Willow Duskril saved one fae from the clutches of ancient magic, but now the fate of a district rests on her shoulders.
Silas Stormbrook sacrificed his freedom to save his home. But the past refuses to stay buried, and not even a secret order can shield him from the consequences.
Navigating their growing feelings, the scouts must lead a team of new, untested allies to infiltrate the Isle of Mist. Only the long-lost archives and the answers within can unravel the High Council's schemes and free Eirel for good. But finding them won't be easy. Betrayal lurks around every corner, and even Valeria, Silas' powerful cousin, can't protect them from every threat.
With the fate of the realm hanging in the balance, Willow and Silas face an impossible fight for their love whatever the cost, or sacrifice everything in the name of duty.
“For decades, I hadn’t let anyone get close, knowing the cost of caring for someone. How it could destroy you. Silas gave me a reason to risk it all. Yet every happy memory was tinged with fear, wondering if it could be our last.”
✨ Reverse grumpy x sunshine ✨ Reluctant allies to lovers ✨ Dangerous mission & magical bargains ✨ Found family ✨ Secret societies & hidden identities
This second book picks up straight into the undercover mission, full of tension and stakes. Willow remains wonderfully grumpy and fiercely independent, while Silas brings sunshine, humour, and optimism. Their banter, trust-building, and slow, sweet cracks in Willow’s walls keep their dynamic engaging throughout.
“Allowing yourself to be vulnerable doesn’t make you weak. It takes real courage to risk your heart like that.”
The mission itself is thrilling, with secrets, espionage, and betrayals keeping the pace tight. Side characters Celeste, Deven, Valeria, and even Norwyn add depth, warmth, and stakes that make the story more than just Willow and Silas. The found family moments are the most touching part of the book.
“He saved me from a dark place and gave me a reason to believe in the world again. We’re stronger because of each other.”
Overall, this duology closes beautifully. Emotional, fun, and satisfying, it’s a perfect continuation of Willow and Silas’ grumpy x sunshine adventure.
Chaos, vibes, and opinions are all my own ✨ please give credit if you share. ✨
Oh I just loved being back with this reverse grumpy x sunshine duo! Silas has my whole heart and the growth we have seen from our Willow was beautiful.
In this finale of Silas and Willow’s duet, we embark on the second half of the bargain they made in book one. Getting to explore Silas’ world was much darker than book one and I loved it. It was cunning, higher stakes, spicer, with more magic and still strong in our romance. Every loose end is tied up and at so many times I wasn’t sure how they could possibly find freedom, but Marie did a great job taking us on a winding adventure full of love, loss, and action.
Silas and Willow’s relationship will always be one that I love and adore. Their green flag communication and dedication to one another is refreshing and dear to my heart. And Silas never failed to make me laugh. He was such a light in the book and yet it was also beautiful to see how darker edges.
Tropes you may find in THATP are established relationship, political intrigue, undercover mission, medium spice, magic, high stakes, plot twists, found family, 🔥 the world for her, and a HEA.
Marie, thank you so much for this gifted arc. It has been such a pleasure to arc read Silas and Willow’s story and I can’t wait for what you give us next!
I love how Marie Violet effortlessly describes scenes and characters' feelings in her writing. And this book is a perfect example of her storytelling. The Heir & The Promise, book 2 of the Whispers of the Night Ravens duology, wraps up Willow and Silas' story nicely. I really enjoyed the dual POV and getting to know how Silas saw himself and felt about his new life with the Night Ravens. This book was packed with adventure, action, turmoil, love and shocking twists. If you enjoy secret missions, magic, betrayal, court politics, found family and a grumpy x sunshine romance, this book is for you!
{The rest of this review may contain spoilers, especially if you haven't read Book 1, The Archer and the Flame.}
I'm happy the book starts off with a prologue and a glimpse into what happened to Silas right before he ventured into the woods and met Willow. His story prior to joining up with Willow was mostly a mystery in book 1, so getting that picture into what pushed him to leave the Isle of Mist was great. I was initially sad that it seemed Willow and Silas had no time together at the Old Keep in the beginning of the book, but that quickly changed and we were back into their fun interactions, witty banter and Silas' flirty and cocky advances! Along the way, we got to meet new characters who made up our happy little found family, though pain, despair and loss hits harder when you open your heart and love more. The addition of Silverfin added some excitement to the story (and her bond with Silas was cute). I think I'd rather hang out with Silverfin than any of the vile, backstabbing court or High Council members!
Silas really grows in this book and you really get to see the ruler he could have been if he'd had the right mentor and encouragement. I loved his good hearted nature, desire to show Willow what it's like to be loved and fun, sunshine personality. Willow shines as a leader, especially after her own character growth. She remains grumpy for the most part, but the little glimpses of her opening up to Silas and their friends is sweet. I didn't trust or care for Valeria honestly, though I adored Celeste. Deven, Norwyn, Opal, Yul, Dorea and the others were all great additions to the story. The Epilogue was beautiful. Silas is the sweetest for everything he planned and did. I do wish we would have found out more about the Prince of Shadows (he has an important story, I just know it!), Reuben and Cassandra's past and the founder. I'm hopeful these are all future (potential) stories to unfold.

Being back in Idrix with Willow and Silas is everything I hoped it would be and more. Book 2 in this duology brings more feisty and fun moments, more adventures and danger, and more steamy moments than you can shake a stick at. And with Silas, the steam is built in.
It is so easy to fall in love with the high-stakes adventure and fantasy of these books. But before I get to that, I have to give some love to the genuinely human emotion we see in the main and side characters. The author does such an amazing job of making everyone three-dimensional by giving them complexities in their motives, actions, responses, doubts, and so much more. It’s expected in the main characters, and it is absolutely done well, but for me, the little moments of growth and strength we saw in the side characters were just delicious and brought the story to life so well.
Willow, our previously isolated and ever-prickly scout of an FMC, is terrified that she is losing her edge - that the dreaded "L-word" might be softening her up. When thrust into a leadership role with an untested group of fae in her command and a much more experienced one looking over her shoulder, she digs into her stubbornness to keep her head up and get through it. Seeing what feels impossible through her eyes is so relatable. Willow frets over every decision and impact, and the worst moments she experiences hurt you as a reader, too. THAT particular moment, you will know it when you read it, absolutely broke me.
Our man Silas's journey in this book is even more painful as he returns to his lands as a hunted man. Fighting in the shadows to try and protect his subjects and remove the bad guys from power is never simple or straightforward. Just when you think you know who you are fighting against, you would be surprised. Silas not only fights with his reality but also his history, as being back in Castle Valour brings up traumatic memories and truths, he might not be ready to face.
This book balances dramatic action and adventure with slower-paced human moments, as well as the realistic frustrations of things not happening immediately or as planned. I am normally pretty good at guessing twists and turns, but this book kept me on the edge of my seat and looking suspiciously at literally everyone. The ending is just what I needed to bring this duology to a close, sort of. I cannot wait to see more of what this author has to offer.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Steamy moments, hair-raising adventure and more. Totally hooked.
We are BACK with our beloved reverse grumpy x sunshine duo and I adored being on this journey with Silas & Willow! These two have such a special place in my heart & to know them is to love them – their journey has never been easy & they rise to challenges presented to them with loyalty, honor and a courage that knows no bounds.

Willow Duskril, scout for the Night Ravens, saved one fae from an early death due to ancient magic, but now the fate of an entire district, and possibly the realm, rests on her shoulders.
Silas Stormbrook sacrificed his freedom to save his people, but the past refuses to stay buried & the secret order of the Night Ravens can’t shield him from what’s to come…
Now, Willow & Silas must lead a team of new, untested allies to infiltrate the Isle of Mist in search of long-lost archives containing the answers of how to derail the High Council’s schemes & free Silas’ home from corruption for good. But, finding something lost for centuries won’t be easy & betrayal lurks around every corner. Will Willow & Silas be able to tip the scales in their favor while holding onto their love, or will dire sacrifices have to be in the name of duty?
I LOVED being on this high stakes quest with Willow & Silas. Willow is coming into her own as a leader, learning how to be vulnerable & trust in those deserving of her loyalty, and making tough calls required to save as many fae as she can. Silas is working towards letting go of his insecurities & becoming his own person, free to make his own choices, and with that freedom, he’s determined that justice is served. The connection between Willow & Silas is unmatched – the love that grows between them is beautiful & the spice? We crank up the heat & Silas gets very creative with his Blessing in ways that we can all appreciate *wink wink*. The stolen moments between Willow & Silas while on their mission showed how important embracing what little time they had together was, because their team had split up to find answers & not everyone came out unscathed. The political machinations at work will have you questioning everyone’s intentions & trying to unravel a devious plot, while rooting for our heroes to come out on top.
This was a thrilling conclusion to Willow & Silas’ story and I cannot wait to see what else awaits us in Idrix!
Let’s just start by saying I loved the conclusion to this duet. Silas and Willow were the absolute anchor of these books, and following their journey was genuinely addictive. I was all in. And along the way, the side characters quietly carved out space in my heart too, adding depth and warmth to an already strong story.
Silas will forever be one of my favourite kinds of MMCs cheeky, charming, fueled by banter, but underneath it all carrying that unwavering I will love you with everything I have and follow you anywhere energy. He brings light to the darkest moments, often with perfectly timed humour, even when he’s the one hurting. What I appreciated most was his growth. He comes from a painful, beaten-down past that could have easily hardened him, but instead he remains soft where it counts. Kind. Loyal. He has moments of doubt, moments where he’s lost pieces of himself, but watching him rebuild that belief - with Willow beside him - was quietly powerful.
And Willow. I loved her evolution here. She’s always had those sharp, defensive edges, but over time you see them soften, not because she’s weaker, but because she feels safe enough to let them. There’s a difference. She learns difficult truths, makes hard choices, and risks herself for others without hesitation. For someone who’s been so fiercely independent, almost lone-wolf by necessity, it was beautiful to see her open up to friendship and connection. Her heart slowly mending felt authentic, not rushed. She’s still the formidable, capable fae we met at the start, just fuller, steadier, more at peace in her own skin.
Together, they’re such a solid example of partnership done right. They don’t cage each other or compete for control. They communicate. They uplift. They challenge when needed but always from a place of respect. Watching them consistently choose one another, not out of obligation, but out of love was deeply satisfying.
The plot itself kept me engaged through the political tension, quests, ups and downs, and that final fight. I was constantly questioning who could be trusted, what’s going to happen next, how will they get out of this and when everything came together, it felt earned. Loose ends were tied without feeling overly neat, and the ending left me genuinely content.
A duet that delivered on heart, growth, romance, and payoff. I couldn’t have asked for a better send-off
ARC read: In this second book in the Night Ravens duology, we return to the realm of the Fae, where the stakes are higher than ever. Willow, the stoic scout who prefers to work alone, is forced to lower her walls when she is tasked with leading a team of Night Ravens. Their mission? Infiltrate the court on the Isle of Mist to stop Faralt’s plans before more Fae fall victim to an ancient magic. The dynamic between Willow and Silas is stronger in this sequel. While Willow still struggles with trust, Silas remains the rock she can lean on. Their love is palpable and a welcome contrast to the political intrigue and double agendas at court. Silas, as the presumed dead Lord of Eirel with his powerful fire magic, must fight not only external enemies but also the skepticism of his own people. The author expands the magical worldbuilding in this sequel. From an underground city to dangerous water dragons, the team faces many dangerous situations during their mission. The addition of Valeria, Silas's cousin and heir to the throne, adds a layer of loyalty and risk. Who can you truly trust when Faralt’s ancient magic threatens to consume the world? The characters are torn between their duty to their people and the urge to keep those they love safe. Although the ending took a turn I absolutely did not see coming (and still find myself questioning why!), the story remained gripping until the very last page. While the two epilogues are an extra touch, they may provide fans with closure. For me the epilogues were'nt really necessary. A great worthy conclusion to this duology. A combination of action, magical world-building, and a steamy romance. For fans of strong female leads and Fae magic, this is an absolute must-read.
"But sometimes, all a lost soul needs is a place to come home to. And I was home."
Home may be a place, but sometimes it is more than that. It's a shelter, whether physical or metaphorical. It's a safety blanket, a sense of security and wholeness. Sometimes, a home is a person. And no one knows this better than Willow and Silas.
They have found love in each other. Hope. Light in the dark. They have found peace. They've earned it through blood, sweat, and tears. Through every political ploy, every secret, every intrigue. They've earned it through everything life has thrown at them. Every curveball, every setback. They've earned it, and I couldn't be happier for them.
The road wasn't easy for them. Anything but. They've faced so many dangers, so many different opponents. They've faced imprisonment, loneliness, hopelessness. They've suffered through loss, hurt, and anger. And still, they emerged on the other side. Not unscathed, not without bruises or scars, but battle-worn and hopeful. Because despite it all, despite everything they went through, one thing remained constant: their love and devotion. And no one could ever take those away from them.
The story of Willow and Silas may be over, but there is still so much going on in this world that I wouldn't mind returning to Idrix to explore new tales and both new and familiar characters.
Thank you, Marie, for having me on your team. It's always an immense pleasure.
As an ARC reader, I was really excited to dive back into this world, especially as I read book one back in November 2024. Thankfully, the story opens with a helpful recap that made it easy to slip straight back into the plot and reconnect with the characters.
The book picks up right where the previous one left off, and the pace is fast from the start. I loved how quickly the story pulled me back in, continuing the adventure while raising the stakes even higher. This time, the mission feels even more personal as everything centres around returning to Silas’s old life — but the question is, will he keep his promise?
One of my favourite aspects of the book was the multiple POV chapters. Getting both his and her perspectives added so much depth to the story and helped build a stronger emotional connection with the characters. It also made the tension of the mission feel even more real.
The found-family dynamic continues to shine in this instalment. Watching the characters work together, support each other, and risk everything for one another adds a lot of heart to the story and makes their journey even more compelling.
The world-building also expands in really interesting ways. I was particularly fascinated by the undercity and the unique way it’s accessed — it added another layer to the world and made the setting feel even richer and more immersive.
At its core, the story explores rebellion and the fight for a better world — something that feels incredibly relatable. Who doesn’t want to believe in the possibility of change?
This book was an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish. There were several moments that had me gasping and even shouting out loud (yes… while I was on a train!). It’s packed with tension, action, and heartfelt moments that keep you completely invested.
A gripping and fast-paced continuation of the series that builds beautifully on the first book.
This made me so emotional. If you like friends to Lovers with a grumpy sunshine duo and crying your eyes out pick this up. I love the build up and progression we got from book one with enough to remind us of the characters and events so we can follow the plot easily. I liked that we got to see more from the old keep and other scouts and the training preparation aspect of the night ravens. I also liked the way we saw the characters develop in this book and the new relationships that formed from it. I think it was really important getting the context and more of Silas' point of view into everything to do with Erelia and his family and the whole system in place that they are fighting. The details of the castles and outfits were beautiful and you can really feel the magic this world has. I found the plotting and the schemes really interesting and propelled us right into the battle towards the end. There was alot between the big plot points that I loved where they got to all know eachother in their group and before they made it to Erelia there were alot of revelations and history brought up and it brought it together like you were a part of their group. Their adventures are so interesting and the sounds of some of the other places in the world, the epilogue and final chapters where we got snippets of the future were really intriguing and gave us a nice insight of what happend after.
The adventures pick up right where the previous book finished. The plotline was full of action, adventure and intrigue.
I thoroughly enjoyed the dual POV’s. I loved Silas character, he is just so full of himself I can’t decide whether it’s arrogance or confidence but I’m here for it. It was a joy to read the continuation of his character arc. Silas has never been the alpha hole, primary predator - that’s more of Willow’s MO. However he sharpened his skills throughout, leaving the sheltered aristocracy of his upbringing behind him and developing into the scout he can be to balance Willow.
Willows journey of self discovery and allowing to see past her loss, to let people in is an emotional journey. Her and Silas balance each other out so well. Their chemistry is 🌶️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️ at times, which was toe curlingly good to read! Equally their romance was heart warming, they really did compliment each other exquisitely with a great blend of humour thrown in there too.
“I want to bare my soul to you and discover your deepest desires. I want to follow you into the darkness and be your light.”
I received an ARC from the author which I thoroughly enjoyed!
I love when books in a series or a duology start off with a recap of what happened before, and thank you so much, this one did!
The Heir & The Promise picks up right where the story left off in The Archer & The Flame, and we get more heist vibes this time around. I loved getting to see more of Silas' world and how different it is to what Willow is used to. Having this book be a dual POV was such a good choice, and I loved seeing Silas' side of things!
If you loved the banter between Silas and Willow in book 01, then that's something that you don't need to worry about missing in book 02. They don't have as much time together in the beginning for various reasons, but once they're in each other's orbit again, bring on the banter and sass! We also get a whole crew of new characters that are full of personality and make you want to learn more about them (I could read a whole book about Klara *hint hint*).
But all in all - I loved this as a book and as an ending to a duology! I can't wait to see what else will come from Marie Violet, because you can definitely count me in!
4.5/5 ✨ Thank you so much Marie Violet for the advance copy, this duology was incredible! I loved Silas! He was so full of himself, but in a funny way, and I really enjoyed his jokes and silly comments. I also loved his POV. He went through so much, but he never lost his bright side; always the optimist! He’s perfect for Willow, the greenest of green flags! And she definitely needed some sunshine in her life to crack her walls and let some love in. She was also a lovable character, fierce and powerful, even without a Blessing. The side characters were really interesting too: the camaraderie, the different kinds of friendships and relationships between them… all of that added a lot of layers to the story. And so much intrigue! The espionage and the secrets were great to read! Inside this Duology you'll find: 🍃 Elemental Magic ❤️🔥 Reluctant Allies to Lovers ☁️ Secret Society & Hidden Identities ❤️🩹 Found Family ✨ Reverse Grumpy x Sunshine ⚔️ Epic Quest & Bargains 💔 Loss & Grief 🌹 Greenest of Green Flags!
4⭐️ 3🌶️ The Heir & The Promise is the final installment of the Whispers of the Night Ravens Duology. It is darker, more cunning, higher stakes, full of magic, and spicier than The Archer & The Flame. This story is action packed with political intrigue, deception, rebellion, love, loss, and finding family outside of blood relatives.
Both Willow and Silas show such growth of character through out the story and they are such a solid partnership. I love the way that they support and lift each other up during their entire adventure. The side characters add further depth to the story and increase the stakes. The found family moments quickly became some of my favorites through out the book.
This book wrapped up the duology perfectly and I look forward to what Marie Violet brings into us next.

Thank you Marie Violet for my early copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I was so beyond thrilled to be get this as an ARC because I adored book 1 and instantly fell in love with Silas and Willow, and I couldn’t wait to read more of them.
The Heir and The Promise was a fantastic little fantasy read that kept me on the edge of my seat with all of the twists and turns. The character development from book one to book two was perfect, it was such a natural growth between them and I loved how Silas was slowly starting to change the way Willow perceived the world around her and how its okay to have the help of others around you.
Celeste and Devon quickly became a favourite of mine, I wish we could know more about them but the glimpses we got of them were very sweet.
The plot and twists were fast paced and made me laugh, shout and cry!
Another amazing piece from a lovely author, congratulations 🥰
Also… the spice in this book was fire, quite literally.
Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review 3.9 ⭐️
I really enjoyed the first book, but The Heir & The Promise surprised me. The worldbuilding is so detailed and immersive, and the story is super emotionally driven and character-focused. The world felt alive, exciting, and full of high stakes — there was always something happening that kept me hooked.
Silas and Willow are just the sweetest. Seeing how dedicated they are to each other made the whole book really satisfying to read.
My favorite scene has to be when Silas busted down a door:
Silas fell into the room, grinning sheepishly. “I heard there was a damsel in distress.” That made me laugh.
The ending wrapped everything up so well and honestly hit me right in the feels. I’m really going to miss Willow and Silas :’) If you love high-stakes, emotionally-driven fantasy with an immersive world and a sweet, dedicated couple, this duology is definitely worth picking up.

"Fire rose at my fingertips unbidden. I would burn the entirety of Eirel down if anyone dared to hurt her."
Absolutely brilliant. This book is everything I love about fantasy romance: High stakes adventures, rife with plot twists. Feet-kicking, grin-inducing banter that had me laughing out loud. Sizzling chemistry that blazes more brilliantly than Silas' Blessing. Found family that slither their way into your heart like a sea serpent. An MMC that's both the warmth of a cosy fire for her and the inferno that would burn the world down to save her. An FMC that's intelligent, strong, and capable on her own, but even more so when she’s loved correctly.
I loved the ties with A Rose Forged Of Steel! They added a wonderful depth to the world of Idrix that I'm so sad to now leave with the conclusion of this duology! I can't wait to return with whatever Marie has in store for us next!
I really enjoyed following Willow's and Sila's journey further! Their growing relationship, the hardship and obstacles they face and the development of each of them individually and together. The world building expands and the new territory of Eirel and it's brutal hierarchy and problems of the citizens. The stories are incredible with regards to developments and plot twists and I love how everything turns out with the different storylines. The side characters and beasts are a cherry on the top and make the book more captivating and real.
I really loved this duology and the epilogues where balm for the soul and heart.
Book two picks up right where the first left off, and I appreciated the quick recap from the author that made it easy to slip back into the story. This installment dives deeper into Silas’s world—one filled with darker undertones—yet he still manages to be the brighter presence in this reverse grumpy/sunshine dynamic. Willow is a formidable heroine, driven by fierce determination and resilience. With magic, secrets, dangerous missions, and rising emotions, the story follows the two as they fight to protect what they can while slowly and undeniably falling for each other.
4.5 - love love love the ending! Loved Silas’ character development during this book and him discovering who he wanted to be! Valeria is a little prickly around the edges but she definitely grows on you. Going to miss reading about their adventures but all good things have to come to an end I suppose. Thank you so much Marie Violet for letting me read this early! I was in a reading slump after the archer and the flame and this has cured it for me.
What a duology! I actually think I enjoyed this book even more than the first because we’ve gotten all of the world building and set up out of the way. I love how the author spends a lot of time character building so you get super invested in their lives and the outcomes. Twists and turns are along the way before an epic finish to this story. I’m sad to say goodbye buttttt the ending was done so well and I don’t have any of those lingering questions. Definitely recommend!
First of all, I missed Willow and Silas after book 1 concluded a couple of years ago and I was yearning to know what happened next. So having book 2 in my hands and continuing the story was perfect to me.
There was the right amount of plot and spice. And the spice was hot enough to leave me speechless and breathless.
And where it's been a while since book 1, The Archer & The Flame, I completely forgot how 🐓-y Silas is 🤣🤣 So that had me laughing until I ached.
This book made me go through the motions but it all ended happily.
**Read the TW's before reading this book /and duet.
Thank you so much to Marie Violet for the g!fted arc. It was so lovely to arc read for you again 💗💗
A golden retriever MMC just makes my heart happy. And of course, a strong and independent FMC is my favorite. I loved Silas and Willow’s dynamic throughout the book. Both had plenty of suffering throughout their life to make them cold and vengeful, and yet they never changed their kind nature. While I’m sad the book is over, I know their adventures are just beginning to protect their world.
We meet Willow and Silas just were we left off and it’s straight into the action! This time with new friends as we set out on our adventure. Once again, Violet’s writing does not disappoint. There’s flirting, banter, found family and this time, the smut gates have opened!
A thoroughly enjoyable read and a fantastic conclusion to the duology!
Book 2 picks up the story straight away and it delivers. Silas and Willow continue their Golden retriever and black cat energy, but the characters are developing along with each other and the growth is great. I may be slightly in love with Valeria, I loved how strong and no nonsense she is and she really added to the story.
First, I want to absolutely express my gratefulness for the quick summary of book 1 at the beginning of the book!
The banter continues in this fantasy sequel which helps contribute to the plot progression. I enjoyed the elemental magic of the world. I also love the quest aspect of this read.
