Legal Jargon

Two best friends. A high-stakes corporate takeover. One very inconvenient snowstorm.

Legal Jargon is a witty and heartfelt childhood friends-to-lovers romance that seamlessly blends the charm of a small-town setting with a gripping, high-stakes corporate takeover in this story about an aspiring lawyer who reunites with her childhood crush in small-town Vermont.

Clara Sinclair has her life organized down to the last billable hour—graduate Harvard Law, pay her dues as an intern at a cutthroat firm, and avoid every distraction—until one mistake (that wasn’t hers) derails everything.

Her solution? Hide out in Stowe for the holidays, finish a corporate deal in peace, and steer clear of anything—or anyone—that might complicate her perfectly planned comeback.

Enter Liam Hearst. Her childhood best friend. Her almost-love. The guy who ghosted her three years ago and—because fate has a wicked sense of humor—is now the client she’s supposed to impress if she wants her career back on track. He’s still infuriating. Still gorgeous. And still capable of making her forget every rule she’s ever lived by. As snow piles high and deadlines close in, late nights of spreadsheets and easy banter start to feel dangerously like old times. And maybe…something more. But when Liam’s past collides with her future—complete with blackmail, family scandals, and a deal that could blow up in their faces—Clara starts to wonder if she finally stops playing it safe… could this be the moment everything she’s ever wanted decides to show up at once?

For readers who love banter, heat and humor, Legal Jargon delivers the kind of happily-ever-after that makes you believe in love again.

No because I’m OBSESSED. Literally this was utter slow burn, romantic perfection. Liam Hearts has just sky rocketed into my top 10 book boyfriends because WHAT DO YOU MEAN he remembered her bucket list and took her surprise heli-skiing 😩 WHAT DO YOU MEAN he counted all the freckles on her face 😩 WHAT DO YOU MEAN he was ready to give up everything even if her walls were still up 😩

I really liked this, I don’t know if you can tell.

A solid first book for this author, I enjoyed a different read and the angst.

Clara (law) and Liam (acquisitions) - for best friends, they certainly didn’t communicate well at times. However it seems Clara didn’t talk to many people (her father included) and just assumed shit.

Her stubbornness was dragged on, frustratingly so.

There was an underlying feeling of distrust, I felt like I was waiting to find out who was going to have the next truth bomb … but it didn’t really eventuate, just bits here and there, mixed with a totally devoted and smitten dude who was trying to move slow with Clara and her enormous walls.

Excerpts from Legal Jargon written by Isla Quinn:

They would immortalize this moment when Liam Hearst, gorgeous American playboy with British manners, wiped horse poop off her face with a linen handkerchief.

When you finally find that someone, someone who gets you, inside and out, someone who you want to share your whole life with, your successes, your failures, and especially the small moments in between… that’s when you really come alive.

Because that kiss told me everything about what you want. That wasn’t how you kiss a friend.”

“Clara James, put that goddamned sweater back on or I will rip it to shreds and drag you to my bed where I will fuck you into next Sunday.”

“I want you to say it out loud. That you feel nothing. That you don’t want me to touch you—like this.”

“I pictured your hands on me, your lips—doing things to me to,” she loosened a deep sigh, “to make me see stars.” “All the things I want to do to you, I’d make you see the fucking universe.”

“The truth is, every time I look at you, my heart stops.

“Because one taste of you and I would lose my mind. I would never want to stop. And that would be stupid because nothing more could happen between us, as you made abundantly clear.”

That fucking image has been imprinted in my mind forever, and all I can think about, all I’ve been dreaming about, is going down on you. Being inside you. All of it…”

That fucking image has been imprinted in my mind forever, and all I can think about, all I’ve been dreaming about, is going down on you. Being inside you. All of it…”

It was the confidence in the way he touched her, the worship in his eyes as he drank her in, the way his gaze darkened as he dropped his lips to her stomach, the dip of her waist, kissing her lower still, until his mouth was between her thighs. All of it, sending her over the edge and leaving her wanting more.

This is all just another crease in the paper

“What’s unbelievable? That he’s so fucking head over heels in love with you and you’re too stupid to see it? That it’s so hard for you to fathom for one second that people might genuinely care about you, and you just push them away?”

“I miss you.” “It’s been less than four days, Liam. You can’t possibly miss me.” “Doesn’t matter. I’ll never not miss you.” “I’ll never not miss you too.”

The only thing that matters is that you’re here and no fucking chance am I ever letting you go again for a second. You hear me?

I didn't really love this it was a little dull and really the 2 MC's never really dealt with their issues. Plus I do love a dual POV and I really think this needed some flashback to their relationship as children / when they were younger. I just didn't feel the connection between these 2 or the longing to make this the slow burn it was.

Clara and Liam have been best friends since they were kids and when Clara was due to start university they planned to move to New York together however Liam decided to leave for London and told her really late. Clara had been in love with Liam since they were 14.

Clara is training to be come a lawyer and apparently she decided to ruin her career before its ever taken off by covering for someone so now she is blacklisted from the company she must work for as her father worked there. I appreciated she didn't want to use her Judge father to fix her problems and she wanted to deal with stuff on her own.

Liam left 3 years ago suddenly to go to London to work in acquisitions rather than run the hedge fund his father set up. There is loads of stuff going on with this apparently an old business partner of Liam's father has joined the firm and is blackmailing him and he wants to leave but really it was dull and kind of not important to the story.

Liam is back and Clara instantly forgives him without telling him that he broke her heart or that she is in love with hi, She wont let her walls down and Liam constantly blames her ex for these walls when they all belong to him. Its was a little hypocritical when he kept secrets and didn't let her in either.

4.5⭐

Legal Jargon is a funny, heartwarming and completely addictive romance. As soon as I started it I was hooked by the storyline. I didn't think the legal/law aspect would really speak to me, but the way the author weaved it into the story was perfect. The way she made it accessible to readers that know nothing about the law world was so appreciated on my part. I was also highly impressed by the writing, this is a debut and it absolutely doesn't read like one. The writing was phenomenal!

Clara & Liam are such charming characters that it's absolutely impossible not to root for them. It's impossible not to think about them every time you set the book down. The slow burn was so addictive, I just couldn't wait for them to FINALLY succumb. I loved how they slowly reconnected and how their relationship took flight. They had crazy chemistry with the sweetest romance. The plot was also what kept me glued to the pages, with a few little twists along the way and everything coming together in the end. It really added another dimension to the book.

Overall, this is a phenomenal debut that absolutely deserves a read. Isla is so talented and I have no doubt she will go far. Her writing is immaculate, her storytelling skills are chef's kiss ! If you're looking to discover a new indie author give her a shot 🥰

my habit of going blindly into books unforch bit me in the ass with this one. admittedly it might be my fault for not reading the blurb and expecting an htgawm-like story where there is detailed narration of how they solve cases. instead this book is more focused on two childhood best friends (who happened to be lawyers/in graduate law) reconnecting over the holidays after years of no contact and misunderstanding, so i was kinda bored. it wasn't helping that the fmc wasn't very likeable imo; the mmc was okay ig. there was little discussion of the one case they were working on which was disappointing + i hate it when conflicts just get resolved in snap for the sake of conclusion 😭

tldr i've read better legal romances. altho tbf, if my expectations were aligned to what the book was really about, i might have rated it a bit higher.

I honestly could not put this book down. Legal Jargon is a slow burn in the best way, the kind where you gradually fall in love with the characters and suddenly realize how invested you are in their world. I found myself completely absorbed, thinking about them even when I wasn’t reading.

It was such a comforting, immersive read and the perfect escape from real life. Reading it felt like taking a little vacation in book form. I finished it feeling relaxed, satisfied, and already missing the characters.

I would absolutely recommend this book to everyone and can’t wait to see what the author writes next!!!!!

This was so cute and such a great read!!

Clara is finishing up law school and going home for Christmas. She’s been avoiding going home so she doesn’t run in to her former best friend (who she is secretly in love with) Liam.

Surprise he comes home!! They began to spend time together again. Watching their relationship bloom was great. There was also a little bit of a mystery/tension with what’s going on in the case she’s working on as well as Liam‘s current job.

Definitely had some spice, but wasn’t way over the top. Overall, really really enjoyed this.

A heartwarming love story that keeps you entertained from cover to cover! The characters, the setting and the plot were absolutely amazing, so much so that I could practically feel every emotion through paper. If you’re a sucker for a fun and touching love story, you’ll love this one as much as I did!

2.75⭐️ Meh. This was hard to finish, slow burn but with boring main characters. The last 30% was better albeit quite cutesy. A shame as I had seen some high recommendations for this book
