This book is a short D&D-style story involving the wizard Hodein, his new apprentice Amira and a small band of diverse friends who go off on a quest. Specifically, a rescue mission to save an elf prince. This made for a nice reversal from the usual quest to save a princess, especially since most of Hodein’s band are female.

There’s a lot to like in this story, particularly a great sense of fun without diminishing the danger. The characters are clear and distinct, each with their own individual skillset and role to play in their quest.

In such a short book, it’s important to keep the plot moving and the writer did a fine job of doing just that without sacrificing the quieter character moments. Indeed, I enjoyed the time we spent getting to know them before the quest itself began.

However, there were a couple of things that kept me from rating this five stars. I think the story would have benefited from a little more heart and introspection to establish their relationships and let us in on their thoughts and feelings. For example, the scene where three characters are suddenly in bed together without any preamble, I found quite jarring. Also, the story could have been improved with one more pass to sort out some of the grammatical issues and typos.

On the whole, though, if you’re looking for a fun, fast fantasy read, I highly recommend joining Hodein and his friends in their Rescue from the Orc Fortress.

This was a fun little fantasy adventure book. it is very different from this author's usual books, there is no spice in this one.
This moves into the story quickly and speeds along to the end.

Rescue From The Orc's Fortress by Simon Wolfe

'Fantastic and interesting characters!'

Simon Wolfe's trademark is highlighting empowered women with a mission to fulfil. Defeating the evil embodied by the orc, exposing their crooked wrong doings and rescuing a male Prince by a group composed mainly of female heroines. Along the way, they forged strong alliances ensuring a successful mission in the end! Interlacing within the story are the interrelationships among the main characters exposing their nature and life values to which we can be curious and learn lessons one or two from. A tale potential to be transformed into a computer game.

Fantastic and interesting characters!

Enjoyed reading this quick & easy tale. Escape on a fantasy adventure with wizards, orcs, dwarves, and elves! It did take a while to get to the rescue. The first couple of chapters focused on introducing Amira, the new Wizard's apprentice and then the rest of band.
This is a fun story and good for all ages.
