An escort, a doctor and an asexual log on to a chat room…
TRANSGRESS is a story of fantasy rooted in reality.
Exploration, identity and sexuality are uncensored as stories unfold between an online forum and in-person encounters.
What are the limits when no limits are set? Are things really unacceptable if everyone consents? Those questions might not be answered, but the explicit, uncut journey is all part of the ride.
TRANSGRESS follows the encounters of a male escort, told through a series of online reviews and shared through the eyes of his clients. Whether it's a reclusive body piercer, a lonely forty-something or a confused asexual, he's happy to show up and help people explore those desires that not everyone finds tasteful. [This story centres queer characters, and features mature/graphic themes. Content warnings can be found on the final page of this book.]
Hiding out somewhere in the English countryside, writing stuff that I'm not sure how to categorize. Inspired by Dennis Cooper and late night doom-scrolling.
I really enjoyed this book! I found it unique in the fact that the story happens between reviews and between the different characters. The only thing I didn’t like was there wasn’t more splatterpunk in this book. The trigger warnings would make you think there was a lil more blood and gore. But overall for the first book by R. H. Mills well done!
ARC Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I went into this book with no expectations and was ready for just about anything as a Splatterpunk and horror lover. I was not prepared to feel the range of emotions I felt for these characters. All of Mills’ characters are deeply flawed in their own ways and the author has given them all so much heart and depth. I really want to know what is to come for Patrick, Soren and Toby. I really don’t want their stories to be over.
Queer extreme horror in its best form. I loved everything about this book, from the characters to the framing device to the gore... all of it was fantastic. The reviews/message board posts in between each chapter did so much for pacing and tension building and really helped my easily distractable brain from tearing through this book in one sitting.
Short but absolutely fantastic! can't wait to read more from this author!
This book had me doing the perfect combo of oohs, aahs & awes… and a few eeks. I didn’t expect to get as invested in the characters as I did but I was absolutely hooked. Amazing exploration of queer and kink stories with the perfect amount of gore.
Possibly bias as a weird transmasc medfet lover, but this book was so impactful for its scale. It’s giving Dennis Cooper but thru the lense of a modern queer (with a bit more emphasis on consent).
Will definitely be seeking out physical copies and more of the authors work as he continues to publish (:
I loved the fact that this book used reviews to tell a story. It reminded me a lot of Dennis Cooper. We meet very different characters, all of whom are unique. Despite their sometimes extreme tastes and personalities, they all feel incredibly real. A great queer, transgressive, and extreme story.
