„Beyond the Shadows: An immortal Accord Anthology” is an anthology written by Anna Hawke and it consists of four novellas which are as follows:
“Into a Cursed Hollow” (pp. 9 – 107) that tells the story of Mariana, a vampire Ambassador of the World Immortal Federation, that is sent to the small town of Sleepy Hollow to investigate a suspicious murder. What she discovers is that the renowned legend is far from fable – and exposing the one behind it could put her at the wrong end of the cavalry saber.
“A Winter’s Tale” (pp. 119 – 167) is a cozy holiday paranormal romcom. This Christmas, Abraham, the beta of the powerful werewolf pack, is given his most deadly mission cookie management. When he’s paired with a gorgeous wind Elemental for their yearly scavenger hunt, he might just have met his match.

“Of Broken Wolves” (pp. 279 – 385) tells the story of Malik, a Senior Ambassador of the World Immortal Federation that still tries to find his place in the world despite his flawless reputation and the story of Jaeda, a Raeth that is sent away by her sovereign to spend two weeks in Kitty Hawk with his friends. Fate has other plans for the two immortals. Will each find what they are looking for or are they destined for something else?
The author attracts the readers through the simple writing style that can be easily digested. There are a few similarities to Washington Irving’s “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”, crime novels and a bit of romance in “Into a Cursed Hollow”; to Jack London’s “White Fang” and “The Call of the Wild” in “Of Broken Wolves”.
Friendship, love, kindness, cleverness, perseverance, self-discipline, teamwork, bravery, harmony, peace, seriousness, modesty, determination, family, patience, respect, communication are some of the themes discussed throughout the anthology, but the writer doesn’t shy away from tackling serious issues like fear, death, sorrows, loss, negligence, cruelty, tyranny, panic, anxiety, PTSD, discrimination, injustice, corruption, monopolization, slavery, survivor’s guilt, helplessness, abuse, megalomania, despotism, blackmail etc.
The readers will learn the consequences of repressed emotions, the damages caused by colonization, that it’s best to face their fears than pitying themselves, that sometimes fate has other plans for them, that it’s best to learn to keep their cool in difficult situations, that asking for help sometimes isn’t a weakness, that it’s better to make justice on their own than letting themselves in the hands of a failed justice system etc.
Certain scenes from “Through Dark Tides” and “Of Broken Wolves” describe how humanity destroys the environment and use fear, blackmail and slavery as a way to earn a fortune in the real world.
Suspense, romance, adventure, magic, fantasy, danger, action and risks are the perfect words to describe this anthology.
I recommend this book to readers 16+ because there are certain scenes and topics that aren’t suitable to younger readers.

Gah! I absolutely love... love... LOVE the Immortal Accords series! If I could, I would live there. These little additional nuggets to the series is icing on the cake! I loved seeing old friends and meeting new ones. It makes my Book Dragon heart happy!
