Danny Coogan is now working as a US Marshal, and he is within weeks of becoming a father for the first time. During a takedown of a fugitive, he makes a grisly a body, and it's the son of someone he knows and works with. Thus begins an off-the-books investigation that leads him to millions of dollars in stolen money, an entire collection of dead bodies, and an ultimate showdown with an adversary determined not to be taken alive.
Frontier Vengeance, book 4 in the Frontier series, reunites us with Danny Coogan and the rest of the crew of Darwin, Montana and the Dead Horse Reservation. This is by far the best Cogan book yet. I must say, Western crime thrillers are NOT my usual fare, I read mostly read sci-fi/horror/ apocalyptic survival thrillers, but the quality of the writing is so good that I can't resist the guilty pleasure that is the Frontier series! I was recommended this series by several people before giving in and starting the series, and couldn't be happier to have listened.
In Frontier Vengeance, the character development is excellent, particularly Danny starting to grow up now that he's a father, and Ruth, who despite being fearful about Danny's safety, but still letting him do what he needs to to satisfy his moral compass. Bringloe is coming into his own as well. The rest of the writing is simply excellent; great narrative quality, great dialogue, fast pacing and the best plot yet! I can't wait for the next book!
5/5 stars! Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys meticulously crafted thrillers, even if Western crime thrillers aren't your thing, you won't regret it, I certainly don't!
Marshall Cogan is a terrific character. He's honest, caring, smart, tough as nails and aware of his own shortcomings. While he's that main character, others see plenty if action and are showcased enough so we get to know them also. The action is non-stop, both the physical and the mental as they figure it out. All in all it's a great book in a outstanding series. I hope they keep getting their stories for a long time and many, many books. Please write faster!
I laughed; I cried; I did a bit of both at the same time. I even dreamed of the characters a few times. Mr. Cardwell is a fine writer and a great story tel!er. As a retired automotive magazine editor, I have pet peeves, though. Please drop the double spaces after a period. It's a typewriter carryover and annoying as hell. Also, a car's or truck's grille is spelled with an "e", while a BBQ grill does not. Really looking forward to number five!
A good story that is well written, moves right along. Keeps you involved and interested. Lots if quality
native American lore and history and some of the hopelessness on the Lakota Reservation. Well worth reading. Hoping for Moe Marshal Cogan stories in the future
Lots of action. Not easy to figure out who the really bad guys are. All in all, was hard to put down. Every chapter revealed another twist in the story plot. I can’t wait for the next tangle Coogan gets involved in.
Hard not to like Coogan and his never say die attitude. And the fact that he's a true warrior poet. I really have enjoyed this series. Well written and highly recommended.
This was a really great read with outstanding Characters and filled with tons of Action and Suspense that kept me glued to each page starting from page1!! Highly recommend to all Western Readers with Romance throughout with an very touching ending.
