Opposites attract in this small town omegaverse monster romance when Morgan Foxglove discovers the grumpy werewolf contracted to be her bodyguard is also her fated mate.
The family curse was supposed to just be a story. But after returning to her quaint home town for her grandmother’s funeral, Morgan discovers that not only is the curse real—her inheritance has been signed over to an alphahole werewolf in exchange for his protection.
Sylvan is bound to be Morgan’s bodyguard by a contract no amount of magic can unravel. It’s too bad he cannot stand the helpless witch. Her spells are useless. She whines about the fur he leaves around the house every time he shifts. She’s constantly running into things and injuring herself. The little witch is bound to drive him wild.
But now, Morgan and Sylvan have no choice but to spend nine months in the same gothic manor together to complete the terms of the deal. Nine months of protection, nine months of being knotted together by fate. To make matters worse, the longer they live together, they discover a problem more concerning than the danger lurking around town or their ridiculous arrangement.
The grumpy werewolf and wicked witch just might love each other.

Unfortunately the only reason I got through this book was because I held out so much hope that it would get better. Every Clio Evans book I’ve read I have enjoyed, and was really hoping this would be the same. The characters were fine, the omegaverse aspect was alright, and if the smut had been a little bit more spread out it would’ve been good too. What really killed this book for me though was the pacing. I wasn’t really a fan of all the time jumps, had we gotten just a couple more scenes of inbetween each full moon this book easily could’ve been 3 stars. Instead, what we got was one mention of the plot at the beginning of the book and then it got completely ignored for the mating on the full moons and then shoved back into our face and resolved within like 10 pages. Honestly if the whole curse plot had been forgotten and it just had been a book where Morgan’s crazed grandma bound her to the werewolf for 9 months, and it had been just about Morgan and Silvan falling in love with eachother - the book would’ve been great. It just wasn’t fun to read and by 70% I was skimming majority of it and skipping the smut altogether. Normally I wouldn’t complain over too much smut, but this was excessive and made the secondary plot of the curse feel incredibly rushed and forced. I’m giving this book 2 stars because I do think if the book had just focused on Morgan and Silvan and completely ignored the curse plot line, I probably would’ve really enjoyed it.
This is completely my own opinion. Thank you to The Smuthood for an ARC.
This is easily my fave book by Clio Evans. Morgan and Sylvan were both soooooooo grumpy and constantly bickered and sniped. They both had oodles of trauma; Morgan from an abusive upbringing and Sylvan from survivor’s guilt. They had to have a slow burn to really open themselves up to the idea of love and vulnerability. The spice was on point, the mystery was well done, and the emotionality was poignant.
Spice: 5/5
Triggers: murder, violence, stabbing, death, discussion of physical and mental abuse, torture, blood, gun violence, betrayal, ostracism by entire town, designation discrimination, kidnapping, confinement, PTSD symptoms, mass murder during coup (past), mentions of child living in wild alone, grief, survivor’s guilt, loneliness, betrayal, funeral
Was this 90% Omegaverse smut? Yes. Did I enjoy it? Thoroughly!🥵🥵🥵
I haven’t read a Clio book recently mainly because some stories she writes just aren’t my jam. I’m particular. Sue me. But this WAS my jam. A MF Omegaverse with an Alpha wolf male (who does shift some) and a submissive Omega female (only in the bedroom 😉). I loved all the smut and it had a delicious push/pull with a “who’s the bad guy” plot. A little sprinkle of vulnerability, heartbreak and passion all tied up with a wonderful HEA.
If you read and loved Black Willow Witch by Suzanne Wright, you will love this as well. Same vibe with more smut.
It's been a minute since I've read a C.E. story and for a reason as I was getting more frustrated than fulfilled in reading them so I took a break.
This story is 90% smut, 10% plot and it is written in a serialized, time jump manner. I had a free day+evening and so I binged it with breaks. I think one would get more out of the story when reading it perhaps in a chapter a day/week format as opposed to in one whole sitting, but also, then again, I think I'd resent it more in such a manner. Anyway, it felt serialized to me.
We spend so much time in the just below surface level build up of Morgan+Sylvan's relationship, their heat+rut, their working on their past traumas, lots of inner monologue as to why they are not good enough for each other, then around the 85% mark this gets flipped and we are thrown into the meaty plot of the book and I found it jarring (which makes no sense) but also so very fucking annoying when we have spent ALL of the story accepting certain characters over others, hating other characters, sort of 'reconciling' ourselves that they're going to part ways and then we are meant to just flip that script and it does not work. It doesn't.
We then get thrown into the Hollywood save the girl montage, with another ill timed time jump and I was just running towards The End because I wasn't truly invested in it.
The only plot revelation I hadn't worked out was the angle. And that hurt, as it should. The others had an over emphasis, repetition on who they are meant to be/what is not being said out loud so it is veeeerrrrryyyyy easy to work out the dots.
I liked the complementary moments/roles Morgan and Sylvan had above all else in the story. When they saw each other in the light, if you will, but they had the annoying not really openly talking about it all the time that annoyed the fuck out of me.
I expected more than the crooked/broken nose description. The over repetition of their scent descriptions drove me up the wall except for the reunification scene. While Sylvan was the cut abs description, which, at times, wasn't doing anything for me, Sylvan actually really, really loving Morgan's body was chef's kiss.
Overall, not a bad start to a series, but I think I expected more.
I got to Beta read this one and wow I loved it so much. Everything about Morgan and Sylvan call to me. They hate each other so much so the banter is top notch. The spice is SPICING and the story is awesome with delicious twists and turns. Can’t wait for you all to sink your claws into this one.

I would say overall this story is more focused on characters than plot, especially with the number of spicy scenes in the first 2/3 of the book. If you're aware of this going in, as I was, I think this would be a good read for you!
The initial setup is a little flimsy "oh no! I'm bound by my dead grandma to live with this hot shifter for 9 months" - but I didn't really care because Morgan and Sylvan have such amazing banter and sass. Their dialogue was my favourite part of the book!
And I loved the spice. There was so much teasing and variety in what was happening (despite having so many spicy scenes), and this was my first omegaverse read which was pretty exciting. I've read another of Clio's books before (Cactus Heart) and I have to say, I much prefer the spice in Moon Bite (though the other was good too).
I also adore a sentient house moment! The house "Tabby" was so cheeky and mischievous while also looking out for the pair, she was definitely one of my favourite characters! The other characters were a little flat, but again Moon Bite is here solely to make Morgan and Sylvan shine in my opinion, so I didn't really mind!
One thing that was a little tougher to appreciate was the sheer number of time jumps. Generally, the chapter(s) tend to focus on each full moon and heat that happens in the 9 months, which makes the story move very quickly.
Personally, I didn't need the "sinister" plot that underlined the entire book and came to a head very fast at the end. I would've preferred spending more time watching Morgan and Sylvan get to know one another in the funny house with their spicy heats sprinkled in. They were my favourite parts and I think I would've loved the book more as a cosy story instead!
However, I will be picking up the next book in the Hexverse series if it's main characters are anything like Morgan and Sylvan! Just make sure that if you want to read, you go in with the right expectation (and check the extensive list of triggers!).
📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Morgan returns home for her grandmother's funeral with plans to grab her inheritance and leave the town she was tortured in growing up. But at the will reading, a magical curse ties her to Sylvan, a powerful shifter bodyguard, for nine months. Now Morgan and Sylvan are butting heads, stuck inside the town she hates, and forced to endure month after month of heats where they can barely keep their hands off each other.
🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: This book had a little of everything I love in it, so it was almost impossible for me to give it anything but a 5-star review.
Strong-willed FMC with an attitude, who's plus size, confident and magical.
A broody alpha with a traumatic past and the swooniest of POVs.
All the best parts of omegaverse - with heats and ruts monthly so the book is packed with spice.
A really cool small town paranormal undertone with a story I want more of.
Clearly, the vibe of this book was my vibe. Another great example of how, if done well, spice can be an integral part of the plot. And the set up for the world left me ready to get other characters' stories, which is exactly what a first book is supposed to do.
Most paranormal reads feel best in the fall, but Clio Evans wrote this one so it read perfectly under a warm summer night.
I really enjoyed Moon Bite! It was a fairly quick and very enjoyable read. This was a particularly fun take on the forced proximity trope, which is one of my favorites!
Morgan and Sylvan had such great banter and the pacing of their relationship made a lot of sense given their pasts.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a good omegaverse with werewolves and witches.
Gosh, how I missed Clio’s writing! It’s been a minute since I’ve read one, but monster romance from Clio will always be my favorite. This one was no exception. How can I not like it when it’s omegaverse, paranormal, werewolf, witch, AAND grumpy x grumpy?! The storyline for this was amazing, I didn’t want to stop reading. The suspense at the end and just the mystery kept me wanting to come back to my kindle to read. This world was definitely interesting and I can’t wait to see if we get more!
Sylvan and Morgan were perfect for each other and the progression of their relationship was so good! The sentient house? Awesome touch too!
Okay, I thought this was just going to be a fun little book. But then the last 25% hit you with twist after twist. This was a fun romance with a good mystery to it. I didn’t expect the ending, but loved it. This was a surprising 5 star read, but I just loved the banter and then the mystery plot. ✨werewolf x witch ✨grumpy x grumpy ✨the banter 🔥 ✨sentient house ✨body guard ✨forced proximity
*~ eARC ~* This was my introduction to Clio Evans and they had me hooked immediately. A witch and a werewolf? Yes, please. I’ve read a lot of omegaverse and books with shifters but this was my first “monster” romance I guess you could say. And lemme tell you, it didn’t disappoint. I loved how much Morgan and Sylvan hated each other 😂 Their banter had me cracking up. The book was fast paced and packed with spice.
If you’re looking for the following tropes, this one is for you: - Primal play 😏 - light BDSM - Witch omega x werewolf alpha 🌙 - Grumpy x grumpy - Fated mates
Thank you so much to the author Clio and Samantha at the The Smuthood for my ARC!
The main word that comes to mind after finishing this book is, sadly, disappointed.
I’m a fan of Clio’s work and have enjoyed her more contemporary why choose books. She usually manages to fit multiple characters, a decent storyline, and solid character development into a shorter book, all with just the right amount of spice.
I had never read one of her monster romantasy books before, so I decided to give her newest release a try. Unfortunately, it just was not for me.
A lot of the writing choices felt baffling, especially the timeline. The story constantly skips ahead by a month at a time, only showing the MMC and FMC during their heat cycles. It felt incredibly jarring, especially because almost every encounter ended with some unnecessary fight or argument. Then they would spend the next month practically ignoring each other before the cycle repeated. It happened far too often and completely undermined the story. The actual plot felt forgotten for most of the book, only to be crammed into the final 20% in an attempt to wrap everything up.
Morgan, the FMC, was also incredibly frustrating. This is one of those books where I finished it thinking these two should not be together, even if they are fated mates. Both characters were stubborn to the point of being irritating, and the constant bickering was neither fun nor endearing. In most grumpy romance books, that tension eventually gives way to genuine connection. Usually by around the 40% mark you can start to see the relationship developing. Here, they were still arguing over nothing at 60%. By the end, I found myself skimming large sections and feeling completely underwhelmed by the story as a whole.
What makes it even more confusing is that Clio has written why choose books with multiple love interests where every character feels developed and important. Yet this story, which focuses on only two people, somehow felt like there was very little on the page.
This book was basically a whole lot of fucking with a little plot sprinkled in between. Seriously, these characters were hooking up *constantly*. Every chapter felt like they were either having sex, talking about sex, or discovering a new kink so they could have even more sex.
Don't get me wrong — I enjoy spice and have no problem with a steamy romance. But for me, this one crossed the line where the spice started overshadowing everything else. There was actually a pretty interesting mystery unfolding in the background, and I found myself far more invested in that than the romance. Unfortunately, it never got the attention I wanted because the story kept circling back to the bedroom.
If you're looking for an extremely spicy read with lots of kink exploration, this might be exactly your thing. But if you're hoping for a stronger balance between plot, mystery, and romance, you may end up feeling like I did — wanting a lot more from the story beyond all the steam.
not really. to be fair, i've never been a huge fan of clio evans, but the marketing got to me. i've been seeing teaser posts on instagram for months and it worked on me.
morgan foxglove is a bad witch and everyone hates her. it doesn't help that she's the only omega witch in the entire line of foxglove alphas. this is not some malingering teenaged angst or anxiety induced self-loathing made real. no, everyone HATES her. what little magic she has is dubious, at best, her grandmother hated her, her childhood friends hate her, the weird werewolf who lurks in the woods hates her too. all the more reason to wrap up her grandmother's funeral and get tf out of dodge.
sylvan last name (i genuinely do not know or remember if he was given a last name) would like to leave hex ridge. his last job was guarding maeve foxglove, the leader of the hex ridge coven, and she's dead now. but he can't leave. maeve has cursed him, and morgan, to spend the next 11 months tied to hex ridge, and her magical house, for better or for worse. heavy on the worse. as an unmated alpha, for whom rut inhibitors and heat suppressors don't work, being trapped in a house with an unmated omega he hates is the stuff of nightmares. and now there are things in the shadows shooting at them. 3/5 stars
was it enjoyable?
no. just, no. the entire premise of the story is that everyone, including sylvan, hates morgan. and we never actually learn why. there's an (middling) explanation for why her grandmother treated her so terribly, but it is literally never explained why that extends to an entire town hating an orphan child. she is literally spat on and we never find out what her great crime is. after a life time of being bullied and abused, it's simple enough to understand why morgan loathes everyone in this godforsaken backwater, but WHAT WAS THE REASON???
annoyingly, the entire book is a series of time jumps, from one full moon to the next, centred on their heat/rut cycles. fine. but we never actually get much character or relationship development outside of them first hate lusting after each other, then hate fucking each other. it's said, multiple times, that they don't talk to each other between full moons. they just co-exist in the same house, sniping at each other, between marathon hate sex sessions. what kind of relationship is this? how does this develop into "i would die for you" love?
this brings me to my final complaint — this should not have been a dual pov. i have no issue with dual pov, but this was interminable. it's literally just "i hate him, i want to fuck him," and "i hate her, i want to fuck her," for 300 pages. that's it. that's the entire plot until the last... maybe 50 pages of the book, with some "i like bdsm" sprinkled in. the few breaks we do get from this endless cycle of monologues revolve around sylvan watching morgan glow in the sun and being adamant that she has huge amounts of power with no real explanation. he doesn't have an explanation for anything by the way.
the ending is a rushed mess, because we spent the first 75% of the book watching this little soap opera play out. i actually skimmed through the last 100 pages or so, because i had figured out the twist halfway through and i didn't want to dnf it. i'm guessing the author plans to make this a larger series, and a lot of these questions will be answered, but i don't want to read anything else. 1/5 stars
was it well-written?
i guess so. i wasn't really paying close attention because i was waiting for it to be over, but there were some typos.4/5 stars
In a world full of witches, werewolves and daimons, who are also classified as Alpha's, Beta's and Omega's, Morgan is an Omega witch who has always been told she has no power and is a disgrace to the Foxglove line. As soon as she was 18, she got out of her small town only to return when her grandmother passed away. The last hurdle she had to jump through was meeting with her grandmother's lawyer for her inheritance. However, instead of getting money like she thought, she ends up getting bound/cursed to stay with her new grumpy werewolf Alpha bodyguard Sylvan. The other catches? He feels all her pain, and they must live together for 9 months. Sounds simple enough until you remember that they will go into a heat/rut each month. And they both hate each other. Should be a good time, am I right?
It in fact was a good time. Maybe not all the time, but still. This book focused a lot around their heats and ruts. There was soooo much spice, but I found it to be really well written and it kept me hooked and turning the pages. I loved that both of the MC's are grumpy and always butting heads with each other. There is just something about two grumps falling in love that has me kicking my feet each time. This was such a fantastic book, and I hope we get to see more from this town in the future!
Thank you to Smuthood and Clio Evans for providing me with an arc.
I already loved Clio Evans and everything she writes so when I learned she was writing an omegaverse shifter book I knew i had to get my hands on it. Omegaverse is literally my favorite sub genre of romance and I always love when authors I already loved from previous works write one. This was a fantastic opposites attract fated mates omegaverse set in a small town where the grumpy werewolf is forced to be the bodyguard to our fmc.
Morgan Foxglove grew up knowing that her family was cursed or at least believed that to be true but she never thought it would apply to her due to how little magic she had. But when she returns home for her grandmother’s funeral, she discovers that the curse is real and her inheritance has been signed over to an alpha werewolf in exchange for his protection. Sylvan is bound to Morgan for 9 months by a magical contract no one can undo. Sadly he can’t stand the omega witch who can’t seem to stop being clumsy. Bound together for nine months they start to discover that not everything is what it seems and maybe they might just like each other after all.
This was absolutely everything I wanted it to be. It is spicy as hell but also the romance is cute between Morgan and Sylvan. It is forced proximity and they are pushed together by fate but their friendship slowly develops also. I overall highly recommend this one if you like omegaverse or maybe want to experiment with it.
“Bite me,” she moans. She doesn’t need to ask for that more than once. I grunt as I clamp my dull teeth on her shoulder and bite down. ∘•········ʚ🐺ɞ ········•∘

――――――――― ⃟⃜⃟My beautiful angry omega witch is going to be the death of me, but for right now, she’s safe in my arms and full of my cum√√√ ……………………………
ARC Review: Paranormal, shifters, werewolves, witches - say less! 😂 You will always get me with these types of books & I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
My favorite parts of the book were all the things I think most of us enjoy - everything omegaverse, curses, dark evil shadow creatures, banter, forced proximity, spice, “enemies-to-lovers”, & fated mates.
The main two reasons I knocked it down one star is one - I didn’t love the time jumps throughout the story. I would have liked there to have been more detail included throughout the months of Morgan & Sylvan being stuck together in the mansion. This ties into the second reason - the ending. I don’t feel as if it was rushed per se, but again, I would have liked there to have been more detail included as to how everything unfolded and in the months we didn’t get to see on page.
Overall, it was an entertaining read & I’ll be looking forward to reading the second book once it’s available.
Thank you to the author & The Smuthood for the early read!
I’m a huge Clio Evans fan and I love both her contemporary and monster romances. This one is such a fantastic start to a new series, love the characters and can’t wait for it to continue.
Loved Morgan & Sylvan’s dynamic! Fated mates, forced proximity and enemies-to-lovers is the perfect recipe for chemistry. When you add in the banter and the bond that forces him to experience her pain? Pristine! More men should be able to experience menstrual cramps.
The tension and suspense in this one was so good and really ramps up at the end. I think there’s a lot more to explore in this department as it relates to the Council and Sylvan’s role as heir and I hope we get more in future installments. Hoping for more Zach too!
The spice was explicit and delightful, but dare I say NOT as kinktastic as other Clio Evans’ monster books? There were no stingers or eggs at least.
This book was so much more different from the others I’ve read by Clio. I loved that because it was unexpected. I went into it completely blind with no expectations and fell in love. God did I fall for Sylvan. Hard not to when you love a good broody and moody MMC. And I always love that Clio loves to throw in a strong and beautiful curvy FMC. Plus made her hot by and witchy yes please! The yearning and slow burn between Morgan and Sylvan kept me on the edge just waiting for them to give in. The sparks and the lust and connection between them was swoonworthy. Plus I definitely did not realize this was an omegaverse book. I always love a good alpha/omega romance. Knots, heats, full moons the works. And yes the spicy was definitely 10/10 but that wasn’t all. I loved their banter and their constant bickering back and forth. It made their connection just that much better.
This book made me so feral!😫 I seriously couldn’t put it down and I hated every second that I wasn’t reading it. This is Omegaverse done right! Honestly, if you’re getting more into Omegaverse, I think this great to read!
The banter is this is so freaking good. I was laughing throughout this book. The arguing between the two was so real! I love how Morgan never backed down or spared feelings. She gave Sylvan a piece of her mind and didn’t care how it care across.
Sylvan was so grumpy, even I was mentally yelling at him!🤣 but who doesn’t love a grumpy man. He is very OTT possessive and protective. I loved that about him. He has his own way of protecting others, butttttt he is very thorough.
The spice is everything! It’s filled with so much heat that it will leave you aching in places you would want to be touched. If you love knotting, breeding, bdsm, dom/sub dynamics and primal chasing, then you will love this!
*I got this as an arc, and I’m voluntarily leaving a review.*
This book felt like living inside a gothic paranormal fever dream in the best way possible.
A cursed inheritance. A chaotic witch. A grumpy werewolf bodyguard. And nine months trapped together in a manor full of secrets.
Morgan and Sylvan were absolute opposites from the start. She’s messy, emotional, and constantly finding new ways to accidentally injure herself. He’s cold, overprotective, growly, and convinced she’s going to drive him insane. Naturally, the tension between them was EVERYTHING.
The slow burn mixed with the fated mate bond worked so well because neither of them wanted to admit what was happening. But the more time they spent together, the softer Sylvan became, and I was completely gone for him.
This was cozy paranormal romance mixed with danger, curses, magic, found family vibes, and a romance that turns feral in the best way.
I really wanted to love this book, every book I’ve read by Clio has been 4-5 stars but unfortunately I just didn’t vibe with this one. The writing was great, the plot was great, the spice was great. I think for me it was just not enough on page relationship development outside of full moons. I like when the main focus is the romance, this one the romance was more like the second storyline with the curse being the main one. I understand why the MCs didn’t bond earlier in the book but I was a bit disappointed to only see them as a bonded couple for about .02 seconds.
I would say if you’re a heavy on the plot lover you’ll really like this book. This was definitely heavy on the story building and low on the romance.
I was chosen to receive an ARC of this book, and this is my honest review:
The positive: Nicely queer-normative and kink-positive. I’m sure this will appeal to a lot of people, and that plenty of people will love it.
The rest (my honest thoughts which are strictly my own opinion): Unfortunately this book just wasn’t really for me, I’m sorry. By about 1/8 of the way in, I was already checked out, and skimmed through the rest. I didn’t connect with the characters, and in truth everything just missed the mark for me, I’m sorry.
Thank you for the ARC and the opportunity to provide an honest review in exchange. This review is entirely my own opinion.
Moon Bite was a fairly quick and enjoyable book. I love paranormal romance and omegaverse so when I saw this book I instantly wanted to read it. As far as the book itself, it was enjoyable, as I mentioned, however I was hoping for more. More plot and story line than spice. This book definitely brought the spice. It's in every chapter. But the storyline seemed to have been lost underneath it. This book has the potential to be amazing and while I did enjoy it, I wish I had enjoyed it more. That being said my 3 stars could be your 5 stars so if you enjoy paranormal romance, omegaverse, a lot of spice, heats, ruts, witches, werewolves, forced proximity, fated mates, and a bit of suspected, I definitely recommend you give it read!
Moon Bite was such a fun surprise! I picked this up expecting a super spicy paranormal romance, and while it definitely delivered on the spice, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the story too.
Morgan Foxglove and Sylvan are both incredibly grumpy, stubborn, and determined to get on each other’s nerves. This wasn’t a classic grumpy x sunshine romance at all. It was more grumpy x grumpy, which led to some hilarious banter and tension-filled moments. Watching these two slowly go from barely tolerating each other to something much more was so entertaining.
The plot kept me invested, the paranormal elements were fun, and the forced proximity worked really well. But let’s be honest… the spice was the real star of the show here. This book earned every single one of those five peppers. 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶
Overall, this was a really enjoyable read with a great balance between romance, humor, paranormal mystery, and seriously steamy moments. If you enjoy omegaverse romance, forced proximity, grumpy characters, and a whole lot of spice, this one is definitely worth picking up.
This was a perfect Omegaverse! I loved the twist on witches, daimons, and werewolves and that this book had mystery and suspense!
Sylvan is such a hot, broody werewolf and Morgan is such a sassy witch. I really loved the pacing of this book - focusing on the full moons when Alphas go into ruts and Omegas go into heats. Sylvan and Morgan may be bound by Morgan's late grandmother by magic so Sylvan can protect Morgan - but that doesn't stop the pull they have to each other outside that bond. But Morgan definitely questions whether or not that's the case and Sylvan refuses to accept that Morgan might be his mate for fear of putting her in danger. There's so much more that connects Morgan and Sylvan and when Morgan is taken, secrets unravel and and Morgan and Sylvan realize that nothing will stop either of them from being together moving forward.
I was immediately hooked and the tension between the MMC and FMC was off the charts and really leaned in to the enemies to lovers trope and I was so here for it. I can't wait to see what Clio gifts us with next! Clio Evans is quickly becoming an automatic read for me.
Thank you to The Smuthood for the opportunity to read an ARC of Moon Bite!
