Sorry, Char. This is the end. I'll put an end to it all. [Chihiro]
With Kagurabachi's Volume 2 we got an opportunity to witness some magnificent fights against the resident bad guy, Genichi Sojo. Since Sojo is Cloud Gouger's (one of Enchanted Blades) wielder, the clash between him and Chihiro was inevitable.
I think I already expressed my awe of the character designs and the visuals of the story in my review of Volume 1 and, to the surprise of no one, Volume 2 only increased this feeling. Throughout the new chapters we got introduced to a couple of new amazing characters and got a chance to witness new exciting battles. The characters of both sides are fire. They are incredibly well designed, individually and as groups, and I liked each of their fighting styles. And the visuals of the battles were top notch. I love to see the manifestation of Chihiro's goldfishes wherever he uses his Enchanted Blade, but the visuals used for Sojo and other fighters were just as great.
"tell me why you wield the sword. I want to know if you're worthy of it." "To defeat evil and protect the weak. Always."
The focus of Volume 2 is the awaited battle between the two opposed forces: Chihiro and Sojo, which was incredibly exciting, but the author hadn't spend his time just on that sword clash. There are many hype moments, yes, as much as some very emotionally impactful ones. Chihiro started his journey as a son fixated on the retrieval of his father's legendary blades and as someone who's basically a demon sent from hell wherever he uses his blade against his opponents, known also for his deadpan face. But first of all he's someone who deeply cares for other people. He's a protector who stops at nothing to save others and that aspect of his character shined the brightest here. He's also a character whose journey is tied to his father (which is something I deeply love and respect) and the author perfectly understood the assignment by adding flashbacks in the moments Chihiro and we, as the readers, needed them the most.
"I knew it. I'm the only one who understands him. All the literature says the same thing. I can't stand it. Calling him a hero... What an insult!" [Sojo]
Now a couple of words about Chihiro's opponent, Genichi Sojo. I liked how he was created. He was crafted like an antagonist should - he was arrogant, violent, fixated so much on his goals that he was ready to hurt a child as long as he got what he wanted. But he was also a character with a very cool design and someone who, despite his awful actions, was an exceptional swordsman (after only a week of wielding the Enchanted Blade, can you believe it?) and also someone who spent his life idolizing Kunishige and trying to become someone like him.
"If only I weren't your mother, you could have had a happy life."
The little girl we met in the previous volume, Char, got a spotlight on her own. Her storyline made me incredibly emotional. She was just a child, a vulnerable kid who had been hunted and used, and it broke my heart that she had to suffer so much throughout the chapters, all because of an ability that she never asked for. To be honest, I didn't like her character right away when I was reading volume one, she had to grew on me. The moment I understood her reasons to keep informations about herself, I genuinely started to care about her and it made her relationship with Chihiro even more valuable to me. I hope that she will be even more important in the story (just stop hurting her, dear author, I beg you).
P.S. I wonder if her asshole father is still alive and if so, who he is and if we will ever meet him.
We also got a lot of lore in these chapters, mostly about the existence of Enchanted Blades. It made the story even more interesting now and made me excited to meet the living wielders of the legendary swords and to see what the blades are capable of ☺️

EN After an excellent first volume, I have to admit this one didn’t satisfy me nearly as much. It came close to dropping to a 3-star rating, but the events presented here are still interesting enough to prevent that.
I don’t know… maybe I just wasn’t in the right mood for this read, but I felt there was a lack of character development. Too many characters were introduced only to be removed shortly afterwards.
This volume is essentially centred around the confrontation between the protagonist and Sojo, the villain who also wields one of the katanas forged by Chihiro’s father.
Excellent fight scenes. Cool moments, with one really sad moment for the little one. I'm digging the entire vibe of this series. Has demon Slayer vibes with the fights, but darker tone in terms of losing characters like Juju, and yet it's completely modern day feeling fresh. Overall, def will keep reading this title.
Really cool story so far. Wish there was a little more exposition about the war before the story starts because it isn’t super clear and I would love more explanation on the sacred blades but despite those two things, I really am enjoying this manga so far.
THIS VOLUME IS GONNA LOOK SO FIRE IN ANIME😭😭😭😭😭 arghhh i love this manga smmmmmm 😭
Also watch me complete my gr reading goal through this manga because I'M V SERIOUS ABOUT COMPLETING MY READING GOAL 😾 AND I LOVE THIS MANGA SMM 💢(wdym I'm gonna ignore my exam on Jan 1st 😛)
I think it was better than the first one. I really enjoy the action sequences and the sorcery, even though it does remind me a lot of Tokyo Ghoul, lol. I still have the same issue with transitions and pacing overall. I think it struggles with a smooth flow, making it a little annoying to keep up with. I'm intrigued but not hooked yet, I'll come back to it.
omg i dont care i dont care like maybe its my own fault but the story is so hard to follow while also being so unsubtle and i dont understand the worldbuilding at all. i normally like catching up before i decide how i feel about series but omg there is nothing redeeming this to me im so glad i only have to read two volumes
I mean it’s nothing startlingly new from a revenge/avenge the ones I love tale, but I’m enjoying the story, and that’s what matters. Would love to see stoic Chihiro lose his cool once. He’s a little sweetie inside.
I also loved how much his father encouraged him to be his own person.
I liked this book. The story is goid and the artwork is very good, but my problem is the panels seem to jump forward suddenly. I am also not a fan of jumping back and forward in the story constantly. Once in a while it is fine but continuously get annoying.
Chihiro Vs Sojo. Both are carrying enchanted blades. However both of them could not be more different. What is the secret of the swords and who will emerge victorious?
A lot of things are explained in this book, with lots of action. The book has lots of potential. Let more secrets and character development to go.
Gotta say, Hokazono's got a knack for liberal use of intercutting different scenes in with each other to construct a riveting shounen battle manga narrative. The characters aren't particularly deep or complex here, but the action is exciting and lovingly illustrated.

Non so...
OMGGGGGG PEAKKKK PEAK PEAKKKKK PEAK PEAK I CANTTTTTTTT. This was genuinely so good like omfg I'm so tuned in like I can NOT wait for anime I am actually so excited you don't understand. Actually horrible though I was like oh this side character is so cool and then 2 chapters later BOOM he died like oh ok what the hell. I can't believe Sojo is dead already like genuinely I thought he was gonna last at LEAST until volume 5 like I knew he wasn't the main villain but like what the hell how did he die that early on I lowkey loved him.

I loved all the new characters that were introduced. (Even tho pretty much all of them died.) Some of the fight sequences in the volume got a little confusing, but the characters and art make up for that. THE ART. THE ART IS SO GOOD. Everything was so well drawn, and my jaw genuinely dropped during the Chihiro-Sojo fight.
Amazing volume. 4.8/10
