Andrea “Andi” Sheffler retired from work as an intelligence analyst, but leaving the navy and her career behind has only brought anxiety about what the future could possibly hold. Plus, her kids are grown, and the stoic analyst is restless—until her friends’ book club pulls her into a mystery more twisted than any fiction they’ve read.
Club member Lana Kidwell is stunning, wealthy, and desperate to find her missing husband. He’s a former Department of Defense manager, and his disappearance is anything but ordinary. Did he launch a consulting firm? Join a governmental classified task force? Get tangled up in espionage? All caution aside, Andi plunges in, trailing clues that lead to hidden burner phones, coded names, and a betrayal of trust that cuts…a little too close to home.
Suddenly, friends reveal hidden motives, lies unravel, and control slips away as she races toward a suspenseful, blood-soaked climax. One misstep and she may be fighting for more than just a missing man’s life.
Perfect for fans of Richard Osman’s amateur sleuths or Karen Cleveland’s high-stakes spy thrillers.
What I love about the author's characters is their real-life complexity. Smart and confused. Capable and needy. Funny and intense. Irritating and lovable. She covers all sides and masterfully recreates the dynamics and enduring appeal of life's great girlfriend groups. Layer in the mystery, suspense, action and blood ... pin it down with the author's exhaustive life experience and knowledge ... and well it's an irresistible read with a heart pounding ending.
Great character development. I couldn’t put it down.. felt like these could be my friends. Also loved the tour of the DC area.. Round Robin bar.. Pershing Park. Fantastic first novel.. I’m excited for the next with Andi’s research service 😃
