"He doubted the truth. Now, she doubts forgiveness."
Six years ago, Roman Lockwood shattered me. He looked me in the eyes and called me a liar — the same man who once swore he’d move heaven and earth for me. I tried to tell him I was pregnant. I tried to tell him he was going to be a father. But instead of love, I found rejection. Cruel words. A door that closed on the life we could’ve had.
I raised our daughter alone, built a life out of what he left behind, and promised myself I’d never let him hurt me again.
Now he’s standing in front of me, claiming he didn’t know, that he wants to make it right. But how do you forgive a man who destroyed you? How do you trust someone who only believes in control, contracts, and power — until he’s forced to face the one thing he can’t buy time?
He says he wants me. He says he wants us. But I’m not the same woman he left behind. And this time… loving him might be the biggest mistake of all.
A story about love, revenge, redemption — and a second chance that could either heal us or ruin us completely.
TROPES :
•AGE GAP •UNEXPECTED PREGNANCY •SLOW BURN •FOUND FAMILY •SECOND CHANCE •FORCED PROXIMITY •MARRIAGE OF CONVENIENCE
This guy is foolishly stubborn, it's annoying. It's glaringly obvious his family tricked him. He doesn't even like his family because he knows the kind of people they are but he still fell for their machinations. He also absolutely refuses to believe there's ANY possibility the heroine (the love of his life!) was able to get pregnant in spite of doctors previously telling her she couldn't. This has been known to happen, ya know. Isn't her actually being pregnant and delivering a child prove the doctors were wrong?? When she takes him to court years later for child support, he refuses to take a DNA test, too. Buddy, think about it...why would she take you to court if she was lying, and where do you think the kid popped out of? Ay, yai, yai. Clearly I'm not into this book. I'm tapping out.
The second chance from the title is because the MMC ghosted the FMC after being told she’s pregnant. But that’s impossible because she’s sterile. Oh, and by the way, his parents provided proof of her cheating.
The absolute second we met his parents at dinner, I knew what happened. It was too easy.
So, this got three stars because it’s not very original, and it was too predictable. Or I read so much that it’s too easy to figure it all out.
The usual story, man doubts the heroine and she raises their baby alone until he realizes his mistake.
This one didn’t satisfy me because he’s mean to her and won’t believe her for like 3/4 of the book! Then he finds out the truth and *poof* she’s like oh he’s trying as a father and he asked me to dinner, guess it’s all good.
I would’ve rather most of the book been grovel and their relationship growing again, instead they get together at the end and then in the year later epilogue he says it wasn’t easy winning her back.

Luna had always been told she was sterile. Not infertile, sterile. So it was a shock when her doctor told her she was pregnant.
Story skips forward 6 years. Luna, now 26, is raising a 5 year old daughter, Antonella, with the help of her mother, Celeste. They are living in Brazil. One day, some gang members show up demanding money owed by Luna's absent father (Celeste's absent husband). The only way Luna can protect Antonella from the gang is to contact Antonella's father, Roman, who ghosted her 6 years before.
Luna's ex, Roman, is wealthy and owns a luxury car manufacturer in Brazil. Luna goes to a lawyer and files a paternity suit as a first step towards asking Roman to help their daughter.
Roman doesn't think the child is his, or that Luna could even be a mother. But Roman's father has given him a deadline to marry before he can take over the family company. Roman tells Luna he will only agree to the DNA test without contesting if she agrees to become his wife long enough to take over the family company. He also says he ghosted her six years ago because she cheated on him. He is going to use the marriage to get his revenge on her.
Luna agrees because she's desperate to keep her daughter safe, and they quickly marry at the registrar's office. The next day, Luna, her mother, and her daughter all move into Roman's mansion. Even when he sees there really is a child, he still doesn't believe her. I don't know where Roman thinks she got this kid from if he still believes she can't have a child. He never asks who this kid's mother really is. He just keeps saying he can't be the father because Luna can't have a child.
So, not much happens while they are living together, to be honest. He gets to know Antonella a little bit. He decides to go ahead and do the DNA now instead of waiting. And of course, he's the dad. We learn that he thought she cheated because he had been sent some photos and video. So, she didn't lie about the kid, is she not lying about cheating? But what about the evidence?
Then we get a flashback to seven years ago when they were dating, and she told him she was infertile. So she never was sterile, and could potentially have a child. Which makes this whole thing ridiculous. But it doesn't matter anyway, because the test results were tampered with so she's neither sterile nor infertile. I think his parents thought he would break up with Luna if he knew she couldn't produce an heir.
Then Roman finds the man in the cheating photos who admits Roman's parents paid him to stage the photos.
So then starts trying to win Luna back instead of seeking revenge.
It was ok, it just wasn't very evocative. Luna has more conversations with her friend group than with Roman.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author. Some parts of this story felt well written, but it needs more editing. I don’t know for a fact, but based on clues in the text along the way, I believe this book was originally written in another language and the editing should have picked up on the errors. Some of the story was so far fetched I felt myself rolling my eyes, for example most of what the little girl said was ridiculous for a child her age. Speaking of which, at first she’s six, then she’s five. Whatever… I don’t know whether I’ll read another book by this author, but I probably will so I can see whether this one is just a one off.
Typical she thought she was sterile, but ends up pregnant. He doesn’t believe her because he saw “proof” of her cheating.
Her absent father had money issues and bad men showed up at her house for money. She has to contact Roman. At the same time Roman’s dad says he yell give him the rest of the company if he gets married.
R says L was the only woman he loved but he’s still furious at her betrayal. He read the medical reports saying she’s sterile.
You know where this is going. Did I love this book? Yes! Did I eat up the angst? Also yes!
Safety: it’s not mentioned at all. However, she was a single mom trying to survive so I’m sure she didn’t date.
He “hated” her and thought she betrayed him. He worked all the time and didn’t like people so I could see him being celibate for those years.
In my mind that’s what I choose to believe.
I hate when they are separated for 6 years!!

But when u read 400 plus pages of struggle, and shame and heart break and cruelty he inflicted on a woman he supposedly "loved" she takes him back so quickly with no groveling.... I was honestly pissed. Five years he treated her like booboo, and then she sleeps with him the first date she agrees to. I really want to rate it lower, and I wish I hadn't read it. I don't want to chance the rest of the series is like this, so I won't read any of the others. it did have an HEA so if u can forgive FIVE YEARS of mistreatment because he said he was sorry a couple times, then this book is for u.
Luna and her daughter with with her mother when loan shark collectors come around to collect on her father’s bad debt. To protect her family, Luna reaches out to her daughter’s father, Roman, for help. But Roman does not believe Antonella is his daughter. This is the beginning of a story full of lies, deceit, interfering parents and nosey friends.
Luna is string and Roman is stubborn. Lots of the book is devoted to their arguments about their past and their daughter. Flashbacks describe their romance 8 years before. I’m not much for this kind of back and forth story.
This book is exactly as described in the synopsis. I'm not sure the rich people would've gotten their comeuppance this way but it was nice. It would've been more satisfying to see it then be told about it in the epilogue as an after thought but it was decent. I do wish they hadn't been at odds for so long and we had seen more of his groveling but overall, it was pleasant. I loved Antonella. Best character of the whole thing
Honestly its like every other accidental pregnancy/second chance romance. the stakes were not so high that it was unrealistic, but it didnt have differential factors to it as well
marrying the wrong man; an accidental pregnancy and second chance romance
The storyline was very heartbreaking and incredibly, the relationship between these two individuals were complicated and difficult. I enjoyed the ending,
Good story. Good premise. For 500 pages I whizzed through it. It was simply written but flowed. Nothing really catastrophic, It could have been angstier. The hero being dead set for revenge caved pretty quickly. Nice ending though to see how everything was set up.
I loved the little girl so much. She was adorable and i.liked the hero when he I redacted with her. Otherwise this was the same old story, lather, rinse, repeat.
