💭 this had a promise of a good read from the start!! & it was!! a dark 2nd chance romance with deep trauma & $talking? yes pls!! zoey & axe were childhood besties since middle school, infact his ONLY friend, & had a rough falling out. 15yrs & a glow up later with revenge on his mind, he inserts himself back in her life. as a hired unaliver for the mob boss who took him in, theres a code he follows for every unaliving. theres so much more to it, especially after everything comes out in the open. so does zoey still fall in that code? can he go thru with his plans?

Total Obsession by Ivy Wild is an intense, sexy, and utterly addictive dark, stalker romance. This audiobook grabs you right from the start with heart-stopping emotion, giving you a glimpse into the main characters’ origin story. Axel and Zoe had been best friends in middle school, and the story picks up as they are starting their first day as high school freshman. Axe had a horrible and heartbreaking home life, and Zoe was truly his only friend and the only person with whom he had shared the full truth of how bad it really was for him. As a result, he was timid and socially awkward, believing everyone was out to hurt him. After all, that was what life had taught him. And the bullies who tormented him only reinforced that belief. Zoe was his best friend, his protector, and he loved and trusted her completely. When Zoe, desperate for acceptance from the popular girls, caves to the peer pressure and joins in on their taunting of Axe, he is understandably hurt and confused by her actions. And when she ultimately tells him they can no longer be friends, he is devastated. But after the worst night of his young life, that devastation and betrayal turns to anger, leading to a revenge plot well over a decade in the making.

When he finally orchestrates a meeting with her, appearing all grown up, wildly successful, and dangerously sexy, Zoe is flabbergasted. And the duet-style narration from Michelle Sparks and Joe Arden is the mouthwatering cherry on top of this sinfully-delicious cake. Michelle Sparks voices Zoe perfectly, flawlessly giving breath to this character’s myriad of emotions and making you truly feel every one. I cannot imagine anyone portraying Zoe better. And Joe Arden as Axel brings such a wonderful depth of emotion and passion to his performance. He honestly had me full-on ugly crying as he voiced young Axe’s utter devastation and heartbreak. Then to go from that to the calculating, dominant, and sometimes terrifying adult version of Axe—all while still managing to give us glimpses of the character’s tender heart still buried beneath it all—is nothing short of amazing. Together, these two talented voice actors further elevate this already incredible story as they bring it to life in the most beautiful and impactful way possible. I highly recommend this title to any fan of dark romance audio.

Total Obsession is just as much brutal and thrilling as it is emotional and heart stopping. The way this story takes you on multiple twists and turns will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. The characters were written in such a intricate way you have a love hate connection to them. Axe, the MMC, is a mystery and very talented in manipulating people's feelings that have wronged him. This man can be down right frightening with how he can mask his true feelings and intentions as well as having unnerving control with everything he says and does. Axe is definitely a man not to cross if you want to remain alive. While Zoey, the FMC, is a very sweet and empathic person that never let her successes consume her or make her into a shallow person. When these two come together, they soon learn you can't judge a book by it's cover because every thing is not as it seems. Axe and Zoey have a connection that is all consuming, strong as steel, and one that never truly died out despite past transgressions. The spice was definitely delicious, hot, and intense. This love story is one I won't forget.
Narrators Joe Arden and Michelle Sparks never fail to impress me everytime I come across any of their audiobooks. These two are so talented and keep you in a chokehold for the entire listen. Joe Arden is a true master when it comes to playing characters in pscyhological thrillers going from charming to down right scary in 60 seconds or less. The control this man has when he's talking at a normal volume and then smoothly transitions to a sinister whisper is down right diabolical. Michelle does very well bringing out her characters emotions and vulnerability with grace and authencity. Well done to these two! Thank you Blue Nose Audio and Ivy Wild for this amazing ALC opportunity!
