Anne Frank(10 Days That Shook Your World) by David Colbert Nonfiction 144 pages
This book is about the important days that Anne Frank lived. She lived during the World War II Holocaust. Her family was trapped in the Netherlands by Nazi Germany, and Margot recieved a letter to report to the SS office, where she will be sent to the concentration camps. The SS are a police force that also acts as Hitler's personal army. The Frank goes to hiding in an office building, where nobody working there knows. Margot leaves early one morning with Miep Gies, Mr. Frank's sevretary. Then the rest of the family leaves to the secret hiding place, where Anne called 'The Secret Annex'. The van Pelses, called the van Daans in Anne's diary, including Mr. and Mrs. van Pels and Peter van Pels, hide with them. Later, Dr. Pfiffer, a middle-aged dentist, described as Albert Dussel in Anne's diary, arrives with the help of Miep. However, after more than two years of hiding, they are discovered by the betrayal of Mr. Kugler, the commpany manager of the building the residents of the secret annex were hiding in. All of them were immediately sent to Camp Westerbork, in the north-eastern region of the Netherlands. The prople are all in lines with one lines all female and the other with all males. The unhealthy, too old or too young people are sent to gas chambers where they will die in a matter of minutes. The others are sent to labor. Not long after they arrive, the Franks left Camp Westerbork to Auschwitz-Birkenau, further away from being liberated. Disease and sickness spreads in the sleeping areas, and everyone is hungry. Anne and her sister, Margot, leaves that camp to Bergen-Belsen Camp, Germany, even further away from liberation. The whole Frank family, van Pelses, and Dr. Pfiffer passes away except Mr. Frank. They and the other prisoners who died passed away so innocently, not causing any crime.
I rated this book a four out of five because sometimes the book made me confused. I really liked how the author describes clearly about what happened to Anne and the rest of the Jew prisoners, sometimes he mixed some orders up and made me confused. I also liked the pictures with clear captions to explain things. Overall, I liked a lot of things, but the fact that the author mixed up some events.
This was such a great book to read.I would recommend this book for people who like biographies and books of the holocaust. I liked this book because it described the holocaust in two different perspectives. One perspective is Anne Frank's perspective and the other is the author's perspective. One weakness of this story was when Anne Frank died near the release of the Jews.Another weakness is that Anne Frank's mom died just to get her daughter the right nutrition. I mainly recommend this book to Mrs.Dayhoff because she loves sad books.

How she got found and had to live in Concentration Camps. Also how she died right before the Military;Everybody died but Otto Frank. I predict that Otto Frank will move on and find a new wife.
David Colbert takes us through 10 key days in Anne's life that were turning points in her and her family's existence. His words are straight to the point to give us an accurate description of feelings and experiences of those involved. He uses specific examples from Anne Frank's diary that allow us insight into her thoughts. Obviously this insight is limited as Anne is not alive to tell us her story but David Colbert does a great job of using multiple sources in order to give the most accurate information possible. I would argue that one of the best written parts of this book is when Anne's family and the Van Pels’ are discovered hiding in the secret Annex. This chapter made me, as a reader, fear for her safety and that of her family as well. The events of this time are horrific and are often hard to even fathom. I liked that this book did a great job of telling time and place as well. It really helped me to put real events with real people and gave them more meaning and emotion. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading real history but in less of a textbook format.
Genre: Biography Pages: 160 Author: David Colbert with her and her sister only being left to another camp in Eastern Europe to escape liberation by the Allies in their original location of the Netherlands. Weeks after the invasion has reached Paris, her sister dies of an epidemic and it soon takes Frank. The mother was later discovered to be dead with the only survivor being the father who printed the book to give a piece of Anne's life to others.
My Thought(s) I enjoyed this book. I heard about the notorious Anne Frank, but I never really knew who she was or what she did that had such an impact on things and made her relevant today. The diary itself was obviously long so having this book to sum it up within ten chapters and some aftermath chapters was great. I think although the story itself is sad and doesn't exactly have a happy ending it needed to be shared with others to make sure things like that don't happen in the future. Coming into the book, I knew Anne Frank would be subject to death at the end but the lead up to it and the clever ways they hid interested me and made me continue reading. I would recommend this book to a friend that wants a not-the-longest-read type of book but still somewhat challenging with the words.
Anne Frank By David Colbert Biography 160 Pages Date Finished: 5/28/13
This book is about a young girl named Anne Frank, it explains important events in Anne's life during the Holocaust in 10 chapters. Each chapter explains what Anne's life was like and the harsh rules and ways Jews were treated. In these harsh events Anne doesn't lose hope and she writes all her thoughts into her diary, "Kitty". An example that she did not lose hope was that she believed everyone carried kindness in their heart. This biography explains life in the secret annex and the times the Franks were scared they were caught be German officers. Even though Anne does not survive until the end of the Nazi's and Hitler's cruelty, as she dies of typhus, she leaves behind her diary. This holds all her thoughts.
I thought this was a great book. It held a great theme, to never give up and I liked learning about Anne Frank. I usually don't really enjoy nonfiction because sometimes its too detailed but the topic of the Holocaust does interest me. This book was also really good because the author really showed how scary it was to live in that time period. Overall I would give this book four out of five stars.
Anne Frank was a Jewish girl who only lived to be 15. She went to hiding with her family, another family and a friend in a secret annex above where Mr. Frank worked. They started making arrangements after Hitler was having the Germans over power the Jews and anybody else that he thought was differnt. They stayed there for about a year and during these days Anne kept a diary. After staying in the Annex, cops found them and took them away to a concentration camp where they were separated and only got to talk to each other for short periods every day. After staying there for about a year, Anne and Margot, Anne's sister, were taken to a different concentration camp. There they got a disease called typhus. Typhus is spread through lice which was rapid there. Margot and Anne both died at that concentration camp just a few weeks before the Jewish army was able to let them out. To me this was a touching story in which I learned a lot and really realized how harsh of conditions the Jews had to live in. I would recommend this for people ages 10 and up because it's a quick read but has so much meaning.

Anne Frank is a young girl who is a victim of the Holocaust. She lives in the Netherlands with her mom, dad, and her older sister Margot. Anne’s story affected everyone an she is a role model to grown-ups and kids around the world. Anne was around ten when she went into hiding with her family another family and a man. They were in there for over two years. That means they never went outside for over two either. Sometimes there were robbers in the building and even German soldiers too. But one day the soldiers found the secret annex and ordered everyone out. All of them went to concentration camps. But the men and the women got separated and that was the last time Anne ever saw her dad. Anne had to do useless jobs like marching up a hill and moving a pile of stones over then the next day putting it back. She also had to shave her head and have a number printed on her which they called them by.Find out what happened to Anne and her family. Someone who is brave and is interested in the Holocaust should read this. I recommend this book for kids 10 and up.
Anne Frank heard a great deal about the Nazis and what they were doing in Germany and in other countries, but it all seemed so far away. Until May 15, 1940, Germans invaded the Netherlands, but Anne and her family lived, and her life began to change. At first, the changes were small ones, but then the Germans began to impose more and more rules and restrictions on the Jews. She had to wear a yellow star on her clothes, and she was not allowed to ride a bicycle, to ride in a car, to go into a theater, or to stay outside after dark. All this was hard to handle, but then the Germans sent the Franks a letter saying that Anne’s sister Margot was going to be sent to a concentration camp. Anne’s father had been making preparations to hide his family, and this letter forced the Franks to leave earlier than planned. For twenty-five months, the Franks and the van Daan(?) lived in their hidden home, and Anne helped to pass the time by writing in a diary. This powerful and sometimes painful book not only tells the story of Anne Frank, but it also puts her story into its historical time.
I read this book because I like to learn about history, especially World War II. I thought that this book however was confusing, because it is supposed to be the ten most important days of Anne's life, and those days weren't in a row, so it skipped around and it was a bit hard to follow. I would recommend this book to anyone else who likes World War II, but not as much of the gruesome stuff, because this book didn't describe in detail what everything looked like. I thought this book was just like a lot of the other Anne Frank books, because it tries to give the story to you in as much detail as possible, but then it skips like a month of time. Then you're left wondering what happened in that month of time so you read more Anne Frank books but none of them give you the answers. The book ends with the death of Anne Frank and the finding of her diary. After seeing some of the pictures of the people who were liberated after the war, I'm wondering how they survived being that skinny.
I just recently finished 10 days Anne frank by: David Colbert. He was also the author of eyewitness to America. The main characters are Anne frank, Margot, mr. Frank, and mrs. Frank. Amsterdam, Germany was took over hitler a.k.a the nazi ruler and the s.s Germany army. So It was July 6th, 1942 6:00 a.m. all of the frank were going into hiding they were hiding for 2 year and 10 days. Then they were caught and took to 2 different camps. Anne and Margot were slowly dying. Then on March 1945 Anne and Margot took there last breath. Anne's last words were we are together and we have our peace. I love this book so much I could read it a million time and that is why I gave it 5 stars. That was my book review ;)
Anne Frank lived for 5,748 days before she died in a Nazi concentration camp. Due to a diary she left behind, her story is known widely and has been immortalized. David Colbert looked over Anne's brief life and picked out 10 dates that were turning points in her life. It is well written for older elementary students with a lot of primary photograph reproductions. An excellent addition to a primary/middle school library.
This was a really good book but i really didn't like how it says "she will later remember....". The book was about Anne and her sister Margot, her dad and her mom, all being in the concentration camps. Even though their lives were really difficult, this was a very interesting biography.I recommend this book to my friend Brianna because I think she would like to read about Anne Frank and it is a fast read.
Writing: If all students in your classroom read the same biography or autobiography, they could focus on the ten most pivotal days of that person's life, with students possibly pairing up and writing a first-person account of one of these days.
Students generate eight to ten tips that their hero might pass on to future generations. The advice can be published as beautiful quotes, using a quote making site.
Incredible book. Gives you a really real, not sugarcoated depiction of what the Holocaust was and how horrible it was. The book was so emotional, and I really learned a lot from reading it. Anne Frank's family is just one of many that went through the exact same, and this book is one of the reasons the Holocaust is so important to me today. ( I read it in 4th grade and then again about a month ago)
In the book Anne Frank (10 Days) is very harsh and disturbing, but I have learned a lot so far, i would say so far so good. I am now on chapter 10,and now I am feeling so gross in side of me. I have looked at all of the photos and now I think that she was very brave as a 12 year old to be dealing with that.
An easy read and easy to understand. I had no idea what kind of issue Hitler made in the past because I only learned a basic history of the second world war in school. Reading Wikipedia didn't help either. This helped me learn what it was all about from a young girl's(and also a victim's) perspective which helped me understand what all those people had been through.
I think the book was sad, happy, and pure exciting not knowing what is going to happen next to Anne Frank. It was really sad because it shows you the secret Annex and they lived and died in the Auschwitz-Birkenau concetration camp.At least Anne got her dream of getting famous for her diary, even though she died of tyhus at age 15 with margrot.
Very interesting book that goes into more details where the previous two I've listened to didn't touch on. It goes into extremely extensive details on what went on in the concentration camps. It's just so sad but glad that I read it as it's very educational and historical. I feel stories like these are hard to read but important to remember those who where lost.
I love this book! It is sad when Anne's family gets sent to a work camp by the Nazis and when her sister Margot dies at the camp, but overall it is a good book. I recommend it to anyone who likes memoirs that are sad
It was a sad biography about Anne Frank and the hardships that Jewish people went trough in world war 2. The Nazis captured the Jews and put them in concentration camps. It was a great story, but it w as really sad too.
This is okay it's pretty good for a non-fiction book. What I would like if Anne Frank wrote it in her diary. So then I know it's real info. But I still believe it because it has dates and such. Over all it's okay. I suggest it if you like non-fiction books!!!
This book was very informational. It told a lot about WW2. She lived a very sad life! I liked how they included pictures of WW2. I read the book very fast. I think this is an interesting topic. I don't like non fiction so this book was not my favorite.
It was amazing. Made me feel like I was inside the book in Anne Frank's shoes. I learned a lot about the Holocaust and what regular Jews had to go through. The end was sad but inspiring. Never read anything like this!
This was an very informational look at Anne Frank's life. The play doesn't hold a light to this book. The author introduces you to the actual names of the characters, the camps the Frank's and van Pels went to, & what killed Margot & Anne.
It was a pretty cool book, considering it only shown 10 small parts of Anne Franks life, but it shown all the important part. If you want to find out more about Anne Frank and the Holocaust, I'd suggest you read this book.
