Pilar:Bad B*tches Cry Too: An Urban Romance Standalone

Rate this book
Pilar is the woman every man wants and some women envy—confident, beautifully flawed, and in control. At least that’s how she shows up in the world. A known name in the strip club circuit, she’s the business savvy brains behind invite-only parties that bring the scammers and ballers alike out. With a presence that commands any room she steps in, one wouldn’t know the scarred woman beneath the designer clothes and big personality. Dealt a bad hand as a child, Pilar has experienced trauma that eventually causes her to take on a new personality just to block it out. Using her beauty and sexuality as currency, she’s come to the conclusion that it’s all she’s willing to offer a man.
Until she’s reunited with her past.
Amir, once her childhood best friend and first innocent crush, the boy who made her laugh when life felt unbearable, finds his way back to her after losing touch years ago. Having fought his own battles with trauma and sharing things with Pilar that he’d never utter to anyone, he’s now a grown man living a life Pilar never saw coming. Still, he never forgot her face, her charisma, and most importantly, her heart
As they reconnect, the chemistry is undeniable, but so is the pain that they’ve both buried. This is a raw and passionate story of rediscovery, healing, and the kind of love that pushes you to take your power back.

We first met Pilar's character in A Secret Love Affair with the Plug and we got a glimpse into her boss life but in this book we get so much more. Although she is a boss in her own right we also see a softer more vulnerable side to her. While she is tough on the outside she is dealing with demons that she had to deal with growing up.

Amir was her childhood best friend and he too was dealing with issues as a child that forced his mom to move away with him and his sisters. As adults they run into each other again and once they do the chemistry is off the charts. Things flow so naturally between the two of them and it was like they never parted ways all those years ago. I liked that he still had the protector vibe and didn't hold back that he was attracted to her and they easily fell into a relationship. Amir was a man who meant business and I liked how he put Sincere in his place too.

I truly liked everything about this book, the character development, the chemistry, the vulnerability of the characters, the communication they had and the spice was an added touch.

satisfyingly sweet

Y’all this one was a vibe. It’s one of those feel good reads that sneaks up on you and warms your heart without even trying. The story is about Pilar, a woman who’s been through it especially growing up. Just when she thinks she found someone to make her life bearable at a young age,he up and leaves , and everything shifts. But then Yara steps in as her new bestie who helps her find her confidence again, and is always there to comfort her even while Pilar’s still figuring out her own worth.

And just when things start to level out boom, here comes Amir. The one she never thought she’d see again. Their connection is instant. Like they picked up right where they left off only now they’re older. Amir is a stand-up type, protective, loyal, man who has been holding it down for his family. Until He runs into rekindling what they once had with some obstacles in the way.

What I loved most is how real their love feels. No over-the-top drama, no forced chasing. Just two people finding their way back to each other while facing everything and everyone trying to keep them apart. The chemistry between Amir and Pilar seems so genuine. And the one thing that Amir was gone do is talk that lady thru it and I couldn’t get enough of it!!

If you like stories that mix love, growth, and a little bit of real-life mess, an ex who can’t let go and a baby mama who stays trying him this one’s a must-read. It’s laidback, it’s relatable, and it leaves you rooting for both of them the whole way through.

Authoress Nai really did her thing with this one! The story was subtle but still kept me entertained . I didn’t catch any grammar or spelling mistakes either, which made it an even smoother read. I love how it was told from different perspectives it really makes you feel like you’re getting the full story instead of just one side.

There were a few things I wished got a little more shine like Sincere and Laina’s situation. I just wanted a bit more there (that’s the nosy reader in me though 😅). But honestly, that didn’t take away from how much I enjoyed the book. And what about Peace and Yara? I feel like they have a whole story of their own waiting to be told!

Rating: Say It Loud / Hush Lil Baby — Say It Loud.

The main message I took from this story is that mental health really matters. No matter what kind of trauma you’ve been through, it’s okay to get help , actually, it’s necessary. Another big takeaway for me was about knowing your worth. Stop settling for whatever someone decides to give you just because you think that’s all you deserve. You’re worth more.

Also, fair warning there is a trigger warning in this book. So if certain topics are hard for you, make sure you’re in the right headspace before diving in.

Verdict:

I enjoyed this book so much everything about it was hitting. The love, the pain, the doubt, the anger, the confusion… it was all there, and it all felt real. There was so much to unpack, and I honestly hope every single one of these characters gets their own story. I was left wanting more but still completely satisfied with how it ended. No complaints at all.

Now let’s talk about Amir definitely book bae! He doesn’t bite his tongue, keeps it real, and is unapologetically himself. How could Pilar not fall for that man?
Anyway, y’all better go grab this one. Authoress Nai, you did your thing! I’m seriously hoping for some spinoffs because there’s more story left to tell. Short, sweet, and straight to the point—you nailed it. Oh, and that intermission? CRAZY!

Just what I need!

As soon as this book came across my timeline I was on it. I don’t when or how but NAI has become a must read author for me.

When I say Mir did not come to play behind Pilar, he stood on straight business everytime. He was sure from the moment that they reconnected and I love that. I also thought he was gone have to gone and take his baby mama out. There is no way she was so aloof about what was going on in her house and dismissive of her own daughter.

I loved that Pilar had a great friend that encouraged therapy to the point they both went. I love that she saw it through and that when Mir came back into her life she recognized what they could be. I lowkey wanted sincere knocked off. But I loved this book!

From page one, this story wraps you in a whirlwind of emotion. Pilar: Bad Bitches Cry Too is a heartfelt, best-friends-to-lovers romance that’s as raw as it is uplifting. Nai captures the messy, beautiful journey of love, healing, and self-worth with a voice that’s completely captivating.
Pilar is a character you immediately root for. Her journey is filled with pain, resilience, and the slow realization that she deserves every ounce of love that comes her way. Watching her evolve from guarded to open-hearted is a highlight of the book.
Amir is equally unforgettable. As a single father to his daughter Hope, he brings warmth and stability to the story. His love for Pilar is protective, tender, and powerful—the kind of devotion that makes you swoon. Lines like “You’re my Mir” and his fierce loyalty to her make his character shine.
The friendship between Pilar and Yara adds another layer of heart. Their sister-like bond grounds the story, showing the importance of having someone in your corner, even during life’s hardest battles.
What truly makes the book sing is its handling of emotional themes. Nai doesn’t shy away from trauma or heartbreak, but every heavy moment is balanced with healing, growth, and joy. By the final pages, you feel like you’ve witnessed two people reclaim their wholeness and step into the love they’ve always deserved.
Memorable, empowering, and deeply moving, Pilar: Bad Bitches Cry Too is a five-star read that lingers long after the last line.

Beautiful story. I love a good friends to lovers. Ain’t no back and forth here yall. These friends know what they want. I love how Yara was coming behind Pilar. I think besides family. Everyone should have that one good friend who don’t play behind them, I have one and it’s just different. Thanks for this pleasant story.

Amir inked it on Pilar’s ribs… Bad Bihhhs Cry Too

Pilar, Amir and Yara all grew up going through some things. Pilar carried so much heaviness because of her family. It’s good that she had Amir as a bestie and then Yara once he left. She didn’t have family to support her, but she had them. Sincere was a piece of work. Glad Peace didn’t follow up with him. This was a great read!

I loved this book. Bad bitches do in fact cry too! Pilar and Amir are perfect for each other. I’m so glad they found their way back. One of the funniest parts of this book though was the intermission (Nai plays too much 😂) and the wedding reception IYKYK 😅 I gotta read Yara’s story next, I like her.

Wait

I want Nellez and Cejohn to have their moment. Like I was hoping they ran to each other during the wedding. Or Trinity got caught cheating or something. And yes I appreciated the intermission and the honesty

must Read

Nai did what needed to be done 🔥 This wasn’t the longest story, but it was packed with real emotion and hood love energy. Pilar’s story broke me open that girl been through some things and Amir came through like soft redemption in a hard world. 💯 Still juicy, still worth the read.

Good Read

I liked Pilar and I'm glad she finally found a way to live without living to survive. Finding Amir again was just what she needed. I love the way Yara had Pilar's back. I hope Che can find a love just as strong as her brother Amir's and Pilar.💌💌
