Aw, I love Pizza and Taco!

Mom said “No” to scary movies so sleepover friends had to resort to telling scary stories. Three very good stories!!!
“The Gerkin on the Road” was reminiscent of a story I grew up listening to multiple times.

First sentence: Taco! Taco! Taco! Pizza! Pizza! Pizza!

Premise/plot: Taco and Pizza are starring in their eleventh adventure together. In this graphic novel for young readers--early chapter book, early graphic novel--Pizza and Taco are hosting a sleepover. The two are making all the plans for the sleepover activities before their guests arrived. Scary movies are out--because of parental rules--but telling scary stories is not. Will anyone sleep at this sleepover?

My thoughts: I thought this was a decent entry into the series. Taco and Pizza are hanging out with their friends. (Some of whom we've met briefly before.) There are puns and more puns. The biggest put of this one is having them dance to Taylor Swiss music. I think adults who read children's books may be tired of this series, HOWEVER, to young readers who love to pick up a series and READ, read, read, perhaps having this many books in the series is a blessing. It is important to remember that children's books are meant to be read and enjoyed by children.

Even though this is the eleventh title in this graphic novel series, I can't see myself growing tired of the main characters--Pizza and Taco--with their amusing personalities, relatable experiences, and their reactions to life's normal moments. In this installment, the best friends have planned a sleepover, invited some foodie friends, and figured out lots of cool activities. Even though scary movies are forbidden, no one said anything about ghost stories. Pizza and Taco are just too cool to be scared by a made-up story, of course. Well, maybe not. As usual, the book's size and those adorable illustrations featuring Cookie, a dog named biscuit, and introducing new characters, Coach Donut and Little Gerkin, look just like the foods themselves. Also, giggle-inducing elements such as the characters bonding over being a "Swissy" rather than a Swifty and listening to music on "Totify" instead of Spotify add to the story's appeal. These books are just so much fun to read while noticing surprise details.

Listened to this audiobook with my first grader. She loved it because she listened to it three times. She thought it was scary with the ghost story. She asked me what gherkins was. I had no idea but based on the google search, gherkins are little cucumbers haha.. i always just called it little cucumbers. I'm glad to learn something from a kid's book!

Taco and Pizza are having a sleepover. They made lists of guests and lists of supplies and what to do. Since it's the scariest sleepover ever, there were ghost stories! Mom said no scary movies and they listened which was good influence for readers.

Thank you PRHAudio for the complimentary audiobook.

Taco and Pizza are so excited they're having a sleepover and inviting all their friends. They want it to be scary but they aren't allowed to watch scary movies...what can they do? They decide to tell scary stories. Each story gets scarier than the last one as the kids try to out scare each other. Maybe they'll scare you too.
