Rate this book
This holiday season, the truth will finally come out.

Valentina has always had a complicated relationship with Banon, the son of the minotaur woman her father married. He’s drop dead gorgeous, full of himself, and football runs in his blood. Now in college, she thinks she’s finally moved on from her childhood crush.

Though he tries to hide it, Banon has hungered after Valentina for too long. She’s consumed his every thought for years, even as he put distance between them. When the dam breaks over the holidays and the truth emerges, will Banon and Valentina’s burning cravings finally erupt into a fire?

This is a short, steamy holiday-themed monster romance novella about one nerdy goth girl and a football-playing minotaur. Secrets will be spilled and even more secrets kept, leading to an adorable HEA.

If you see this, no you didn’t. LOL
I picked this up expecting a quick, fun holiday monster romance, but it just did not land for me. The setup had potential with old feelings finally bubbling up and a secret or two ready to surface, but the story moved so fast that I never felt fully connected to anything. And for step-siblings, it did not feel taboo at all, which took away a lot of the tension I expected. Also… the ages mentioned that the attraction started did NOT sit well with me 😭 just no

It was not badly written, it just felt shallow and pretty forgettable for me. If someone wants a super quick holiday read with some spice, it might still work. But I wasn’t impressed.

I wanted to love this book, but both Valentina and Bannon were immature and annoying to me. Their story was cute towards the end, when they started communicating and were forced to make some changes.

Spice: 4/5

Triggers: voyeurism, taboo relationship, mentions of parent death, mentions of parent abandonment

This was a fun, quick read. It was super emotional too - Val and Banon had a lot of baggage to work through, not least of which is that they are stepsiblings.

There was plenty of spice too, and you'll feel the heat when you read this.

I recommend this if you enjoy sweet, fun, quick monster romances with "its always been you" vibes.

Longing for the Minotaur is a quick, steamy, forbidden/taboo step-sibling monster novella that centers around Thanksgiving. While I like the character development and the forbidden relationship aspect, I feel as though there's some grit/angst missing. I felt all the feels with these two characters, but I was hoping for a tad more drama, maybe? I'm not sure precicesly, but something felt like it was missing. I did have a good time and read this super quickly. I highly recommend if you're looking for something cozy and steamy this Thanksgiving week.

Cute and smutty holiday-set romance between Valentina, a human, and Banon, her Minotaur stepbrother. Not much plot other than he and his friends bullied her in school to cover up deeper feelings he harbored towards her. After an emotional discussion about their mutual attraction, they begin seeing each other on the sly, worried about how their parents and society will react.

I received an advance reader copy from the author, and I’m sharing my honest review.

Thank you Lyonne for the e-ARC of Longing for the Minotaur. AND for adding me to her ARC team 💖🫶🏻

Another Lyonne Riley read that I positively DEVOURED.

Valentina (Tina/Val) has been pining for her Minotaur stepbrother since her dad married his mum, when she was a pre-teen.

Banon made her life hell in high school when he didn’t stop his friends from teasing her relentlessly and despite their age gap - and the fact they were only at school together one year before he graduated, his reputation outlived his tenure; ensuring that the remainder of her high school career was hell.

Despite this, she has been in love with him for years. Little did she know that he has also been hopelessly obsessed with her as well; and all actions prior have been an attempt to throw everyone off the scent and avoid his feelings being detected.

When he is forced to reveal how he TRULY feels, will it be the end of their “family” or will they both get their happily ever after?

Val initially comes across as quite cold and a tad hostile; despite clearly being ridiculously attracted to Banon. Val is portrayed as sarcastic but with a softer- more gentle side. Despite this, she is not afraid of sticking up for herself and defending her own happiness. She holds a great deal of resentment towards him for his lack of action in defending her when they were younger. However this all comes to a head when she confronts him and later when he reveals his feelings.

Banon is described as a bit of a meathead who adopted a slight “bully” archetype as a teenager. However, this was a bit of a stretch as he was never directly cruel to Val - or Tina as she was then called; it was more so his lack of action in defending her that led her to believe he was uncaring. In actuality he is a MASSIVE softie (and definitely a himbo) who adores Valentina and has gone out of his way to know everything about her.

I LOVED the relationship between Val and Banon. From the start, the yearning and tension between the main characters was undeniable. They are both OBSESSED with one another - and honestly same. I was surprised that with how they strongly felt towards one another, no one found out sooner. The spice was perfection - while there is plot, this novella is most definitely smut driven, as a culmination of their repressed emotions. And I was obsessed. Lyonne is masterful at writing positively delicious smut; particularly involving minotaur x human relationships and this is no exception.

Marissa and Frank are the parentals in this novella and I adored their interactions with Val and Banon. Marissa is Banon’s widowed, Minotaur mum who marries Frank, Val’s human father. They are almost sickeningly in love and dote on both kids. Despite this, as both Banon and Val were pre-teen/teen respectively when they married, neither oversteps boundaries in regards to their role in their stepchild’s life. They are portrayed as nurturing and loving. It is clear that both Val but ESPECIALLY Banon have a lot of respect for their parents; as it is their sole motivator towards their hesitancy in being honest about their secret relationship. Which causes a bit of a rift between the mc’s.

Overall, this is a fun, quick, smutty read with a touch of taboo. I highly recommend for any monster romance fans looking for a Minotaur romance fast paced read or fans looking to dip their toe into the Lyonne Riley universe!

I need to vent (Lyonne skip this paragraph if you read your reviews) I immediately hated the FMC Val. I’ve never grown to dislike a character so fast in such a short story. Maybe the author intended that?? If so, bravo 👏 Step bro bullied her a little in high school, so yeah that’s shit. But they were both kids. Her carrying that into adulthood and making being judgey and rude to everyone her whole personality…it’s giving unwashed dildo energy. With the fluff stuck to it and everything. I hated her so much I hoped she didn’t get the respectable monster dicking I knew was coming. I hoped she choked on her toast and died at the breakfast table and her whole family gave her a budget funeral. Home girl needs therapy to deal with her bullshit because honestly: what a bitch.

😮‍💨 now I’ve got that out of system: ARC review ⭐️😂

If monster bad, why hot? Naturally the way I ran 🏃🏻‍♀️ to get my sticky book-goblin fingers on this taboo little monster book definitely counted as my week’s cardio. Sure there’s plenty of step-sibling romance books on the market. There’s a ton of monster smut out there too: shifter, orc, spider, naga, alien, possessed Easter bunny costume. You name the critter and it’s out there. I genuinely can’t recall ever reading a step-sibling x monster smut. Ever. And I’ve read one or two 😉 I’ve loved everything I’ve read from this author, but: see above (not you Lyonne) I like it but could not get past the FMCs psychology to love this too.

Anyway, add it to your list, it was a fun little holiday banger that delivered what it promised. I’m sure someone out there will identify with the FMC (sorry in advance)

Genre: Adult Paranormal Romance
Spice: 3/5🌶️
*spice ratings are relative to similar books in the same genre*

The Catalog: F/M, holiday romance, forbidden romance, step-siblings, small age gap, mutual pining, some angst but overall fluffy, grabbing him by the horns, it’s always been you, size difference, making it fit

Synopsis: Valentina has been lusting after her step-brother for longer than she’d like to admit. She knows it’s wrong, impossibe, and forbidden, but not even her shame, or their complicated past, can stop her feelings. Banon has been keeping a secret about his step-sister, but now he feels he must tell her the truth and face the consequences.

Thoughts:
Longing for the Minotaur is a fast-paced, breezy monster romance novella with just the right amount of forbidden feels and holiday vibes; perfect to read the week of Thanksgiving!

Every day that I can recommend a Lyonne Riley story to y’all is a good day! I am a huge fan of all of Lyonne’s works, and I especially appreciate all of her low stakes, easy to enjoy novellas that have such incredible range. This one focuses on a forbidden, taboo relationship between step-siblings that have secretly pined for each other for years. It’s sweet and hopeful, with small moments of angst that give the story some depth.

I thought the MCs were so much fun! A football playing Minotaur is adorable, but it’s also funny and makes a lot of sense, and Valentina is a young woman on the cusp of graduating college, trying to figure things out.

As with most Lyonne romance, you can expect top notch spice involving MMCs with a deliciously deviant size difference, sweet and cozy vibes, and MMCs deeply obsessed with their partners!

This is truly a perfect read for this time of year!

The only reason this didn’t get a full five stars is because I did think that there could have been more emotional intimacy.

Valentina (Val, thank you very much) and Banon were thrust together in high school when their parents got married. Val was just coming into her own as a freshman in high school and her new step brother's teasing set the tone for what would be the worst 4 years of her life. Despite this, she's always harbored a secret crush on Banon. And who wouldn't? He's tall, handsome, and absolutely ripped. It's really too bad he can be so insufferable. But is there more to Banon than she knows?

I hadn't read Lyonne Riley before this, and my wife sent me a link to the ARC request because she said it looked up my alley. SHE WAS RIGHT. I love monsters, I love technically-not-siblings, messy sex...this was just a win all around for me.

I'm new to reading novellas, so I'm still getting used to the length (Val says 'same'). I often find myself wanting just a little bit more. Sometimes stories lean too much into character development and don't leave enough room for a story arc, or there's too much sex so there isn't space to learn who the characters are. I felt like this story managed those splits well. There was enough character development to make everything believable, a full story arc, and some great sex scenes. I have a minor gripe with how truncated the public sex scene was, but that's not what you're coming to the minotaur step-sibling book for. Be real.

Reading and reviewing Lyonne is me being the change I want to see in the world. Society needs more full monster romances. Not just shifters, not just 'technically not human' that's a skinny human with pointy ears, full on muzzles and hair and...monster parts. Thanks so much to Lyonne for a chance to read and review this novella early. I picked up another of her books as soon as I finished this one. Right in my strike zone.

Scandalous, spicy… and weirdly heartfelt? The main trope in this one is usually a hard no for me, but I’ve learned over my time as an ARC reader for Lyonne that she can take me out of my comfort zone and surprise me with what I end up enjoying. Would I seek out other step-sibling content? No. But did I enjoy this short, spicy read that was full of longing and a surprisingly sweet jock minotaur enamored with his goth human stepsister? Yeah, I did. And I would recommend it too because Lyonne’s writing is that good.

Light/vague spoilers below this point (nothing critical but to be safe I’m going to put the spoiler guy here)

Thank you, Lyonne Riley, for the advanced copy! I’m looking forward to how you surprise me next ♥️

Valentina and Banon have always had a rocky relationship. Ever since their parents got together, Banon hasn’t been the brother-figure you would expect to have even if you both didn’t shared any blood. It doesn’t help that Valentina, after meeting for the first time Banon, her step-sibling, has been heads-over-heels for him. Worse of all, she feels Banon is the main reason as to why she got bullied at school. So why after so many years she’s still in love with her step-sibling-bully?

Set during the holidays, old memories and feelings begin to resurface once Banon and Valentina come back home for the holidays.
With so many misunderstandings and hurtful memories from the past, will they be able to make up and come forward with their feelings?

Lyonne delivers once again another delicious risky romance novella. I had no idea that it would take place during the holidays, one of them being Thanksgiving, so me reading the book during said holidays was cozy as hell and made me enjoy it even more.

I’m truly seeing a growth when it comes to character creation-I adore the parents of this story and the main characters are so good too. Love reading of a hot otaku girl and sporty guy. Banon is so sweet and old-fashion in a way, yet Valentina is so fierce that she goes all the way in for what she wants, that makes it work for the two of them. This was like reading a love story of two beings that were meant to be together no matter how they met in life, and makes me think of how difficult of a situation must have been growing up with the person you love while sharing a family, but it is totally understandable and I’m happy with how things end up for them. The sex scenes always deliver - hot hot! Thanks for the arc review and for making this cozy-sexy book!

Banon and Valentina’s story is well written, entertaining, intense, liberating, and super hot. Lyonne Rylie always hits the mark.

I’ve never understood why people think step-siblings can automatically cut off natural attraction and call it dirty if they don’t deny it—I’m speaking of those over 18, as I know my emotions were too high/out of control to maneuver through a relationship like that until i was at least 17+.

This is my worst reading month for far. That was so bad 😂 wtf was that.
I can read a lot of thing but this series is definitely not for me. Granted I don't like the step-sibling trope because it has to be done in a certain way for me to enjoy it but I really really did not like that one.
The characters are not in love whatsoever just pure lust. They never had a single conversation that was worth the ink. Not once.
The FMC is insufferable she's pretty but won't acknowledge it but continues to remind us that she's hot. what do you mean "I hate my big boobs and my small ribcage" ?
The MMC is the blandest character I've ever read about. I do not know anything about him beside the fact that I found his 15yo step sister hot and that he plays football. that's it.

Longing for the Minotaur is a quick, sizzling holiday monster romance that immediately grabbed my attention with its premise: a forbidden relationship between a human and her minotaur stepbrother. As someone new to monster romance, this novella felt like the perfect introduction, and it delivers exactly what it promises. The spice and holiday atmosphere are spot-on, though the emotional depth doesn’t always keep up.

The story begins with Valentina returning home for Thanksgiving, where she must spend time with her stepbrother, the same one she has harbored feelings for but cannot openly acknowledge due to his past bullying in high school. A secret relationship soon develops, but the emotional connection feels underdeveloped. Valentina’s resentment is understandable, yet seeing more of their shared history through flashbacks would have added depth and made their present-day tension more compelling. Banon, meanwhile, is easy to root for: a sweet, devoted himbo with just the right amount of cluelessness, but his character development feels rushed because we rarely witness his perspective from the past.

The relationship has its ups and downs. Banon’s attempts to bury his feelings cause friction that Valentina struggles with, and her forgiveness comes a bit too quickly. Still, their chemistry is undeniable, and the spicy scenes are well-executed.

Overall, it’s a fast, cozy, and undeniably spicy read that monster romance fans will enjoy. A fun holiday banger if you want something quick, taboo-tinged, and full of heat. It won’t be my last book by this author: her writing style is engaging, and now that I’ve stepped into the world of monster romance, I’m hooked. With a bit more balance between spice and emotional depth, this could have been even stronger.

Thanks to the author for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was soooo cute! The perfect holiday novella for any monster-lover, with some fun taboo elements mixed in for good measure.

Valentina & Baron are step-siblings and have mutual crushes on each other (but of course neither of them can conceive of a universe in which their counterpart shares those feelings) and their relationship is a bit testy, rife with competition. Banon is a minotaur and football player, the popular sunshine jock to Valentina’s moodier loner vibe.

They’re super different but complement each other really well, and underneath that uneasiness there’s a deep well of love and respect (and horniness obv).

If you’re in the mood for a sweet & spicy monster romance I highly recommend! Lyonne Riley never lets me down. 😈

Tropes:
- taboo/step-siblings
- always been you
- opposites attract
- size difference
- minotaur x human
- secret relationship
- he pushes it back in 👁️👄👁️

It’s like every time I open a Lyonne Riley book I’m introduced to a new trope I had no interest in before….and wow, I’m so glad.
This is my first stepbrother read and I loved it.
I loved it so much that the first thing I did was run to Lyonne’s DMs to tell her.
Banon had no right to have such a filthy mouth….but I’m here for it.
I mean seriously, “it might not fit at first, but I’ll make sure it does.”
And sweet Valentina, girl, the way I was clutching my pearls when you almost let the cat (of them dating) out of the bag.
I’m loving the Indecent Monsters novellas by Lyonne. I’m SO looking forward to the next one (IYKYK)

This is my first Lyonne Riley book, and I'm so, so excited to get into it. Minotaur's? Novellas? Spice? It has everything I need for a nice reading hour!

LONGING FOR THE MINOTAUR follows Val and Banon, stepsister and stepbrother who find themselves unearthing feelings that they thought were buried, and having to deal with the aftermath of when those feelings finally unravel.

I loved Banon. He was described as a 'bully' character in his youth, but it didn't feel like that to me. Banon was sweet and respectful and adored Valentina and I just felt my heart aching for him when he felt hurt by Valentina's words. I mean, who doesn't love a softie minotaur that looks like he can take anyone in a fight? 😂Was he cocky? Kind of. He felt more goofy and oblivious than cocky.

It took me a while to warm up to Valentina, though. I understood her frustrations and resentment toward Banon, but I think because we didn't see any of their previous interactions when they were teenagers, she seemed a little immature in the beginning. I think some flashback scenes would have been beneficial, but when we finally get to Valentina's confrontation chapter, everything clicked into place for me, and I understood her frustrations. I was ROOTING for her, like literally reading on my pc saying to myself "give it to him!" Because, come on, who doesn't love seeing a man grovel? 😍

This girl was down bad for Banon 😂I mean, I can't imagine having to sit in the same room of someone I love, who I don't think loves me back. Valentina is kind of my spirit-animal, because I feel like she and I would get along great! I do wish, though, that her apology had been more genuine after their argument.

I also loved that she stuck up for herself. She knew her worth and told Banon upfront how she felt about his teasing, and I like that she eventually gave him the chance to speak his mind and explain his emotions. The side characters of Valentina's stepmom (Banon's mom) and dad were also a nice, cozy edition, and I liked that they didn't bring too much drama.

The spice and plot both move so fast, you don't expect what happens next 😅but it was a cozy read, quick-paced and simple, and I liked that because I think drawing out Valentina's anger toward Banon would have caused more conflicts that didn't feel necessary. Riley did an amazing job portraying their characters, and their chemistry during the spicy scenes were AMAZING! Banon took charge and the way he was speaking to Valentina was just soooo hot 🥵we all really need a minotaur like Banon in our lives.

Overall, I think Banon holds my heart in this story, and even though it took me a bit to warm up to Valentina, I came to love her too and her chemistry with Banon! Valentina is someone I want as my best friend. This is a quick, spicy, intense monster romance that you don't want to miss out on if you're looking for a cute, fast-faced, hot read!

"But the thing that’s always been most painful? How gorgeous my jackass stepbrother is. Everyone knows it, including him, which is both part of the reason he’s such an asshole, and part of the reason I still let him get away with what he does. He just looks so pretty doing it." - Val

Valentina has been fighting and denying her longtime crush on her stepbrother. If only her father hadn't fallen in love with Banon's minotaur mom! Not really, she's very happy for her dad and the love he shares with Marissa. It just makes things awkward for her, even after the events of HS her heart still wants Banon.

Distance and ignoring one another hasn't helped to solve anything between the two. The caps about to blow when the two have to come home for the Holidays and be in close proximity to one another. If Val speaks her truth to Banon will this blowup horribly and ruin their combined family? Could Banon even possibly see her in that way or is this some taboo fantasy. . .?! Holidays are already stressful enough!

"Something normal. Something where I didn’t have to always hide, always try to pretend like I don’t crave her. . ." - Banon

I enjoy a Lyonne Riley book whether full length or a fun novella like this one. I think I have a major soft spot in my heart for Minotaurs. I will not be taking any questions on this matter because I don't even fully know the answers as to why. I love how Riley writes her characters and how she's tackling taboo romances with this novella series! The books don't have to be read in order!

The struggle between the two was very fun to watch. Dual POVs showing just how much they were battling internal thoughts and wants. Both not understanding why there's always been this major divide between them. Val, believing he didn't even see her as a friend let alone a younger sibling. Banon not realizing how much damage he caused Val in HS by setting the tone of how people should treat her. Banon was always the football star that shone and was unreachable, widening the divide between them more.

Yet through everything the two's crush on one another only grew. I respected Banon with some of the choices he made regarding their age difference. He's only four or five years older but at a certain point he was seen as an adult while Val was still a minor. NOTHING happens until after they are both legally, consenting adults!

This is a cozy and steamy romance that stays on the lighter side. Yes, there are some issues regarding their relationship and how others would view them. Admired that not everyone accepted or just instantly loved their love. Made it feel more organic. Mention of HS bullying and having four years of misery. Language is spread throughout and do read through the short CWs list. We do get spicy minotaur loving that happens fairly fast since the two already know each other.

The couple do get an HEA! I like that this read takes place during a holiday (Thanksgiving) that I feel gets skipped over because of merchants pushing sales. I really loved Momma Marissa's character and her helping hand throughout the read! I want to join one of her Thanksgiving dinners, but she may kick me outside when I eat my not-too-sweet pumpkin pie. . .

Enjoy the quick, cozy, monster romance as you take a small break from the festivities! Don't forget to give the author some stars!

Longing for the Minotaur: A Risky Romance

I received an ARC from the author for an honest review and honestly, I LOVED this book. It was so good, I finished it in one day, which is not normal for me even with shorter novellas. I am just not a fast reader and I am a big mood reader.

This 154-page novella is the perfect length for a quick, spicy holiday-themed read. Longing For The Minotaur is a steamy holiday monster romance featuring a nerdy goth girl and her football-playing minotaur stepbrother who have it bad for each other for years featuring a sweet and spicy HEA. This novella takes place during the Autumn-Winter holiday season making for a perfect steamy holiday read.

Valentina and Bannon have been hiding and fighting their feelings for each other for years, but during one fateful visit back home for Thanksgiving their secrets are revealed to each other. With things unraveling fast these step siblings come together to explore their feelings while trying to keep their relationship a secret from their parents. The clandestine nature of their relationship was extremely sexy and helped make this book absolutely un-put-downable. Be prepared for some very satisfying reading.

I loved that they were afraid to tell their parents, especially his mom, but ultimately their parents were on their side and supported their relationship. I thought it was funny that they thought their parents would not find out without them actually confessing to them.

I loved that we got an epilogue and would love to see another novella with Valentina and Bannon featuring their married life escapades, maybe with a few more public s*x scenes.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and plan on reading it again soon, I did not want this book to end and wish it had a few more spicy scenes simply so I could have read longer. It would have also been nice if the current spicy scenes last longer, but that is just me being greedy. With that said, it is a wonderful book and since it is a standalone makes a perfect entry point for someone looking to get into not only monster/taboo romances but into Lyonne Riley's books.

I highly recommend Lyonne Riley's books.

This is really hard to rate, in my opinion. On the one hand, the pacing feels off and where detail is given a bit uneven. (There is so much past information about their interactions given but we barely see that impact them other than through words. We get a content warning about a public sex scene that we barely get to know about. There is all this build up and spiraling thoughts about how people will react but it ends up fine.) On the other hand, this is a nicely sexy, sweet, and over the top monster romance that hits that "quick and dirty" spot for reading. (Which means it accomplishes the stated goal very well.) I was given a copy of this ARC for my honest opinion, so I'm likely being more detail oriented in my desire for an accurate rating than usual. Overall, I'd say I enjoyed reading it, in that generic "monster romance by LR are sweet and spicy goodness" way, but it has nothing specific to recommend it. Additional note, LR (and the FMC) get bonus points for acknowledging how problematic Thanksgiving is and for some (however lowkey) FMC Bi Rep.

TLDR: READ if you like MinotaurxHuman, secret relationship, stepsiblings where they're healthy about how they handled it (no grooming, relationship starts after 21y) or family Holiday "forced proximity" plots.

TLDR: DON'T read if being told but not shown bothers you, porn with proper pacing is important, you like monsters who are monsterous in any real way, or you like your size difference couples to actually mention said difference more than once (I dont mean the D size, that has its proper place of importance, lol).

I saw the tropes and knew this would be a 5-star read for me, and Lyonne STILL exceeded expectations! Seriously, I feel like Lyonne looked into my head and pulled out my favorite tropes when she wrote this one 😊

Y’all know I love minotaurs, stepsibling romances, and an age gap. You may know that I was a total nerd in high school who had a thing for the jocks (secretly of course!), as well as the bully romance trope. So this was absolutely perfection!

I loved watching Valentina and Banon finally give in and let the other know about their feelings for each other. From the beginning, you could tell these two were fighting themselves and each other on their chemistry due to societal constraints, however once they gave in, they just clicked so well together! I loved all the spicy scenes where they just couldn’t keep their hands off each other, as well as the cuddles and how sweet they were in between the spice. And Banon’s mouth? Sir, any day of the week you want to talk to me like that, you have full permission!!

I loved how the parent they thought would have a problem with their relationship was actually the one ok with it and helped the other parent come around (funny how that works! That’s totally realistic though!). Speaking of the parents, I loved that Banon’s mom was the minotaur while Valentina’s dad was the human. We typically do not see love stories where the monster is female and the human is male, and I hope we see more of this going forward in MCs!

Thank you to Lyonne Riley for the opportunity to read this book. The thoughts and opinions expressed above are honest and my own.

Sometimes I've wondered what it would be like to have that life with Val. To lie on the grass with her and read our books, her head resting on my chest, my hand tangled in her hair. Something normal. Something where I didn't have to always hide, always try to pretend like I don't crave her, like I don't want to eat her and absorb her inside myself and never let her go again.

4.5 stars

Okay I did not expect to love this sexy and forbidden story as much as I did! Valentina has carried unbrotherly feelings for her stepbrother for years despite the grief his bullying brought her throughout high school. After an unexpectedly harsh comment led to a forced conversation, Banon and Val realized their admiration and attraction for each other were reciprocated...which leads to some seriously steamy secret hookups. As sexy and inevitable as their relationship was, Banon was constantly worried about the repercussions because of its taboo nature. I loved how soft and caring Banon secretly was with Val; he put her well-being above everything else (sometimes annoyingly so) and I loved how he loved her. Val was equally as smitten with Banon, and in the end, love conquered all. I'm glad this was my last read of 2025, and I cannot wait for more books in 2026🖤

Tropes: stepbrother romance, forbidden love, charming jock hero, girl-next-door heroine, forced proximity, mutual pining, 'it's always been you', secret relationship, STEAMY🔥

A moment for this cover art please 😍🥵

This book is so sweet and a perfect Thanksgiving read! I actually found it quite fitting that Banon plays football because so many people consider that a Thanksgiving thing too.

I had a good time with this book, I liked knowing a lot of the context up front since this was such a short read. It helped having the backstories and understanding where the characters were coming from. I do think I personally would've loved this to be a full length novel so we could get more time with the characters connecting but I also appreciated that this didn't slow burn us to a crisp.

I love a secret romance and I enjoyed seeing the ways that Valentina and Banon navigated their relationship while also spicing up the page! It was really sweet the ways they knew and understood each other. I liked how supportive they were of one another too - with Val in school and Banon in sports.

There isn't a whole lot of crazy drama, it's mostly about the characters finding their way to each other, being honest and figuring out how to be both step-siblings and a couple. I really like them together and their family too! I do usually like to have at least one on-the-page friend and some hobbies or other character development for the main characters but I still had a great time reading this!

Thank you to Lyonne Riley for the ARC!

What if the one you long for is the one you shouldn’t.

Valentina always had a crush on her stepbrother Banon, she always thought that he was handsome, drop dead gorgeous but at the same time she thinks he hates her. He never had her back when she was being bullied at school, he didn’t treat her well, but what Val didn’t know was that Banon craved her just as much as she did him.

Banon knows he shouldn’t have these feelings for Val. He doesn’t want her to believe anymore that he hates her. It was a wall he built up so that she wouldn’t discover his true feelings for her, that he loves her just as much.

“I want you. I want you so bad. I’ve watched you for years”

He knows he hurt her all those years ago in high school and he feels guilty about it. Nothing will feel right until they are together. She’s the best thing that has ever happened to him.

He’s only fear is that they’ll be disowned if their relationship is discovered, what effect it will have on their family. You’ll have to read to find out.

I loved the chemistry between Valentina and Banon, the tender moments between them. How Val adores his cheesy lines he says to her. This is a short, sweet, spicy novella and enjoyed reading it and with a line like this one “Now that I have you, I’m never letting you go”🥵 who wouldn’t want to.

Thank you so much to @lyonnerileyauthor for the eARC of Longing for the Minotaur - I’ve absolutely loved every book I’ve read by Lyonne thus far (Trollkin lovers series, The Orcs Rage, Programmed for love etc) and this was no exception!

This spicy little book had just the right amount of forbidden with Valentina the FMC pining for her Minotaur stepbrother Banon (help me step-Minotaur, I have a huge crush on you! 😂) 💖 Valentina was a little bit cagey feeling at times and super sarcastic which I feel like we’re coping mechanisms or her way of protecting herself.

Banon gave off big jock, himbo vibes, he really didn’t help Valentina have a positive high school experience by letting his friends tease her relentlessly and that did sort of portray him as a reformed bully 😭 teasing be damned though, she still had a thing for him.

Lucky for Valentina her crush isn’t so unrequited when Banon reveals how he really feels about her 🫣🥰

I loved the parental relationship between Val’s dad and Banons Minotaur mum, they were such sweet and nurturing parents without overstepping boundaries within their respective stepparent roles 💖

Despite being quick this story was really fun & spicy, with a decent serving of yearning and taboo. Definitely a recommend for any monster lovers and especially if you want a taste of Lyonnes writing and it is OUT NOW ✨
