Welcome to Keldur: Where dragons bond Vikings at birth and are a part of everyday life.
It’s that magical time of year when the cold winter season approaches bringing Yuletide cheer to the island. Twelve days of celebrations and traditions, only this year, it looks a bit different.
Greta, the Chief’s daughter, must find someone to marry before the solstice. She has no interest in any of the men in Keldur, so instead, there will be five trials to determine a worthy Viking for her hand.
Meanwhile, the dragons have been slowly having less young yearly. The eggs are scarce as of late, but it seems a holiday dragon egg miracle is just what Greta needs to help determine her future.
Like the dedication says; for anyone needing a holiday distraction that involves dragons and fated mates, this one's for you.
Even if you're not into the holiday theme, this novella is a perfect break between novels cause it's more Yule themed, so it wintery and cosy but not cheesy. And if you're into dragons this is definitely a must read!
If How To Train Your Dragon and Brave would have a baby you would get this novella and I absolutely loved it!
I loved the writing! It was very well done and I would easily read a longer version of this story!

this was such a fun fast read! i really love anything that involves vikings en to read this book has been such a great time! this is such a great vikings, How To Train Your Dragon, slight Brave vibes that i absolutely adore! the writing style is really nice and comforting to read. the characters are so fun too! to be honest i wish i could read more about Greta, Lucas and their dragons!
what i love too is that this book is also talking about Yule mixed with a really nice Yule tradition! it was so cute to read that the dragons also have their own Yule traditions! and ofcourse there are trials that i enjoyed reading about too!
all in all, if you want to read a cozy holiday story with dragons, enemies to lovers, How To Train Your Dragon x Brave, trials and Yule than this book is a perfect cozy read for you!
It reminded me of Brave & How To Train Your Dragon.
Greta practically has no say when her father and the council decide she needs to get married. She was given 3 days to pick a husband, or they would hold 5 trials to find a suitable husband. I felt frustrated for her.
The ending had me smiling. This book had me wishing I lived on an island and had my very own bonded dragon. Because let’s be honest, who wouldn’t want a badazz dragon by their side?
I absolutely adored this sweet novella! It was perfect in every way! If you aren't a major holiday themed book reader, this one will a great fit since its Yule and doesn't involve all the typical cheesy themes holiday books tend to include. go grab this book asap!
ᖇEᐯIEᗯ: THE TENSION! AHHH. Catch me screaming and giggling at the dance with me scene. 🫠😏 Starting this book I was worried about the lack of spice, but this still had me squealing and completely obsessed with these characters! Loved this book. A thanks to the author for opening my mind a bit to take more chances on books outside of my go to reads. This was such a refreshing read. 🥰 Dragons, Viking trials and traditions, cozy Yuletide vibes. This novella is available now & I highly suggest you add it to your Christmas reading list! Once Upon a Dragon Flight is a cozy and charming fantasy that delivers exactly what you hope for in a quick novella. It has a warm sense of adventure and just enough heart to pull you right in. The story gives a soft nod to How to Train Your Dragon while still feeling fresh and enjoyable on its own.
The characters are surprisingly well developed for such a short read. They are easy to like, easy to follow, and their relationships feel natural. The hint of a fated mates connection adds a sweet romantic pull without taking over the story.
The pacing moves fast, which fits the format. It gives you action, connection, and a taste of something bigger without ever dragging. This one has a nice flow that keeps things fun and engaging.
The worldbuilding is light in the best way. You get dragons, trials, Viking inspired culture, all presented with a cozy vibe that makes the world feel welcoming.
By the end, I was ready for more. This novella lays the groundwork for a larger world, and I hope we get to return to it. It is a quick, warm, and delightful read for anyone who loves dragons and soft adventure.
This was the perfect cozy read! I loved how it gave me serious How to Train Your Dragon vibes, and the Yule celebrations and mini trials sprinkled throughout added so much charm and fun to the story.
The characters were delightful, and I loved how the dragons were celebrated as an integral part of the village. Greta was a bit feisty but strong, holding her own whenever she could, while Lukas was the ultimate golden retriever MMC, making their dynamic so enjoyable. I also really enjoyed the way the dragons were woven into daily life. It was such a refreshing change of pace from other fantasy books with dragons.
The story moves quickly, and while the world-building isn’t super in-depth, it didn’t need to be. I will say there were moments where it felt like the story ended a bit abruptly, but honestly, I think that just meant I wanted more!
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this story and would love to see the author continue exploring these wonderful characters and their charming world.
Once Upon a Dragon’s Flight was such a delightful surprise. For a short novella, it truly had everything I love in fantasy: dragons, Vikings, Yule celebration and that perfect hint of slowburn tension.
The writing style was incredibly fluent, joyful, and easy to sink into, making the whole story feel like a warm escape into another world. And the dragons… honestly, the dragons stole the show. They brought that pure fantasy vibe I’m always searching for, and oh my god, it was amazing.
If you love mythical creatures, cozy festive atmospheres (not Christmas- Yule!), and stories that feel both magical and heart-warming, this novella is absolutely worth the read.
I loved this holiday novella. It’s a retelling of How to Train Your Dragon and I’m all for it. I loved Greta the FMC as she’s stubborn, strong willed but loves her father and their village and is willing to put the village first. I only wish the story was a proper novel so we can read more about them!
Favourite quotes include: As the snow surrounds us, casting a beautiful scene on the island, and as our dragons fly in what seems like a dance above, I smile at him, nodding, ready for my heart to open up for the first time.
This was a cute and cozy holiday novella with Viking vibes! I adored all of the magical descriptions of their holiday traditions and celebration. It was the perfect read to get you in the mood for the holiday season. The Viking vibes and meddling dragons reminded me of How to Train Your Dragon but with a romantasy twist. This was such a fun read, and I can't wait to see if there's more to their story!
This is such a cute Holiday Novella! I loved the traditions and countdown to the Winter Solstice. If you messed How to Train Your Dragon with Brave but make Hiccup not the underdog you totally get this cute novella! I loved the dragons and I want a baby dragon! If you are looking a cute, quick fantasy holiday read you gotta pick up this book!
A How to Train Your Dragon and Brave holiday viking Novella.
thia story was so fun for a holiday novella. I loved the dragon and viking aspect of the story. I hope there will be more for this story in the future.
This novella was the cutest thing!! I loved every minute of it, the back and forth drove me a little crazy 🤣 but thats just how it needs to play out 🥰 I hope there will be another book!
I LOVED THIS BOOK FROM START TO FINISH! I loved that even if it was a small book the love was not instant and we saw them come to terms with what they just discovered! The ad of dragons only grew my love for the book since I ADORE THEM. And the main character was PERFECT. She was strong and she knew what she wanted. she didn't let anybody cross her and she made sure she had a say in her fate. They were perfect together and truth be told I need more of them!
