I picked up a half dozen books on AI, looking to gain knowledge to add to a project I am working on. The first 60 pages were mostly success stories, filled with individual goals from people who had jumped on the AI bandwagon and done well. This part of the book was similar to the playbook used by network marketing companies (and don't misunderstand, I am a fan of network marketing. With a supportive company and good products, one can do well).
On page 60, the curtain was fully opened, and the first genuine ad from First Movers was unveiled. More ads popped up as I read along, some of them repeating the same message I had read earlier. Yes, this book is primarily promotional, and as Dr. McCoy admits this is a collaboration between her and an AI, one cannot help but wonder which of the two decided this book would be one of the ways to bring in customers.
D. McCoy talks about those who are hesitant to get started using AI, and that the winners will be those who get started. However, this can be said about many different companies, and especially within new industries. There will be folks who jump in and work hard (and will probably do well), and there are those who are scared to put a toe in the water and thus will lose out on an opportunity. What I am saying is that Dr. McCoy will do well, but I believe the internet and word-of-mouth will be her main source of customers. So if you are looking for a book talking about AI, this is not a book that will offer tips and tricks. Up until the last few pages when the book talks a bit about available software, this is one big advertisement.
I'm really excited about AI and the future impact it will have on the business world. Julia does an excellent job laying out the AI landscape in terms lay people can understand.
