Wynne, a magic healer, has been gifted a coin that gives her immortality. As the years pass, the gift has become a curse and she has spent thousands of years as a prisoner, ward and personal healer to generations of kings. When she loses everything that made her life worth living, Wynne must decide, is it worth it to rid herself of the curse or is it worth it to keep the coin forever? In this chilling dark fantasy, you will be transported to a brand new world filled with twists, turns and the effects of depression when subjected to immortality.
Have your tissues ready because this dark fantasy read truly takes you on an emotional journey. Wynne, my heart breaks for you. A magical healer than cannot die yearns for nothing more but her passing. You can feel her fear, her despair, her grief, and her anger at her circumstances.
But there is light in the darkness, brought by all the friends she met along the way. Moments of joy, laughter, gratitude, and wonder from those who saw Wynne as more than just a healing machine. They guided her journey, stayed with her until the end.
The ending was a twist! I did not expect the original King to still be living, though it makes sense that he’d be locked away in the dungeon as to not threaten the rule of the current King.
Lumin’s fate was sad, but they provided her a proper place of rest. I’m glad Trystyn was able to be with Wynne during her own passing, I was worried they’d not be able to say goodbye.
I wasn’t sure how the ending would go, would she still choose to leave this plane of existence or would she learn to love her newly found freedom? But thousands of years of suffering took its toll, and she found everlasting freedom in her afterlife. Katherine there to greet her. Maybe her husband will be too.
