The Chemistry Coach: A steamy, slow-burn, found-family hockey romance

Rate this book
A star NHL player needs career help, and he gets it from his biggest fan. A woman who has shaped his past and holds his future in her hands, and he doesn’t even know she exists.

Professional hockey player Connor Greene wants nothing more than to stay near the nephew he helped raise. Unfortunately, his poor performance in a contract year doesn’t bode well for his chances of remaining in Seattle. When his career-long linemates were traded the previous year, Connor fell into a cold streak. With the trade deadline looming, Connor needs to build chemistry with two rookies if he wants any chance at getting his game back.

Daisy Mayes dreams of working for the Seattle Freeze, but after years of rejection, she resolves to make her own way. Burned-out and fed-up with her career as a corporate team-building consultant, she starts a hockey podcast with her best friend. Just days after launching it, her longtime NHL crush wanders into her day job with his teammates. It’s the opportunity of a life time and Daisy intends to seize it. But as she tricks them into bonding, she also has to fight her attraction to Connor, all while keeping their shared past, her relationship with Connor’s rival, and her overly enthusiastic fangirl tendencies under wraps.

The Chemistry Coach is an open door, slow burn, found family, hockey romance featuring insta-lust, steamy tension, goofy rookies, and a guaranteed HEA. It’s book one of the Coaching the Connors series, but can be enjoyed as a stand-alone.

I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC copy of this book to review!

Let me preface by saying that I LOVE hockey romances....and this one is a must-read!!! I am excited that this is a "Book 1", because now I am anxiously awaiting a "Book 2"!

We are introduced to Daisy, who is Seattle Freeze's biggest fan. She has been trying to land a job with the team for as long as she can remember, but has never been able to make that dream happen. So, she decides to start a hockey podcast with her best friend, Roxie. Daisy has also been obsessed with Connor Greene for as long as she has loved hockey, and her podcast is a perfect excuse to pay more attention to him while reporting on the Freeze and Connor's playing.

With her current job, she ends up being the team building coach for Connor and the other two Connor's that are part of their line (the 3 forwards that form that unit). We are taken on the journey of Daisy getting to know all of the Connor's, and realizing that Connor "Beanie" Greene is every bit of the man she has been obsessed with for so many years.

Riss Connor does an excellent job at character development. I felt a connection to literally EVERY character in this book, and can't wait for more of their stories.

Overall, this is a down-to-earth story about love, friendship, and family. It will give you all the feels and even make you laugh a little!

This is a new author for me, and I am already looking forward to ther rest of the series and more of her work. She knocked this out of the park.

As many of you, I love sports romances (hockey is a favorite kind) so I went into this with expectations, and was greatly satisfied. This is a story that actually revolves around the sport, the camaraderie, the team mates, the line ups, the action, and how it is all interconnected and can affect the game and the performance.

Now, the base of this book is fresh and new, she is a fan who turns into a podcaster, who turns into a version of her dream (she dreams of working for the organization, but ends up working with hockey players privately). So, trust me, I can relate to that girl. But to have your dream player, and his friends look at you for help and advice is would be intimidating, so she has to be business controlled while freaking out in the inside, and come up with new strategies to really connect with them. And here is where the heart of the story is at. Connections!!

Daisy is a team building coach (aka relationship builder), so when Connor arrives with teammates to help them gel together in hopes of a better game outcome, she sees her dreams come true. And she will come with creative ideas for the team building, you will laugh, you will enjoy it all!! But she never expected for the connections to reach her so deeply. Once again, the author does a great job in writing their conversations, their moments, their thoughts, You will feel the slow burn, the restrain, and you will love every moment, even the secrets and drama.

And wait til you read the epilogue!!.

My first 5 star read in 2026!!

This book was everything, and more! It's a small town hockey romance, where the FMC has been crushing on the MMC forever. Both characters are absolutely lovable and I was literally rooting for them both from the beginning.

Not only did this book have a FMC & MMC, it also has 2 other pretty main male characters that are such a big part in the story too, which I loved!

The story is amazing. Light, romantic and a tiny bit of spice around 74% in. Honestly, I caught myself chuckling whilst reading this a fair few times.

All in all, if you're into a sweet romance or a hockey romance type of book then I would 100000% add this to your TBR. You will not be disappointed!

* I was sent this ARC by booksprout in exchange for an honest review. All of the above is my own opinions and feelings on this book *

I loved the chemistry between the two characters it was a great slow-burn build and their relationship kept me reading to the end of the book! Plus, it takes place in the hockey world, if you like those romances what's not to love! There are great characters in this book that I really felt like I could relate to and this is a realistic story. I recommend this book for romance readers!.

The Chemistry Coach is a fun, fast-paced sports romance with great banter and irresistible chemistry. The academic-meets-athlete dynamic feels fresh, and the emotional buildup keeps you hooked. A charming, feel-good read that’s easy to binge.

I love Connor and Daisy and want to see more of them! Sometimes a slow burn can feel, well, slow, but the tension between these two kept me turning pages late into the night. This author will be a new auto-buy for me.
