War for You

Rate this book
Edmund was content to watch greed consume his father’s kingdom, where magic once thrived and peace was taken for granted. But on the eve of the empire’s invasion, a chance encounter with an enemy princess motivates him to put his skills to use—one last effort to restore an ancient alliance, or at least protect the enemy he loves.

As two young monarchs born on opposite sides of an ancient and stubborn war, they must work together to alter the course of history. They must sacrifice everything to create a world in which they can love freely. But they don’t know if their peoples are prepared to set aside centuries of conflict to save their kingdoms from invasion. Will moonlit diplomacy, treason, and spycraft bring on a new era of peace?

This book was such a fun and good read. In this slow burn romantasy there is so much mischievous things happening, and all by the hand of Prince Edmund.
This lazy third prince don't really care for anything other than his magic studies. But when fate one day happens and he is ordered by the king to attend a meeting with the enemy and sign some boring documents. He meets her, princess Amelia!
And from that day on, everything changes for the prince. He dose everything in his power to see her again, he is even willing to start a for for her. Even though she doesn't have the faintest sliver of care for him, only her people.

This tale is filled with magic, mischievous behavior, banter, plots and plans, secret meetings and so much sweets!

The amount I cackled at Edmund is unholy. If I ever become a prince, I want to be him. An amazingly well written book with tension, heartbreak, family disappointment, and some of the most hilarious get-out-of-jail ideas I've ever seen. An absolute triumph!

Arc reader review

It's a funny, light and romantic read. (by light, I mean that conflicts/dramas were solved quite easily, while it still held your attention.)

Edmund went from an ignorant, useless prince to a true loverboy who would sacrifice his kingdom for her. And it's HIS POV, which was very funny (he's so unserious) and also cute when he's obsessed with her. I also enjoyed the magic elements, I wanted to see more of him studying his skills.

"Just don't let anything happent to my face, alright? I need to leave a good third impression!

I must say, majority of his success came from being lucky and bold, i wish we've seen more hard work and hardships, but I appriciated the character development, how he found his place and interests in his life.

"But since I met you...Eveything matters now. Now it bothers me that the world is about to end."

Amelia, I really liked. The troubled princess under the burden of her kingdoms/peoples problems, who has to look strong and serious at all times, who then meets AND FALLS in love with the guy who literally went on a sidemission to get a few days worth of pastries for the meeting. They make such a good pair.
There was insta attraction (on his part), but the romance was built up nicely, and it was not overly spicy, just the right amount.

I'm thankful that it wasn't dragged out to be a series, perfect length for one book, and the ending was satisfying.

Review ☆☆☆☆☆☆

Okay - I think the name Seren Solus on a book for me is the sign that I will 100% love this book! You have a huge fan and I will read everything from you!
This book was perfect as always and I had to force myself to go to bed after 'one more chapter' too often!
The MMC xxx is just - how could you describe him - brilliant crazy? He is an intelligent man but he is crazy especially for her. He was bored his entire life and stopped caring for the slowly crumbling kingdom and world but then SHE appeared in his life. And to be near her he moves mountains. He has an absolutely crazy cookie obsession and is a big sweet tooth and always has something sweet with him. He is a cool mage who is so nonchalant and mostly cares about her and very few other people who are really important to him. He does literally everything for her!
Though they are from opposite kingdoms who hate each other he doesn't stop to try and be near her.
Because of his strange character the FMC, xx is often confused by him and his actions but soon she grows quite fond of him - maybe that has something to do with cookies and pie but no spoilers...
I laughed so often and all my emotions were involved and I felt at home. The whole time.
The world and found family were perfection for me as always in a Seren Solus world.

War for You by Seren Solus

I received an advanced reader’s copy of this book and was not paid for my review.

***
He was bored and frustrated watching his kingdom fall, until he met the enemy.

Prince Edmund was simply letting greed consume his land, where magic had all but died. But with enemies surrounding them, a wholly unexpected encounter with an enemy princess sparks a desperate plan. Born on opposite sides of an ancient war, they must risk treason to restore an alliance, or lose their kingdoms and any chance at love.

Ooh this book has been so hard for me rate! So sorry GoodReads, but I’ve finally given my first half a star!

The book started off so well, with fantastic comradery and sarcasm between MMC Edmund and his guard Peter. I can absolutely picture this duo as Timothy Chalamet and Sean Bean driving each other potty, whilst being loyal to a fault.

Edmund is our feckless prince, the third and least wanted son who has seemingly spent his life indulging himself in his whims and whinging nonstop. But now he has become governor of a province in his father’s kingdom, forced to do the worst thing imaginable – paperwork. The horror.

At first, I was utterly frustrated with Edmund – as you should be – because come on, man, have some care for anything! Thankfully, the armoured, dedicated, and aloof enemy princess Amelia kicks some sense into him. Sort of.

Amelia is such an interesting FMC. Reading this story entirely from Edmund’s point of view isn’t common in most books I read, so it was a cool way to get to know her. At times it felt a bit Romeo & Juliet, with Edmund being a dolt in love with a woman but knowing basically nothing about her. Amelia is the foil to Edmund, literally working herself to exhaustion to save her people, doing everything she can to feed them and keep them free of the evil, encroaching empire.

So why did I struggle so much with this book? The main characters are such fun, at times a bit vaudeville-esque, and it was brilliant watching their lovey story evolve. The political machinations, plots, twists and genuine chess like moves of our royal heroes is seriously impressive. The way that the story unfolds keeps you hooked.

However, I would have loved some more world building!

In a very direct and fast paced way, this story marches you through the dramas of the creation of Lavender. I just wanted a bit more description of where I am, the sights, sounds and smells. That being said, I’m still very eager to read more from this author!

⭐⭐⭐.5 – Impressive chess like moves, fast paced & funny.

This is romantasy meets Romeo and Juliet in a book.
Edmund is the third son of an empire king and he's the child the king doesn't care for. His kingdom is about to encoded by The Empire and Edmund decides that it's time to stop being passive in this situation when he meets a beautiful girl called Amelia.
Amelia is a warrior princess from an enemy kingdom. Edmund gets obsessed at first sight.
Together, they decided to create an alliance to save Edmund's kingdom and for them to love each other freely.
It was a very nice read, I really liked the characters, Edmund is very funny. The side characters are also very interesting. Amelia is a badass.
On the negative side, I think that the world building could have a little bit more focus just to understand better their world.

Tropes:
Falling in love with the enemy
Romantasy
Magical powers
Political intrigue

I want to thank the author for sending me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
