Her Favorite Forever

Rate this book
She’s in disguise. He’s in denial. Hijinks are inevitable.

Lady Rosie Hayle has always loved Bull Lindsay…but he's never seen past the girl she used to be. So when he needs an art expert for his latest case, Rosie dons a mustache, calls herself Robert, and proves she's exactly the partner Bull needs—in more ways than one.

Bull Lindsay has always trusted his instincts…which is why ‘Robert Hoyle’ sets them all on edge. Smart, talented, and oddly familiar, his new expert is hiding something. When the disguise comes off and Rosie is revealed, Bull's carefully constructed world tilts on its axis. She's brave. She's brilliant. And she's absolutely, devastatingly perfect.

Now they're hunting a blackmailer across Scotland, going undercover as an engaged couple, and pretending their chemistry is just for show. But despite her family’s enemy staying one step ahead, a ruby-necklace-mystery spanning generations, and Rosie's terrifyingly overprotective father (with fists that have broken necks) on the prowl, the biggest danger might be to Bull's carefully guarded heart…

Contains creative cursing courtesy of Demon Hayle, enough disguises for a theatrical troupe, an age gap that truly doesn't matter any longer, and a hero who finally realizes the perfect partner has been right in front of him all along.

This is the book you’ve been waiting for! Bull versus Demon, with headstrong firecracker Rosie refereeing… An utterly delightful way to wrap up this super-spicy series—equal parts mystery, mischief, and mayhem. You’re going to have so much fun!

It’s the story we’ve been waiting for - James ‘Bull’ Lindsay. We’ve followed him from a misguided teenager to an accomplished detective, using his skills for good.

Rosie Hayle, daughter to the Duke of Lickwick (also known as Demon) has inherited her dad’s ability to construct ever more complex swears. She is besotted with Bull but doesn’t know how to get him to notice her.

Thankfully there’s a case that needs solving and Rosie has the particular skill set that Bull needs to crack it.

Cue lots of love, laughter, doubt and ingenious swears. Not to mention the passion and heat between them - hot, Hot, HOT!

I was given ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is my 19th book by Caroline Lee. I started reading her in July, 2021. Caroline Lee writes cute HistRomComs. Her characters sometimes say things they didn't say back them but it's always so cute.

I liked Bull and Rosie's story. I do have to say reading 400 books a year, I do get confused on who is who and who is related with some of these continued series like this but it doesn't deter from the story. I thought this was a good read and had tons of hot sex. I like that her books have a little bit of modern twist in regards to things they say. Always a cute read.

Bull and Rosie🥰

Before reviewing this book, I need to take you back to 2022.

I said before, my first love of reading was historical romance. And still is. But add Scottish men and I’m done. Plus add ROM-COM , crazy made up names, things that should not be invented but are, and I’m screwed.

I found Caroline Lee by accident. Saw her beautiful covers with men in a kilt and i binged all her 39 books in one month so I can read the next series, Surprise! Dukes.
We met Bull, 14 years old. He was instantly everyone favourite in the reading group. We saw him growing up, find a new family and many many cousins. And that leads to the Surprise Heirs series. Because, as Caroline told us, was explicitly written to see Bull HEA. So here we are now:

Bull Lindsay is a bastard. His father tried to kill him when he was younger but was helped when he met his half brother Rourke Lindsay, Duke of Exingham. After many years of helping his half brother capturing Blackrose, he decided to found his own detective agency, Bull Lindsay Detective Group, with the help of Marcia, his half sister. But when his half brother Rupert came to him saying that his soon to be betrothed Allie was blackmailed, he accepted the challenge. But when it come to arts and painting, no one have more knowledge then Rosie Hayle, daughter of Demon Hayle, Duke of Lickwick. And he is a scary man! Bull knows her since she was born and now, at 21 she’s a beautiful woman and Bull knows if he ever approaches her, her father will end his life there. But Rosie is in love with him since forever so to be able to help him, she will have to disguise herself as an Art expert, Mr Robert Hoyle. Will Bull recognizes her? If not, would Rosie be able to play the role without any mistakes?

It’s the end of a beautiful series, 4 years in the making!!! Bull and Rosie were meant to be with each other’s. It’s funny because we saw him growing up and now he has his own HEA. Idk what is next for Caroline Lee, but I’m always grateful when she comes up with new series, especially when the names are hilarious!!! Thank you for this wonderful journey!!!

Sometimes in a series there's an accessory character you fall a little in love with the first time they're on page, and when they keep showing up throughout the books you fall in big love with them and hope against all hope that they get their own story and happily ever after, and THAT is how I feel about Bull Lindsay and Her Favorite Forever. Over the course of many books, readers of Caroline Lee's HistRomComs experience Bull's growth from a cheeky scamp of a pickpocket to fashionista and self-assured young man who's finding his place in the world. In Her Favorite Forever we finally get Bull front and center (dare we say… full frontal? 😉)! We find out that despite his many accomplishments and notable successes as a private detective, having righted many wrongs and solved many crimes, Bull may not be quite as comfortable as he appears, and especially not when it comes to his feelings about Rosie Hayle. When a blackmailer threatens someone close to Bull and his family, the hunt begins! But Bull must rely on Rosie's expertise in art history to uncover the mystery, a challenge that will threaten his deep resolve if only because the sparks ignite when they have to pose as a betrothed couple on their jaunt across Scotland. Will Bull and Rosie foil the blackmailer and figure out who the woman in the ruby necklace is in all these paintings? Can Bull put his trust in Rosie and let her love him? You'll have to read to find out!

Tropes: Age gap, mystery/disguises, roadtrip, only one bed, creative cursing

SFCP (safe for childless people); main characters do not get pregnant/have a baby in the book, although there is brief mention of how they imagine having children.

I received an early version of this book and voluntarily leave this review.

I adored this final book in this series! Bull’s story of finding his forever love has been long anticipated and it was a fantastic read. I love listening to the strong Scottish accents of many of the characters in my head as I read this.

Caroline Lee always writes so beautifully; with a lot of emotion, passion and so much humour! The storyline was fun and low angst. The hilarious made up swear words, place names and titles of characters made me laugh out loud numerous times. The plot was originally about solving a blackmail scandal but ended up being about family members past and present and their legacy in a way that made this book practically perfect in every way. This book was like a decadent dessert you never want to finish.

James “Bull” Lindsay has made appearances in many of the previous books and it is finally his time to shine and shine he does! He’s a bit of a grump with a soft, squishy inside and Rose is his perfect match, it just takes him a bit of time to realise it but Rose has known for the longest time that he was the only man for her and inserts herself in a case Bull is working on to prove to him that she is not the little girl he remembers, she is all grown up and is out to make him hers. Her initial meeting with Bull about the case was hilarious as she was in disguise but he/she was too knowledgeable on the subject of the case for Bull to not to hire him/her (you will have to read the book to understand). When Bull finds out that Rose is the hired expert he tries to make her go home but she soon proves to him that she’s the perfect partner to help him solve the case.

Rose’s very protective daddy is Demon Hayle, the Duke of Lickwick who is not a great fan of Bull. Bull is well aware of this and is part of the reason he was reluctant for Rose to help him but as he and Rose work so well together, the slow burn pretend (but real to Rose) passion between them suddenly becomes real to Bull too. Rose gives Bull confidence and he wants to prove that he’s not the wastrel Demon thinks he is (add many crazy funny curse words before wastrel and that’s what Demon really thinks of him).

The case has Bull and Rose frustrated and confused as someone seems to be always one step ahead of them in getting the articles they need to solve not just the case of blackmail but possibly someone from Rose’s family who needs to be recognised. The blackmailer was a surprise to me in the end but it tied everything together and there were further surprises revealed too.

The beautifully written epilogue of this book had me tearing up knowing that Bull had finally found his place and home with the extended family that had always loved him, (well maybe not Demon so much but all the others) he just needed Roses’s love and strength for him to realise that he was worthy of his happiness and the love of his family (even Demon in his own special cursing way).

This book is chef’s kiss perfection in my opinion and I am so sorry this legacy of books has come to an end. I know that Caroline Lee will write more hilarious stories with new adventures and a whole new cast of characters that will enthral me as much as this group of characters have but I will always a soft spot for the “Surprise Dukes” and their heirs.

I was so lucky to be chosen to have a pre release copy of this book and I am thrilled to be able to leave this review. If I could give it 10 stars I would.

Lady Rosie Hayle has always loved Bull Lindsay but he's never seen past the girl she used to be. So when he takes on a case for a relative he needs an art expert, Rosie dons a moustache, calls herself Robert Hoyle, and proves she's exactly the partner Bull needs. So begins a partnership to solve who is stealing & buying portraits of a woman wearing rubies, it takes them on a road trip which is fraught with danger
At last the book I’ve been waiting for – was it worth it – OH yes. I’ve loved Bull since he first appeared as a young boy & have loved him ever since. His Rose was perfect for him & I’ve loved her as we’ve seen her grow up. Their chemistry was electric but they also saw each other plus they worked well together. I loved their journey taking them to Northumberland & then on into Scotland. There were surprises plus twists & turns. The ending was bitter sweet as it brought characters not only from this series but previous ones together as a fitting finale. A beautifully written book which made me laugh, had me on the edge of my seat & yes it made me cry. The author gave Bull the story he so richly deserved.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a special copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own

Leave it to Caroline to take you on a journey and upon arriving, rip the rug out from under you. Gobsmacked! Solving this mystery literally floored me! I love puzzling together a story as we go, but I am thrilled when in the end, I am bamboozled. I did not see this coming. The characters in this story are some of the most heartfelt ones I’ve met. Having two main characters full of self-doubt and insecurity leaves you tenderhearted for their joining. Finding their place at each other’s side, becoming partners in life, love and livelihood. It is beautiful. So many mischievous and cunning characters to weave into your heart. Like sweet Eliza and her magical inheritances, her friendship with Bull was so touching. I loved the description: mischief, meddling and manipulations. It certainly describes her and this author to the tee. Curmudgeonly cursing, conniving Demon and all of his love for his daughter. No man wants his daughter to fall for his mirror image. Bull has so many similar traits to Demon, is it any wonder that the man doubts him. All of these things and a million others blend together to make this a fabulous story that was a long time coming. Everyone has been dying for Bull’s story and his Happy Ever After is everything we hoped and more.

This is the long -awaited story of the mischievous boy that we, as Caroline Lee fans, came to love from the time he first appeared in her Surprise! Dukes series. James Lindsay aka Bull continued to capture our hearts as grew into a headstrong teen and then an intriguing, flamboyant man with a thriving detective agency! Her Favorite Forever tells his story of finding love and it is the book that with everything we wanted for our Bull!
True to Caroline's writing, it is full of humor, along with passion and profound emotion that pulls at the reader's heart. Readers were given insight into Bull's deepest fears and desires that drove his behavior since childhood, and my heart broke for him! Rosie and Bull, members of the Surprise! Dukes extended, entangled families become colleagues who are determined to solve a family mystery. Along the way, Rosie discovers the man behind the colorful waistcoats and Bull confronts the woman in Rosie. It is a wild, twisted adventure with expected revelations that leads to a deeply satisfying conclusion. Thank you, Caroline Lee for giving Bull the love story he so deserved!

I absolutely love how Rosie Hale keeps Bull Lindsay off kilter in "Her Favorite Forever", the final installment of the Surprised Heirs series by Caroline Lee. Even though he has known her since the day she was born, Rosie Hale has grown up and is full of surprises. I have been impatiently waiting for Bull's HEA and it's one I will read again and again. Bull made his first appearance in Lee's previous Surprise Dukes series and is one of those characters that quickly became a memorable favorite of mine. I've enjoyed reading his evolution throughout both series and am one happily satisfied reader. I highly recommend reading both series. Especially if you enjoy, stealthy suspense, mystery, humor, found family, surprise twists and turns, quirky character names and yes, the inevitable HEA.

I received a copy from the author, and this is my voluntarily given opinion.

We have been waiting for Bull’s story for so long and now I am sad and don’t want it to be over. It was all that I could have hoped for from the beginning. It only took four pages for him to call her His Rose internally. Some ah ha moments I saw coming, a couple of others I didn’t (maybe Teddy will get a book). We all know this is one convoluted family and throwing in a link to the family tree in the middle of Chapter One was a stroke of genius that I have never seen done before. The story is serious, funny, irreverent and a wild ride. Well written with wonderful characters and good steam once Bull gets out of his own way. A very satisfying HEA and series ending.

Can't believe this is the end of the Surprised Heirs series, so few books and so many next generation characters missed.

Never sure I liked the Bulk character, but I do love Demon, I remember when Rosie was born and he carried her everywhere.

The girl dressed as man trope is a little overdone in historical romances, sure it didn't happen that often, would have worked just as well with Rose dressing as an older woman, and Bull would have felt the same things. Having said that he plot (but not that bit) was decent and I enjoyed it.
The best bit of course is seeing all the familiar characters from previous books and series again..

Perfect Finale!
Rosie was besotted from the start and cunningly inserted herself into one of Bull's investigations. Poor Bull didn't know what hit him until it was too late to do anything else but go with the flow.
The build-up to a most perfect finale was absolutely hot, their chemistry electrifying, their story intense and simply beautiful in this last book of the series and I enjoyed every single moment of it!
I read an early copy of this book and am happy to leave my voluntary review recommending it.

It is absolutely brilliant that Bull has finally gotten his own story, it's lovely to catch up with the rapscallion who has grown into a wonderful man who deserves a woman who can keep up with him. Rosie is all that and more she is smart, witty and full of sass, if only Bull saw past the girl she used to be to the woman she is now. When Bull needs an expert Rosie dons a disguise and Robert is born. When her disguise falls apart Can Bull chase a blackmailer with Rosie's all whilst fighting an attraction he never expected.

Her Favorite Forever is just about as perfect as a romance can get. Complex, crafty, and slightly flamboyant James “Bull” Lindsay has been the heart of Those Kilted Bastards, Surprise! Dukes, and the sequel series Surprised Heirs. We’ve watched him mature from a child thief, into a conniving teen, to a mellower, competent if lonely detective. Who possibly would be a good love match for this amazing man?

Along the way, we have also watched our favorite characters settle down and have families of their own and Lady Rosie Hayle emerged as a sparkling jewel. She also happens to be the daughter of Demon and Georgia from The Duke’s Bartered Mistress and she makes a delightful appearance as a toddler in The Duke’s Mysterious Lover. If you have followed the series, then you know that Bull and Demon have had their arguments, let’s say. Rosie knows what —- or who —- she wants and she wants Bull. It scarcely matters to her that he’s 15-years her senior. Bull has struggled mightily against his attraction and desire for the dark-haired firecracker Rose Hayle for years. Now, she is twenty-one and all grown up in every way. Look out Bull!

I won’t restate the wonderful plot involving a mysterious blackmailer and stolen paintings. But trust me when I say this was a pure delight to read. Rose and Bull are just what Caroline Lee fans could possibly dream of. Rose is smart, resourceful, and very capable of creative cursing, like her father. She sees the real Bull, the man behind the charm and I adored that about her. As for Bull, we finally get some insight to his childhood antics as he succumbs to his desire and love for the wonderful Rose. Will he finally believe that he is good enough for the daughter of a Duke?

Her Favorite Forever is funny, touching, and a little heartbreaking. (Don’t worry. There’s a HEA.) Bull and Rose are combustible together. Very sexy. A few times I was laughing at their antics. Such fun!

In short, three series culminate in this absolutely enchanting, sexy historical romance that is sheer perfection! Absolutely perfection. Don’t miss this! Do yourself a favor and read all the books leading up to this. You’ll enjoy this much much more if you have read about our Bull in his multiple guest-starring appearances.

Do I need to say it? I rate this very definitely worth a reread and that’s my highest, 5+ star rating!

This was a great ending to the Surprised Heirs series. Bull thinking he is too old for Rose, as well as not good enough for her. Rose has had a crush on Bull it seems like forever, so when the opportunity to help him with one of his investigations, she put on a disguise and jumped right in. You will find a story filled with a little sadness but also having you laughing as they work to solve the case and could they possibly finally figure out they are meant for each other.

I've been waiting for Bull to get his story and oh what a story. Bull and Rosie are a perfect match. Rosie and Bull, such great characters. Both afraid to admit their feelings for one another. Bull thinks he is too old and not good enough and Rose is afraid of rejection. They end up trying to solve a mystery together and while in such close proximity, the bands of suppressed desire snap. This funny romance will have you laughing and rooting for these two. I enjoyed it.

Forever Favorite

Her Favorite Forever is now one of my favorites. Once again, Caroline Lee has written a wonderful story. Full of fun, love, mystery, and Demon's loveable cursing. Bull has always been a favorite of mine, and having him fall in love with Rosie, Demon and Georgia's daughter, was almost too good to be true. Superb writing and story, I heartily recommend it!

This is a calmer read, not a lot of chaos or turmoil. spice level was good. I had a love hate relationship with the character personality. loved the concept of colorful cursing but at times it felt over used but I'll likely remember that I read a book with this type of character and plot

This book is amazing. Having read the other series this is the perfect ending for these families. These two are perfect for each other. The humour, warmth and excitement are all here. Again great author notes. Plus plenty of giggles with the inventive cursing( well she is Demon’s daughter) can be read as a standalone O think but so much better when read after the Kilted series and surprise series.

I absolutely loved Her Favorite Forever by Caroline Lee! It is a wonderful and heartwarming read that I could not put down. I have been eagerly awaiting Bull’s story for a long time, and it definitely did not disappoint. Bull is such a strong, sweet, and memorable character.
This book is a delicious spicy romance with incredible chemistry. The heat between the leads is perfect and kept me hooked on every page. Beyond the romance, I was so happy to see the mystery from the overall series finally wrapped up. Caroline Lee tied all the loose ends together perfectly, and I truly loved the conclusion to the big plot.
As always, Caroline Lee’s fantastic humor is a highlight for me. Her wit makes her books a "must-read" every single time. This story made me laugh, feel all the emotions, and left me completely satisfied. It is the perfect ending to a great series, and I highly recommend it!
