This book is filled with wisdom that will help you stay calmer when you feel anxious. It has fascinating facts about how your mind and body is designed by God, and practical ways you can choose peace over anxiety. I appreciated her personal stories and the honest, comforting tone she used throughout the book. The section on expanding your capacity for goodness has been especially helpful for me.

I was grateful to receive an advance copy of this book from the author for review.

I tend to approach books on rest with a bit of skepticism as I've found that many are written with the assumption that I can simply offload real responsibilities, including many I didn't necessarily choose, and enjoy the rest that God enjoyed on the seventh day. But "I Don't Have to Hold It All Together" is rooted in the reality that we're no longer in Eden, and the practices it suggests are written for people living in between that first garden and heaven.

In this in-between place, we often seek to build our own Eden. As the author explains, "In this post-fall world, we have taken the gift of stewardship and twisted it into the desire to be in control. We have taken the gift of resting in our Creator for His provision and twisted it into our definition of comfort—things that give us temporary satisfaction and a false sense of peace."

Early on, I saw my own life reflected in the author's story, which gave me confidence that she understands what it's like to struggle with anxiety and perfectionism. She addresses seven resources that can help readers cultivate peace, including time in nature, belonging and rest. For each, she takes time to share the biblical (and often scientific as well) "why" behind the practice, and then give practical tips--for example, how to make rest actually restful. In addition, each ends with reflection questions to help readers wrestle with each topic before God.

The book concludes with a reminder of the hope of the next Eden. I finished it feeling seen and encouraged--both that this life can't feel like Eden (and I'm not responsible to make it so) and that I have tools to help me embrace peace in the in-between.

I Don’t Have to Hold It All Together felt like sitting across from a trusted friend who gently reminds you that you were never meant to carry everything on your own. Nichole’s writing is sincere, honest, kind, and deeply comforting without ever feeling shallow or cliché.

What resonated with me most was the way she talked about anxiety, overwhelm, and control with so much honesty. So many books rush to “fix” those feelings, but this one created space to actually acknowledge them while still pointing readers toward hope and peace in God. I found myself underlining multiple passages because they put words to things I’ve felt but struggled to explain.

The message that stayed with me most was the reminder that peace doesn’t come from managing everything perfectly. As someone who easily falls into striving and overthinking, I needed the gentle invitation throughout this book to loosen my grip and trust God more deeply instead of trying to hold everything together myself.

I also appreciated how practical the book felt. Nichole balances biblical truth, personal stories, and encouragement in a way that feels approachable and grounding. Nothing felt performative or overly polished; it felt real.

I’d recommend this book to anyone walking through anxiety, burnout, overwhelm, perfectionism, or emotional exhaustion, especially Christians who are tired of feeling like they always have to be “fine.”

If I had to describe this book in one sentence, I’d say: This book feels like a deep breath for overwhelmed souls who are tired of carrying more than they were meant to hold.

This book is perfect for anyone looking for more of God's peace in their lives, but especially for women who are overachievers, burned out, and/or silently wrestling with anxiety.

Nichole Suvar writes with the wisdom of someone who has personally faced anxiety for many years and through it has learned to lean on God. However, she also brings the mental health perspective (as a former counselor) and encourages those who need professional help to seek it out. Her advice is measured and thoughtful, and her writing flows from what is obviously a deep and loving lifelong relationship with Christ.

One of my favorite chapters in this book, "Get Outside: The Garden Right Outside Your Door," is an example of Suvar's balance of research-backed mental health practices and spiritual wisdom. She compares our need for vitamin D to our need for Christ. In her usual witty tone, she writes, "we all benefit from daily doses of sun exposure and Son exposure" (p. 101). Just one of many fantastic insights that are packed onto each page!

As someone who continues to live with anxiety (though it is not as bad as it once was), this book was encouraging and healing. Everything Suvar writes has pushed me towards God rather than into downward spirals of shame, which is much more than I can say for so called "self help" books. I would highly recommend this book to my Christian friends and church family.

Thank you to the author for providing an advance copy in exchange for an honest review!

I Don't Have to Hold It All Together: Cultivating the Peace of Eden When Feeling Overwhelmed, by Nichole Suvar is an incredible book with so much hope and encouragement weaved throughout the chapters. This book is perfect for anyone who struggles with anxiety, perfectionism, and simply being overwhelmed in day-to-day life travels. As someone who tends to be a "fixer", I know that I am not in control, yet God is, and this book reminds me of how I can trust in His provision and care for all things. He is Faithful!

In the book, Nichole addresses seven resources that can help readers cultivate peace in their journey of life. These seven areas include spending time in nature, belonging, goodness, boundaries, communion with God, purpose and rest. For each topic, she takes time to share the biblical (and often scientific as well) "why" behind the practice and then give practical tips on how to reflect back on Eden and encapsulate these seven areas as a practice of following after God. Also, each chapter ends with reflection questions to help readers wrestle with each topic before God.

The encouraging, uplifting, gentle, and heartfelt messages in I Don’t Have to Hold It All Together will help guide countless people into finding and living a life of freedom, rest, and joy. As it says in her forward, you truly are safe in this book.

I highly recommend this book and thank Nichole Suvar and Tyndale for the Advanced review copy of the book. All opinions are my own.

I've experienced overwhelm in many areas of my life, leaving me aching for peace. I Don’t Have to Hold It All Together by Nichole Suvar felt honest, grounding, and deeply relatable. What resonated with me most was the reminder that anxiety often grows from the pressure to manage, predict, and carry everything ourselves. Throughout the book, Nichole writes with vulnerability and gentleness, creating space for readers to breathe rather than feel condemned for struggling.

One of the things that stayed with me most was the way she connected peace not to perfect circumstances, but to surrender and trust in God’s presence within the uncertainty. The book challenged me to reflect on how often I try to hold things together through control rather than dependence on God.

I would recommend this book to anyone who feels weary from carrying too much emotionally, mentally, or spiritually, especially those navigating anxiety, overwhelm, or the constant pressure to keep everything together.

Reading Nichole's book felt like a compassionate invitation to loosen my grip and rediscover peace in God’s care because I don't have to hold it all together!

This book is perfect for anyone who struggles with anxiety and/or feeling overwhelmed with life’s circumstances.

I suffer from CPTSD and anxiety is part of my daily life. I felt God speaking directly to me through the words Nicole shared in this book, words I needed to hear and take to heart.

I cannot control everything. I need to learn to rest and leave the control in God’s hands. He has always been with me and always faithful, therefore I can trust Him.

My identity is not in what I do, but who I am in Christ. With being disabled and chronically ill, I am mostly housebound, so remembering I am loved just as I am and not for what I do is something I need to do more often.

I have been challenged to be intentional in looking for the goodness of God in my every day life. I can fully rest in His goodness and allow myself to soak in His presence.

The messages Nicole laid out in this book are Biblically sound, drawing us back to Eden where everything was perfect, lovely, and just right with our Father.

I am grateful to have read this book and definitely will be rereading it again. I invite you to join me in finding rest in the goodness of God even in the midst of overwhelm.

As a recovering perfectionist, my greatest struggles revolve around trying to remain in control of my circumstances. When this desire for control is at its worst, my life is marked by anxiety, stress, and a lack of peace in God.

This book is an invitation to step out of the cycle of perfectionism and anxiety and into God's rest. Furthermore, God's rest doesn't involve ceasing all activity; God leads us to rest in him while we undertake the work of our days. I am grateful for this very practical guide about how to approach my overwhelming moments differently.

I especially appreciated the seven resources that can lead us into greater rest. Nichole writes about spending time in nature, seeking belonging, embracing goodness, setting healthy boundaries, pursuing communion with God, finding purpose, and rethinking rest. I will be returning to these practices in the future as I aim to walk in God's peace!

I Don’t Have to Hold It All Together is a sacred invitation to let go of stress and overwhelm and slip into the peace found when we let go and let God. It is a journey not only back to the peace Adam and Eve enjoyed in the Garden of Eden as they walked with God in the cool of the day, but also a journey to find the pieces of Eden still available in our here and now. Discover the freedom that comes from losing your grip on trying to retain control and trusting that God is in control. This is a book I will never forget and a must read for anyone trying to unload from the pressures of life and don’t know how. The words that fill the pages will energize your spirit and enlighten your heart when overwhelm has left you feeling battered and worn. A definite must-read for the tired and weary from laboring to hold it all together.

I knew within the first few pages that it was something special.

Nichole Suvar writes with warmth, authenticity, and a deep understanding of the struggles many of us face when we try to create peace through perfectionism, control, or endless striving. Rather than writing from theory alone, she shares from lived experience, and that comes through clearly on every page.

What has stood out most to me is how inviting her writing feels. I never felt like I was reading a lesson; I felt like I was walking alongside a trusted friend who was gently pointing me back to God’s presence and peace.

This book doesn’t just teach truth—it helps you feel held by it.

If you’ve ever felt exhausted from trying to hold everything together, I believe you’ll find encouragement, hope, and practical wisdom in these pages.

I am taking my time reading this book because every chapter gives me so much to think about. I feel like the author understands the struggles that I and so many women face in our world full of distractions and expectations. I appreciate that she shares some of her own life experiences along with truths from the Bible. Her perspective on life in the Garden of Eden gave me a lot to think about and a better understanding of the struggles I have experienced in my life. I was challenged to think about how I am trying to trust myself instead trusting God when I feel afraid. I was challenged to slow down take time for quiet so I can be more connected to God. I highlighted thoughts to go back to on almost every page and know I will benefit from reading this book more than once. I highly recommend this book to anyone who struggles with overwhelm, fear, and trusting God with the unknown.

For years, I lived enslaved to anxiety — and oh, how I wish I had this book back then.

I Don’t Have to Hold It All Together by Nichole J. Suvar is filled with wisdom, grace, and practical steps for the woman who feels overwhelmed, anxious, or exhausted from trying to carry more than God ever asked her to hold. I love how Nichole takes her readers back to the peace of Eden and then helps us see glimpses of it now in our everyday lives.

If you live under the weight of shame and guilt from comments that shout, “Stop being anxious,” or words that make you feel like your faith isn’t enough, just know this: you are safe within these pages. This book is a beautiful reminder that we do not have to hold it all together because God is already holding us.

It’s a must-read for anyone suffering from anxiety!

A Powerful Reminder to Surrender Control and Trust God

I Don’t Have to Hold It All Together is for the one who has struggled or struggles with anxiety, whether as a diagnosis or circumstantially. In a tender and compassionate way, the author examines the resources God has given us since the beginning of the world to help us find peace, like communion with God, nature, purpose, rest, and more. The reflections at the end of each chapter help us release those things we try to cling to and control, and instead surrender them to God. The book is a powerful reminder that we have the power to intentionally pursue the ideals of Eden that God placed around us, and to purposely place the control in His hands.

As someone who has struggled with anxiety my entire life, this book really resonates with me. I am Nichole as a kid being told “pray about it; don’t worry about it” and feeling even more anxious since i worry through the prayer. This book has really helped to reframe my thoughts and I know I’ll come back to it over and over again throughout the years. The Reflection sections really bring the message full circle and makes me sit in my thoughts, although I haven’t been able to bring myself to write them down.

This book is for anyone striving for perfection and control, knowing they should give it to God but unsure how.

This book is a biblical formula for finding our place with the God of all creation. It is a sweet and raw reminder that God did not intend for us to do this life on our own. Nichole has a way of pointing out what the world would have us do but in reality what God has called us to. Anxiety and depression and bad words in society but Nichole shows us that they are real and with the concept of Eden we are able to face those things. Nichole gives an outstanding job of showing us what to do and giving us the tools to do while giving it all to God. She shows that God has a purpose for us that starts with being completely and wholeheartedly aligned with Him. I would definitely recommend this book.

I found “I Don’t Have To Hold It All Together” to be a much-needed and helpful resource for those who are battling anxiety and overwhelm.

Most of my life I’ve had an underlying sense of low-grade anxiety, not paralyzing, but present in everything I do. Much of my anxiety was based on my performance and people-pleasing. This book offers spiritual insight and practical tools to regain peace in our lives.

Within its pages, the author shares her personal struggle with anxiety while offering biblical wisdom to cultivate a life of peace and comfort. I highly recommend it to anyone living with anxiety and overwhelm.

This book is so helpful! I appreciated the author's honesty in sharing her life and lessons learned. If you're feeling overwhelmed and your soul is craving peace, this book will help you see the solution (Jesus Christ) and inspire you to seek Him for the comfort and healing you need. Nichole (the author) shows the reader throughout this book how Jesus, who the Bible says is the "Prince of Peace", is everything you need to survive and thrive while living on Earth. She also reminds the readers who are believers in God that our home is in Heaven and one day, God will restore us to the peace and safety of Eden. I loved this book! So good.

I Don't Have to Hold It All Together takes a brilliant look at struggles such as anxiety, overwhelm, and the need for control through the lens of God's original design for peace in the Garden of Eden.

As Nichole Suvar reminds us, we cannot return to Eden, but we can carry its truths with us. Through biblical insight, practical wisdom, and personal vulnerability, she invites readers to exchange striving for trust and discover the peace God intended from the beginning.

If you are longing for true peace beyond our culture's broken pursuit of it, this book is for you.

This book offers a fresh perspective on experiencing God's peace despite anxiety. We can experience His peace, like that of Eden before the fall. Nichole writes as a safe friend you'd seek wisdom from. She's relatable and gentle, and truly gets the reality - and the tension - of having anxiety as a Christian. This is important for the reader who opens this book feeling overwhelmed, anxious, and longing to be understood.

Nichole's teaching is refreshing and thought-provoking, and extends beyond a typical to-do list you might find elsewhere. This book is now a staple of my bookshelf.

As someone who has dealt with anxiety, this book offers hope. It takes us back to God’s perfect design for us in the Garden of Eden and the insight that offers on managing anxiety with God’s tools. I had never thought about how these truths were introduced in Eden, and Nichole brings them out in ways I had not fully thought through before. I love the practical examples, which ultimately bring our focus back to God. I’m excited to reread this alongside other women!

This book arrived at exactly the right time for me. It challenged some of my habits of striving and self-reliance while helping me embrace rest, trust, and a more intimate connection with God. I appreciated that the message was grounded in faith without feeling preachy, and the reflections gave me opportunities to slow down and examine where anxiety had been taking up more space than it needed to.
