“Love is a curse. It can kill and you are far too precious to risk losing.”
Melanie once vowed to never marry if not for love. But when her father traps her in a scandal with a man of his choice, a wild, desperate plan begins to form inside her mind…
The last thing Duke Victor expected was for his enemy’s betrothed to storm into his office and propose they wed instead. However his agreement comes with rules, and more importantly, a Christmas.
One month. One castle. Both determined to keep their distance. Until she learns he has banished Christmas from his home, and love from his heart.
Now, to save the holidays, she must uncover the truth behind his bitterness… even if it means losing her heart to the man who swore he had none left to give.

I think I enjoyed this one the most out of my holiday reads thus far but it still felt too rushed and nonsensical. The romance portion was fine and if it had just been about that and their having to meet in the middle over conflicting traumas, that would have been enough. But the addition of Lord Colton just didn't make sense. Like, why was he so hung up on Melanie??? Especially when he was supposedly an eligible bachelor who was a good match (monetarily). You're telling me no one else was interested?? Also, I feel like I recall it being mentioned he was really old - so how in the world did he have the energy to do all that he did?
But even then, at least there was resolution to the Colton story line. That letter about Christopher? NO resolution. What even was the point? Someone hated the guy enough to enrage his father into murder but ... what, we're supposed to just not be curious about who that might have been?? I haven't looked to see if there are others in this series/universe yet and maybe that's a storyline that will be resolved later - but also it preemptively does not make sense for that to be resolved in any story other than Victor's.

Christmas tragedy turns into Christmas bliss for Victor when he agrees to protect Melanie from her father and Colton by marring her. Very good read even though there wasn't much romance.
