Ever wondered who Maddie’s and Lucy’s sister Rachel ends up with? Discover it in a spin-off set in the L.A. Hawks Hockey universe!
She believes in love at first sight. He believes in prenups at second glance.
Connor is a divorce attorney with a flawless track record—and zero faith in happily-ever-after. To him, marriage is just a legal loophole for tax breaks and green cards. Attraction and chemistry? Sure. Soulmates and dream girls? Absolute nonsense. Just like the ridiculous matchmaking agency that just moved in a few doors down from his office—promising true love and fairy tales. Its founder? A too-perky, way-too-mouthy psychologist who drives him crazy with every smirk and smug remark.
Rachel is a couples therapist, body and soul. And arrogant cynics like Connor, who believe in money and muscle more than emotions, make her want to scream into a throw pillow. Or hit them with her clipboard. Relationships are meant to be saved, not tossed aside. Compatibility can be measured, real love can be predicted—and her self-developed dating app proves it. If she has to, she'll show that infuriatingly attractive lawyer exactly how wrong he is... the hard way.
When sparks fly and tempers flare, there’s only one way to settle the One bet. Two rivals. Zero chance of staying out of each other’s business—or their beds. The odds of both losing their minds … and hearts? One hundred percent. Perfect for new readers – can be read as a standalone.
I have always enjoyed Sierra Lewis’ stories. She brings her readers fun books, delivering spice and heat, while balancing it with the perfect emotional struggles. This balance allows for the story to remain intriguing, complex, and layered while the MCs grow closer and closer. In her latest release, The (Hate) Love Bet, our MCs find themselves on opposing views about love and that creates instant tension and chemistry. Set in the LA Hawks universe that I already love, I am excited for a new series from Sierra also.
Rachel is a couple therapist who is dealing with her own troubles. Having returned home from Chicago, she is dealing with things from the past and the present that she is keeping secret. Match Me! is the business she co-owns with her sister and she full heartedly believes in what their mission is. Then she meets her neighbor, who is the complete opposite in mindset when it comes to love. He is not quiet or shy about sharing his beliefs either.
Connor is a jaded divorce lawyer who doesn’t believe in love or marriage. So when he discovers his new neighbor co-owns Match Me! he knows they aren’t going to get along. What better way to prove Rachel’s fondness of love wrong, by entering a bet that will prove his beliefs are correct. However, the longer this bet goes on and the more he and Rachel spend time together, the harder it is for him to not fall for her.
Sierra always gives her readers characters that are easy to connect to and want to see succeed. I really liked how Connor and Rachel start out and slowly change to something deeper and more real than either ever expected. As they start off as complete opposites, it isn’t long before they are realizing they have more in common than thought and the attraction is getting harder and harder to ignore. Passion is felt throughout this book in both the characters and how Sierra writes. Another hit from Sierra!
As always, review any author notes before reading.
What to Expect: 💘Opposites Attract 💫Enemies to Lovers 💘Lots of Sass 💫Neighbors 💘Therapist FMC 💫Divorce Lawyer MMC
Sierra Lewis excels at writing funny, easy-to-read romances with just the right amount of spice, and The (Hate) Love Bet is no exception. In fact, this one even had me welling up at one point.
Rachel, a couples therapist, and Connor, a divorce lawyer, immediately clash over their opposing views on relationships, which leads to an impulsive bet. As they date others in search of “the one,” they slowly learn more about each other—and inevitably begin to fall for one another themselves. Their banter is sharp and entertaining, but what really stood out was how deeply they understood each other in a way no one else did. The spicy scenes were well written and felt natural to the story, never overdone or included just for the sake of it.
While the overall premise was interesting, the pacing felt slightly off for me at the beginning. Rachel and Connor meet and make the bet very quickly, without much buildup or prior interaction. The ending was fairly predictable, but honestly, that’s sometimes exactly what I want from a romance novel. Although I personally prefer first-person POV over third-person, the writing was strong enough that I still felt connected to the characters. One particularly emotional moment involved Rachel opening up about her past to her sisters, and that scene genuinely got to me.
I really enjoyed this book and loved that it’s set in the same universe as the L.A. Hawkes Hockey series. I’d happily pick up the next one. If you’re looking for a romance featuring slightly older characters (mid-30s), plenty of humor, and emotional depth alongside the spice, The (Hate) Love Bet is well worth a read.
a story about a couple therapist who carries a lot of secrets. she distant herself from her family, but is now back to try and find order in her life. however. she didnt count on the hot divorce lawyer next door who really pushes her buttons, has a gigantic ego, doesnt believe in her questionnaire for finding love, and is so arrogant she has to knock him down a few notches by making a bet on finding a person to have a serious long-term relationship with, and they have 5 dates each.
I give this book 5 stars out of 5 stars beacuse it was so amazing! I love that each chapter starts with a qoute from eigher FMC or MMC followed by a snide comment from the other one! I loved the dual pov, the characters and their growth, the story and the plot. I would have enjoyed a little bit more of the L.A Hawk guys since the two sisters of the FMC is dating them, but the little part they had was really funny. I laughed so much with this book. and my heaft ached so much in the end.
Sierra Lewis really has a certain style with her romcoms, and they always leave me in love with the characters, wanting more and for the books to never end.
I can recommend this to anyone who enjoys funny romance, or is looking for a new genre with love.
The (Hate) Love Bet had me hooked from page one! Set in the same world as the L. A. Hawks, we get to see what happens at Sunshine Pier and at Match Me!.
Rachel, Lucy and Maddie’s sister, has finally come home from Chicago, but she comes with her own set of secrets. Connor, the divorce lawyer that doesn’t believe in marriage, has found another Match Me! member to cross swords with.
What happens when these two meet leads to a ton of great banter, laughs, tension, and steam as they circle around the truth. Rachel is truly a wild spirit hiding behind a perfect mask that she thinks the world finds acceptable, which is something many of us can relate to. Connor is determined to win and doesn’t mind a few sneaky tactics to do so. Their battle with each other brings their story to life and will have you loving these characters.
You also get to meet new character and revisit some favorites in the day to day at Sunshine Pier. I love getting to see characters from previous books and meet ones that I hope continue to show up. There might even be a few more animals in the office than when you last visited.
Come take a walk on Sunshine Pier and enjoy the show as Rachel and Connor try to win their bet.
What do you get when you put together a strong-willed lawyer and an opinionated couple’s therapist? A fiery chemistry hard to deny and control. When Connor and Grace place a bet with too many personal risks involved, they end up in each other’s lives and businesses, driving each other insane and pushing each other’s buttons and limits. On the outside they are complete opposites, but in reality, they share too much of their own fears and scars. Their lives have been weighed down by the pressure of family secrets and their determination to protect their siblings from getting hurt. Their chemistry is off the charts, but their views on love are different. While Connor is arrogant and true cynic about forever love and marriage, Grace still wants to believe in a future with someone special. A story about two rivals who learn that love can take different forms, can show itself in many different ways, but in the long run all that matters is the support and commitment shown. Sierra Lewis writes a beautiful story about two soulmates who struggle to believe in that concept, but are proven wrong. Thank you for the ARC.
There hasn’t been one sierra lewis book that I haven’t LOVED! Her writing just sucks you in, invests you in the characters and makes you laugh out loud at times (scheduling an interview instead of a date?! (Iykyk)
Rachel is back in town with her sisters after years of being away. Except now, she’s got secrets and guilt ridding her from her past and present. She is the co-owner of “Match Me!”, the dating site that her and her sister started. She immediately meets Connor, the divorce lawyer next door who doesn’t believe in love or marriage and they immediately hate each other. They enter into a bet that, using their own methods, will meet their forever person. Except, the more dates they go on, and fail at, the more they get to know each other 😉
Loved the sexual tension between these two.. and LOVE the entire friend family group from the other series. This book made me laugh out loud several times 😂
♥️ enemies to lovers | opposites attract | he falls first
I was looking forward to Connor’s story, and it did not disappoint. The cynical divorce lawyer who doesn’t believe in love and marriage falling for the couple’s therapist? I’m sold. Their banter and chemistry is undeniable since the first time Connor met Rachel.
They drive each other insane with the progress of a bet they made the first time they met, but they are undeniably attracted to each other’s orbit, even though they do not realise why they are pulled to each other so intensely.
I loved this book so much because even though on the surface Rachel and Connor could not be more differen, they are pretty similar because of what they suffered in their childhood.
This is a wonderful story of how love can take as many shapes as it needs, as long as there’s a strong foundation and commitment between lovers.
A couples therapist vs a divorce lawyer - the ultimate archenemies, especially when they share the same street! Despite bringing out the worst in each other, Connor and Rachel are actually very similar people, both smart, gorgeous and fiercely protective of their loved ones. Watching them try to outdo each other on their separate dates was hilarious, full of banter, sass and undeniable chemistry, one they simply can’t ignore. A perfect enemies to lovers rom com connected to the LA Hawks hockey series.
I voluntarily reviewed a free advance copy of this book provided by the author. The opinions expressed are my own
Sierra has a really unique way of writing that I thoroughly enjoy. It's very British-like, so it brought me back to my childhood, when I grew up reading books written by British authors. Her characters, Connor and Rachel, could not be more opposite in their careers, but they're very similar in terms of personality. I loved how their fights were realistic as two people who actually care their jobs, and while I was worried their bet would be a detriment to the story, it tied in very nicely. I'm excited for the next book in the series!
