"Down for the Count" by Karley Brenna is a "not his baby" second chance romance featuring a heaping side of found family. I really enjoyed this book despite my not loving pregnancy romances. I am trying to broaden my horizons in 2026! The main characters, Beckham and Parker, were young and in love. When they turned 18, they decided to go their separate ways to pursue their respective dreams. Parker wound up pregnant by a man who wanted nothing to do with the baby, and Beckham suffered a tremendous loss and wound up quitting rodeo. With nowhere else to go after her dad passes away, Parker decides to stay in Bell Buckle once again. Beckham will do anything to get her back again, though Parker is trying to keep her distance so she doesn't rely too heavily on Beckham and his family. Parker would love nothing more than for his family to be her family, but family always leaves her, so she is nervous to join in on the holidays and traditions and conversations. I liked watching Parker and Beckham reconnect as adults. Beckham is down bad for Parker, so it was fun to watch him be so head-over-heels for her. Even while she is pregnant, Beckham wants nothing more than to be a father to her baby. The spice is really good in this one. It's not all giddiness and light. There is also a hefty focus on grief and loss and familial abandonment. Both main characters are both going through their fair share of trauma, and they seek solace in one another over time. There is also a suspense element to this story, which I did not really see coming, so it made it all the more thrilling. This is a great ending to the Bell Buckle series!

Thank you to Karley Brenna and Twisted Tales PR for the complimentary ARC of this book. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this review.

Thank you to Karley Brenna and Twisted Tales PR for the ARC of this book.

I absolutely loved this book! It had me crying and laughing, I loved the element of mystery in it.
I loved how sweet Beckham was throughout the book, and how they both navigated through past trauma. It had just the right amount of spice where I felt that the book was not only spice, but also had some plot and story to it.
Some tropes that stood out are
-Small town cowboy
-Not his baby
-Second chance
-Caretaking
-Found family

It was such an entertaining and fast paced read.

#Review: *Down for the Count* - Karley Brenna - ARC [18+]
5/5✨
3/5🌶️

Parker and Beckham became close when they were really young. Parker always found solace in his presence and in his family's house, because of the terrors she had to endure in her own home. They were both determined to follow their passions and dreams, something which made them lose contact to one another.

Time passed, and Parker and Beckham had the chance to see each other again in their old town, but they both had some hidden scars that they were trying to keep secret. Besides that, Parker was carrying someone else's child, which was a little uncomfortable for her and Beckham, given their past together. How will this newfound closeness play into their lives?

Gosh, how addicted am I to these angsty stories! This one had plenty of that and so much yearning intertwined with some pretty heartbreaking events. I loved that unique connection Parker and Beckham had and how much comfort they offered each other. It was strange to see them acting that awkward when they saw each other again, knowing that they used to be so close several years before. They certainly were affected by the fact that they didn't know how their current lives were going and how to manage the situation they were in. I liked that there was a touch of suspense in this book, something which made me enjoy this story even more, because of those unknown facts.

I just love these kind of books where you don't know what to expect from the plot and which has so much chemistry between characters. I loved their personalities and their protective side. Also, it was a lovely second chance romance, which was combined so well with the other tropes of this story.

Many thanks goes to lovely Karley for offering me this e-ARC and who accepted me to be part of the ARC team for this wonderful book.

Ohhh Beckham and Parker, what a way to end an amazing series 🧡

After 10 years apart, a funeral brings the pair back together…but Parker is also pregnant. Knowing what he wants, Beckham tells Parker she is going to stay with him for as long as she needs, the rest of the story you will have to find out for yourself 🤭

I loved the chemistry between the pair, even if it did feel a bit rushed/disjointed in some places. Karley handles some sensitive topics really well throughout this book and I loved how protective Beckham’s family is over him given everything that he’s been through. And what can I say about the naming of the baby…perfection 🤌🏼

I have loved ARC reading this one, so thank you Karley once again for letting me do this 🧡

I bawled my eyes out. If you take anything else away from my review just know that I bawled. Multiple times. Reading books as you grow in age and life experiences I find myself relating to more in the stories. This book is definitely one of them. If you've read any of the other books in this series there's mention of Parker a few times briefly. You also, only get some glimpses of Beckham and what he's like as a Bronson sibling. The once bubbly, golden retriever, adrenaline junkie Beckham experiences a loss that affects him deep into his soul. At the same time Parker comes back into his life. To see how he handles his emotions of grief and having his first love back in his life is raw and real in a way I'm glad to see being written more often now. There's moments you want to yell at Parker and the same with Beckham. For me, I love having books that I fully immerse myself in to the point I'm yelling out loud "stop being stubborn" which did happen. If you're looking for a romance book with relatable character trials and growth along with spice and multiple books in a series that interconnect I would recommend giving this books a chance.

Such a beautiful story! I loved Parker and Beckham so much. Their connection as teenagers carried well over the years apart and it was evident when Parker came home for her father’s funeral. The love between them may have been buried but seeing it revealed through Beckham’s kindness was everything. I loved seeing them both open up to one another after dealing with grief and confusion and loved how they worked together to overcome it. The added suspense really kept me on the edge of my seat for a minute as well and I loved how protective Beck was in order to make sure Parker and the baby stayed safe. Plus the ending had me nearly in tears with the namesake and dedication to Garrett! 🥹💖

Hands down my favorite of this series. Just so good, and the perfect way to end this series.

Parker + Beckett were everything I wanted. I’m a sucker for a second chance romance and “not his baby” is also one of my favorite tropes so this book was certainly set up for success to start with. But all the emotion in this story just hooked me and had me rooting for them so hard.

Thank you so much to Karley for an easy copy of this book!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ARC READ: Down for the Count wrecked me—in the best way possible.

I don’t even know where to begin, except to say this story owned my heart. I went in already a little unhinged because yes, I read the last book first (no regrets, zero self-control), but if anything, it made me fall harder for Parker and Beckham.

Parker’s story is raw, aching, and real. She comes from a hard life, shaped by loss, grief, and survival—and the fact that her best friend was also her safe place? That connection was everything. Their bond wasn’t just romance; it was history, comfort, and inevitability. The kind of love that doesn’t disappear just because time or distance tries to tear it apart.

This book doesn’t shy away from heavy topics—depression, grief, loss, healing—and it handles them with such honesty it hurt. The line about the world not stopping just because your will to live is dwindling? That sat in my chest. There’s no sugarcoating grief here. No neat answers. Just existing, coping, and learning how to keep breathing when everything feels broken.

And Beckham? Lord help me. For the girls who love a man on his knees—mentally and physically—this book delivers. His devotion is relentless. Protective without being controlling. Soft where it matters, feral when it counts. Watching him willingly step into Parker’s life, loving her and her baby without hesitation, without obligation—only choice—was everything. He didn’t just say he wanted her. He showed it. Over and over again.

Their chemistry is explosive, but what made it unforgettable was the emotional tension underneath it. The rules. The restraint. The fear of wanting too much. And when those rules finally shattered? Worth every second of the slow burn. Every kiss felt earned. Every touch felt desperate and familiar and inevitable.

Beyond the romance, the found family moments hit just as hard. The holidays. The traditions. The way Parker is embraced, not tolerated. The way love is shown quietly—in soup instead of turkey, in lights strung by hand, in choosing someone every single day. And yes, I openly sobbed over the naming of their son. Naming him wasn’t just emotional—it was healing.

This book is about second chances. About loving after loss. About choosing joy even when you’re terrified it could be taken away. About the kind of love that feels written in the stars—across lifetimes, across grief, across everything.

I laughed. I cried. I melted. I reread scenes just to feel them again.

Five stars. No notes. Beckham Bronson forever. 💔❤️

Thank you so much to the author and Twisted Tales PR for the opportunity to read this as an e-arc ahead of publication!

4.25⭐️ Beckham Bronson (MMC) is absolutely down bad for Parker Summerhill (FMC) and I’m obsessed! This is a yeehaw yes from me! 🤠🧡

This is my fourth read by Karley Brenna, and I just absolutely love her writing style; it flows effortlessly and is so easy to read and follow! The chapter lengths were also on the shorter side, which I personally love, which made it easier to fly through this book! Both MC’s were great individually, and I loved their dynamic together as well.

After 10 years apart, Beckham and Parker find themselves back together again in Bell Buckle. Their relationship very much gives ‘red string theory’ and I’m always a sucker for that sort of plot line. The way Beckham steps up to support Parker during her pregnancy, even though the baby isn’t biologically his, is heartwarming. And the way Parker was able to support Beckham through his feelings of grief and help him open up was also so sweet to read as well.

The only thing I can say is I wish there was maybe more flashbacks to Beckham and Parker’s past, or maybe some snippets into their past from when they were apart the 10 years for more character structure and background. I did enjoy the couple flashbacks included, I just wish there was more. The ending felt a littleeee rushed and kind of random with the little bit of mystery element, but I enjoyed it nonetheless!

⭐️⭐️ I’m a sucker for emotional stories, so I knew Beckham’s story would hit me right in the feelings. And it did… partially. 😔
Down for the Count could’ve been a great read, if Parker and the toxic codependency between the main characters hadn’t completely ruined it for me. 😬

Parker is Beckham’s childhood love, raised in an abusive home, who leaves at eighteen to “see the world.” Beckham lets her go, believing he’ll never see her again. Fast forward ten years: they reunite at a funeral, she’s pregnant with another man’s child, and boom…Beckham activates full hero mode.

Beckham struggles with depression and anxiety after losing his best friend, and instead of learning how to heal, he does what he’s always done: saves Parker. His hero complex takes over, his emotions are neglected, and yet…he’s the best part of this book. He’s beautifully written. His guilt, insecurities, pain, and devotion felt raw and real. I fell for him instantly.🥹❤️

And then there’s Parker.
Soft. Fragile. Helpless.
And honestly? Infuriating.🙃

She refuses Beckham’s help because she “doesn’t want to be a burden,” yet moves into his house, lets him cook, clean, feed her, take care of everything while preaching independence. Make it make sense 🙂. I understand pregnancy and needing support, but this woman does nothing throughout the entire book.

The result? One deeply layered character and one painfully underdeveloped one. A relationship built on codependency rather than growth. A man with a hero complex, a woman stuck in victim mode, and a love that crosses the line into obsession.

That said, the author writes well. The angst works, the emotions are there, and because of that I will continue the series. This one just wasn’t for me.

I really loved the concept behind this story. The fear of opening your heart again and wondering if anyone could truly love your children as their own was portrayed in such an honest, emotional way. Those doubts and walls felt real, and the idea of rebuilding a life after years of running and surviving added a lot of depth. The second-chance romance between Beckham and Parker was sweet, and watching them find their way back to each other after so much time apart was one of the highlights for me.

Unfortunately, Parker as an FMC just did not work for me. I kept hoping to see more personal growth, particularly after spending a decade on her own, but instead she often talked about being independent without fully showing it. She came across more like someone constantly needing to be rescued, which made the dynamic feel unbalanced since Beckham was clearly giving far more emotionally. There were also a few moments where the pregnancy timeline felt a little off and pulled me out of the story.

Although, Beckham completely stole the show. He was protective, steady, and endlessly devoted, and it was impossible not to fall for him. While he sometimes leaned into the role of the fixer and the white knight, it made sense given his past and his instinct to take care of the people he loves. He showed up for Parker again and again, even when he was struggling himself, and I honestly never felt like he was the one who needed to grovel. His only real goal was her happiness, and that made him such a strong, lovable hero.

The romance itself was enjoyable but occasionally felt rushed. The shift from tension and distance to intimacy happened very quickly, and I would have loved more time spent developing both their backstory and the rebuilding of their connection. The suspense and plot twist added a nice layer of drama, though I think the story could have gone even deeper there.

Overall, this was a light, cozy, and engaging second-chance romance filled with yearning, found family, and a truly wonderful MMC. Even though Parker often frustrated me and the pacing could have been smoother, I still found the book easy to read and enjoyable. It was a sweet wrap-up to the series and one I would still recommend to readers looking for a comforting cowboy romance with a touch of drama and a lot of heart.

4.5 ⭐️ I’ve been impatiently waiting for this one since the previous book, and it delivered all the emotions I was hoping for. I absolutely loved Beckham and Parker’s story.

This is the final book in the Bell Buckle series, and while it can be read as a standalone, I love the entire series and the Bronson family and have to recommend reading them all.

In the previous book, we see Beckham struggling. This time, we finally get his story and learn more about his relationship with Parker when she comes back into town for her dad’s funeral…pregnant. I was hooked from the very beginning.

The two were meant to be. I loved the way Beckham was all in and ready for their second chance. The pregnancy added depth to the story, but it never felt like the main plot.

Parker has a quiet strength, healing from a difficult upbringing and navigating an unexpected pregnancy, she never loses herself.

Beckham grew so much from the hurt and grieving man we previously saw. With Parker back in town, he took the time to heal and truly open up. Their bond and connection ran deep, and everything felt earned. He didn’t push too fast, instead, he slowed down, followed Parker’s rules, and gave her the space she needed. His patience, protectiveness, and both the small and big gestures were absolute chef’s kiss.

This one has a lot of emotion and heart… family, tension, grief, and a small dose of danger.

The final book of the Bell Buckle series is finally here. Beckham left town when he was 18 to join the rodeo riding broncs. 10 years later he has returned to Bell Buckle after retiring. He has been going through it for the last 4 months after a big loss. But Beck isn’t the only one who left town all those years ago and is now back. Parker left to find herself and travel from ranch to ranch to learn all she could. After a positive pregnancy test and the death of her father she is back to Bell Buckle for good. Beck and Park have history and now that they are both back there is no denying that fate brought them back together. Their story is full of healing, suspense, and a lot of love. Parker is a strong woman who can take care of herself and will do anything to give her unborn child the best life. Beckham has spent the last decade with Parker on his mind and in his heart. He is fully prepared to love and care for her and her baby, even if it isn’t his. Agh! This book was so good and we loved the characters so much! And of course we love seeing all of the other characters too. It is bittersweet saying goodbye to Bell Buckle but we hope it isn’t the last we see…we are really hoping Wyatt gets a book 🤞🤭

A small-town second-chance romance with the pregnancy trope? One hundred percent yes!!

First of all, thanks to the author and Twisted Tales PR for sending me this ARC and trusting me with her work. I'm obsessed with the Bell Buckle series, so it should come as no surprise that I devoured this book. Down for the Count is the fifth and final book in the series, and what a finale 😍

I was hooked from the very first sentence and all but flew through the pages. One thing Karley Brenna really excels at, is writing heartfelt stories about characters who're lost and need a bit of help finding themselves, often through falling in love and healing together.

The angst that Beckham and Parker's shared past brought, not to mention Beck's grief in battling the memory of his recently deceased best-friend and his guilt over the accident, really brought this book to life. Although Beck was initially scared to show 'weakness' by crying, he gradually opened up more and more to Parker, who allowed him to be vulnerable without judging him. He's so sweet, and the way he cares so much for Parker's unborn baby, even though it's not his own child, was wonderful. This is what you call a real man 🤭
They love teasing each other and the tension between them was *chefs kiss*.

I'm sad to say goodbye to the characters, but this really was the ending this series deserved 🧡

I received an advanced review copy at no cost, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you to the author, Karley Brenna, for the opportunity to read this book.

I am SO SAD that this is the end of the Bell Buckle series, but it was the absolute PERFECT ending, and it brought me so much joy to have been able to ARC read this entire series. This entire series had a chokehold on me, and the characters will have my heart for a long time.

This had some of my absolute favorite tropes and themes, and with that, this was an easy five-star read for me. Second-chance romance will always be a favorite of mine, and Karley did it so well with Beckham and Parker’s story. I typically do not love pregnancy within romance books, but this one was a little more unique in that it was a “not his baby” romance where Beckham steps up to be Parker and the baby’s person without any questions asked, even though the baby is not his (and neither is Parker, if we are honest). There is grief to work through as it pertains to this situation, but Beckham also has his own demons and grief to work through as well, which makes this such a complicated friendship for them.

There is an element of suspense that kept me on my toes throughout the book, and I did not see the outcome, so the plot twist was very well done. And the SPICE, in this one….chef’s kiss. I laughed, I cried, and at the end, I felt satisfied that everything got tied up in a neat little bow to end the series.

ARC read✨
I am thankful to Karley Brenna and Twisted Tales PR for the opportunity to read DFTC as an ARC.

My first 5 star of 2026 and it is truly well deserved, honestly I received this arc through email less than 24 hours ago and I have absolutely devoured it.

Karley Brenna had me hooked with the Bell Buckle series from book 1 and I’m sad to say that it’s now over and we’re not getting any more books in this series.

This story is a second chance romance for the final Bronson sibling Beckham. Parker is his first love and when she returns to town pregnant with another man’s child Beckham doesn’t know what to think until he realises she is all he wants no matter the situation.
I loved the chemistry between Beckham and Parker from the beginning and my love for them only grew throughout the book.

Tropes:
🤍 Not His Baby
✨ Second Chance
🤍 Found Family
✨ Caretaking
🤍 Mental Health Rep
✨Protective MMC
🤍 Ex Social Media Influencer X Ex Bronc Rider
✨ Moustache Riding (yep I liked this one)

Release date for DFTC is 22nd of January, make sure you pick it up!!!

Every once in a while, you stumble upon a book so exquisitely written that it feels like you’ve been given a front row seat to something sacred…a rare, breathtaking connection. A love so pure, so tender, and so impossibly sweet that it seeps into your bones and leaves you in full on tears before you even realize they’ve fallen. This… this was one of those books.

“I feared I might turn into a puddle, right here and now, and all I had to blame was the past and these damn pregnancy hormones.”

Oh no, sweetheart. You weren’t melting because of hormones. You were melting because of him. Because this man…THIS precious, protective MAN, is nothing short of an angel sent from heaven. He loves Parker with a depth that’s unconditional, unwavering, and utterly consuming that not even a decade apart and a baby that’s not his could change it. Every word he spoke, every gentle action, every quiet moment of devotion made my heart ache in the most beautiful way. I melted right along with her.

Those flashbacks cut me even deeper, peeling back layers of the story until my heart was in pieces. Additionally, Beckham’s grief didn’t just resonate with me…I felt it in my bones, because I’ve lived that pain myself. I just wanted to give this incredible man a huge hug.

I can’t even put into words how much I loved this. IT. WAS. AMAZING!!!

The final book in The Bell Buckle series and hands down my favorite of them all. Parker and Beckham’s second chance will steal your heart. Such a cute story with lots of pining and yearning.

Small Town Cowboy
Not His Baby
Found Family
It’s Always Been You
Spicy
Suspense

Beckham’s first love, Parker, returns to their hometown and she’s pregnant and needing a place to stay. He’s there to help her and he’s not afraid to beg to show her he wants to be a part of her life again. Throw in a little suspense and a whole lotta spice and it’s an exciting ending to a great series.

I could not put this one down. Beckham was a man obsessed. Instantly protective over Parker the second she got back into town. I loved how they picked up so naturally like they haven’t been apart for so many years. The yearning was EVERYTHING. You will swoon over all the caretaking in this book. The man baked her a gender reveal cake way after she knew the gender of the baby just because he didn’t want her to feel like she missed out on any of these milestones. That’s just one example.

If you love cowboys and small towns then you need to take a chance on an underrated indie author and read Karley Brenna’s Bell Buckle Series.

What an emotional ride. This was a beautiful book. I loved it! Beckham and Parker were destined to be together no matter what life threw in their way. I found many times I was tearing up especially with Beckham’s POV. This book makes you believe in love in all aspects of life and makes you believe that if you are meant for one another life will find a way to bring you back together.
This was the first book I read in this interconnected series and I am super excited to go back and read everyone else’s story in the Bronson family!

Thanks to the author for an eARC of this book 🫶

I absolutely ate this book up! It was a very emotional read for me. This book had me tearing up so much. (we will blame the pregnancy hormones) Both Beckham and Parker’s stories were so moving and beautiful. Their banter had me kicking my feet the whole book. I loved everything about them! I believe being pregnant made this book 10 times better because I could relate with Parker so much and everything Beckham did or said made my heart burst.

Received an arc copy from the Twisted tales pr and author Karley Brenna.

If small town romance is your vibe then Read this!!

The story follows Beck and Parker. This is a second chance, small town ex rodeo storyline. Pregnancy trope regarding Parker. The twist in the middle to end of the book - chefs kiss and the way the story advocates for mental health awareness 💙 is amazing. Also, the flash family aspect was a good take on the whole situation. The fash backs were helpful and gave the characters a deep level with the current timeline.

When I signed up for this, I didnt realise it was part of a series but wow now even reading one story has made me want to read the rest by Karley Brenna and I cant wait to see what other books she produces in the future.

I highly recommend this book, and it was a pleasure to read .

Beckham Bronson has returned to Bell Buckle, a changed man. After the tragic death of his best friend in a car accident, he withdraws from everyone around him, suffocated by guilt and haunted by the belief that he should have been the one to die. Beckham doesn’t think he deserves happiness, or even a future, until fate places Parker Summerhill back in his life. Seeing the woman he once loved awakens something in him he thought was lost forever: hope. Parker returns to Bell Buckle for her father’s funeral, a man she fled years earlier to escape his abuse. Leaving town meant leaving Beckham, the one person who ever made her feel safe. Now she’s back, pregnant, alone, and abandoned by the child’s father, with no clear plan for what comes next. Her vulnerability is heartbreaking, yet her determination to build a better life for her son speaks volumes about her strength. When Beckham offers Parker a place to stay, the proximity forces them to confront both their past and their unresolved feelings. Living together allows old emotions to resurface, but it also gives them the space to heal, together. Their reconnection feels organic and deeply earned, rooted in a love that never truly disappeared. As Beckham becomes part of Parker’s daily life, her unborn son begins to pull him out of his grief, giving him purpose and a reason to keep going. When danger threatens Parker, Beckham’s fear of loss resurfaces, but this time, the stakes are higher. He’s no longer willing to let fear dictate his choices. His determination to protect Parker and her son cements his growth and proves just how far he’s come.

Beckham is a deeply relatable MMC because his grief is raw, consuming, and painfully realistic. The weight of those endless what ifs has stripped him of any belief that he deserves happiness, love, or a future of his own. He isolates himself not because he doesn’t care, but because caring feels dangerous, loving someone means risking another devastating loss. Through Parker, Beckham slowly learns that choosing joy doesn’t erase the past or dishonor the friend he lost. Instead, allowing himself to love becomes a form of healing, a way to honor life rather than punish himself for surviving. Loving Parker and her child gives him purpose, grounding him in the present and reminding him that he is still allowed to build something meaningful, even after unimaginable loss. Parker, meanwhile, is a quietly strong and resilient FMC whose entire life has been shaped by survival. Escaping an abusive home forced her to grow up fast, teaching her to rely only on herself and never ask for more than she thinks she deserves. Pregnancy only deepens that instinct; she’s determined not to burden Beckham with her past, her trauma, or her unborn child. When Beckham instinctively refers to her baby as his, it becomes a turning point for her, one that cracks open the walls she’s spent years building.

In conclusion, I gave this book 5 stars because Down for the Count is a deeply emotional and beautifully written story about fate, forgiveness, and the healing power of love. Beckham and Parker’s journey is one of growth and second chances, proof that even when life pulls people apart through heartbreak, fear, and circumstance, true love has a way of finding its way back home. As the final installment in the Bell Buckle series, this story feels especially poignant. It brings everything full circle, offering a satisfying and heartfelt conclusion that honors both the past and the future. Beckham and Parker remind readers that love isn’t always easy or perfect, but when it’s real, it’s worth fighting for.

I didn’t want to put this book down, and stayed up way too late to finish it. It is bittersweet, because I love this series and the Bronson family, and this is the last book in Bell Buckle. Please check the content warnings before picking this one up, aside from the little bit of suspense around the 80-ish% mark, it is a heavy story that confronts grief and depression head on. There is absolutely a happy ending, and though it takes a little bit of time for the MCs to fully be on the same page and let the fear and rules go, Beckham (MMC) is all in from the start. Parker (FMC) is his other half, his soulmate and the one who got away, and now she is back in town with no real plan and a baby to prepare for. He isn’t going to let her go (unless she really wants to) a second time. The yearning is so good and I loved the couple of flashbacks to when they were teens before everything broke down.

Beckham steps up from the start and shows Parker through his actions that he is all in for both her and her baby. He knows logically that the baby isn’t his, but as their relationship progresses (really picks back up where it left off ten years ago) it’s not a question, he is the baby’s dad. I cried when their son’s name was revealed in the epilogue, and I love how the author set that up and how everything really came full circle. We see the other Bronson siblings and their significant others throughout this book, but it can be read as a standalone if desired. That said, this book perfectly wraps up the series and it was so fun seeing everyone living their happily ever afters (and that helped to break up the heavier subject matter).

If you love rules that are made (to be immediately broken because they both knew it was futile), men who step up for babies that aren’t biologically theirs, grief and mental health representation for MMCs, and small town cowboys I highly recommend this book. As I mentioned before there is some suspense in this story, but it really isn’t the main focus. That said, the foundation was laid earlier in the story so it didn’t come out of left field. I’m sad it’s over but I have no regrets about devouring it in one day.

📖 Down for the Count by Karley Brenna

“‘Anything for you, Parker.’” And I meant it. Anything. My heart. My soul. She could have it all. Hell, she already did.” 🧡🥹

Y’all I literally had to give myself a couple of days to recover my emotions after finishing this last book in the Bell Buckle series. I was not expecting to cry as much as I did. This series has been the best kind of rollercoaster and knowing it’s come to an end has me all in my feels.

“Even cowboys cry, son.” He squeezed. “Only the brave ones can accept that.”

This second chance romance started off aiming for my emotions right from the first chapter. Beckham Bronson had only ever loved one woman and she left and never came back. A decade later and now he is a shell of the person he once was after a devastating loss. Now she’s back in town, pregnant with another man’s baby.

Beckham honestly broke my heart. His grief was such a tangible emotion throughout the book. Regardless of what he was going through, he literally didn’t hesitate for a second to prioritize Parker’s safety & happiness. This man literally stepped up in every way possible to care for her and the baby. The phrase “head over boots” in love, truly embodies Beck Bronson.

“At the same time, she was bringing me back. Rooting me to the present and showing me light could be found, even when my head was stuck in a pit of darkness.”

I loved Parker. Her childhood was something she had to “survive” versus something she could look back on happily. Her one bright light back then was Beck. He was sweet on her then and he was next level perfect to her in the present. She had to run when she was old enough to do so, but her heart always missed Beckham.

“Ride my face, baby.”

Beck & Parker’s chemistry is the stuff literal ‘wet’ dreams are made of. 🤣🤭 From stache’ rides to epic level of caretaking, these two will leave you seriously blushing at their antics!

“I could taste her for a million years and still never be satisfied. With her, I always craved more. With her, I could drown and never wish to come back up for air. With her, I was whole.”

The ending of this book had me sobbing. It was the perfect way to show how much Beckham was able to heal with Parker back in his life. Get the tissues ready, y’all, Karley Brenna left her heart in Bell Buckle, and I think I did too.

“It’s a good life, Garrett. I can’t wait to tell you all about it when I see you again.”

Stars:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐️
Tropes:🌶🌶🌶
Tropes: second chance, highschool sweethearts, unplanned pregnancy, another mans baby, its always been you, grief and loss,

I just finished Down for the Count by Karley Brenna, and my heart is absolutely full! If you are looking for a story that combines the "grumpy x sunshine" trope with deep emotional stakes and incredible chemistry, look no further.

I fell in love with the protagonists immediately. Brenna does a fantastic job of making them feel like real people with real fears, and their growth throughout the story felt earned and authentic. The story follows Parker as she returns to her hometown for her father’s funeral; consequently, the book explores themes of grief and processing the loss of a parent. Parker reflects on a childhood that wasn't always easy, including emotional scars from her past. The plot also centers around an unexpected pregnancy and the anxieties and physical changes that come with it.

Then there is Beckham, who is trying to find his way and a purpose for living after losing his friend. When the love of his life enters the picture, she gives him everything he ever wanted. To Beckham, nothing is ever too much for Parker. He's the prefect book boyfriend

The tension in this book is "chef’s kiss." The way the relationship builds from mutual hesitation to a "can’t live without you" connection was perfectly paced. While there are plenty of sweet and steamy moments, the book doesn’t shy away from the characters' pasts and vulnerabilities. This depth made the "Happily Ever After" feel that much more rewarding.

Even though the story deals with heavy topics like grief and loss, the author handles them with such grace and tenderness that the overall tone remains hopeful and sweet. Karley Brenna’s voice is engaging and easy to read; I found myself flying through the chapters because I just couldn't put it down!

This book is a warm hug in novel form. It’s a beautiful reminder of how healing love can be and how important it is to have someone in your corner. I’m already planning to dive into more of Karley Brenna’s work because this was an absolute 5-star read for me.

I would like to thank Karley Brenna for the ARC in exchange of an honest review.
Unfortunately it took me longer to finish the book due to work reasons but here is my review!

This book absolutely wrecked me in the best way. It’s one of those books where you look up at the end and realise you’ve just been gone for a few hours.

I’ve liked the Bell Buckle books all along, but this one hit different. Parker and Beckham feel like real people with messy, complicated history, and you can feel every year they spent apart hanging between them. Their second chance doesn’t feel easy or convenient; it feels earned, and that made me root for them so hard.

Parker completely stole the show for me. She’s grieving, pregnant, and just trying to keep her head above water, and none of that is brushed aside for the sake of a cute romance. Watching her slowly let herself be loved again—while still protecting her heart and her baby—was honestly gorgeous. And Beckham… he is down on his knees for her in every possible way. Protective, patient, a little broken himself, and still choosing her over and over.

What really got me were the heavy moments. This book doesn’t tiptoe around depression, grief, or the way life just keeps moving when you feel stuck in place. There’s no magical fix, just two people figuring out how to keep breathing, how to ask for help, and how to build something new out of everything they’ve lost. I cried more than once, and there’s a scene toward the end (you’ll know it when you get there) that absolutely destroyed me in the best, most healing way.

On top of all the emotions, you still get everything you want from a small‑town, second‑chance romance: found family, a noisy, loving Bronson clan, “not his baby” pregnancy, a little suspense, and that slow, simmering tension that makes every touch feel like a payoff. By the time I finished, I wanted to hug the book and then immediately re‑read my favourite scenes.
Five stars, no question. If you’ve been with this series from the start, this is the perfect send‑off. And if this is your first trip to Bell Buckle, don’t be surprised if you close the book already planning which Bronson story to pick up next.

🧡 Down For The Count 🧡
Coming 1.22.26
I don’t have the words to do this book justice. The entire series was fun and spicy.
This book? This book was soulful and beautiful. We get to know Beck the bronc rider a little more in each book and are begging for his story. Well it delivered!
There’s first love. Reunion. Not his baby.
Beckham cares for Parker when she has no where else to go. He doesn’t even hesitate. He barrels right in and picks back up where they left off, no questions asked to ensure she’s safe.
Do you remember your first love?
Your first pregnancy?
Fighting your way out of a lonely, broken home and a small town to try to make something of yourself?
I felt the emotions in this book.🥹
The way he loves her is worth the reading recommendation alone.
The way she’s brought into his big family & how his family loves on her when she doesn’t feel deserving.
He lifts her up during in the most trying time of her life. And he’s not without scars, she unknowingly brings him back to life by giving him a purpose and a renewed sense of self worth.
Now, add in a Cowboy personality. A Cowboy book just hits different. They fall hard and love like no other.
They’re a different kind of breed. A strong man but soft for her. A tough man but gentle for her. A possessive man but protective of her.
Now, add in a baby he loves unequivocally, as his own, because he loves her.
It was such an experience of true, unconditional love.
It’s sweet and its spicy. The whole “we shouldn’t” but both want to, the angst, the flirting, the steam when they give in. It’s 🔥! 🌶️🌶️🌶️
This has the perfect balance of a little past but mostly present timeline, which is my favorite for a rekindled romance.
This book reminds you to find joy even in the hardest moments, to appreciate the slow, simple things in life and to remember who you loves you no matter what. 💕
You can binge the entire series or dive right into this and will still enjoy it immensely! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

*Down for the Count* by Karley Brenna
Bell Buckle Book 5

Spice Level: 🌶🌶🌶
This could be a 2.5 pepper book, but the scenes were a little more frequent than in the previous books. However, they don’t get to third base for quite a while.

This. Quote. It basically could be a review all on its own. “If Parker wanted to dream, I’d count the fucking sheep just so she could.”

This is the first series I’ve finished this quickly in a long time. I thought I loved Reed and Brandy. But omg, Beckham and Parker. Folks…wow. These two were like fated mates on steroids. I swear they swallowed magnets (that’s probably not something people should do, so please don’t do that), but they were so drawn to each other it was insane. Their chemistry. Wow. I’m not a pregnancy trope person, but man, I’m kind of getting on board with this whole not his baby thing, especially if it’s done as well as this was.

Okay so. B + P were endgame during their teens. The whole town knew it. They knew it. They weren’t even officially a couple, but they were off-limits to everyone else. But they also needed to spread their wings. So they went their separate ways. It broke them, but they both knew it had to happen. Beckham is back in town bc his best friend died, and it destroyed him. Parker is back bc her dad died, and while he sucked, she had to bury him. But she’s also pregnant with nowhere to go next (she’s a wanderer). So Beckham is like, well, obviously you’ll live with me, and I’ll be daddy to your baby. But Parker is also 1 foot out the door the whole time bc she doesn’t want to burden him. OH! And I was also okay with the fact that this was a low and slow burn. Like sloooow burn, and when it burned, it burned low, but ugh, the fire was just so hot still. I’m still undecided whether book 4 or 5 was my favorite. Ask me again tomorrow. But also, what does that say about a series when it’s so good you get to books 4 and 5 within a month, and THEY end up your favorite? Fun town, fun MCs, fun family, fun plots. Just overall, really here for this one.
