Im zweiten Band der Country Escape Reihe steht diesmal Bets im Mittelpunkt, die ich bereits im ersten Teil unglaublich sympathisch fand. Nachdem sie von ihrem langjährigen Freund Jack verlassen wurde, versucht sie, ihr Leben neu zu ordnen. Mit der frechen Bulldogge Tiggy an ihrer Seite, einem Theaterprojekt im Dorf und neuen Bekanntschaften versucht Bets herauszufinden, wer sie eigentlich ohne Jack ist. Doch als dieser plötzlich zurück nach Wilsgrave kommt, wird alles komplizierter als gedacht.
Ich habe mich wirklich sehr auf diesen Band gefreut, gerade weil ich Bets schon vorher so gerne mochte. Und auch hier war sie für mich wieder das Highlight der Geschichte. Besonders ihre persönliche Entwicklung hat mir gefallen, weil sie lernt, sich selbst wiederzufinden und mehr auf ihre eigenen Wünsche zu hören. Auch das Setting konnte mich erneut überzeugen: die Dorfatmosphäre, die Menschen in Wilsgrave und der humorvolle Umgang miteinander sorgen definitiv für echtes Wohlfühlbuch-Feeling.
Trotzdem konnte mich die Liebesgeschichte zwischen Bets und Jack leider nicht komplett abholen. Gerade das Drama rund um ihre Jugendliebe fand ich stellenweise wenig spannend und emotional nicht intensiv genug. Mich hat außerdem gestört, dass die beiden so lange kaum offen über ihre Gefühle und Verletzungen gesprochen haben, weil dadurch vieles unnötig in die Länge gezogen wirkte.
Dennoch hatte das Buch viele schöne Momente und eine gemütliche Atmosphäre, weshalb ich es insgesamt trotzdem gerne gelesen habe. Auch wenn mich dieser Band nicht ganz so begeistern konnte wie erhofft, glaube ich definitiv, dass viele von euch Freude daran haben könnten – besonders wenn ihr kleine Dörfer, liebenswerte Charaktere und ruhige Wohlfühlgeschichten mögt.

"Ein Wiedersehen im Sommer" ist Band 2 der Country-Escapes-Reihe von Julie Caplin. Das Buch konnte mich leider nicht ganz so überzeugen wie Teil 1 der Reihe.
In der Geschichte geht es um Bets, welche Tierarzthelferin in dem kleinen Örtchen Wilsgrave ist. Sie ist bekannt für ihr großes Herz, ihre fröhliche Seite und immer zur Stelle wenn jemand Hilfe benötigt. Doch die Welt von Bets wird erschüttert, als plötzlich Jack wieder in der Stadt auftaucht. Jack, mit dem Bets seit der Schule ein Paar war, der die letzten Jahre aber in London mit seinem Studium beschäftigt war und Bets nach und nach aus seinem Leben ausgeschlossen hat. Hat die Beziehung der beiden eine Zukunft oder müssen sie feststellen, dass sie sich auseinander entwickelt haben?
Ich mochte die tierliebe, fröhliche Bets sehr gerne, konnte mich aber mit dem neuen Interesse/Hobby dem sie sich im Buch widmet nicht so wirklich etwas anfangen. Das ist einfach nicht meine Welt und konnte mich daher nicht so richtig abholen.
Das Örtchen Wilsgrave habe ich mittlerweile lieb gewonnen, fand in diesem Band die Bewohner der Stadt aber etwas anstrengend und zu aufdringlich gegenüber Bets. Ein bisschen subtiler hätte das Ganze auch funktioniert. Ansonsten mochte ich es aber sehr gerne, die Charaktere, die in Band 1 bereits eine Rolle spielten, weiter zu verfolgen.

A wonderful book.
Bets was a likeable people pleaser who I could relate to.
Jack is Bets ex-boyfriend who has returned unexpectedly, but Bets hasn’t told anyone they are finished!
A veterinary practice is a great setting and I loved the animals and discovering how Bets and Jack are going to manage to work together.
Community setting and a will they won’t they romance kept me turning the pages until the end.

Im zweiten Band der „Country Escapes-Reihe“ kehren wir zurück in das fiktive Dorf Wilsgrave in der englischen Countryside.
In diesem Teil steht Bets im Mittelpunkt, die wir im ersten Band schon kennenlernen durften.
Sie ist Tierarzthelferin in der örtlichen Tierarztpraxis und daneben sehr selbstlos und hilfsbereit. Im ersten Band konnten wir erleben, wie sie Ella, die ganz neu ins Dorf kam, zur Seite stand, sie in die örtlichen Gepflogenheiten eingeführt hat und ihr den Start in der Dorfgemeinschaft erleichtert hat. Bets ist sehr tierlieb und seit Jahren mit Jack, dem jüngeren Sohn ihres Chefs Tierarzt Geoffrey Ashcroft, liiert.
Jack studierte ebenfalls Tiermedizin in Bristol und war deshalb längere Zeit nur selten in Wilsgrave. Doch Jack hat mit ihr Schluss gemacht, da er in Bristol bleiben und dort in eine Tierarztpraxis einsteigen möchte.
Bets Herz ist gebrochen und noch hat sie niemandem davon erzählt. Doch als Jack plötzlich doch nach Wilsgrave zurück kommt, kann Bets es nicht mehr verschweigen und das ganze Dorf nimmt es Jack übel, dass er Bets verlassen hat. Die Dorfgemeinschaft versucht Bets aufzumuntern, doch diese fürchtet, dass sie nun ihren Job verlieren könnte und vielleicht auch ihr Zuhause, da das kleine Häuschen, in dem sie lebt, der Jacks Familie gehört. Somit wird es wohl auch nichts werden, dass sie die Hündin Tiggy aus dem Tierheim zu sich holt, was ihr ein zweites Mal das Herz brechen würde.
Doch Bets ist sehr beliebt, ihre Fähigkeiten als Tierarzthelferin werden geschätzt und auch als Mensch findet sie durch ihre Hilfsbereitschaft Anerkennung. Sie behält also Job und Wohnung und kann der Hündin Tiggy nun doch ein neues Zuhause bieten.
Kontakte zwischen Bets und Jack lassen sich im Dorf natürlich nicht vermeiden, besonders da er auch in der Tierarztpraxis neben seinem Vater und seinem älteren Bruder Devon mitarbeitet.
Werden die beiden eine zweite Chance bekommen?
Es war so schön, wieder in das beschauliche kleine Wilsgrave zurückzukehren und auch einige bereits bekannte Bewohner wie Devon und Ella, Jack und Devons Mutter Audrey Ashcroft, die im Dorf so ziemlich alles organisiert und einige andere.
Als Jack in Wilsgrave auftaucht und erstmals Bets begegnet, merke ich, wie sehr Bets verletzt ist und das Jack auch spüren lässt. Dieser ist verstört über Bets sehr abweisendes Verhalten und möchte zumindest ihre Freundschaft.
Auch wenn ich es erwartet habe, dass die beiden sich wieder annähern, was es sehr emotional zu verfolgen, wie beide sich entwickeln.
Bets lernt endlich, dass sie nicht immer nur für andere da sein sollte, sondern auch mal etwas für sich tun muss. Sie versucht ihr Leben ein bisschen neu zu gestalten, wozu auch gehört, sich endlich den Wunsch nach einem eigenen Hund zu erfüllen, indem sie Tiggy aus dem Tierheim zu sich nimmt. Die Hündin ist ganz entzückend dargestellt, denn sie zeigt schnell anderen gegenüber ihre Sympathien oder eben nicht.
Aber auch Jack entwickelt sich und merkt schnell, was er an Bets hatte. Sie stand uneingeschränkt zu ihm und hatte auch tiefe Gefühle für ihn. Jack muss sich darüber klar werden, wie seine Gefühle für Bets sind und ob sie nicht doch tiefer und inniger sind als er dachte oder wahrhaben wollte.
Dieser zweite Teil hat mir fast noch besser gefallen als der erste Band. Die Geschichte ist sehr emotional und konnte mich auch berühren. Bets ist eine sehr liebenswerte Protagonistin, der ich ihren Liebeskummer, ihre Sorgen und besonders auch ihre Entwicklung abgenommen habe.
Jack war mir anfangs zu selbstsüchtig und karriereorientiert, lernt aber zurück in seinem Heimatdorf auch durch die anderen Menschen schnell, worauf es im Leben wirklich ankommt.
Das war alles sehr schön dargestellt und gewürzt mit manchmal leicht skurrilen Situationen und auch einigem Humor und Romantik.
Ich freue mich, dass ein Herbst- und ein Winterbuch in Planung sind und eventuell zum Ende des Jahres erscheinen werden.
„Ein Wiedersehen im Sommer“ hat mich mit liebenswerten Figuren, einer tierischen Heldin, einer kurzweiligen und unterhaltsamen teilweise auch nachdenklichen Handlung und vielen Emotionen völlig überzeugt.
Ich empfehle den Band gerne weiter und freue mich auf die Fortsetzung der Reihe!

Das Cover ist richtig schön gestaltet worden. Der Buchtitel steht in hellen bzw weißfarbenen Buchstaben im unteren Bereich. Es wurde in Gelb gestaltet. Man kann ein gestreiftes Tuch, Zitronen und einen kleinen Hund auf dem Cover erkennen.. .. Auf dem ersten Blick ist das schon mal sehr ansprechend.

Der Schreibstil der Autorin ist total flüssig, liest sich super und ist sehr leicht verständlich.

Ich fande alle Charaktere von Anfang an total sympathisch und liebenswert. Des weiteren gibt es noch ein paar andere Charaktere. . Meiner Meinung nach sind alle Charakter sehr gelungen und haben einen sehr guten Platz im Buch bekommen.

Mir hat „Ein Wiedersehen im Sommer“ von Julie Caplin recht gut gefallen. In diesem Buch geht es diesmal um die Tierarzthelferin Bets. Ihr Herz wurde von Jack (ihrer großen Jugendliebe) gebrochen, weil er in einer anderen Stadt Karriere machen will. Wie das halt so in einem beschaulichen Dorf ist, mischt sich jeder mit in den Liebeskummer von Bets ein. Dabei möchte Bets sich auf die Dinge konzentrieren die sie schon immer machen wollte. Der Sommer hält für sie Überraschungen bereit.. Mehr möchte ich an dieser Stelle nicht verraten ;) Mir persönlich hat das Buch echt gut gefallen. Es war ein total schöner Roman für den kommenden Sommer, der bei mir auch schon die Vorfreude gesteigert hat. Ich mochte die ganze Art und Weise von Julie total gerne. Ihren locker leichten Schreibstil, der dennoch „fesselnd“ war, weil ich immer wissen wollte wie es weiter geht. Ich mochte auch das Setting recht gerne. Bets ist mir total ans Herz gewachsen mit ihrer authentischen und sympathischen Art. Ich fande es richtig schön zu lesen, welche Entwicklung sie durch gemacht hat. Ich fande auch, dass es sehr emotional bzw Tiefgang hatte. Für mich war auch die Geschichte gut ausgearbeitet und logisch aufgebaut, das es sehr stimmig gewirkt hat. Habe mich sehr wohlgefühlt beim Lesen. Ich finde Julie´s Bücher eh total gut. Ich persönlich freue mich schon auf ein neues Buch von der Autorin. Deswegen bekommt „Ein Wiedersehen im Sommer“ von mir auch sehr verdiente 4 Sterne und eine klare Leseempfehlung.
Fazit:
Toller Liebesroman, der mich auf den kommenden Sommer eingestimmt hat – aber auch sehr berührt hat. Große Empfehlung.

Ich fande alle Charaktere von Anfang an total sympathisch und liebenswert. Des weiteren gibt es noch ein paar andere Charaktere. . Meiner Meinung nach sind alle Charakter sehr gelungen und haben einen sehr guten Platz im Buch bekommen.

Mir hat „Ein Wiedersehen im Sommer“ von Julie Caplin recht gut gefallen. In diesem Buch geht es diesmal um die Tierarzthelferin Bets. Ihr Herz wurde von Jack (ihrer großen Jugendliebe) gebrochen, weil er in einer anderen Stadt Karriere machen will. Wie das halt so in einem beschaulichen Dorf ist, mischt sich jeder mit in den Liebeskummer von Bets ein. Dabei möchte Bets sich auf die Dinge konzentrieren die sie schon immer machen wollte. Der Sommer hält für sie Überraschungen bereit.. Mehr möchte ich an dieser Stelle nicht verraten ;) Mir persönlich hat das Buch echt gut gefallen. Es war ein total schöner Roman für den kommenden Sommer, der bei mir auch schon die Vorfreude gesteigert hat. Ich mochte die ganze Art und Weise von Julie total gerne. Ihren locker leichten Schreibstil, der dennoch „fesselnd“ war, weil ich immer wissen wollte wie es weiter geht. Ich mochte auch das Setting recht gerne. Bets ist mir total ans Herz gewachsen mit ihrer authentischen und sympathischen Art. Ich fande es richtig schön zu lesen, welche Entwicklung sie durch gemacht hat. Ich fande auch, dass es sehr emotional bzw Tiefgang hatte. Für mich war auch die Geschichte gut ausgearbeitet und logisch aufgebaut, das es sehr stimmig gewirkt hat. Habe mich sehr wohlgefühlt beim Lesen. Ich finde Julie´s Bücher eh total gut. Ich persönlich freue mich schon auf ein neues Buch von der Autorin. Deswegen bekommt „Ein Wiedersehen im Sommer“ von mir auch sehr verdiente 4 Sterne und eine klare Leseempfehlung.
Fazit:
Toller Liebesroman, der mich auf den kommenden Sommer eingestimmt hat – aber auch sehr berührt hat. Große Empfehlung.

This was a sweet story from Caplin and I enjoyed watching the relationship between Bets and Jack. She has been hurt by his actions and Jack’s return to their small village spells disaster. Not only does everybody suddenly learn that they are no longer a couple, Jack and Bets are forced to work together at the veterinary practice.
It’s a fraught time for Bets as she is fighting feelings for Jack: just because the relationship is over, doesn’t mean she can switch off her attachment to him. They have been together for years and Bets feels cheated that Jack just took advantage of her kindness over the years. It is this realisation that leads Bets to step out of her comfort zone. Rather than be the supportive, dependent person, she takes it as an opportunity to follow her own dreams. From stand-up comedy to working as an actor, Bets definitely takes life in her own hands!
I liked watching Bets’s transformation, even though it is clear that she is forcing herself to turn her back on Jack. On the other hand, I wanted Caplin to go into more detail with Jack’s background. I thought there was opportunity to expand on his university experiences and what caused him to return home, his tail between his legs, and exactly what pushed him to split up with Bets. A flashback chapter would have really added to this, instead of being informed through Jack’s recollections.
Jack’s reasons for leaving Bets were quite saddening and I was glad to see him being shunned by people! He was cruel and unfair so I liked how he is forced to look within, especially as Bets appears to get stronger and stronger without him. As such, this romance was sweet and enjoyable to watch unfold as the couple go their separate ways, experience new things, before coming back together.
This book is part of a series and as I was reading, I did wish I had read the opening book first. Some references are made to character backgrounds and readers can establish this is the theme for the first book. I think this book can easily be read as a stand-alone but personally, I do prefer to read a series in order.
Finally, although this book is about escaping, it’s more like the characters returning to Wilsgrave. Bets does move on; Jack had moved on; but ultimately, Wilsgrave is the centre of the story. This does make it different to Caplin’s other ‘Escape‘ novels because you don’t have those sweeping setting descriptions that entice readers in to the location of the story. Instead, I think this plot is more focused on character relationships which, whilst I still enjoyed, marked a slight change to Caplin’s other books.
Overall, this is a sweet, summery read that sees a fractured couple rediscover themselves as individuals, before finally reigniting that flame.

The writing was light and engaging. I was taken in right from the beginning and it kept my attention right through to the end. It was a rollercoaster of emotions throughout and I wasn't sure how I wanted the story to end.
The book was split into 4 parts before being split further into chapters.
The chapters were fairly long and sometimes split which meant that you got a good chunk of the story before moving on.
There was a good flow between the chapters and the parts. I quite happily sat and read it for long periods of time.
There was a good pace to the book with a good deal of will they, won't they, peppered throughout. There were some time jumps in the chapters as well as in the formation of the parts, which meant that the story was able to move forward well.
The characters were great. I particularly enjoyed watching the main character's confidence in herself grow. She was up against some confusing and hard circumstances, which made her growth all the more impressive.
The surrounding characters were also a joy to read about, especially the ones that supported the main character. Sometimes the other characters were a bit overbearing to the main character and interfered in her life, but it came from a good place.
Lastly the settings. I enjoyed the village setting, it was a nice backdrop for the story. There were some lovely descriptions throughout that brought bits of the fictional village to life.
Overall a lovely read, perfect for Romance fans who appreciate the will they, won't they, tension.

I’ve been a fan of Julie Caplin since Christmas on Fifth Avenue, and I also really enjoyed The Hotel by the Sea, so I was excited to pick up A Summer Country Escape.
Bets has lived in the same small village her entire life, while Jack left years ago and has now returned. She is unsure whether she can trust him, but in a close-knit village, avoiding each other proves rather difficult.
This was a sweet and easy read with some genuinely fun moments, a lovely village setting and plenty of small-town charm. I did find the title slightly misleading, as there is not really an “escape” in the traditional sense, and the story moved at a slower pace than I expected.
While I enjoyed Bets and Jack individually, their romantic connection did not fully come alive for me, so I was not quite as invested in the romance as I had hoped. However, the cosy atmosphere and familiar community made it an enjoyable read overall.
This may not have been my favourite Julie Caplin book, but it was still a pleasant summer story, and I will absolutely continue reading her future releases.

I'm a huge fan of Julie Caplin. Have been for years. Whenever a new book is coming out, I pre-order and am delighted when it suddenly appears in my Kindle.
Alas, I just didn't love this book. The first in the series (written years 8 ago) was wonderful. Five stars for me.
But although this book was well-written, I found it hard to get into the story. It's a somewhat unusual take on a romance book. Jack has recently broken up with Bets, and now we wait and see if they can find their way back to each other.
Much of the story is about Bets having zero confidence. Although everyone else sees her wonderful qualities, she can't see them herself and doesn't know who she is.
Meanwhile, Jack is a wallowing mess of self-pity and loathing.
I wish there had been more scenes of them together, getting to know each other as proper adults (they'd been together since school). But it was too much of Bets asserting herself in a catty way toward Jack and too much "I was a fool!" from both of them. Instead of getting to be a part of them falling in love again, we mostly get to hear about how each of them wishes they could get back together.
I've already pre-ordered the next two books in the series. So I'm hopeful that I'll enjoy them more!

I loved this book, the second in the Country Escapes series, from Julie Caplin, one of my favourite authors. I haven’t read the first book, but I'm going to, so it’s definitely okay to read this as a standalone.
It’s set in an English village, and not a a holiday destination like her Romantic Escapes series.
I loved Bets right from the start, she’s a really lovely person, but she’s been dumped by Jack, her long-term boyfriend, who also happens to be her boss’ son, and she doesn’t know who she is any more. The whole village rallies around her when Jack comes home with his tail between his legs, but she’s fed up of everyone trying to help her, so she wants to try something new.
I loved following Bets on her voyage of self discovery, it was wonderful to see her change from a people pleaser to a confident woman.
The romance between her and Jack was definitely a will they won’t they, and done so well. I loved the twists and turns in this story, even though I was fairly sure I knew where it was heading.
If you’re looking for a lovely village romance I definitely recommend this one.

The romance between her and Jack was definitely a will they won’t they, and done so well. I loved the twists and turns in this story, even though I was fairly sure I knew where it was heading.
If you’re looking for a lovely village romance I definitely recommend this one.

A Summer Country Escape has such a heartwarming ending, that it elevated it to a 5 star romance read. Honestly, I love Julie Caplin, but usually she writes in more interesting, atmospheric settings. More European Continent than British and the setting usually invokes wanderlust for me as I live vicariously through the main characters experiencing all these cool places...and while I love a good British village tale, it was a bit different than what I was used to from her and the main female lead Bets took a bit for me to warm up to, but by the end, I just loved her and Jack together. Definitely some modern All Creatures Great and Small vibes in A Summer Country Escape and if you love animals, British village life and second chance romances, the book is for you!

I really enjoyed this story, which follows Bets, a dedicated veterinary nurse trying to overcome the heartbreak of splitting up with her long-term partner.
Her ex, Jack, is suddenly catapulted back into her life when his plans change unexpectedly and he returns home to his family. Bets finds herself in the difficult position of having to work alongside him while also dealing with the scrutiny of the close-knit community around them, where everyone seems to have an opinion about their relationship.
It was rewarding to watch Bets realise that she needed to put herself first and create a new outlook for her future. Having spent so long as a people-pleaser, it was refreshing to see her grow in confidence, overcome her struggles, and find something truly special for herself.
Jack also has moments of self-doubt, and it was satisfying to see him acknowledge his mistakes and make a genuine effort to put things right. His character development added depth to the story and made his journey just as engaging as Bets's.
Overall, this was a delightful and heartwarming story that was thoroughly entertaining to read. The engaging characters, emotional growth, and charming community setting made it an enjoyable and satisfying read.

The village setting provides the perfect country escape for the reader, and Bet and Jack take you on an emotional rollercoaster as they navigate a breakup, working together, and maybe a new future. Bet is a character you invest in. As a people-pleaser, you really want her to start living life for herself rather than for others. When Jack comes back into her life, she realises how well she is thought of in the village but also how little she actually believes in herself. It's rewarding to see her emotional growth. Jack is the opposite of Bet, all about himself, but when he realises not everyone is what they seem, he begins to value people who care and seeks different life goals. I like the characters, the cosy village setting, and the emotional growth the couple achieve.

This was a cute book that would have been better if it were about 300 pages shorter. Jack Ashcroft has back to the village where he grew up and his family still lives. His plan to become a partner Ina veterinary clinic were a lie from the start. So here he was without a job needing to rely on his family for a place to live and hopefully, work.
Bets Fowler had been Jack's girlfriend for nine years until he broke up with her over the phone. She hasn't forgiven him nor has any one else in the village. And they are not shy about letting him know how they feel about it.

Genauso gemütlich wie der erste Band der Country Escapes Reihe, wobei ich Ella für die sympathischere Protagonistin halte. Gerade am Anfang hat mich Bets genervt, weil sie gefühlt keine eigene Meinung hatte und ihr Verhalten immer von anderen Leuten in ihrem Umfeld abhängig gemacht hat. Anstatt etwas daran zu ändern, hat sie nur ständig die Tatsache wiederholt, dass andere Menschen ihr wahres Ich nicht sehen. Geht auch schlecht, so ohne eigene Persönlichkeit. Natürlich ging daraus die Charakterentwicklung hervor, die dringend nötig war, aber am Anfang hat mich Bets in den Wahnsinn getrieben. Ansonsten war es schön, bekannte Figuren aus dem ersten Teil wiederzusehen und ich bin gespannt, um wen es sich in der Fortsetzung drehen wird.

Ich habe das Buch gelesen, ohne zuvor den ersten Teil der Reihe gelesen zu haben und hatte keine Probleme damit, in die Welt von Bets einzutauchen. Ihr Charakter hat mit gut gefallen; ich habe generell ein Faible für Frauen, die ihre eigene Stimme finden und ausleben wollen. Hier fand ich die Wahl des neuen Hobbys treffend. Diese Parts waren ein leichtes und unterhaltsames Leseerlebnis. Leider hat mir der Fokus auf Jack, der irgendwie selbst überhaupt gar keine Persönlichkeit hat, nicht gefallen. Witzigerweise hebt Bets auch nur physische Attribute an Jack hervor...ich hätte es überzeugender gefunden, wenn die Wege getrennt gelaufen wären. Es nervt mich, dass Jack sich nicht zwischen Liebe und Karriere entscheiden musste. Dieses Thema wird nur für Bets aufgemacht. Daher 3.5/5

Als ich meine Hörbuch App öffnete und feststellte, dass noch 20 Minuten übrig waren, war ich ehrlich überrascht. Ich war fest davon überzeugt, das Buch bereits beendet zu haben. Irgendwie fasst das mein Leseerlebnis ganz gut zusammen.
Ich wusste von Anfang an, dass mich ein seichter Liebesroman erwartet, und genau deshalb greife ich auch immer wieder zu Büchern dieser Autorin. Sie sind meistens nett, unkompliziert und lassen sich wunderbar nebenbei hören. Nachdem mich der erste Band der neuen Reihe positiv überrascht hatte, war ich dieses Mal leider eher enttäuscht.
Die Entwicklung der Figuren wirkte auf mich nicht besonders natürlich. Statt leicht unterhalten zu werden, war ich von der Geschichte eher angestrengt. Insgesamt konnte mich dieser Band leider nicht so überzeugen.

Well, that was a struggle. After the high of "The Hotel by the Sea" I was looking forward to another great holiday escape book. The title was misleading on this book - there is no "escape" - it is all based in the country town where the characters live. And it was so sloooow. Took me days and days to read cause I just didn't want to pick it up again. The characters were wishy washy and it felt like it was going nowhere, slowly.
Really disappointing, unfortunately. I normally relish Julie's books, especially the "travel" - however this one just felt like a filler. I feel dreadful for saying so as I really do love Julie's books usually, however, this one was tough.

I have to admit that I was disappointed with this book--of all her books that I've read, I liked this one the least. I think, for me, the conflict between Bets and Jack was quite uncomfortable, particularly with the entire village taking sides and continuing to stir the pot--theoretically to get them back together, but doing it in a pretty unhelpful way. For me, this story was not one that made me smile very often as I read it. And I'm sorry, although I like French bulldogs, I just couldn't make myself like Tiggy.

When the author came out with the second book in the Country Escapes series I just knew I had to read it. Of course that goes for any of her books.
I loved it, a lovely summer read I was hooked on for a whole day. Such a realistic setting and occurrences.
Taking chances and feeling your heart come alive again and who can beat a rescue dog in the story. My heart is always so happy when I have a new book to look forward to by the author.

Was an easy read book but didn’t live up to the other books by Julie Caplin. I love her romantic escapes series and her Fifth Avenue book so was really looking forward to this. It was just a bit slow and predictable. One of the things I usually enjoy is the descriptions of the places the books are set but this just didn’t feel the same. I love the author and will be on the look out for her next book.

Als Jack, ihr langjähriger Freund, sie verlässt, tun sie alles um sie von ihrem Liebeskummer abzulenken und sie wieder glücklich zu sehen. Doch Bets weiß mittlerweile gar nicht wer sie ist und was sie will und die Beschäftigungstherapie hilft ihr damit auch nicht weiter. Doch nach und nach findet sie heraus, was ihr gefällt und was sie will.
Dieser zweite Teil der Reihe um Wilsgrave dreht sich nun um Bets, die wir im ersten Band bereits kennengelernt haben. Auch ihre etwas seltsame Beziehung zu Jack war da bereits Thema. Nun hat sich Jack also getrennt und Bets weiß nicht so recht weiter. Arbeitet sie doch für Jacks Vater und wohnt in einer Scheune, die seinen Eltern gehört. Und dann kommt Jack auch noch nach Hause und es stellt sich heraus, dass es auch ihm nicht gut geht und bei ihm einiges schief gelaufen ist. So begleiten wir dann abwechselnd ihn und Bets durch die Geschichte.
Ich mochte das Buch sehr gerne, Die Atmosphäre in Wilsgrave ist einfach schön und wir begegnen Ella und Devon wieder, die im ersten Band die Hauptrolle gespielt haben. Und auch Audrey und ihre Mitstreiterinnen sind wieder mit dabei. Die Geschichte liest sich flüssig und mir hat es gefallen, dass sich Bets wirklich weiterentwickelt und zwar ganz ohne die Hilfe der Dorfbewohner. So wird sie unabhängiger und kann am Ende bewusst entscheiden, wie sie ihr Leben weiter gestalten möchte.
Ich mag diese Reihe sehr gerne und freue mich schon auf den nächsten Band, von daher von mir eine Leseempfehlung!

Disappointed with ending
Disappointed with the character development of the female lead, who supposedly loved all animals, but especially her rescue dog, but then went to work away for weeks without him. It wasn't what I expected of the character, who was first introduced in a previous book.

I knew I would and absolutely loved this book. It was achingly romantic and had me wrapped up in a bubble of happiness in no time. That said, Julie Caplin always writes such gorgeous characters and weaves romance like a golden thread.
Bets Fowler was a terrific protagonist. She was one of life’s joy givers. Simply walking into a room made everyone happy and want to be around her. I was immediately reminded of Nicola Coughlan and kept her image in my mind as I followed the story. I desperately wanted to remove her self-doubt and tell her how amazing she was, but even if that was possible, I doubt she would have listened.
It took me a while to warm to Jack, but ultimately, I saw the good in him and understood why Bets had loved him so fiercely. Yes, he was capable of awful self-centredness, but he did genuinely love Bets, and that goes a long way. Still, he’d been an idiot.
I loved the journey Julie Caplin took Bets on. It was heartwarming to see her finally receive the recognition she deserved and to feel valued as more than just an undeserving girlfriend. No spoilers from me, but I wholeheartedly encourage you to read this gorgeously uplifting novel about second chances and living one’s very best life. I totally loved it, but that wasn’t a surprise; did I mention how fabulous Julie Caplin’s books are?
