they clash immediately.
Ms. Black tells three thrilling stories about separate cases that these two are connected to, how they each deal with the evidence, and how the cases are solved.
I Loved it!!

Devyn is a psychic who is getting a strange feeling about her latest client that hasn't shown up for her appointment. Cade is the sceptic police officer assigned to the case. Can they work together to find the missing women?

This is a great beginning to the new series! It sucks you in and makes you want to read more. I am lucky to be on Regan Black's ARC team, so I was able to continue with the next two stories.

Whew…what an awesome beginning to this series! It’s short but filled with a crime scene, a possible murder and a psychic bound and determined to help her friend even with a doubting detective trying to shove her away. Will Devyn be able to “see” how to help her friend before time is up and will Detective Cade Lanier help or hinder? Loved it!!

This is the first of a new book for Regan and right from the start we are getting to know Devyn and Cade and let's just say there's no love lost between them. Cade just knows she's interfering in his kidnapping case and doesn't believe in her abilities. Devyn won't give up on Nell and using her gift finds her but, is the case closed and what's next for these two? Mystery and suspense.

A short introduction to a new series. The couple involved are at odds, personally and professionally. Devyn is a Counsellor/Psychic acting as a listener for a person with issues to endure or resolve. Cade is a police officer. Their first meeting is not cordial or warm; it is a crime scene of a missing woman..her client, his case.

It was bound to happen. Psychic Devyn Norris and Detective Cade Laurier would butt heads when they appeared at the same crime scene. Devlyn tried to keep her abilities under the radar; however, the detective didn't believe her abilities. Great short story to introduce the wonderful characters.

Short but intriguing start to a new series featuring a psychic (Devy) and a detective (Cade). We get introduced to the characters and she's helps him solve a case, without asking for any credit. I'm looking forward to see where this series goes.

Very short story but totally enjoyable. Love this concept of the Physic and the skeptic Detective. Both have the same goal to find the missing wife but using very different methods. Even with proof of Devyn's ability Cade still convinces himself she is a fraud. A great start to a new series

This novella is the introduction to Devyn, a psychic, and Cade a police detective. They meet when one of Devyn’s clients disappears. Of course, Cade’s reactions runs from skeptical to overtly hostile. The premise is interesting, the story is light and I enjoyed it.

Very, very quick/short audiobook on Spotify. Feel this was teaser novella to introduce the characters for a future book. Duel narration was good. Very rushed but that's probably to allow a conclusion to a short novella.
