The Women of the Mafia #3

The Mafia's Queen

Rate this book
Ruthless, cold, and beautiful, Maeve O’Brien is the Captain of the only Irish Clan in Boston. Deadly with knives, and infamous for her unpredictable rage, she rules her family with an iron fist. No one dares to cross her–and no one touches her siblings.
But behind the scenes, threats are mounting. The Board, a group of backers who financed her father, are demanding she pay her dues—including selling her siblings into old decrees he wrote before his untimely death. If not, she risks not only her throne, or her life, but the lives of everyone she cares about.

Enter the Reaper. Killian Linwood is a killer born from the underworld, who terrifies everyone–except Maeve. A man with the taste of blood on his tongue, and two black claw knives on his belt, he’s been obsessed with her since they were rivals in the clan. But when he lost her, that obsession only grew in intensity.

Now, with people coming for her head, he’s making it his mission to keep her alive—and take back her soul, because she’s only ever belonged to him.

With no other choice, Maeve must rely on her ex to fight back assassins, and to help protect her family. But just as they work past festering wounds, and reignite their toxic love, old ghosts will rise to take them both to Hell. In order to survive, they’ll have to fully trust the other, and succumb to their shared darkness, or face death.

Maeve and Killian are an unhinged match forged during dark times while trying to survive. I have wanted to know more about Maeve since the first book, it was clear there was so much going underneath her icy exterior. She is hands down one of the strongest and fiercest female characters, the truama and literal torture she endured has made her into one bada$$ b!tch. She did it all to protect her siblings. Maeve defeated her tormentor and rode in the ranks with the goal to become the captain of the clan. Then there is Killian, The Repaer, who has been lurking in the shadows. His life’s mission has been to protect Maeve, even from herself. He’s also been working in the background to take care of any of the men her father tried to arrange a marriage contract with. Maeve doesn’t want anything to do with Killian and is constantly telling him to leave but he’s determined to show her he’s there to stay and keep showing up until she forgives him. His yearning and obsession is off the charts. The banter filled tension is unhinged and oh so delicious. Maeve is under threat from the Board, a group who’s has control over the clan. They don’t think she’s fit to lead because she’s a woman. There are also men in the clan who don’t think she should lead either. Maeve is ruthless, fierce, and terrifyingly competent at all aspects of the job. She doesn’t care what anyone thinks, she’s going to show them she’s in charge and she does in a spectacularly bloody way. I knew this was going to be the darkest in the series, not just because of Maeve’s truama, but how she struggles to keep finding reasons to keep going. The raw emotions cut deep. Maeve is a sociopath and Killian is a psychopath, together their chemistry clashes and consumes the pages.

The Mafia's Queen, a dark, morally grey, mafia romance

We finally get to read about Maeve and Killian/the Reaper!! I have been looking forward to their story reading along in the series, since Maeve is the head of the O'Brien clan, she is always present, even with the other stories focused on her siblings. And of course the Reaper, always lurking, stalking, planning to murder someone, we could feel the sexual tension between the two of them in prior books, now we get to read what goes on behind those closed doors!

Maeve is one of the strongest female characters out there, she has been through literal torture and back, beat her tormentors, and is now on top. Even with all of the sacrifice and bloodshed she has given for the clan, there are still male members who don't believe a woman is fit to lead. Maeve shows them, she shows ALL of them, that she is more than capable, and will take no prisoners in her fight to protect her family. I love how dark and twisted both Maeve and Killian are, both shaped by their upbringing, finding pleasure in giving, and receiving pain, because it is the only thing that quiets the demons.

Killian, a true reaper, while not technically part of the clan, has carried out contract kills for years. Killian and Maeve have a love/hate relationship, both on the edge of murdering each other with every interaction they have. While Maeve wants to refuse Killian, especially after he left her, he refuses to leave, and continues to keep her safe.

Killian and Maeve are literally made for each other, both tormented by their childhood ghosts, both sacrificing themselves for loved ones, and both with a penchant for bloodshed. I loved reading their story, and their angsty, slow burn realization that their love is "inevitable."

There is tons of action, a bit of torture, and lots of spice in this amazing dark romance.

I cannot wait to read the final book in the series!!

Thank you so much to E.D. Crowe and Grey's Promo for a copy of this story!

Some fav quotes:
"What will it be like when she goes and takes that sun away? I’ve always fared better in the dark, but she’s been my light in this world for so long. Without her, I have no family. Without her, I'll succumb to evil. Without her, I’m a decaying piece of flesh left to the sands of time, a rot on this planet. Alone."

"“You get one warning: touch my siblings, do anything I don’t like, and I will kill you.”"

"His second mistake was creating a woman so terrifying that the devil wouldn’t take her."

"A demon possesses her when she’s mad, and she’s barely fighting the temptation to gut me where I stand. Fuck, if it gets her close to me, I might let her. Let her impale me, slice me, I don’t care. Just fucking look at me."

"I stood in the cold, waiting for her, like I do every time she leaves the house. It’s getting obsessive at this point, but I don’t care. "

"“See? You’re different. You’re not like other women.” Ironic. If he knew anything about women, he’d understand we’re more alike than not. If allowed to express our rage, we’d set the entire world on fire with our fury and dance in the ashes that blow away. Hell, I know I would."

"When I look at Killian, the Reaper’s face is grinning his psychotic little smile that warms my belly. The kind of smile that used to remind me I’m not the only monster in the world, and my darkness had a home with him."

"Whatever this is—love, lust, obsession—it’s not a thing. It’s the endless abyss of death and the scorching burn of new life. It’s everything—and nothing at all."

"“If you die, I promise I will bring you back and kill you myself. So don’t.”"

I have been waiting for this since I found out about Killians existence in book 1 and it did not disappoint. There is nothing I love more than two completely unhinged main characters who love each other and torture people together for fun. I also very much love the “I don’t need protection” “I’ll protect you anyway” microtrope and this book fulfilled it for me. Maeve is a sociopath Irish mafia captain known for her brutal torture methods and protector of her two younger sisters, but she has lots of trauma too and the only one who knows the extent of it is Killian who’s her rival and ex. The most beautiful thing about this book is how Maeve is so incredibly strong yet so incredibly broken and haunted by demons that she wants death to take her and Killian, oooh this man has made it his life’s mission to protect her so it doesn’t happen. He is an A Grade yearner and caveman, and will do anything and kill anyone for her. But the thing I lvoe most about him is how he scares away her demons and always always makes sure she has the chance to use her safe word. The plot is a pretty typical mafia plot, she’s the only female mafia caption (like the badass queen she is) but that makes her a target. There are some good twists but the highlight definitely was Killian’s devotion to Maeve and their emotional and healing past together. We are also introduced again to Brian who will star in the next book and I cannot wait! I give this a 5/5

Therapy was never an option for these two 💀

E.D. Crowe really looked at Maeve and Killian and said, “What if we gave readers two emotionally damaged psychopaths who would burn the world down for each other?” And honestly? Thank you for your service.

Having read the first two books in the Women of the Mafia series, I’ve been waiting for Maeve and Killian’s story, and it absolutely delivered.

Maeve O’Brien is everything I love in a mafia heroine. Ruthless, fierce, terrifyingly competent, and carrying enough trauma to fill an entire graveyard. As the Irish Mafia Captain, she’s spent years clawing her way to the top after surviving unimaginable horrors, only to find herself constantly challenged by people who refuse to accept a woman sitting on the throne. She rules with blood on her hands and steel in her spine, but beneath all that rage is a woman desperately trying to protect the only people she has left.

And then there’s Killian. The Reaper. The walking red flag.

The man who has been obsessed with Maeve for years and somehow makes obsession look romantic and deeply concerning at the same time.

Raised under the protection of Maeve’s father after losing his mother and growing up with a father who may as well have been absent, Killian found a family in the O’Briens. More importantly, he found Maeve. From that moment on, protecting her became less of a choice and more of a lifelong mission.

Their relationship is not sweet. It is not healthy. It is not remotely sane.

It is raw, explosive, toxic in the best possible dark romance way, and fueled by years of pain, loyalty, heartbreak, and a love that never truly died. Every interaction between them crackles with tension. Every conversation feels like it could end in either a knife fight or a kiss. Sometimes both.

What I loved most was how much their pasts shaped who they became. Their histories aren’t there simply for shock value; they’re woven into every decision, every wound, and every moment of vulnerability. It makes their connection feel deeper, messier, and far more earned.

The plot kept me hooked from beginning to end. Between the power struggles, assassination attempts, family loyalties, old ghosts resurfacing, and the constant threat hanging over Maeve’s head, there was never a dull moment. The stakes felt real, the danger felt immediate, and the emotional punches landed exactly where they were supposed to.

If you’re looking for a dark mafia romance with a terrifyingly powerful heroine, an obsessed antihero, morally grey characters, family loyalty, second-chance romance, dangerous devotion, and enough chaos to keep you gripping your Kindle at 2 a.m., this book deserves a spot on your TBR.

Dark. Twisted. Emotional. Violent. Addictive.

Maeve and Killian were completely unhinged, and I loved every second of it.

Thank you to Grey’s Promotions for the e-ARC, and congratulations in advance to E.D. Crowe on the release of The Mafia’s Queen on June 23rd!

The Mafia’s Queen by E.D. Crowe

I was completely hooked on The Mafia’s Queen! From the first chapter, I was pulled into Maeve and Killian’s world and didn’t want to leave. Their relationship is dark, messy, toxic, and somehow incredibly beautiful all at the same time.

Killian’s yearning for Maeve had my heart in a chokehold. The jealousy, the obsession, the devotion… this man was down bad, and I soaked up every second of it. And Maeve? She isn’t your typical mafia heroine. She’s fierce, complicated, and perfectly capable of standing on her own, which made their dynamic even more addictive.

The second-chance romance mixed with childhood rivals-to-lovers tension created so many emotional moments. Every interaction between them carried years of hurt, longing, and unresolved feelings, making it impossible to put down. The chemistry was intense, the angst hit hard, and the darker themes kept me on edge.

If you love dark mafia romances with obsessive heroes, powerful heroines, yearning, jealousy, and a love story that’s equal parts beautiful and chaotic, The Mafia’s Queen deserves a spot on your TBR. I flew through this book and already miss these characters. 🖤📚

ARC Review

Book 3 in the Women of the Mafia Series
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

From the moment I read the series’ prequel novella, I knew that I NEEDED a full-length novel about these two. And let me tell you, The Mafia’s Queen did not disappoint.

The story follows Maeve O’Brien, ruthless captain of the only Irish clan in Boston. Feared just as much for her unpredictable rage as she is for her deadly skill with a knife, Maeve rules her clan with an iron fist. No one dares cross her. However, as threats begin to mount and the safety of her family is called into question, Maeve has no choice but to trust the one man who is feared more than she is: the Reaper. The only issue? He’s her unhinged and jealous ex.

Maeve is such a compelling FMC. She exudes power and strength whilst still showing vulnerability. Maeve is also fiercely protective of her siblings and will go to any lengths necessary in order to keep them safe. Despite being haunted by her traumatic childhood, Maeve never gives up, fighting each day to stop the demons from consuming her. But when this becomes too much to endure, Maeve seeks comfort from the only person who’s ever been able to make her feel safe - Killian Linwood.

Known as the Reaper, Killian is a killer born from the underworld. The only thing he loves more than watching the life drain from his enemies’ eyes is Maeve O’Brien. He’s been obsessed with her since they were childhood rivals, claiming her soul as his - and he’ll be damned if he lets anyone harm what belongs to him.

This book is filled with toxic, obsessive love, and the most amazing yearning! I was completely hooked from the first page to the last. If you want a book that is filled with strong women and love that consumes, this is the book for you!

Thank you so much to E. D. Crowe and Grey’s Promotions for my ARC.

It is incredibly rare for me to fall in love with a character as early as chapter one, but Killian Linwood completely stole my heart and soul. As a terrifying assassin known as the "Reaper," his perfect blend of lethal capability and casual charm, complete with rocking band tees, makes him utterly irresistible. However, it’s his absolute devotion, obsession, and protective nature over Maeve that sets the bar impossibly high for all other book boyfriends. Killian literally puts Maeve on a pedestal, willingly kneeling for her no matter who is watching. Yet, Maeve is a powerhouse in her own right. She is independent, vicious, delightfully psychotic, and the true definition of a "girls' girl" who takes absolutely no disrespect from anyone, especially men. The fierce dynamic between this lethal protector and his independent queen is nothing short of magnificent.
From a plot perspective, this book delivers a massive "WTF" moment in the very first chapter and refuses to let go of your attention from there. Even at nearly 400 pages, the gripping storyline dragged me in so completely that I devoured the entire thing in a single day. While this book easily earns a permanent spot in my favorites collection, I highly recommend reading the prior books in the series first to fully appreciate the side characters' relationships, though it's not strictly necessary to enjoy Killian and Maeve’s romance. I’ve already added the previous installments to my TBR list, and since the next book drops this October, I will be anxiously counting down the days for more!

Title: The Mafia’s Queen
Author: E.D. Crowe
Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)
The Review:
If you’re looking for a read that drips with atmospheric tension and sharp-edged desire, The Mafia’s Queen is exactly the fix you need. It’s a delicious dive into the shadows, perfect for anyone who prefers their romance with a side of ruthlessness and high stakes.
The Dynamic:
Let’s talk about the stars of the show. We finally have a hero in Killian who fully embodies the "touch her and die" trope—and he does it with enough intensity to make your heart race. His devotion is absolute, dangerous, and unapologetically obsessive.
But it’s Maeve who really steals the spotlight. She isn't just a bystander in this dark world; she is cold, calculated, and just as dangerous as the men surrounding her. Watching her command her own space while navigating her dynamic with Killian felt incredibly refreshing.
Why It Works:
Beyond the dark, brooding aesthetic of their world, the witty banter is the secret sauce. The chemistry between the leads is palpable, but it’s their sharp-tongued exchanges that really solidify their connection. You get that heavy, gothic-romance mood without sacrificing the spark and back-and-forth that keeps you hooked from chapter one.
Final Thoughts:
This is a must-read for fans of high-stakes dark romance. While it kept me on the edge of my seat, it’s the lethal elegance of the main duo that makes this story stand out. If you like your love stories stained with secrets and tempered by iron-clad loyalty, put this on your TBR immediately.

“I’ve seen the worst parts of your soul, Princess. It’s my fucking home, a place I fucking yearn to return to. I can handle all of it.”

Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to Maeve and Killian! These two dark souls become a part of each other's lives as teens, growing up in a world that was always meant to destroy them. The need to heal every broken part of Maeve grew over the years and turned into obsession and love. So when Maeve becomes the head of the Irish Mafia, a clan that has no respect for women, Killian is there to back her and protect her from all her enemies.

5 stars across the board! Dark, spicy and drama filled! 10/10 recommend! Give me a second chance romance with a dual timeline and I will devour it every time. Maeve is the oldest daughter who is strong, ruthless in her own right and intimidates pretty much everyone. Killian is what toxic love and obsession, beautiful nightmares are made of. This man sees all the dark, broken pieces of Maeve and wants to consume her completely. It's very clear that Maeve has had a soft spot for him from the beginning. He helped her when he didn't have to and supported every female rage moment she had. And really.. who doesn't an MMC who is feared by everyone but not the FMC, because she is just as feared as him!? You don't have to but I recommend reading The Mafia's Princess (short little novella) because it will give you more insight on their love story.

Perfection! Im so happy to be reunited with Maeve and The Reaper!! They are my absolute favs, and I know— after each book I’m stuck like damn.. I love this sister too😭 But no, Maeve and Killian are the OGs and I love them infinitely.

I was terrified going into this because I know the pain Maeve harbors, how alone she feels and how DEEPLY she loves. But of course Killian came through over and over again. & for someone to be just as broken and still have the wit of Killian Linwood, he will always be my fav.

I also loved the time jumps, it made the read so much fun but also showed their character growth. It’s especially helpful if you haven’t read Mafias Princess, but I highly encourage you do!

The darkness of this book was so raw and I LOVED IT. A pair have never been better for one another. Oh & the revelations in this one!! I never want to leave this universe!! & I can’t wait for what’s up next!! E.D. Crowe is amazing at setting up the next book!

I was wating for this book since i first read about maeve and killian on The Mafias Daughter. It was a good book, good character development and such a good writing but i was expecting more about their relationship.
I loved how protective and possessive was Killian about Maeve and how he helped her each time she was hurt. They were so good to each one, but I was waiting for more to happen with them.
I started this book and made the mistake of not reading The Mafias Princess before, so i paused this while read the other one and continued with this one and omg im so glad i did it. I was so happy and proud of what she did with that piece of sh*t Michael and what Killian did for her with her father. they both deserved it.
It had a good plot, a little predictable with the dirty cop, but it was worth it! Maeve is so fierce, strong and a really good woman.

I loveeeed the part where they had Reese watching them (iykyk). 🫠

ARC received from author

I don’t think I’ll ever get over how emotionally raw and intense this was for me.

It was totally incredible. Maeve and Killian are raw with some seriously dark emotions and cravings they just can’t seem to control.

Maeve is gorgeous, strong, and has been through literal hell. She knows what she wants and doesn’t mess around. She’s like our fierce princess and queen all rolled into one, wrapped in this dark, beautiful vibe, and she’s climbed that rough path all the way to the top.

Killian… he’s obsessed, stalkerish, kills her enemies before they can even get close, super possessive, caring, and takes charge.

It’s full of action, spicy dark twists that’ll keep you flipping these pages.

Absolutely loved loved loved… Can’t wait for more.

This is the third book in this phenomenal series, and this is Maeve and Killian’s journey.
Maeve is cold, ruthless, and deadly, and the Captain of the only Irish Clan in Boston, and she is infamous for her unpredictable rage. Killian is a born killer from the underworld, and he is feared by all except for Maeve.
This is a well written action-packed story, with family, friendships, emotions, tension, obsession, determination, survival, rivals / lovers, second chances, touch her and die, loyalty, trust, high stakes, violence, toxic chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, tragic, twisted, and unpredictable, dark mafia romance.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

The Mafia’s Queen was such a fantastic addition to this series! Killian and Maeve’s story was everything I wanted and more. Their history runs deep—they’ve been working together since they were kids—and that lifelong bond made their relationship feel authentic and incredibly emotional.

I loved the trust, loyalty, and undeniable chemistry between them. Killian is fiercely protective, and Maeve is strong enough to stand beside him as an equal. The romance, tension, and action were perfectly balanced, making this impossible to put down.

Ed Crowe delivered another addictive mafia romance, and Killian and Maeve quickly became one of my favorite couples in the series!

Maeve is used to defending everyone she loves while keeping them at distance and depending on no one. Killian knows her better than anyone and is doing everything in his power to show her, he can keep her alive and fight all her demons, alive or dead.
Love this series and that Maeve and Killian FINALLY get to work through their issues because the tension between them has been distracting me! Throw in assassination attempts, a normie taking Maeve out and the usual unconventional O’Brian sibling relationships.
Really enjoyed getting Killians POV and learning about his past. My new fav in the series for sure!

I haven't read the other books in this series but didn't feel that I was missing out on anything, it is, very much, a stand alone story. Having said that I am interested in the stories of Maeve's sisters!
So this book is about Maeve, the eldest child of an Irish mob family, and her struggles to be accepted as the leader of that family when her father dies. She has a tumultuous history with The Reaper, her family's assassin, but he is devoted to her, as we find out through the book. There is a lot of potential triggers in this book so be aware before reading it but, it is worth the read, if only for the utter devotion Killian as for Maeve!

WOW! We saw Maeve and Killian’s relationship throughout the series but they finally get their story and it did not disappoint.

We knew Maeve was the one to keep her sisters safe but didn’t know the extent and we get a glimpse into some of what she went through and why she is the way she is, although she would love nothing more than to be “normal” and that’s just not her.

Killian found a love for his Princess and did what needed to be done to keep her safe regardless of who it was. He knew coming back he’d have to work extra to get back into her good graces and boy did he have to work!

First of all E is the whole reason I developed a damn blood kink and Mafia’s Queen really delivered on that front 🤣🤣

This was everything I wanted from Maeve and Killian’s story. The yearning from this man? Perfection. In my mind Maeve has always been the strongest FMC and this book proved it. The things she does is all for her family. The perfect example of older sister energy even at the expense of her own feelings.

Ps. E….you got anymore of those Briar appearances 👀👀

Unhinged. Dark. Devotion.

The FMC and the MMC are two sides of the same coin. Morally black. But oh, so delicious. The devotion of Killian will melt your heart. This book is DARK in the best ways. This book was full of action and a love hate relationship that both the FMC and the MMC needed in my personal opinion. They fight so hard to not be with each when they are the only ones that completely understand each other. This is a mafia romance so of course there is action. A great book!

I love Maeve. I love Killian. They are my favorite couple in this series due to their especially dark humor and wit. This book is extremely dark but shows the constant battle that someone has with their past traumas and how even working through them is a never ending thing. Just 2 dark souls fighting death together protecting the family.

Phenomenal, cathartic, heartbreaking, and ultimately healing.

Maeve and Killian’s story hit me on a deeply personal level. I think every reader will find a piece of themselves in these characters. The emotions this book pulls from you are raw, painful, beautiful, and incredibly real. Honestly, that’s something E.D. Crowe does so well in all of her books.

What resonated most with me was Maeve’s journey as a survivor. When you’ve lived through trauma, especially sexual trauma, so much of your life is spent in survival mode. Fight, flight, freeze—you don’t even realize how much of yourself has been shaped by simply trying to make it through. Maeve’s inner struggles, the constant voices telling her she’s not enough, felt painfully authentic. Those voices never seem to disappear completely; they just get quieter on some days than others.

And then there’s Killian.

In my opinion, everyone deserves a Killian—someone who stands beside you when those voices get loud, someone who reminds you of your worth when you can’t see it yourself, someone who helps pull you back when you’re drowning in your own thoughts. That person doesn’t always have to be family or friends. Sometimes it’s a coworker, a mentor, or an unexpected connection. Sadly, the people who are supposed to love and build us up are often the ones who tear us down the most.

I absolutely adored Nico and Maria, loved the dual POV, and was so happy to see the sisters come together by the end. Watching Maeve finally get a glimpse of the happiness she deserves was incredibly rewarding, and I can’t wait to see more of that in Briar’s story.

The ending was perfect, the writing was poetic, and the emotional depth was unmatched. While this can technically be read on its own, I highly recommend reading the novella first because it provides important context and beautifully sets up this story.

Please check trigger warnings before diving in.

E.D. Crowe handles difficult and traumatic subject matter with so much care, grace, and authenticity. This book broke my heart, put it back together, and reminded me that healing isn’t linear—but it is possible.

3.5 stars, 4 on the spice scale.

This world is very street‑level: thugs, grime, and generational rot rather than the glossy, business‑suit mafia you get elsewhere. We’ve been following Maeve’s clan, which she inherited from her father, but no one wants a woman in charge. The board is circling, the family is a mess, and Maeve herself is deeply damaged. Her backstory is horrific. Sold off at thirteen to her father’s friend, abused, and eventually forced to unalive him. Now she has to appear strong and heartless to keep her siblings safe. And for the most part, she carries this burden alone.

Then there's Killian. He's not strictly part of the clan but he's a trained assassin who was originally Maeve's nemesis, but becomes her lover. He's the one who patched her up and picked up the pieces during her abuse. He’s always loved her, always been her shadow… until he just disappears. Now he’s back, wants a second chance, and immediately resumes guarding her, taking out assassins, and inserting himself back into her life. But Maeve resists at every turn.

Their dynamic is brutal, electric, and deeply unhealthy - they like hurting each other, and the book leans into that. Definitely check triggers. There’s a lot of knife play, blood play, and general depravity. Alongside that, there’s a strong plot, threats to her leadership and threads involving her siblings.

Overall, I'm not sure how I feel about this one. On one hand, it’s well done. On the other, it was melodramatic and repetitive in places. Killian broods endlessly about how he’d die for her and how he can't live without her, yet he refuses to tell her why he 'disappeared' in the first place. Meanwhile, Maeve is too damaged to let him in and it just feels a bit too dark and oppressive for me in places - it certainly didn't give me warm fuzzy feelings. Though, it wasn't supposed to.

And ... some continuity felt off. Her second‑in‑command, who was important in the last book, barely appears here. The hero from book one (which I haven’t read) is apparently a capo but terrified of blood and violence, which made him come across as a bit of a wet lettuce.

That said, this is a solid read, and I would recommend it. It has a different vibe to other mafia romances, which I appreciate. I'm very intrigued by the next book which looks like it will be about Maeve's brother...

I’ve been excitedly waiting on Killian and Maeve’s book, and E.D. Crowe did not disappoint. The Mafia Queen delivers an intense and powerful story of a woman who was forged in Hell and came out a dangerous weapon capable of destroying anyone who threatens her family. Killian and Maeve’s love is entirely unhinged but exactly what the other needs to complete their broken, blackened hearts, and I couldn’t love them more!

Maeve’s character has gone through severe trauma as a female in the male dominated mafia world and suffered torture and abuse by not only her cruel father, but the demented husband he married her off to… Yet she becomes a powerful survivor and a force to be reckoned with in the mafia world. Maeve embraces her violent nature and allows her trauma to be channeled into feminine rage making her feared by all, and I kept cheering this stabby sociopathic FMC on as she delivered her own type of justice and protected those she loves.

Killian, aka The Reaper, is psychotic, obsessed and possessive of Maeve and will do anything to ensure her safety. I love that he has been hers since they were rivals growing up under her father’s rule, and his affection doesn’t waver with time. The Reaper’s loyalty and ability to quiet the voices in Maeve’s head—not to mention his talents at mixing the pain with pleasure that Maeve craves, makes him a top morally pitch black MMC in my book. He doesn’t try to fix Maeve and accepts her, scars and all. The love these two share is messy, intense and all consuming, and the scene when Maeve finally hands Killian her heart (IYKYK) was one of the best declarations of love I’ve seen in a long time!

E.D. Crowe is brilliant at writing deeply flawed characters with depth who find love in spite of their dark hearts and worlds. In the Mafia Queen, she doesn’t sugar coat the violent mafia world or water down the unhinged characters that inhabit it making The Mafia’s Queen one of my top reads of 2026 and cementing E.D. Crowe as one of my auto buy authors.

The Mafia's Queen by E.D. Crowe was everything I want in a dark mafia romance and more. From the first chapter, I was completely consumed by Maeve and Killian's story and could not put it down.

Maeve is the kind of heroine I absolutely love. She is fierce, ruthless, intelligent, and unapologetically powerful. As the leader of her clan, she carries the weight of an entire empire on her shoulders, and I admired her strength and determination every step of the way. She is not a woman waiting to be saved. She is a force all on her own.

And then there is Killian. What a character. Dark, obsessive, dangerous, and completely devoted to Maeve. Every scene he was in demanded attention. His obsession with Maeve could have easily crossed the line into madness, but somehow it felt perfectly matched to the darkness she carried within herself. Together, they created the kind of intense chemistry that had me hanging on every word and every interaction.

What really stood out to me was how well E.D. Crowe balanced the action, suspense, and romance. There were constant threats, betrayals, and power struggles that kept the story moving at a relentless pace, but at its heart, this was a story about two deeply damaged people finding their way back to each other. Their history, their pain, and the lingering feelings between them made every moment feel even more emotional.

I also loved that Maeve remained strong throughout the story. She never lost herself, even when everything around her was falling apart. Watching her and Killian navigate their complicated past while fighting for their future was captivating from beginning to end.

The Mafia's Queen is dark, gritty, emotional, and completely addictive. It is filled with obsession, danger, passion, and characters you will not soon forget. If you love powerful heroines, possessive antiheroes, second chance romance, and dark mafia worlds where loyalty and love are tested at every turn, this book absolutely deserves a spot on your reading list.

Maeve and Killian's story intrigued me from the blurb. One is a psychopath and the other is a sociopath!! What a combination! Wow! Crazy meets crazy!!!

With its female-Hamlet vibes, ghosts of the past, revenge, betrayal, and a heroine slowly being consumed by the voices in her head, this felt like Shakespeare's tragedy wrapped in a dark mafia romance. Again... wow!!!

Maeve is ruthless, feared, and fiercely protective of the people she loves (even though she doesn't want them to know it). Beneath all that strength is a woman carrying years of pain, and Killian is the only one who truly sees it. He knows everything she endured under her father and the man chosen for her!!! In their world, a woman isn't supposed to rule; she's only considered good for one thing. Yet Maeve proves them all wrong.

And Killian... he's obsessive, devoted, dangerous, crazy, fearless, and completely gone for Maeve. No matter how hard she pushed him away, he never stopped choosing her, even when she thought he had left her and hated him for it. He hid her scars, loved every broken piece of her, empowered her, protected her from betrayal, and killed for her.

Their relationship is messy, intense, completely unhealthy, and absolutely unhinged. The emotions in this book were so intense that they were sometimes hard to handle. And it was hot, hot, hot... and kinky!

The side characters were fantastic and always there for Maeve, even when she pretended she didn't need anyone. There is a mafia war brewing, plenty of power struggles and revenge, but the best part of this second-chance story was watching these two find their way back to each other again and again.

My first book by E.D. Crowe, and it definitely won't be my last.

The Mafia’s Queen absolutely owned me from beginning to end!!! I've loved every book in this series and I've been desperately waiting for Maeve's book and I tell you I wasn't disappointed!!!

If you love dark romance where the FMC is just as terrifying as the MMC, this book delivers. Maeve O’Brien is not a woman waiting to be saved—she’s the one people fear. She's been through so much trauma but boy does she show her strength thru this book, she's also cold, ruthless, fiercely protective but carrying the weight of an empire on her shoulders, she was easily one of my favourite mafia heroines because she never loses what makes her dangerous.

And Killian… this man was obsession personified!!! The ex-lovers to reluctant allies to the “I’d burn the world for you” dynamic had me hooked. Their relationship isn’t soft or sweet—it’s messy, possessive, toxic at times and built on old wounds, history and an attraction that never really died. Every interaction between them felt sharp and intense.

What I loved most was that despite all the violence, clan politics and assassination attempts, the emotional tension never disappeared. Watching Maeve struggle between protecting her family and allowing herself to trust Killian again added so much depth to the story.
This isn’t a romance where one person changes the other—they meet each other in the darkness.

Expect: 🖤 Powerful morally grey FMC
🔪 Obsessive ex-lover MMC
🖤 Mafia politics & power plays
🔥 Toxic chemistry done right
🩸 Touch her and die energy
🖤 Family loyalty & high stakes
🔥 Two dangerous people falling back into each other. The Mafia’s Queen felt brutal, addictive and impossible to put down. Check trigger warnings because this one embraces the dark and never apologises for it.
