The bad boy cursed me, the control freak collared me, the golden boy kissed me—and I'm here for all of it!
I woke up in jail with three men fighting over who gets to claim me—and none of them are even human. Number One is a leather-clad demigod with a belt that does more than hold up his jeans. Number Two is a rogue secret agent with a habit of giving orders like he expects to be obeyed. Number Three is a flirty charmer who's convinced I'm his soulmate.
Apparently, I'm part of some ancient prophecy—the missing piece in a divine war. The gods want me back, the Titans want me gone, and these three lunatics are stuck with me in a death-trap labyrinth. To escape, we'll need to unlock our shared powers. Together.
THE STAR WE SHARE is a high-heat, fast-burn why-choose romance where Greek gods meet modern spice. Expect sharp banter, mythic danger, and a maze full of magic, mayhem, and multiple happily-ever-afters.

Short/novella-ish RHs are always hard because there just isn’t a lot of time to really develop things. This is just a quick, fun, short steamy. It’s not bad, I just never really felt connected to it. There was too much male POV in this one for me too.
3.0 JA Huss has always been known for her prolific output, and this short story shows her willingness to experiment. What makes this one unique is the way she involved her patrons in shaping the genre, tropes, character names, and even some plot points. That collaborative element adds a layer of fun to the project.
The pacing is fast, since it is a short listen. While Huss is often celebrated for her spice, twists, and tunes woven into strong plots, I’ve found myself leaning more towards her earlier work these days. Because I know she has twists or she write so deep I spend too much time trying to anticipate and solve them, which overshadows my enjoyment of the ride, and I think that is what happened here.
In terms of spice, this sits on the lower side compared to her past books. The blurb covers the essentials, and I’d class this firmly as a standalone fantasy short rather than part of a larger series.
As a fan, I’ll keep listening to Huss’s upcoming releases, she has new works slated for late this year or early next, but I personally hope some of them recapture the flavour of her earlier writing.
Verdict: A fast‑paced, patron‑powered short story with a fantasy edge. Enjoyable, but didn’t land as well for me, and I found myself missing the balance of her earlier work.
"The Star We Share" is a thrilling, spicy romp. Prepare for mythic danger, over-the-top possessiveness ("Touch Her and Die"), and a heroine who handles being the key to an ancient prophecy—and three distinct non-human lovers—with confidence and sass. It’s perfect for a weekend listen when you need a blend of fantasy action and seriously hot romance.
Author JA Huss wrote this short story with the input of her readers who helped choose the genre, tropes, character names, and some of the plot points. The action starts immediately when the FMC, Star, awakens in jail surrounded by three men she doesn't know and who agree that they all need to get out of there fast, even though they don't trust one another. The story itself is fast-paced with each of the three male characters trying to sway her to go with him as each tries to fill in details from his own perspective. They each have special "gifts" which get altered in the unknown realm they suddenly find themselves in. There's heat, spice (and everything nice!) and suspenseful moments that make this story a fun read and/or audio book to listen to. The narrators, Isabella Turner, James Cassidy, Sebastian Grove and Jarmin Day are all new to me, but do a wonderful job portraying the proper angst and allure as the four try and navigate a way to all survive. A quick, fun and entertaining read!
The Star We Share wasn't what I have come to expect from the brilliant mind of J.A. Huss. Yes, the premise was very intriguing and why I picked it up. But perhaps having this as a part of her Patreon subscription and allowing her Patrons to help write it is why it fell short for me.
It just felt all over the place with a ton of typos (again very unusual for this writer) that took me out of the story more than a few times. I truly did like all of the characters involved but the book seemed to have lost its way as the explanations of what is happening with Star and her suitors became confusing and somewhat ridiculous.
Not sure how much influence these Patrons had on the story, but it felt a bit unfinished, rushed and in need of some good editing. Which, again, is not the usual case with this talented author.
I can only hope in the future she might rethink using others to help write her stories since her imagination is one of the best out there.
This book is described as “a high-heat, fast-burn why-choose romance where Greek gods meet modern spice — a fun romp through a fantasy s** maze,” and trust me, it did not disappoint! 🔥
I was lucky enough to be part of JA Huss’s Patreon when this one was being written with her readers, and honestly, anything this author touches, I love. This one was no exception — it’s fun, fast-paced, and I would’ve happily devoured another 200 pages!
I read along with the audiobook, and the narrators absolutely brought the story to life. 🎧✨ 4.5 stars
JA Huss's The Star We Share is a captivating and engaging novel, offering a spicy narrative with a touch of why choose. The story begins with Star awakening in a jail cell, where she is confronted by three formidable men seeking to claim her. Among these men are a demigod, a charmer, and a secret agent, each possessing a distinct and captivating charm. This book provides an entertaining enemies-to-lovers why choose romantasy.
While I enjoyed this I didn’t have the same compulsion to read and discover more of the story I usually have from a JA Huss book. There was no wild twisty ride. It was a pretty straightforward story with sex. The characters were ok, no one particularly grabbed me and no one I particularly disliked. So I feel a bit disappointed- I usually love books by JA Huss. This really is a take it or leave it book.
Story was ok, a little bit of spice, but certainly not the best book I've ever read. However the biggest issue I had with this book is the sheer number of grammatical mistakes, honestly, it felt like every page had at least 2 errors. If I was JA Huss, I would be sacking my editors and proofreaders with immediate effect, because they are worse than useless!!
This story is a complex romance, reverse harem why choose, forced proximity, dealing with demigods and mortals that reluctantly find themselves out to find a way by working together to save the girl and solving the reasons behind it all as they go. We get a hea between them all 💕
I enjoyed reading this story. I was drawn in from the beginning to find out who everyone is what is happening and how they deal with everything and love the ending. Look forward to reading more books by JA Huss
A short book that could have been so much more, that deserved so much more. JA Huss spoils me with every new book, but The Star We Share, maybe because of the way it was conceived, felt anticlimactic. Neither the fun, the spicy scenes or the plot in general really kept me interested.
There are no words to describe how incredibly fast I devoured this book!! The book is sooo steamy HOT!! You have to make sure you fan your self from start to finish!!!
