Strange things are happening in the shadows of an isolated town on the coast of Norway. Ominous sacrifices, suspicious deaths, and poisonous flowers placed as offerings. Haunted by the unsettling occurrences surrounding the town, Katla worries that a sinister presence is growing within her. A force of terrifying mystery fusing itself with her very soul.

When she meets the tall, warm stranger who has been stalking her house from the woods, all of the terrible secrets begin unraveling. Haakon has his own web of dark history, and the strange occurrences may have a much more ancient and elaborate origin than expected. Katla also finds herself suspecting Haakon may not be exactly who—or what he seems.

As Katla and Haakon navigate the depths of her town's secrets and the horror lurking within its heart, a bond forms between them. But can their connection withstand a twisted plot for revenge and the malevolent forces threatening to consume them?

This book was so different from anything I’ve ever read and I loved every second of it. Dark, strange, atmospheric and somehow still incredibly tender. It pulls you in immediately and I loved every second of it.

It unfolds slowly and I kept trying to piece it together and just when I thought I figured it out, the truth still blindsided me.

Lola’s writing is so immersive it feels like you’re living inside the story. Every scene is layered with mood and intention and the vibes are just immaculate. 11/10

Katla made me feel everything!!! She’s strong in a raw, deeply human way and I couldn’t help but ache for her while also being in awe of her. She is so incredibly strong I loved her. Truly.

Where do I get myself a Haakon??? Protective, patient, caring but dark and ughhh. He just feels… safe. And there’s soo much beneath the surface. He has my heart.

Forever thinking about the two of them.
