Her husband forgot how to see her.
Her captor refuses to look away.

Desires tangles with fear in New York Times bestselling author K. Bromberg’s darkly seductive novella about right, wrong, and the dangerous space in between.

Lily Archer came to Italy to save her marriage.
She never expected to lose herself instead.

When she looks up from her lonely glass of wine, she meets eyes that see too much. Eyes that tempt her with everything it seems her husband has long since forgotten.

One drink. One nod. That’s all it took to unravel everything.

Now she’s captive to a stranger who whispers promises in the dark. Promises she should fear, yet her body betrays her by craving every sinful touch. But what terrifies her the most aren’t the restraints, it’s how her terror turns into temptation until she can no longer tell where one ends and the other begins.

Lily must decide if this night will destroy her or awaken something she can never bury again.

Unraveled by K. Bromberg

THIS REVIEW IS FULL OF SPOILERS, SO READ AHEAD AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION.

I have no idea how to rate this book. I went on a rollercoaster of emotions. And they weren't always happy emotions. I think I am confused most of all? Don't get me wrong, I think it's a 4 maybe even 5 star book. But I hated how my emotions had to make several 180's. I'll just start writing this review and see what I think at the end of it.

Unraveled is a dark romance and everyone knows how much I love a good dark romance. It feels almost silly to explain but I can see a dark romance book as its own thing. I do not compare it with real life. It's a book, it's fictional. If it happened in real life I would never condone the things that happen in a dark romance. But in a fictional, not real setting, I can thoroughly enjoy it and I crave the darkness that comes with the storytelling of dark romance.

So this one? This one de-li-ve-red! At first. Or still? F*** I don't know. It started off great.

Lily has been married for 15 years. She has been together with her husband for 20 years. They share two teenage sons. But all three men take her for granted. Her sons use her as a housekeeper. Her husband does take care of them, doesn't cheat, but he is very absent. His work comes first. And they lost each other in the bedroom. They scheduled in a moment on Tuesdays and only Anderson, the husband, gets a happy ending. Lily tries to let him know how much she misses him. How much she wishes that their s*x life was more exciting. She plans a vacation to Italy to celebrate their anniversary.

But when they are about to leave work holds Anderson back and Lily travels alone to Italy. She is miserable and when a man across the room sends her a drink she accepts it and eagerly drinks it. She does not jump his bones. She just accepted the drink and is about to return to her hotel room. But when she starts walking she's getting woozy and she realizes her drink was spiked. She hears a man walking up to her and she passes out.

She wakes up naked, blindfolded, gagged and bound. Everything in her protests. She is scared and her captor confuses her. He touches her, prepares his body, makes her body ready for him. And it scares her how much she loves it. He tells her how he saw how lonely he was. How he wants to remedy that.

"I will f*** you as I see fit. I will use you, own you, make you mine."

Her body trembles and then he suddenly confuses her even more.

"And when I've taken everything I want from you, I will let you go."

After 24 hours he will let her go. And then he starts pleasuring her, her body comes to life, sings, rejoices. She pleasures him at times as well.

And then the confusing part starts. She is constantly thinking about her husband. At first we see him as a selfish man. But slowly through flashbacks we get to see that the reason he works so hard is because he wants to secure a financially stable future for his wife and sons. And finally we get snippets that her boys love her too.

Normally in a dark romance the FMC falls for the captor. And for a second I thought the story would go that way. I really enjoyed how all consuming and explosive the scenes were. I love how reactive both of them are. And things change when suddenly another man joins them. Fear spikes again. But soon lust takes over. She learns even more about her own body and the bodies of the two men.

I was completely invested and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Until the moment she passes out again and wakes up in her own room. Guilt wrecks through her body and all she can think about is getting clean. She feels abused. Raped. Used. She repeats it again and again. She feels filthy and used. And suddenly I felt disgusted with myself. I felt disgusted for liking the premise of the story at first. And now I was comparing her story to real life and I was like yes... that is abuse. She did get raped. Just like men can't help getting hard in a rape and woman can come as well. But that doesn't diminish the fact that it is rape. I truly hated myself. I was like ugh. How could you. You of all people, how could you like it. I felt like a complete piece of shit.

And then the last part happens. She stays for a few more days so her body can heal. She decides not to tell her husband what happened. Because she feels guilty for washing away the evidence and not going to the police. And when she is home.. she decides to give her husband her all. She tells him that she wants to feel desired and that she wants to get out of this rut that they are in. He goes to the bathroom. And then his phone rings. She picks it up. It's the hotel telling her they found her bracelet that she lost that night. At first she is like no I wasn't in the penthouse. I was in a regular room. And then the man on the phone tells her her husband's name. And then she realises Anderson was the second man in the bedroom that night. He arranged the entire night. It was his gift to her that he did listen to her. And that he wanted her to experience true pleasure. He watched and learned. He did it all for her.

And suddenly... it is okay? They don't tell each other they know. So I went from oeh this is a hot erotic novella. To hating myself for liking it and disregarding the feelings of her being raped. And suddenly it's all hot and feisty again?

I must admit I am still confused. I truly have no idea if the author meant for us readers to go on that rollercoaster of emotions. But I think I either prefer it to be hot or that it's a heartbreaking book full of pain. It's very hard for me to unite those two and enjoy this novella that was sort of told in three parts.

5 stars for the anguish I went through? 5 stars for truly making me confused? Or 4? I seriously have no idea. I think I'll settle on 4 and just keep thinking about this book. I just have no clue whatsoever if I liked it or not. Yes and no. I think the feeling that I loathe myself is the most dominant one at this point. I am also kinda. Did she call it abuse because she didn't want to acknowledge that she liked it? And was it a reason so she could deal with it? But if it was like that I wish there was more clarity. So that the first part stays fun and hot and dark romance-like.

Uhm. I am not downgrading the book for going on this rollercoaster. It was really well written. And I admit it is the first time I am really struggling with a dark romance and just don't know if it was hot or not. So 4 stars for now. And I might reread it in the future and see if I can get a clearer feeling in my heart and see if I understand it more.

***4,25 "Ora sei libero!!!" stars***

"How can I be scared boneless and yet still have that burning ache unfurling in my lower belly?"

It is so hard to review this novel.... cause it is very hard to put my thoughts in the right order...
This was a short, dark romance and it was so well written, as everything that K. Bromberg is writing...
This book was very satisfying, but also too frustrating...
From times to times, i was feeling that I was Lily!!! And it was scaring in a way!!!
This story was very sexy, twisted and at the same time, frustrating cause in the end, I was feeling that my satisfaction wasn't right and I was feeling a little bit guilty...
Phew!!! My thoughts are really confusing, but this reading experience was very appealing!!!!

Well... Lily was married to Anderson for 15 years while they were together for twenty...
He and their two sons were taking Lily for granted and I think that they had lost their way at some point... Lily loved her husband, but she wanted more from him and their sexual life...
For their anniversary, Lily is planning a trip to Italy for them to rebuild their relationship...
But Anderson's job is keeping him away from Italy and she is passing their anniversary all alone...
A lonely night, a glass of wine and a stranger are changing everything for her...
She is becoming a captive and her captor has the ability to unravel her whole life...

Yes, this was a dark erotic novel, but things aren't always as they seem...
And here I am... Frustrating as f**k cause I don't know if it is wrong or right that I liked this story and that it had imprinted to me for a life!!!
It was terrifying seeing myself in Lily's place and not in this adventure, but to everything else and it scared me...
And then the revelations came and even though I had guessed right from very early, it was shocking to a degree to see the lenghts that someone can go in the name of love...

Well... this might be the most confusing review that I have ever written. Right???
But that's the beauty of the fictional world... This story even though frustrating, it was powerful and kind of unforgettable... It made me question even myself!!! LOL!!!
But I definitely enjoyed this wild ride!!!

"You are now free...."

“Feeling undervalued does that to you. Feeling perpetually . . . inconsequential only exacerbates it.”

Unraveled is a seductive dark romance novella that really captured my attention!
The story is told by FMC Lilly Archer who is a underwhelmed housewife and is feeling “unseen “ and unappreciated by her children and husband.

She also tries to introduce different methods to spruce up her none existing and dull s*x life to her husband. But he just blows her off and gets mad at her for suggesting such things.
She is set to take an anniversary trip to Italy with her husband Anderson.
But her workaholic husband decides to cancel, so Lily is now alone in Italy.

When a handsome stranger in Italy catches Lily’s attention at a bar she starts to fantasize about her once steamy s*x life from the past.
The stranger takes Lily and does unimaginable se*ual acts to her.
She’s overwhelmed with guilt and tries to corporate with her captor.
Even though it’s non-con and Lily is constantly thinking of her husband.
Lilly does give into her desires and lives out her “dark romance “ book fantasies.

It does end on a positive note and the story does have an unexpected twist at the end. Which I actually figured out from the beginning. But I still enjoyed reading this spicy dark romance novella!!

Thank you K. Bromberg and Valentine PR for the eARC in exchange for my honest review!

Damn, I’m just straight up shook. Another dark romance book that completely ruined me, or should I say “unraveled me”? Because at the end I was staring at my wall in shock. I love books that just hit right in novella form, like this book set up was perfect to get the final point across and have amazing smut too. In some novellas it feels like something is missing and in some novels it feels to long but this felt so satisfyingly right. Enter Lily, a woman in her mid thirties, two boys and a husband who she feels like she’s growing further and further away from. Maybe getting kidnapped by an Italian man who worships her body is just what she needs? But lowkey this book isn’t just the smut it’s the underlying message that’s told between the lines. In the flashbacks and the little note at the end. This book was powerful and the smut just added to its intensity. I don’t really want to spoil it so I’ll leave it at that but please read this! It’ll destroy you, but it’ll be worth it. I give this a 5/5

In the Dark Romance ‘UnRaveled,’ Lily Archer has been married to her husband Anderson for fifteen years. To save their marriage, they plan a trip to Italy. Anderson has to work again, so he cannot join her on the trip. In Italy, Lily is kidnapped and wakes up tied up. Her captor does various things to her, and the most disturbing part is that she no longer knows whether what she is experiencing is horrifying or something she secretly desires.

K. Bromberg’s writing style is easy to follow; she uses short sentences and maintains a strong pace throughout the story. The main character, Lily, is portrayed with notable depth, allowing her emotions—from fear and confusion to desire—to come across convincingly. The story does not revolve solely around sex: themes such as shame, longing, and Lily’s search for identity play an equally important role. Because the book touches on topics related to sexuality, such as power, kidnapping, and captivity, it will not be suitable for every reader. The trigger warnings are therefore essential.

Flashbacks and Lily’s inner thoughts are a strong addition, clearly marked and offering extra insight into her internal struggle. The tension between repulsion and desire is portrayed effectively. The dynamic between Lily and her captor is complex, uncomfortable, and constantly shifting, giving the story a dark, charged, and at times claustrophobic tone.

The kidnapping feels very real, intense, forceful, and at times suffocating. While the plot is not entirely realistic and would never unfold this way in real life, that unreality fits the genre well. Bromberg uses familiar Dark Romance tropes but manages to keep them fresh and intense. The tension remains consistent, with changes in pacing that heighten the emotional rollercoaster.

For readers who enjoy raw emotion, moral complexity, and dark tension, ‘UnRaveled’ offers an intriguing reading experience. Those sensitive to themes such as coercion or power imbalance should proceed with caution.

This was unexpected in the best way possible. As to not give away any spoilers, let’s just say, keep reading. You’ll like what you find.

This short, steamy novella takes you on a wild ride, truly unraveling the feelings of desire mixed with fear. Although it’s only 145 pages, you get a great sense of the MF character and her need for more out of the mundane life she’s living.

K. Bromberg exactly what she’s doing. Her writing is impeccable and detailed. Everything you could want in a romance (dark in this case).

Unraveled is a fast-paced dark novella that follows Lily Archer as she takes a trip to Italy that was planned with hopes of reconnecting with her husband, but she ends up going alone and catching the eye of a stranger at the bar who challenges everything she thought she knew about herself, her marriage, and her desires. Definitely mind your triggers with this one, but go into it with an open mind.

This was so much different than all of the other books I have read by K Bromberg, but I still really enjoyed it.

KB does dark! Brava, what a ride.

WHAT DID I JUST READ???
Wow! This story caught me off guard and not in a bad way. Lily and Anderson have fallen into a mundane lifestyle. She was missing the spark of thier past, and their connection. The priorities for their relationship of 15 years had shifted. She was lost, felt unseen by her loved ones, and was lacking communication from her spouse. He prioritized work over everything.
While this story is not excessively dark it does take us on a ride. It’s taboo, sensual, intense, slightly unpredictable, steamy and erotic right from chapter 1. The complex story line weaves between present and past as Bromberg keeps you on your toes as to what will happen next. Just when Lily thought she knew what she wanted, it turned out that maybe it wasn’t what she thought she really wanted or needed after all. Also, can I just say, WHAT AN ENDING. I needed more. Biggest confirmation of a plot twist. My intuition was right for once. Brava, KB. Well done. Great and unexpected read.

Unraveled is a top notch novella that is highly engrossing from start to finish.
Lily and her husband Anderson are in a sexual rut and decide to go away on a second honeymoon. When Anderson bails on her for work, Lily finds herself in a foreign country alone and humiliated. She soon finds herself kidnapped and tied to a bed by a mysterious captor. This man subjects her to all kinds of pleasures and surprises.
Unraveled is erotic and steamy and definitely a book to read til the end. Highly recommended

Lily goes to Italy to save her marriage to a workaholic husband, but he does not show up. A single drink in a bar, leads to a night which changes her life completely. What will happen when the night is over?
This is a well written easy to read story, with emotions, tension, guilt, secrets, rediscovery, empowerment, and undeniable chemistry, which leads to an entertaining, twisted, and unpredictable, page turner.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

This was quite the unexpected dark romance from Kristy.

I am used to her mostly contemporary stories, so this was nice, unexpected change for me from her.

Have I read darker? Yes. Have most people who read Bromberg be ok with this one - that cannot be assumed, so please heed the trigger warnings.

This is seductive, dark novella and moves at the perfect pace. There is a nice twist in this one that was unexpected and made the book more enjoyable.

Lily's husband no longer sees her as his wife but more as the person who runs the house. On their anniversary, they go to Italy spoiler but her husband doesn’t show up. I love the references to her romance books and her fantasies from them. A stranger is now fulfilling all her deepest desires, and she is loving every ounce of it. Sometimes a fresh start brings a whole new perspective on life. Epilogue was a great twist.

What a fun time 😮‍💨 A couple who have fallen into a comfortable life, but boring in the bedroom. On their 15 year wedding anniversary, the FMC plans a trip out of the country to spice things up-only her husband cancels last minutes due to a work emergency. She still ends up in Italy, and gets kidnapped but a stranger who wants to use her in so many ways for only one day. If you need a quick spicy time, this is it.

What a different read from K Bromberg! This novella kept me guessing from start to finish and I adored the flashbacks which led to Lily's current predicament.

I did guess the ending but how we got there was filled with steam, suspense and all things naughty!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ARC Review — UnRaveled by K. Bromberg
“One drink. One nod. One night that shatters everything.”
UnRaveled is the kind of dark, intimate story that sneaks up on you and refuses to loosen its grip. Lily Archer travels to Italy hoping to save her marriage—and instead finds herself face-to-face with a stranger who sees every fracture she’s been trying to hide. What begins as loneliness spirals into a night thick with fear, temptation, and the kind of vulnerability that scrapes you raw.
K. Bromberg writes from a place you don’t expect, peeling back layers with precision and emotional depth. The tension is suffocating in the best way, the internal conflict is gripping, and the psychological unraveling is executed so well that you can feel it in your chest.
This story won’t be for everyone—please check trigger warnings—but if you’re drawn to dark emotional journeys, moral gray zones, and characters who break before they bloom, this one is unforgettable.
A haunting, powerful read that lingers long after the last page.

Some stories ease you in gently. This one sticks a hand around your throat and asks if you’re paying attention. UnRaveled is dark, intoxicating, and walks the razor-thin line between fear and desire with a confidence that makes you uncomfortable in the best possible way. It’s a novella that doesn’t waste a breath or a heartbeat, it just drags you under.

Lily Archer, our FMC is Lonely, heart-bruised, and quietly unraveling after years of being invisible in her own marriage. She’s the woman who tried to hold everything together until she couldn’t anymore, and now she’s standing at the edge of something forbidden, terrifying, and dangerously liberating. She’s vulnerable, neglected, aching for connection, but far stronger than she realises. Our MMC is a stranger Dark. Confident. Unsettlingly perceptive. The type of man who doesn’t just look at you, he sees you. He’s patient, controlled, and predatory in a way that shouldn’t be seductive but absolutely is. He understands Lily’s fractures better than her own husband ever did, and he knows exactly how to pull at the loose threads.

Lily arrives in Italy in a last-ditch attempt to resuscitate her dying marriage. Romantic getaway, scenic distractions, the usual “fake it ‘til we remember why we bothered” routine. Except her husband can’t be bothered. He’s absent in every way that matters, leaving her alone with her wine and the growing awareness that she’s become a ghost in her own relationship. And then she meets the stranger. One look; held too long. One conversation; too intimate, too knowing. One choice; small, almost harmless in the moment. It isn’t harmless. What should have been a polite nod becomes the match that lights the fuse. Lily chooses the danger she can’t explain, the attention she hasn’t felt in years, the man whose presence makes her pulse behave badly. She follows him (willingly, tremblingly) and finds herself in a situation that feels equal parts fantasy and threat. And that’s the point. The stranger doesn’t lie about what he wants. He wants her; stripped of roles, expectations, and the version of herself her husband slowly suffocated. What begins as a bad decision in a dark hallway becomes a night that dismantles her emotionally, sexually, psychologically. She’s restrained, yes, but the real trap is the way he forces her to confront every buried want and ignored ache she’s been living with. He sees her hunger before she admits she’s starving. The line between fear and desire blurs until it’s unrecognisable. Lily keeps telling herself she should run, fight, resist, but her body makes it very clear that she doesn’t want to. Not from him. Not from this. And that terrifying, liberating truth is what unravels everything she thought she knew about herself. By morning, she’ll have to face the consequences of the night that changed everything, the one she’ll never be able to forget, no matter how hard she tries.

UnRaveled is short, sharp, deeply seductive, and built entirely on psychological tension. It’s not a romance, it’s an awakening, wrapped in danger and control and the kind of intimacy that burns hotter because it shouldn’t exist. If you want something dark, atmospheric, and morally messy with a heroine stepping into her own desire for the first time, this is absolutely worth the read.

Dark and delicious

I am so mad that I didn't read this book when it was first released over 12 years ago. I feel like I would have been instantly hooked in all things this author wrote!

Heed the trigger warnings, because this book is filled with situations that scream "this is not a romance" but damn did this book end up being so much fun!

Our heroine, Lilly, has found herself in a peculiar situation. She's in a marriage that's barely holding on by a string. She loves her husband, knows that he loves her, but they're both so caught up in the rat race of life that their relationship has turned into "something else on the agenda". In between business meetings, sports, and household duties, they schedule their romance into their agenda like every other mundane thing in their lives. But even that doesn't seem to be working anymore, and on a last ditch effort, they've scheduled a romantic getaway overseas, without their children, to hopefully bring that spark back into their lives. When her husband has to cancel last minute, she's devastated, and decides to go on their trip alone to figure out what comes next for them.

One night, she's taken. A handsome stranger she subtly flirts with one night at a bar, takes that as his cue that she's interested, and takes her. When she wakes up, she's tied to a bed and at the mercy of a stranger. This book is filled with elements of what dark romance readers enjoy: noncon, dubcon, and captor/captive to name a few.

I will say, through it all I love Lilly's determination to make it through her ordeal for her family. While she gives into that spark that's always simmered underneath the surface for "something more, something wild", she stays true to who she is, and who she loves. I loved the conclusion of this book. Midway through I thought "there's no way this is a romance (HEA)" but sure enough it ended on a note that I was quite happy with. If you want something forbidden and dark, give this novella a try!

(I received a copy of this book to review)

trigger warnings will be at the bottom of this review, to avoid spoilers
non/dub con between the main character and her captor(s), explicit sexual situations that involves BDSM

Lily is in the “living” part of her life. Waking up, surviving, sleeping, rinse and repeat. She’s got two typical teen boys, and a husband who prefers work over anything else. She’s underappreciated and unloved. And she feels it. Anderson chooses work over their wedding anniversary trip, but that doesn’t stop Lily from going alone! And then she accepted wine from the wrong person. Her life will never be the same after that. Vacations can be the exact thing we need to feel refreshed and rejuvenated. And Lily goes home a whole new woman!

That’s it, that’s all I’m saying. Because this quick read has PLENTY packed into it ! And it is definitely a journey everyone needs to experience just based on the blurb. K Bromberg gives us a naughty novella about a harried wife and mother and the sexual awakening she experiences at the hands of a stranger. With help from a few chapters in the recent past, we glean just how Lily has been everything to everyone, including her hard-working husband and rambunctious sons, but has neglected herself for far too long. It's a story that could be about any woman out there who has lost herself and desperately needs a reboot.

I liked that Bromberg insisted that Lily still was wild about her husband, even when her personal needs weren't always being met. As she takes their anniversary trip to Italy by herself, due to her husband's demanding work schedule, what transpires one lonely night definitely sets her on a course to an interesting rebirth. One that is bound to change her intimate life for good and surprisingly opens her blindfolded eyes to things she never thought possible.

It's a journey to getting what you want even when the guilt of being with a stranger in a strange land almost devours you. Yet Bromberg gives us enough of Lily's inner thoughts to understand how she can justify what she experiences and makes it very believable for a middle-aged woman stuck in a rut.

With a good twist as to the person behind what Lily ultimately feels and does, with a bonus chapter in a different POV, I was happy that Lily is on her road to more. Proof that one can have it all when a devoted husband finally takes the time to listen. Something I think most of us can relate to at one time or another.

First written in 2014 as part of the Amazon-banned Bend anthology, I would have to think that if it were first written now, it wouldn't be considered as taboo as it was back then. But I'm glad I got the chance to finally read this novella and give it a solid 3.75 stars.

Anderson disappointed me from the beginning. He treats his wife like someone who must remember everything, plan everything, carry the whole household on her shoulders. She isn’t his assistant, nor she’s there to fix his life. A marriage means partnership and he forgot that. Reading how their intimacy changed over the years hurt, it felt unfair and I was suffering along with Lily on those scenes.

Lily’s thoughts are chaotic, they jump between fear, desire and shame and everything feels messy in a way that makes sense for me because I felt every moment of fear and confusion and the attraction that shows up where it shouldn’t. The psychological tension was really intense and I kept imagining what I would do in her place, because the book doesn’t tell what is right, nor give a moral lesson, it lets you sit with the discomfort.

The captivity scenes are complicated, nothing about them is simple. Fear mixes with want and her body reacts while her mind protests and it creates a space where everything becomes confusing. I appreciated that it isn’t romanticized, but just shown how tangled her emotions are.

I was surprised by my own reaction to Anderson: I started the book angry at him and finished it with a strange sense of understanding. The final chapters changed everything for me: at first, I thought the ending was abrupt, but the twist rearranged everything and made sense of the entire experience.

The book pushed me through many conflicting emotions and that is exactly what a good dark romance should do. It’s a short novella, but is really well written: the tension, the emotions and the final reveal, everything just works. This story is dark, so please check the trigger warnings before starting.

Thank you to the author for the ARC. This review reflects my honest thoughts.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review.

This is the story of Lily. She has been with her husband for twenty years. They use to have an amazing relationship but there is so much missing from it now. She had two teenage sons and her husband does help with the boys. But that's about all he really does. She is basically the housekeeper, the taxi driver and the one that is expected to do everything that needs to be done. She is very much a woman who is taken from granted on a daily basis. She really feels the need to schedule time with her husband who nine times out of ten is not even home, but even that ends up being all about him and no consideration is given to her. She is going to try one last time by planning a trip to Italy to celebrate their anniversary. If this doesn't work I think she knows in her heart what she needs to do. However, she ends up leaving on that trip by herself because her husband is working. This is all I am going to tell you about what happens in this book. You need to keep in mind that this book is a dark one, that not everything you read is going to be all revealed right in the moment and I think you need to keep an open mind until you get to the very end. I have read this novella before several times. It was first released in the now banned anthology BEND. That book was quickly banned and I was lucky enough to get a copy at a book signing from one of the authors. The first time I read this book I remember that it shocked me a little but I love it every time I read or reread it. I love this story and like I said always wait till the end until you judge a story. This is a novella I have read many times and will continue to.

Unraveled is a deviation from Kristy’s usual type of books, it was dark, it was thought provoking, and seductive/erotic in subject matter. It’s the story of a couple Lily and Anderson Archer who have been married for fifteen years. Together they have two young boys, a busy schedule and a husband whose marriage is shared not only with Lily but also with his job. Through the years Lily had lost herself being a wife, mom and family scheduler.

Feeling the spark between them had gone out Lily’s desire to rekindle the romance and s+x from the early years of their marriage. Plus, Anderson was spending increased time running his company… especially when a crisis arose. Lily planned a trip to Italy for the two of them to celebrate their 15th Anniversary. Hoping it would be a chance to reconnect and add a little spice back into their relationship. After weeks of planning meals, scheduling things for the boys, and double checking Lily had everything set for Anderson to meet her in Italy.

But the dreadful call came that there was an emergency at one of the plants. Anderson had to go but not before he totally tried to reassure and soften the blow by reassuring his love for her and that he would make this up. Frustration filled Lily, once again her heart was shattered. Would they ever get on the same page again?

Later that evening as Lily sat alone in the hotel bar her life would be forever change!

“One drink. One nod. That’s all it took to unravel everything.”
“Her husband forgot how to see her.”
“Her captor refuses to look away.”

**This is a rerelease of an earlier version of Unraveled. To me there is more depth to the book and the ending just makes it feel complete.

When I first read this novella back in 2014, it felt incredibly tabooerotic, forbidden, a little scandalous—and I loved every bit of it. At the time, few authors were writing stories like this, and those who did were known for their dark, edgy style. This novella appeared in an anthology that was only available briefly because this particular story was too much for many readers and ended up being pulled from Amazon.

Rereading it now, more than ten years later, the storyline doesn’t feel quite as taboo or shocking. While I still enjoyed all the steamy scenes, I found myself more drawn to Lily’s feelings of being overlooked and unimportant. Her husband seems more irritated by her than anything, her sons treat her with disrespect, and all three men in her family take her for granted. She wavers between standing up for herself and keeping the peace.

Everything changes when Lily ends up in Italy alone after her husband decides work is more important than celebrating their fifteenth anniversary together. That’s when her world flips upside down. She experiences something terrifying yet thrilling, finds herself in a situation she never imagined (or maybe secretly had), and is flooded with emotions—especially guilt. Even though she’s being held captive, she feels truly seen for the first time in ages, treated with such devotion that fear turns into desire, and pain blurs into pleasure until she doesn’t know whether to cry for help or cry out in ecstasy.

I remembered the twist from my first read, but Kristy’s added content this time around brought the story full circle—and I loved it just as much.

3.5 rounded to 4 stars where needed. I am voluntarily writing this honest review after reading a #gifted ARC as a member of the author’s ARC Team via Valentine PR. UNRAVELED, a novella by K Bromberg, was rereleased today, revamped and re-edited. Eleven years ago, this story was controversial, but given that dark romance is popular now, it has been taken out, shined up and new content added. It is a very spicy, open door, first person, dual POV (but only one chapter,) contemporary dark romance novella which includes tropes such as er0tic romance, non/dub-consent, captor/captive, kidnapped, power imbalance, and taboo. Lily’s husband chose work over their fifteenth anniversary trip to Italy, and dashed her hopes that they would reconnect and find the spark in their marriage again. Lily found herself alone in Italy, taken captive by a man who whispered promises in the dark that she should have feared, yet her body craved. What terrified her the most wasn’t the restraints, it was how the terror turned to desire and her body betrayed her. Once it was over, she would have to decide whether she would allow it to destroy her or awaken something in her she could no longer live without. I will admit to the guilty pleasure of dark romance, rarely read trigger warnings, and have enjoyed some non/dub-con stories in the past. However, I will admit that this one fell a little outside my comfort zone. It is for this reason that I scored it below 4. The novella was well written and paced, utilizing flashbacks to take Lily from memories of her life to her captivity very effectively. At no time did it feel either slow or rushed. It is really dark stuff, though the ending helped me leave the book on a positive note. While I wasn’t completely surprised by the surprise ending, I also didn’t suspect at all until I was almost finished the entire novella. It was masterfully well written, and if this level of dark romance is your jam, then you are the reader for whom I would recommend this book. The ebook can be found in KU.

✨ UnRaveled by K. Bromberg — Review ✨

UnRaveled is not just a romance. It is a slow unfurling of two people who have every reason to guard their hearts, and yet somehow find safety in each other long before they are ready to admit it.

Destroyer “Tack” and Aria are a collision of trauma, heat, restraint, and undeniable chemistry. Their story is built on careful tension: the push and pull of wanting someone you know you should not want, the gentle unraveling of walls that have been built over years of pain, and the fierce pull of a connection neither of them knows how to walk away from.

Tack is complicated in all the best ways. He is brooding, disciplined, devastatingly protective, and hiding more emotion behind his silence than most men express in words. Aria is strong even when she does not feel it, fighting for her independence and her heart with a quiet resilience that makes you love her instantly. Together they burn slow, then hot, then absolutely combust.

K. Bromberg balances steam, emotional healing, and suspense effortlessly. The pacing never drags, the character growth feels earned, and the moments of vulnerability hit harder than expected. Tack learning to soften, Aria learning to trust… it is messy, tender, and completely addictive.

By the end, it is not just a romance. It is a reminder that sometimes the right person does not fix you. They simply hold the pieces steady while you learn to rebuild yourself.

A beautifully intense, character driven love story that digs a little deeper than you expect.
Five stars. Emotional, steamy, healing, and unforgettable.

3.75 stars

This was my first K. Bromberg novel, so I went in with zero expectations and no familiarity with her writing style. I’ll admit that the first two chapters felt a bit confusing, but by chapter three everything began to unfold in such a compelling way.

While dark romance isn’t my usual genre, I was completely drawn in by Bromberg’s writing and the realism she brings to her characters and their thoughts, emotions, and reactions all felt incredibly authentic. I think many readers, especially those who have experienced long-term relationships of any kind, will find pieces of themselves in Lily. This story isn’t afraid to dig into the messy, complicated layers of love and loyalty.

Despite being a shorter book, it’s packed with detail, and I found myself constantly wondering how things would end. I had theories, but the twists kept me guessing and second-guessing in the best way. Bromberg does an excellent job of holding the reader’s attention from start to finish.

I have mixed feelings about some of the male characters, but overall I appreciated the story and the way each character’s perspective and choices made sense—especially once the prologue comes into play. The flashbacks were also placed thoughtfully and added emotional depth without disrupting the flow.

Short, intense, and surprisingly impactful, this was a great read.

*Please check the Trigger/Content Warnings before reading this book!*

Thank you to Valentine PR and K. Bromberg for the ARC!

3.75stars-UNRAVELED by K. Bromberg is a stand alone, contemporary, adult erotic, novella focusing on married, mother Lily Archer. UNRAVELED is a re-release of the author’s book by the same name.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from first person perspective (Lily) using present day and memories from the past, with a final chapter from Anderson, UNRAVELED follows Lily Archer as travels to Italy to celebrate her fifteenth wedding anniversary alone. Lily’s husband Anderson backed out due to an emergency at work but Lily’s one-woman vacation was about to become very complicated when she is drugged, abducted and held hostage by a stranger, a man who makes all of her sexual fantasies come true.

The world building is fast and furious and covers but a few days in the life with several flashback memories as our couple struggle with their relationship. Lily misses her husband and her family, the only thing tethering our heroine to the here and now but like the pages from a romance novel, all of her fantasies are about to come true.

UNRAVELED is a fast paced, quick read; a novella length story focusing on one woman’s desires in the wake of the stagnation of her marriage. The character driven premise is erotic and provocative but very predictable; the characters are passionate and intense.

Wow K. Bromberg did it again I’m still in shock if u love dark romance with some bdsm then this book is for you and omg the spice in it I couldn’t put it down

Lilly has always carried silent, dangerous desires—longing for control to be taken from her, for pleasure to be pushed past the edge of reason. But when she’s taken by a stranger, those fantasies twist into something she never expected. Her mind screams no, yet her body answers yes, reacting to every touch, every command, every forbidden sensation.

She never imagined her own desires would turn against her. Wishes have a way of coming true… but never without a cost. And now she’s forced to ask herself: What price is she willing to pay when the man in the dark isn’t her husband, but a complete stranger?

In the shadows, he toys with her senses—heat then ice, velvet then steel, softness followed by pain—never letting her predict what comes next. The confusion leaves her unraveling, questioning everything she thought she knew about who she was and what she wanted.

Some men are born knowing how to please a woman. Others must learn. And this man… he’s teaching Anderson exactly what his wife has been craving all along.

But once it’s over, Lilly is left with burning questions she can’t escape:
Will guilt consume her?
Will she admit the truth about her hunger?
And when she returns home, can she ever live the same life again?
