Beyond the Shadows is a compelling collection of Immortal Accords short stories from author Anna Hawke. This collection features a never-before-published novella, Of Broken Wolves. Jaeda, a Raeth healer, has the powerful ability to foresee mating bonds. When she discovers her own mate, she grapples with the danger of Malik’s breaking up an immortal cage fighting ring where no one is safe from their clutches.
In Into A Cursed Hollow, Mariana, a vampire Ambassador with the World Immortal Federation, is sent to the small town of Sleepy Hollow to investigate a suspicious murder. What she discovers is that the renown legend is far from fable—and exposing the one behind it could put her at the wrong end of a cavalry sabre.
A Winter’s Tail is a cozy holiday paranormal romcom. This Christmas, Abraham, the beta of a powerful werewolf pack, is given his most deadly mission cookie management. When he’s paired with a gorgeous wind Elemental for their yearly scavenger hunt, he might just have met his match.
A devastating plea for help. A burning need for revenge. A collision course of two souls fated for one another. In Through Dark Tides, no one is safe from the terror that haunts Coral Reef. Either water Elemental Nix and polar bear shifter Finn will rise to the challenge and defeat their enemies—or they’ll drown beneath the waves.
Anna Hawke is a paranormal romance novelist dedicated to bringing to life the voices inside her head. With a degree in Journalism and a vested interest in grammatical perfection, Anna’s written works contain sarcasm, spark, and sexy alpha males too handsome for their own good.
When she isn’t busy wrangling her three young children, gorgeous husband, and an opinionated grey tabby, Anna enjoys reading romance novels, riding horses, and traveling to places where hiking boots are required. Writing, however, is her favorite pastime, and Anna loves nothing more than pouring herself a 24 oz mug of tea, wrapping herself in a blanket, and giving her imaginary friends a voice.
Review for „Beyond the Shadows: An immortal Accord Anthology” by Anna Hawke
„Beyond the Shadows: An immortal Accord Anthology” is an anthology written by Anna Hawke and it consists of four novellas which are as follows: “Into a Cursed Hollow” (pp. 9 – 107) that tells the story of Mariana, a vampire Ambassador of the World Immortal Federation, that is sent to the small town of Sleepy Hollow to investigate a suspicious murder. What she discovers is that the renowned legend is far from fable – and exposing the one behind it could put her at the wrong end of the cavalry saber. “A Winter’s Tale” (pp. 119 – 167) is a cozy holiday paranormal romcom. This Christmas, Abraham, the beta of the powerful werewolf pack, is given his most deadly mission cookie management. When he’s paired with a gorgeous wind Elemental for their yearly scavenger hunt, he might just have met his match. A devastating plea for help. A burning need for revenge. A collision curse of two souls fated for one another. In “Through Dark Tides” (pp. 181 – 261), no one is safe from the terror that haunts Coral Reef. Either water Elemental Nix and polar bear shifter Finn will rise to the challenge and defeat enemies – or they’ll drown beneath the waves. “Of Broken Wolves” (pp. 279 – 385) tells the story of Malik, a Senior Ambassador of the World Immortal Federation that still tries to find his place in the world despite his flawless reputation and the story of Jaeda, a Raeth that is sent away by her sovereign to spend two weeks in Kitty Hawk with his friends. Fate has other plans for the two immortals. Will each find what they are looking for or are they destined for something else? The author attracts the readers through the simple writing style that can be easily digested. There are a few similarities to Washington Irving’s “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”, crime novels and a bit of romance in “Into a Cursed Hollow”; to Jack London’s “White Fang” and “The Call of the Wild” in “Of Broken Wolves”. Friendship, love, kindness, cleverness, perseverance, self-discipline, teamwork, bravery, harmony, peace, seriousness, modesty, determination, family, patience, respect, communication are some of the themes discussed throughout the anthology, but the writer doesn’t shy away from tackling serious issues like fear, death, sorrows, loss, negligence, cruelty, tyranny, panic, anxiety, PTSD, discrimination, injustice, corruption, monopolization, slavery, survivor’s guilt, helplessness, abuse, megalomania, despotism, blackmail etc. The readers will learn the consequences of repressed emotions, the damages caused by colonization, that it’s best to face their fears than pitying themselves, that sometimes fate has other plans for them, that it’s best to learn to keep their cool in difficult situations, that asking for help sometimes isn’t a weakness, that it’s better to make justice on their own than letting themselves in the hands of a failed justice system etc. Certain scenes from “Through Dark Tides” and “Of Broken Wolves” describe how humanity destroys the environment and use fear, blackmail and slavery as a way to earn a fortune in the real world. Suspense, romance, adventure, magic, fantasy, danger, action and risks are the perfect words to describe this anthology. I recommend this book to readers 16+ because there are certain scenes and topics that aren’t suitable to younger readers.
