A small-town romantic suspense filled with banter, found family, a loyal dog named Fish, and a true-crime mystery that refuses to stay buried.
Hattie
Kipp Holt looks at me as if I’m both a temptation and a hot mess (truth) at the same time. When I came to Wildwood Meadows, it was to tell a story. Now I’m not so sure it’s the only reason I’m here.
He’s a man who believes in the law, even when the system fails to uphold it. He doesn’t like my podcast or the fact that I won’t let the dead stay gone.
But he wants me. I notice it every time his jaw tightens, every time his hand lingers just a second too long. And when he finally gives in, the tension between us snaps hard and fast.
As my crime squad uncovers more evidence and we get closer to the truth to give Allison Finch the justice she was denied, I should be terrified. Instead, I feel relief because I’m falling for a man who would risk everything to stand beside me when the truth finally comes out.
Kipp
Hattie Harper is trouble wrapped in cutoff shorts and confidence—a true-crime podcaster with a sharp tongue and keener instincts. I tell myself I hate what she does, that she’s reckless.
Then she smiles at me as if daring me to argue. The main issue is that I don’t think she’s wrong about the case she’s chasing into Briar Falls. I may dislike her job, but the biggest problem is that she’s a temptation I might not be able to resist.
I didn’t plan on wanting my tenant, and I definitely didn’t plan on watching her from across the property, feeling heat crawling up my spine every time she looked at me.
The case she’s working on is completely rotten, and once I get her under my skin, I realize I’m already hooked on her.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Wildwood Secrets by Haven Fox is a compelling blend of romantic suspense, small-town charm, and gripping mystery.
Hattie is a standout heroine—bold, curious, and driven by her passion for uncovering the truth. As a true-crime podcaster, she brings a fresh and modern edge to the story, and her determination to seek justice keeps the plot moving at a steady, engaging pace. Kipp, on the other hand, is the perfect counterpart—grounded, protective, and committed to the law, even when it’s complicated.
Their dynamic is filled with sharp banter and undeniable tension. The push-and-pull between them feels natural, especially as their opposing views on the case slowly turn into mutual respect—and something more.
The mystery element is just as strong as the romance. The investigation into a buried case adds suspense and urgency, making it hard to put the book down. The small-town setting, combined with a sense of found family (and a lovable dog, Fish), adds warmth and balance to the darker themes.
If you enjoy romance with a strong plot, engaging characters, and a suspenseful twist, this book is a fantastic read.

🔎 Some Secrets Refuse to Stay Buried 🔎 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 Stars | 🌶️🌶️ 2 Chili Peppers
Give me a small-town romance mixed with a true-crime mystery, a protective game warden, found family, and an adorable dog named Fish, and apparently I am all in! 😂🐾 Wildwood Secrets hooked me with the mystery, but Hattie and Kipp kept me completely invested.
Hattie was such a standout FMC for me. She's a true-crime podcaster who refuses to let missing women simply become forgotten cases, and there is such a personal reason behind that determination. Her twin sister, Jane, disappeared years ago, and Hattie has taken that pain and turned it into a drive to help other families find the answers she never received. When the disappearance of Allison Finch catches her attention, Hattie heads to Wildwood Meadows determined to uncover the truth.
And then she meets Kipp Holt. 😍
Kipp is the local game warden, Hattie's new landlord, and a man who likes his world a little more black and white than Hattie does. He isn't exactly thrilled when he discovers what she does for a living or why she's in town, which made their initial push and pull so much fun. I loved watching his opinion slowly change as he got to know Hattie and realized that beneath her confidence and sharp tongue was a woman who genuinely cared about finding justice.
Their banter was so good, but I especially loved watching their attraction turn into trust and mutual respect. Kipp might start out skeptical, but once his protective side comes out... swoon! ❤️ He never took away Hattie's independence or made her investigation suddenly become his to solve. Instead, he became someone willing to stand beside her when things started getting dangerous.
The mystery was just as compelling as the romance. There were secrets, suspicious behavior, unanswered questions, and enough uncertainty that I kept wondering who Hattie could actually trust. I loved that the suspense had a real place in the story instead of simply being something happening in the background. It kept me turning the pages because I needed to know what really happened to Allison.
I also loved the Holt family and all of the found-family vibes. The sibling banter and group chats added some much-needed humor between the heavier moments, and I'm already excited to spend more time with this family. And Fish? 🐶 That dog might deserve five stars all by himself. Best wingman ever!
This was such a great balance of romance, mystery, suspense, humor, and heart. Hattie and Kipp complemented each other so well, and I loved watching two very different people realize that maybe they weren't so different where it really mattered. This was such an engaging read, and I cannot wait to return to Wildwood Meadows!
Thank you to Haven Fox and Booksprout for the gifted advanced reader copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Wildwood Secrets, book two in the Wildwood Meadows series, was written by Haven Fox. This romantic suspense novel explores the journey of Hattie Harper, a true-crime podcaster seeking justice for her missing twin sister and finding solace in a small-town romance.
The story centers on Hattie, who has spent years investigating disappearances through her podcast, The J&J Hour, driven by the unresolved disappearance of her twin sister Jane. Hattie arrives in Wildwood Meadows to investigate the case of Allison Finch, whose abandoned car mirrors the disappearance of her sister.
Needing a place to stay, she meets Kipp Holt, a local game warden and property owner. Kipp does not seem to agree with Hattie’s reason for being in town, and there is some friction between them. Despite this, an attraction develops between them, and Kipp uses his local influence to aid her in her investigation.
Haven does a great job of weaving together the suspense of a cold-case investigation with a slow-burning romance. By the end of the story, we get a solved mystery and a heartfelt romance! I loved that the series is interconnected and that you get to experience recurring characters throughout. I can’t wait to read Sage’s story! A plant lover after my own heart!
Thanks to Haven Fox for gifting me an eARC of Wildwood Secrets. I am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Hattie,a crime podcaster end up in Wildwood Meadows trying to find out more about missing woman.Dealing with her twin sister dissaperance years ago she fight for justice of all those forgotten.Renting cute cabin from Kipp Holt it's a necessity, but she didn't expect to being so attracted to him.Kipp is more love them and leave them type, and he's never looking for anything serious, but there's someting about Hattie. He can't stay away from her even when that means a trouble for him.Hattie getting closer to discovering what really happen to a missing woman, and someone may not want her to dig to deep.
Is Hattie in danger?
It was a really engrossing read.I liked both Hattie and Kipp POV,the attraction between them was almost instant, but it didn't overhelm the plot. The banter was cute and the chemistry burning hot, suspense was added and while it could be a little bit more of it,I didn't feel cheated. Can't wait to read about other Holt siblings, becase their group chat was hilarious and I liked all of them.My first book by this author and hope to read more.
Would recommend this read for romantic suspense fans.
Thank you penpinery and author for arc,my review is honest and my own.
Hattie is a true crime podcaster that has been investigating missing persons and cold cases since her sister disappeared a few years prior. When she comes across a case similar to her sisters’ she is automatically drawn to it. Hattie arrives in Wildwood Meadows and runs into Kipp Holt almost immediately. It was by complete accident that they crossed paths, but Kipp is drawn to Hattie right away and when he sees she is looking for a place to stay he recommends the cabins that he just built.
Kipp is the local game warden and also runs the cabin rentals that he suggests to Hattie. When he finds out what she does for a living he tries to distance himself, but there is something about her that he is drawn to. Kipp continues to try to keep the distance, but at the same time he doesn’t want her to be in harm's way especially since there is something that is definitely going on in the next town over with the sheriff.
This is the second book I have read by Haven and I am obsessed. She weaves romance, suspense, and small town life together so effortlessly and keeps you on your toes. You never know who to believe or trust. I loved Wildwood Secrets and I cannot wait to continue the Wildwood Meadows series.
This is the second book in the Wildwood Meadows series. Each book is a standalone read that features a different couple. This is the story of Hattie Harper and Kipp Holt. Hattie is a a true-crime podcaster. She is definitely the sunshine of this story. She has come to Briar Falls to investigate into Allison Finch's unsolved missing persons case. She has sharp instincts and an investigators drive and determination. Kipp is the local game warden. His life is full of rules, order and black and white definitions. Kipp brings the grumpy to the situation. In the course of her investigation, Hattie butts heads with her reluctant landlord, Kipp. This is their story. The book is well written and easy to read. The attraction and chemistry between Kipp and Hattie is off the charts. The two of them balance out the other. The banter between them will make you smile. The book is small-town romantic suspense filled with banter, found family, a loyal dog named Fish, and a true-crime mystery that refuses to stay buried. A true romantic suspense, you will enjoy the mystery as much as the romance. I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next book in the series.

This was written very well, let me just start off with that. This isn't my norm, suspense and murder added into my romance but it was such a smart read. We have a h that is determined and strong, she doesn't give up and does her hardest to help discover the truth and wants justice for her sister. He's a good man from a good family and he and his people are just what she needs.
Her fire is fueled by the disappearance of her two from years ago.
And now she can feed her other fires with him. He is her balance and his family is as well. They are solid people and after the life she'd been thrust into, after the sadness and the grief and the focus on helping others, she needed and deserved them. He matches her and believes in her and is someone that is just so good. And it's something else that some people choose to make life ugly for others. There are all kinds and luckily she is going strong and should be proud of herself. The family was great and the help at the end? Back to basics indeed.

Hattie lost her twin sister six years ago and instead of just moving on she started the J & J Hour True Crime Podcast to give a voice to the missing women everyone has already given up on. Kipp is the Game Warden in Wildwood Meadows, he loves his job--atleast the outdoors part of it--Kipp also owns some rental cabins and Hattie ends up being his first tenant. Hattie came to Wildwood Meadows to investigate the disappearance of Allison Finch. After their initial meeting and coffee date in town Kipp finds out what Hattie does and immediately his feelings change. Despite the obvious attraction he finds it difficult at first to get past the podcast--that is until his siblings begin telling him to either listen to her podcast or ask her about it. The ups and downs of the story had me hanging on. I finished in one sitting, I couldn't put it down. Haven wrote a great fast-paced romance with a strong, independent FMC, a possessive/protective--A-hole sometimes--MMC, with the perfect amount of conflict. I look forward to reading Sage's story next in Wildwood Wishes.

I'd just come off a Catherine Cowles binge read and this blurb sounded perfect. It's a first by this author for me but I can definitely see myself reading more of this series!
Hattie is a true crime podcaster and she's in town to find justice for a missing girl. But she ruffles some feathers during her investigation, especially when she buts heads with Kipp the local game warden and her reluctant landlord. He thinks very black and white while Hattie is more of a free spirit. Opposites in lifestyle and temperament but their attraction is 100% mutual, even if they both try to fight it.
These two were fun, their relationship isn't instant or rushed, it develops gradually and didn't feel rushed at all. The secondary characters definitely helped them along! The mystery/suspense was also done well. It wasn't over the top or vague. I loved that Hattie had such a great support team, her backstory is sad and all too real but she turned it into something positive and it made her character more complex and relatable.
It was also fun to watch Kipp fall hard and he shined the brightest when he went into protective mode.
Wildwood Secrets by Haven Fox is a sweet, steamy, and suspenseful small-town romance that pulled me in from the very beginning. As the second book in the Wildwood Meadows series, it brought back the cozy small-town atmosphere while giving us a fresh couple and a story filled with secrets, tension, and undeniable chemistry. The forced-proximity trope was so much fun, especially watching the characters navigate being stuck together while trying to fight their growing attraction. Their banter, emotional tension, and slow-burn connection kept me turning the pages. I especially enjoyed seeing their walls come down as they learned to trust each other. Haven Fox did a great job balancing romance with the mystery and suspense woven throughout the story. There are plenty of twists and moments that kept me guessing, while the small-town setting made the story feel warm and inviting. Overall, Wildwood Secrets was an enjoy small-town romance, forced proximity, steamy chemistry, secrets, suspense, and characters who find love when they least expect it.

Wildwood Secrets was such a fun mix of romance, suspense, and small-town drama.
Hattie and Kipp had amazing chemistry from the start. Kipp just had a tug and Hattie thought he was hot as heck. There was tension, banter, and “trying not to fall” energy that made their relationship impossible not to root for. I loved how the story balanced emotional moments with a mystery that kept pulling me in deeper.
The side characters and found-family vibes made Wildwood Meadows feel so alive - but my favorite is how the dog, Fish, completely stole the scenes! He is just so darn cute!
The suspense aspect added just enough danger and intensity without taking away from the romance. The balance was great.
The pacing kept me hooked although some parts were too slow for me. And I do with it was less of a closed door but everyone has their preferences.
Definitely a great read if you love romantic suspense with fast chemistry and action. I recommend this book for sure!
True-crime podcaster Hattie rolls into Wildwood Meadows searching for answers about a missing woman—and gets far more than she bargained for. She ends up renting from Kipp Holt, a grumpy game warden who strongly disapproves of her methods… yet can’t seem to stay away from her. With a loyal dog named Fish 🐾, a messy cold case that refuses to stay buried, and sizzling tension, I was completely hooked. This was the perfect blend of romance and mystery. The investigation kept me glued to the pages, but the chemistry between Hattie and Kipp was everything. Multiple storylines weave together seamlessly, and the dual POV really shines. I especially loved Kipp’s character growth—from closed-off and skeptical to fully devoted. No third-act breakup was a refreshing bonus! The real highlights? The hilarious sibling banter and chaotic group chats. I absolutely adore the Holt family.

I really really enjoyed this book! The story hooked me from the beginning and didn't let go. If you like small town romance, mystery, a little psychological thriller, a sprinkle of humor and found family vibes, you'll love this!
Hattie is a true crime podcaster who arrives in Wildwood to investigate the disappearance of a woman in a nearby town. She rents a cabin from Kipp Holt, a local game warden, who enjoys his quiet life up in the mountains. Oh, and we can't forget about Kipp's dog, Fish. Best. Wingman. Ever.
During her stay, sparks begin to fly between Hattie and Kipp and things start to year up. After a while, Hattie's investigation uncovers corruption and she unwittingly puts herself in the perpetrator's sights.
My favorite parts of this book are the text threads between the Holt siblings. Every one had me laughing out loud. This book kept me so engrossed till the last page that I'm going to go back and read the first one in the series!
This book had me invested from the beginning and kept me there until the last word. It took me one a journey. Hattie is such a relatable and likable character. She wants to get justice for her twin, something I had mad respect for. She comes to our neck of the woods to investigate a case similar to her sister’s. And that’s where she meets Kipp. Even though he doesn’t entirely support why Hattie is in town, there is a connection and chemistry between them that can’t be denied. Watching things develop between them and how the investigation develops too was intriguing and had me leaning in. Haven definitely knows how to get a reader hooked and coming back page after page. The ending was so satisfying and really wrapped up in a way that left happy. And immediately wanting to reach for the next book in the series.
I was utterly charmed by this book and am already eager waiting for the third book! This is second book in series, but it can be read as standalone.
It’s a light, easy read with a great flow. I’d say there’s a perfect balance between action and emotion. Honestly, I finished it in one sitting because it hooked me so hard. The chemistry between Hattie and Kipp ignites fast. While the love might seem quick, yet the author grounds it so well that it feels entirely natural.
I also loved how the podcast was integrated to show Hattie's work and Kipp’s interactions with his siblings were a highlight - their banter made me laugh out loud more than once. (Cabin Romeo and Sasquach! LOL)
Rating: 5/5 ⭐ Spice: 2,5/5 🌶️ (There was heat and some "dirty talk," but it felt light and tasteful)
Wildwood Secrets by Haven Fox is the perfect blend of romance and mystery with a cozy small-town vibe. Hattie’s bold, determined personality paired with Kipp’s gruff, protective nature made their chemistry so fun to read. The banter was sharp, the tension delicious, and the slow-burn romance felt natural amidst the unfolding true-crime mystery. I loved the found family element—and Fish the dog totally stole my heart! The suspense kept me hooked while the romance added emotional depth. It’s gripping, heartfelt, and full of charm. A must-read for romantic suspense lovers! ❤️🐾🔍
Being a podcaster can be dangerous. Hattie started doing it after her twin disappeared. She is trying to bring voices out that might have silenced. The reclusive Kipp took one look at her and the rest... This book is a suspense novel with the most funny characters you'll find. The Holt family have a crazy gene that just gets to you. They are funny. And loyal. If they adopt you, you are theirs. And Fish the rescue. He will love you with his kisses. Funniest part for me was when Rhodes asked if Hattie was okay after her near death experience. She was dancing with the girls and he also asked if she had brain damage. I laugh just thinking about it. Read the book and you'll find out why he thinks she has brain damage. Enjoy my five star recommendation
Haven Fox has done it again!!! The second book of the Wildwood Meadows series is a complete home run!!
I loved this book! The chemistry between Kipp and Hattie was off the charts. Seeing the relationship between the two main characters develop was a joy to read, and you can’t help but root for the two of them.
Romantic suspense is my favorite genre and this book had it all! So well done.
This book was also laugh out loud funny. The text thread between the siblings was insanely funny, just as it was in the first book.
I didn’t want the book to end, it was just that good.
I absolutely loved the first book in this series, and while the second had a few slower moments, it was still such a great read overall. The writing was strong, and I really loved both the FMC and MMC;their dynamic and chemistry, along with the incredible side characters, truly brought the story to life.
One of my favorite aspects was the unique angle with the true-crime podcasters, which added an interesting and engaging layer to the storyline. It kept things feeling fresh and different.
Overall, this book gave me such good vibes, and I’m really excited to see where the series goes next. A solid 3.75 stars, rounded up to 4⭐️ for me!
'A stand-alone small-town romantic suspense filled with banter, found family, a loyal dog named Fish, and a true-crime mystery that refuses to stay buried.'
The characters were very appealing and complex and complicated and perfectly steamy together. Plot was intriguing and intense and well paced. World building was excellent and solidly drawn. All in all a great addition to the series. Enjoyed immensely and highly recommend.

This small town romantic suspense delivers on all the cozy vibes and fun quirky characters that give that found family heartwarming feeling. This was a fun thrilling ride from beginning to end.
Hattie and Kip have banter for days with an instant attraction and a romance that builds slowly. He's such a grump with a big squishy heart, and she's so stubborn and full of passion, so of course, that makes for some great friction between them.
The group chat was off the chain so funny. Doggie sidekick Fish was the best boy ever.
Tropes: Small-town Forced proximity Spicy Found family True crime Dual POV
Hattie is a total hot mess with a podcast and a mission, which is exactly the kind of trouble Kipp doesn't need but definitely wants. The tension between the grumpy lawman and the sassy investigator is thick enough to trip over while they try to dig up the truth about a cold case. There is a very good dog named Fish and a group of friends that make the setting feel lived in and cozy despite the looming mystery. It is a solid mix of banter and suspense that keeps the pages turning without getting bogged down in too much drama. Watching these two finally give in to the heat while navigating a rotten system is a trip.
Time to visit our favorite small town and the Holt siblings. This book grabbed me from page 1. However, to be honest I am a true crime junkie and the heroine is a true crime podcaster. Squeal. Those Holt boys are swoon worthy. They work with their hands and 2 in uniform. Be still my heart. Sorry was distracted by my pastry from the Chapter and Crumb. You will not be able to put this book down. Between the mystery of the cold case to the sibling chat it is fabulous. So what are you waiting on one click!!!! Haven is an ahmahzing storyteller.
I love the Holt siblings, they are so fun and loving towards each other. Their group chats had me laughing out loud. Kipp was protective and a bit broody but had a soft spot for Hattie, Fish and his momma. Hattie was strong and independent. She's been a true crime podcaster since her sisters disappearance over 6 years ago. Taking on cases that have gone cold and finding justice. Kipp and Hattie had great chemistry and banter. Their relationship was a bit instalove but it worked for them.
Hattie’s twin sister disappeared almost 7 years ago and to process her feelings she threw herself into her podcast and from there took on cases where the victim did not get justice. Which brings her to the latest case she is on and she runs into Kipp one of the Holt siblings. He judges her on doing a podcast that is true crime but starts coming around. The attraction is top tier and throw in true crime and a family that likes to meddle just a little bit. Give it to me please. So good from start to finish.
Hattie and Kip's story is riveting. Their chemistry is instant and off the charts. This story involves murder and danger. There seems to be a lot of work that goes into a true crime podcast. I dislike the ones full of fluff like the ones that celebrities do or teach you to put on make up. They must be for some people just not me. I like podcasts that are real and challenging. I highly recommend this book to all romance readers.

This is a great story that brings suspense, steam, danger, a bit of action, and heart all together in a fast paced plot. HAttie is a mystery podcast, curious, self assure, corageous and passionate who wants to uncover the latest small town mystery; Kip is her opposite, he is quiet, restrained, and fiercely protective. Their chemistry is unmatched, their banter delicious, the mystery dangerous, but it is all so addictive to read.
This is such a great read!!.

I fell in love with these series from book one. And it just keeps getting better. Hattie and Kip were great characters. And I loved the small town romance between these two. Both were so sweet and so cute. Their connection was the absolute best. All the side characters, including the dog and the cow lol had me enjoying this so much. The depth and description were wonderful. I can’t wait for the next story.
Still loving the Holt Family and all their chaotic, heartfelt interactions—this group continues to be one of my favorite parts of the series. I really enjoyed getting to know Kipp on a deeper level in this one, and his relationship with Hattie was so well done. Their dynamic felt genuine and engaging, with just the right mix of emotion and chemistry.
The story kept me invested, and I’m already looking forward to what’s next—especially Sage’s story. Definitely excited to continue this series!
