Killswitch Chronicles: The Complete Anthology

Rate this book
"A thinking person's disaster novel. No cheap thrills, the action compliments the deeper themes." One morning, you wake up to find that the electrical grid has gone dark. And it's not just your home, not just your community, not just your county... No light, no heat, no computers... What happens next? "A hidden gem..." Consider this... If the world became devoid of central governments tomorrow, and just a few pockets of intrepid survivors spread across the vast span of the North American continent remained, what new nations might exist a hundred years from now? "Great multi-part survival story. If this is your "cup of tea" then drink up. You'll enjoy the ride." Killswitch Chronicles is more than just a disaster series, deeper than a simple anthology of survival tales. Through the power of story, ideas for creating a more sustainable life - even before a global catastrophe - come to life. Those who heed the warnings, who prepare for a Great Reset, will be the ultimate survivors of history. Just as those who endured the fall of Rome became the founders of nations still in existence today. "Strong story. Strong characters. Strong writing..." Follow the Hamilton family in the tiny farming community of Shelbyville, Illinois as it faces nearly insurmountable odds of survival against a world gone cold and dark. Instead of falling apart, small-town farmers and townspeople create an oasis in the dark age, becoming a beacon of hope in an otherwise desolate world. Imagine the horror awaiting Red Morton and his small band of prison guards while trapped in a darkened maximum security prison with thousands of vicious killers. Meanwhile, at a small hunting lodge just a few miles away, a brother and sister team scramble to care for stranded guests from all over the world. Before the first week is over, both worlds will collide. College students are trapped away from home with no way to contact or connect with family. Former senator Julia Ruff must use all of her leadership skills to lead the survivors through not only hunger but also terror as bandits try to prey on the innocent. Witness the struggles of the Jenkins family and their congregants as they attempt to rebuild a neighborhood in the ruins of Washington DC. With some unexpected help, they are able to turn an old school into a happy home. But what happens when those who used to be in charge of the city now decide they need what the Jenkins family has worked so hard to save? For those who make it through the dying time, new information will emerge that the Great Reset wasn't just an accident. Choices of life and death, once completely out of their control, now rest in the palm of their hand. How they choose to use that power will determine the course of future history. Follow the plots and subplots of Killswitch Chronicles as days turn into months and years turn into decades. Cheer as heroes and villains clash. Cry as real-life proves the good guys don't always win. Through it all, maintain hope that as new nations rise, there might yet be a chance to create that shining city on a hill. Killswitch Chronicles combines the bestselling Fortress Farm series with the Haunt of Jackals storyline. Re-imagined and completely reworked, the world of the Great Reset comes to life as never before, with hundreds of pages of never before released material. Join the Hamilton family's quest to build a lasting civilization out of the ashes of the greatest empire the world has ever known. Learn more and read about the science behind the fiction at the Fortress Farm website. "Different perspective from the regular doom and gloom..." Riveting. Thought provoking. Believable. Worth reading.

Fabulous read. I found the first volume for free. I had to buy the whole anthology before I finished the first book! Considering the length of the anthology Killswitch is modestly priced.

Carter keeps on adding characters as the volumes progress, so there's a lot to keep track of. Yet, the characters are well developed, and fit into the premise of the original group gradually coming into contact with pockets of population that have faced the same disaster.

Written several years ago, it was eerie reading for me as our government raised our national debt to unheard amounts.

I've often wondered what would happen to our society if all of our computers quit working simultaneously. Banking, travel, entertainment, OK that's obvious, but it would also also stop the supply of electricity, natural gas, and water to consumers and render many on our home appliances useless. Ever tried to buy fast food during a power outage? We are so dependent on computers, most places are forced to shut down.

Carter has put a tremendous amount of thought into what would happen if we suddenly lost all the technology of the last 100 years.

Riveting. Thought provoking. Believable. Worth reading!
