Terror, doomed to decompose for all eternity, runs a high-stakes private eye firm. But after eliminating who he was told was a very bad guy, Terror learns he's been had - he's just murdered a major government intelligence chief. Now, he is on the run to clear his name.
This story is much well well paced. The graphic violence is intense and for this type of character and gimmick it works. The edgy tone helps and with love being the theme, but as a con it isn't fully tapped into alongside nihilism since the antagonists- Deaths Reigh is Nihilistic but dialed up to an extreme. Could've been tackled more. But overall it's definitely worth it and read it if you like the hardcore unrestricted stuff (like the Boys but with more substance)
An undead skull-zombie with a very important armored left arm has finally, after seven centuries, found a purpose as an American detective-assassin. Hired to kill the sinister puppet who controls Homeland Security (obviously a setup), he realizes it's all too late only when all history breaks loose and he's turned into a sewer-bound slurry.
In contrast to David Lapham's genuinely creepy and unnerving work with Stray Bullets, this is more a hybrid of Peter Jackson's Dead Alive and Get Smart -- a hilarious, often poignant, action-packed comic that plays immortality and gore for laughs, which obviously throws up some very bizarre moments. For example our protagonist's somewhat evasive "self" inhabits a very sad squished frog and an abusive douchebag stepdad: his immortality is dependent on reusing various bodies and brains. Artist Patrick Zircher takes it to the next level with his realistic rendering of, y'know, zombie frogs and skulls french-kissing eager heroines. Very fun and perhaps even packed with historiographical grossout metaphors about our current security state.
Boy, I really wanted to like this book. It has a great concept; a centuries-old rotting corpse who is also a private eye. Wish I would have thought of that! Unfortuately, after a very interesting back story, the book just devolves into a very bloody custody batttle...over an arm! Yes, that's also a funny idea, but I wish the humor of it was played up more instead of the gore and blood. I would have enjoyed a more complicated plot and more wisecracks. I did like the art, but overall the book did very little for me.
